From Marscury and Utica:

Two large towers are going up in the cities of Marscury and Utica. After letting Mietonka have the Mietonka Tower, the tallest building in the country, the two cities have decided to even the heights. Both buildings are designed to be 1,000 feet high, the same hight as the Mietonka Tower, as a show of equality throughout the country.

From Mietonka and Utica:

Port upgrades begin today. With both international ports only 15% full due to their closures to prevent the entrance of avian flu, heads of both port authorities decided that it would be a perfect time to perform upgrades and crucial maintenance.

At Utica, maintenance is being performed on the seawall, as well as the cranes and other port machinery. The sea wall is also having the coastal artillery replaced, and newer, more powerful radar and radio equipment is being installed to better keep track of ships entering and exiting the port.

At Mietonka, the ugrades are on a much larger scale. The port is nearly doubling in size, adding an oil terminal, harbor patrol HQ, a cruise sip terminal and expanded facilities for Shif Shipping, the national freight company. The seawall is also having its coastal defenses upgraded, along with its radar and radio transmitters.

The "King Cobra" weapons system was installed on the seawalls of both ports. This advanced system features 6 missile tubes, and two 100mm cannons. Anti-air and anti-personel versions have also been installed, with 6 barreled 30mm gattling guns replacing the 100mm cannons. Five of each type were placed on the walls for the port of Utica, while 6 of each type were placed at Mietonka.

From Marscury:

Financial Crisis Over!

The treasury has reported that taxes are once again overtaking spending and debts. The Kaisermelech has not stated if he would lower taxes or not, but it seems unlikely. The extra money will be used to improve infrastructure, as per the East-West integration plan, and to increase knowledge in the empire.

From Marscury:

The Kaisermelech has ordered that all 20,000 active troops and reserves report to their bases immediately. The country is not going to war, but the troops have been called to assist with any ecological disasters that may arise due to the constant barrage of nuclear missiles. However, top Marscurian climatologists say that the empire will be mainly untouched by radioactive debris, due to the Winterly receeding monsoonal winds. The winds blow from the mountains in the Northeast, to the ocean in the West. This will carry nuclear particles away from the Indian subcontinent, and deposit them across the Arabian Sea.

From the City of Wonder:

Today, the final stretch of track was laid, completing Mikhail's multi-billion mark infrastructure plan. The rail network has connected dozens of cities throughout the empire, and will serve to ease the flow of construction materials to the new city.

Also from the CoW:

A tragety was discovered this morning, as the body of Prince Dawud, the younger brother of Kaisermelech Mikhail, was discovered in the rubble of a demolished building. While the exact cause of death has yet to be determined, it is suspected to be suicide. Dawud will be buried in the royal cemetary in Marscury.

From Marscury:

Kaisermelech Mikhail has recently met will nationalist composer William Johns, who wrote the Marscurian War Anthem, and they have chosen the final version of the National Anthem. A large celebration is planned in Marscury tonight, where the anthem will be played first, so that citizens can hear it alone, then it will be timed to a massive fireworks display. Mikhail says that he chose the anthem for its upbeat sounds and joyful tune.

From Marscury:

Today, the KaiserMelech ordered the commissioning of 1,000 more troops. These troops, along with 4,000 already stationed in the empire, will be stationed in the Sindh province. It will be their job to restore order and authority in the province, as well as seek out and destroy terrorists. The troops will be aided by a number of tanks and aircraft to be determined later.

The new recruits, mainly from the Sindh province, were ferried to training camps through out Marscury.

Also from Marscury:

The KaiserMelech today issued a geographical proclaimation that was broadcast throughout the empire and around the world.

To avoid confusion, I have proclaimed the official names of the provinces of the Marscurian Empire. The first is Marscury proper. It has the name "Marscury," and it's provincial capital is the national capital of Marscury. To avoid confusion, the province will be refered to as "Marscury Province," while the city will be refered to as "Marscury." The second is the Marscurian/Terrestrian Joint Island. This will be refered to as "The Island," and its administrative capital is Friendtown. The third province is the Sindh Province, and its capital is the now under construction city of "East Indus." I hope the cartographers around the world take note of this change and record it properly.

