Diplomatic Note from Sverige

From the Foreign Minister, Julian Olsson

To the Foreign Ministry of the French Empire, and her majesty, Empress Jeanne de LaQueu. It is with great joy that we see the return of your great nation, and our King Karl Gustaf I is very delighted indeed. Both of great nations share a storied history together, with more positive relations than negative, and we would like to resume those relations once again. If it is acceptable, I would like to come visit your great nation so that we may be able to conduct diplomatic talks in person, and hear our great King's proposal. I await your reply, and am ready to leave on a moments notice if you accept.

Signed,

Foreign Minister, Julian Olsson

To Sir Julian Olsson,

I would be delighted to receive you or your King and discuss the expansion of our cooperation to their historical levels. France remembers fondly the friendship fostered in the Colonial period. France is always willing to accept new friends, but the friendship of the Swedish successor state shall be a prize that I, personally, shall treasure closely. The Orleans police shall supply an escort for whomever you should choose to send to the Palais en Orleans.

Regards,

Her Royal Majesty Jeanne de LaQueu I, Lady of the Reunion, Empress of France

After receiving the reply from the Empress of France, Julian Olsson quickly had his aids load his travel belongings on the jet that had been prepped. He went with a small staff, and ordered the jet to take off immediately. He had his staff that was staying behind in Stockholm to forward to France that he would be arriving in a few hours at the Paris Airport. The few hours of the flight he spent pacing back and forth on the plane as he was very anxious to get the diplomatic talks under way, and was nervous that he might fail his King on the task he had given him. As the jet began to close in to the Paris Airport it radioed its Tower to ask for permission to land on its runway.

The tower calls the plane down onto the tarmac, this particular aircraft being given a high priority, and had been escorted by several Rafale from a respectful distance till it reached Orleans, the French military having been worried that it would be targeted, since Sverige itself was at war. Waiting to greet them was a diplomatic liaison, a young lady named Aurelie who'd just ascended to her position a few weeks earlier. She was understandably nervous.

When the plane landed and her charge stepped out, she almost panicked but controlled it, "Hello Monsieur, my name is Aurelie Arsenault and I'll be your guide." She hands him a card, "If you get any questions while you're here, call me up. I'll try to answer them as well as I can."

Julian Olsson, blinked as he departed the plane getting used to the change in the lighting from the plane to the outside sun. He smiled at the young lady in front of him. Before replying to her in rough French, thick with his Swedish accent as he took the card from here. "It is a pleasure to meet a pretty young lady like yourself, it always does my old eyes good to see youthful beauty." He put the card into his shirt pocket. "It is also a pleasure to be in your country, and I hope that the talks between our two nations will be fruitful. I will however be sure to remember your offer to call if I have any questions while I am here." A few of his aides came up behind him with his personal effects. "So young lady, what is our first order of business?"

The young diplomat blushes slightly but maintains her professionalism, "Thank you sir, the first order of business is to drive you to where you'll be staying for the evening so that you can unload any baggage you might have, Sir Ebenfiele is otherwise occupied at the moment, but he'll be free to speak with you as soon as he is able." She goes to the limo she'd driven there in and opens the door, "After you sir."

He smiled as he ducked and slid into the limo, sliding over to the other side allowing room for the young diplomat to get in. He wouldn't normally speak a foreign language, as the Kingdom of Sverige had deemed that if people wanted to communicate with the Kingdom, they could do so in the Sverige tongue. However due to the deep respect and long relations the two nations had shared, it had been permitted to talk in French. Continuing in his thick accent, "Thank you ma'am." His aids would load his baggage before climbing in further up in the limo. "When do you think he will be available to talk, as I hope you understand that some of the subject matter is time sensitive."

"A few hours at most." Aurelie says offhand, "He's meeting with another major head of state at present but insists on seeing you personally regardless. That's most of the reason I'm here, to provide you with something to do for the time he needs. I assure you that he'll be able to speak with you well within the timeframe that you need to speak to him in in order to get what I suspect are your primary requests."

One of the aids reached back and handed Julian a folded piece of paper. He took it from the aid and opened it taking a quick glance at it. He smiled slightly before looking back up to Aurelie. "It seems the war is drawing to an end. Which is wonderful news. However that doesn't change the things that need to be discussed between our two nations, and the thing that was most pressing that needed to be discussed still needs to be discussed."  He adjusted himself in his seat before continuing to talk. "So tell me my young one, how is France faring since it its rebirth from the great war?"

"Excellent, her highness was quite worried that the war would drag on and have unforeseeable consequences for all of Europe." The young lady says, before turning her mind to the question at hand, "We have enjoyed something of a Renaissance, it is safe to produce works of art again and with the turmoil and strife of the last decades, it is quite prolific work. Other than that, our administrations have rebounded rather effectively, the countryside has responded positively to the promise of protection from crime by the central government and from outside force by the military. The approval rate of her Imperial Highness could hardly be higher at the present time." a touch of pride shows through her, "Of course, not everyone can be so pleased with our success. But what of Sverige?"

"Well, we struggled long and hard in the war, but were fortunate enough for the Asian Horde to pull out of our country before the others. Our King started off as a simple rebel, during the war, and slowly built up an army behind him fighting during the long war. After the great powers had left, he worked slowly to reform the country, wiping out religious zealots and roaming warlords. After that he concentrated on rebuilding our nation, while slowly moving into our neighbor countries to protect them from remnant bands of soldiers, and those that would attempt to destabilize the regions around us. Our industry is strong again, and we are well welcomed by our Nordic Brothers as we protect them from outside influences. We have allowed stability to come to our region." He stretched himself a little bit in his seat before resuming. "We have returned ourselves to the old ways, with our old gods, and it is for the best, as it has weeded out the weakness that was within our society, and has allowed us to be a strong nation once again. Though while we have become a military nation, it is good to see your nation has resumed the arts, for without them, the world would slip back into war."

"It's been something of an up and down slope. To speak frankly I think her Royal Highness is overstepping our ability at present." Aurelie says, "We need allies and we're not making them particularly well with our present action. I'm happy to know that the Nordic nations are being reunited, I always thought it would be interesting to see what Europe would be like if the Kalmar Union had retained its power instead of breaking apart."

They reached the place that the Minister would be staying right as Aurelie got a call, "He's finished? Alright, I'll bring the Monsieur Olsson right away then." she puts the phone away and looks at the Minister, "Would you like to finish putting your things away in your Suite or shall we proceed to the Prime Minister's office?"

Hearing the news that he would be able to conduct the negotiations, he would motion for an aid to come forward. "I will have this aide of mine bring my things up and set the place up for my stay here in your beautiful country. However I with my additional aide will continue to meet with, I believe you said his name was Ebenfiele, so that we can finally get some negotiations under way. There is a lot to discuss, and time is something that can pass so very quickly anymore." With that his one aide got out of the vehicle and proceeded to get all the belongings out of the limo, before starting to carry it into the building piece by piece.

Once the Aide was finished offloading the limo and had started being assisted by the hotel staff Aurelie signaled the driver to continue on. "Prime Minister Ebenfiele has been waiting to meet you for a long time, I don't think he would stall any more than is absolutely necessary if he could get away with it. Unfortunately what he's doing is of grave importance, or so I understand it. I'm just a Liaison after all."

They reach the Council building rather quickly, the driver being a professional and the traffic in Orleans being greatly smaller than that of Paris, one of the reasons for moving the capitol in the first place, "This is our stop, I'll escort you as far as the meeting itself."

"Thank you my dear." Getting out of the limo, he stretched his back a little as it was stiff from sitting in limo for so long, he also smoothed out the creases in his suit as he waited for the young lady to get out of the limo to take him to the meeting area. It was clear that he was happy to have arrived and you could see how anxious he was by looking into his eyes. He was excited to get the negotiations moving forward, however a little afraid that he might fail his King. He had fought and clawed his way up to be the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and he didn't want to lose that position now especially with so much riding on the talks.

Aurelie got out of the limo and motioned the Minister to follow her, "This way Sir." she leads him into the building, stopping at a desk along the way and making sure that the Prime Minister knew she was coming with their guest in tow before continuing, passing through several security checkpoints before coming to their destination, Monsieur Ebenfiele awaits you inside sir, I'll be waiting for you to finish to drive you to wherever you wish to go, good luck."

When he opened the door he was greeted by the sight of the Prime Minister sitting at the opposite end of a short table. He stood and walked around it with a smile, "Mister Olsson, it's a pleasure to meet you."