From Marscury:

Piracy!

Shif Shipping reports that a convoy of their ships was attacked by pirates as they rounded the Horn of Africa. Out of the six ships in the convoy, 5 were captured, including 3 tankers, 1 container freighter and a bulk cargo freighter. The sixth ship managed to evade the pirates and return to Mietonka. It was determined that the ships were returning from a trade job in South America, and were returning with crude oil, luxury foods and Sugar. Apparently, 7 small boats armed with large caliber machine guns and RPG's encircled the ships and stormed the decks. No official word has come from the captured ships, but a hefty ransom is sure to be demanded. To avoid panic, the names of the ships have not been released, and the crew of the surviving ship has been held in a military base for questioning. The KaiserMelech ensured a swift response, and announced that a ransom would be denied, as the empire does not make deals with pirates. Prayer services are being held for the safety of the over 100 capured sailors.

Our condolances for the losses these pirates have inflicted. Is there anything we can do?

We are asking nations with functioning navies to stop the pirates' escape. A gps tracker in one of the containers gave the ship's last position to be 55'30 E, 9'50 N. We just need the ships to stay put, we will perform rescue operations ourselves.

From Mietonka:

Daring Rescue, 4 ships rescued.

In a nightime raid, 50 members of the Marscurian Special Forces and Secret Operations parachuted onto the captured ships in an attempt to subdue the pirates and rescue the crew. On four of the ships, the pirates were ambushed and killed without any Marscurian casualties, however, one of the parachuters landing on the oil tanker MES Shachor hit a pipe, alerting the pirates. A planted bomb was set off, killing everyone on board, and eventually sinking the ship. The troops and remaining crewmen were transported back to back to Marscury.

From Mietonka and Bin Qasim:

Large Lay-offs at National Defense Contractors!

Today, the nation's three defense contractors announced that they will be issuing large lay-offs due to sinking international sales of Marscurian Pakistani weaponry.

The head of Marscurian Military Works was quoted as saying:

"There just isn't that large a market anymore. Other nations simply make more advanced technology than we can."

The majority of the job losses are in the area of Research and Development. Rather than spending money to develop new materials, the companies are sticking with their already successful products. While domestic contracts are keeping the companies afloat, they have started to turn to other measures to gain some revenue. It is reported that the plans and machinery to the old MAT-80 tanks and MFJ-5 fighter jets have recently gone on sale, and it is expected that similar actions may be taken in the future.

From Marscury:

Suspension Bridge Completed

The highway bridge crossing the Indus River into Marscury was finished today. In a ceremony presided over by the Sultan, a convoy of state cars made the trip between Marscury and the other side of the river. While the bridge is finished, it will recieve very little traffic for a short while, as the northward-heading highway has yet to connect to it.

From Marscury:

Government Offices Move as Capital Totally Connected

Today, the main highway connecting the Tri-Cities to the capital city of Marscury was completed. At the same time, the bridge over the hazardous Chenab River was connected, allowing the highway to travel northward to the mountainous and sparsely populated regional center of North Khyber. The Sultan announced that he will be moving his government from its temporary home in Karachi to the still under construction capital.

From Marscury:

Today, the heads of the military branches met to enact new military codes. The most notable of these is Code No. 278, the Equipment Customization Code, enacted by Generals George Masha'al and Karl Spaatz. This code allows the pilots and crews of military aircraft, tanks and artillery to provide names and nose art for their vehicles. It was determined that this would create a sense of unity among the pilots and crews, and allow for more attachment and better treatment of the equipment. There are a few rules that were enacted to regulate the process. Names and art cannot:

1. Include any nudity or profanity

2. Include any racist terms or pictures

3. Cover important areas of the vehicle, such as access areas or identification numbers

4. Infringe on any copyright or trademark laws

The effects have been seen almost instantly. Inspired by the chance to portray their artistic abilities, crews have gone to work painting. The most common artwork is that of famous models and actresses, the eyes and teeth of predators, and the horns and blaring nostrils of a markhor. Names are also appearing. The first aircraft named was a MGAH-24 Bactrian, named The Sultan's Peacemaker, while the first tank was named Flash Bang. We look forward to seeing what the troops will come up with in the future.