He walked over to the Prime Minister and extended his hand, and speaking in his rough heavy accented French to him, which would be noticeable since this was the first time they had met. "It is a pleasure to meet you Sir Ebenfiele, this has been long anticipated and I look forward to our talks and negotiations going well today." He smiled towards the man as he waited for him to shake his hand and so the two could get past the meeting period and actually move forward to discussing important matters of the state of both nations.

Sits down on the other side of the desk from the man, folding his hands in his lap before speaking. "As you know our two nations share a long history together, dating back to the thirty year war, and we have been long time friends. We have never once solidified our relationship with an actual treaty, but we have supported each other, your nation supporting ours financially at times, to wage wars against our enemies, which were your enemies as well. I believe now after centuries of friendship we should move forward with that relationship, don't you agree?"

Reaching forward he grabbed the cup of wine and took a small sip of it before setting it back down and leaning back into the chair. "Delicious the wine. We were hoping for economic ties between each other, agreed military co-operation." Pausing for a second to take another sip of the wine before bringing forward the elephant of a topic that his King had wanted. "And King Karl Gustaf is interested in our leaders two families coming together, he is wifeless and is interested in marrying one of the Empress's younger sisters. Now before you say no, please consider this as a singular tie that would bind us together so that neither of us could find a way out of this treaty, and our two families would be tied together for the future."

The Prime Minister valiantly avoids doing a spit-take, holding his nose and putting his glass down for a moment before swallowing and gasping for breath, "I'm sorry," he says, "Terribly sorry, just a moment..." he gets his breath, "Ahem, ah, I'm going to have to call her Royal Highness and bring her down here before I begin to negotiate for the hand of her sister if you don't mind." he says, coughing gently, "Even should she not accept such an agreement I'm sure that I can arrange for the ties you've asked."

He gets out his phone and hits a speed-dial, "Yes your highness, I'm speaking with the ambassador from Sverige. Yes, things are going mostly as expected, but they've come forward with a bit of a sensitive question." he pauses as the Empress asks what it is, "They wish to have one of your sister's hands in marriage with the king."

There's a pause, Ebenfiele puts the phone down, "She's on her way."

He nodded in agreement with being told that the Empress would have to be involved with the negotiations for the hand in marriage, and probably the treaty as well. He knew it would more than likely come to this, as she was an absolute ruler and had to make the final ruling on these things. While his King was an absolute ruler, Julian had been given permission to do what was necessary to make this happen, as long as it didn't leave Sverige in a weakened state. "I understand that she needs to come, and I look forward to meeting her. This is a sensitive matter, and I had assumed that she would be the only one who could make it."

Empress Jeanne De LaQueu arrived with an entourage, as was her custom. She had to be flown out from her palace by helicopter to make sure the transfer was as expedient as possible. She didn't enter the room immediately, her guards instead entering and making sure that there wasn't anything wrong. Once they'd gone through all the motions the Empress herself entered.

The Empress of France was a smaller woman than would generally be surmised by her large persona, but she certainly wasn't a bad looking woman. She looked piercingly at Julian, her eyes green despite her dark hair and Mediterranean complexion. She clears her throat, "I hear that your king wants one of my sisters. I must say that I'm rather reluctant to set any of them up with a man neither they nor I know, but if I wasn't going to hear you out, I wouldn't be here. Now, first tell me why?"

As she entered the room he stood up, smiled at her and bowed with respect. After she spoke he lifted his head and continued to smile at her. He extended his hands in friendship towards her and spoke in his heavily accented French to her. "My Lady, first I must apologize to you for my poor French, as it isn't in my first language, and I only speak it to you as a sign of great respect towards you and your people, were it anyone else, we would conduct negotiations in our native language. Secondly, as I told your Prime Minister, we share a long and storied history of good relations between our two nations. My King things it would be a wonderful thing to have our two nations engage in this arrangement. If you worry about his credentials as a potential husband, I can vouch for him personally, as I am alive today because of him. Back when we were still fighting to free ourselves from the great war, where the major nations moved massive amounts of troops through all countries, he took a bullet so that I wouldn't get shot. He is a man bound by honor and reason and would gladly give his life to defend his people, as well as our Nordic brothers. He can be brash at times, but when is an idealist not? He inspires us to better ourselves, and we are stronger than ever because of him."
