Official Statement from the Union of the Southern Cross

Prime Minister Elisabeth Whittaker stepped into bright lights curtly, and stepped up to the oak podium, curtly clearing her throat. On the front of the podium, the emblazoned symbol of the Southern Cross Constellation, with the words "Office of the Prime Minister - Union of the Southern Cross". Her voice wavered somewhat, she looked grave, tired, it had been a long night in meetings. After the sinking of the Wary and the subsequent strikes on the other vessels, things had been subdued, there was none of the usual upbeat joy in her voice, as she opened her mouth.

"Last night, as everyone knows, a naval task force, engaged in humanitarian patrol off the coast of the Independent Australia Disputed Zone, was struck by an unprovoked and heinous attack. We can now confirm that the patrol boat Wary, was indeed sunk, with all hands lost. The patrol boat Alert was disabled in the barrage, and its crew was forced to abandon ship, eight casualties can be confirmed amongst her twenty-four crew. The replenishment ship Supplier suffered two missile strikes, one failed to detonate, the other wrought destruction to her amidships, and left five casualties.

From the wreckage of the undetonated missile that struck the Supplier, our initial investigation has led us to believe that the nation of Pihana has perpetrated these attacks. For whatever reason, this nation has gone out of its way to spill blood of the Southern Cross, blood that has now stained the jeweled waters of the Indian Ocean. Our nation has turned aside and overlooked events in the past, the downing of four aircraft, a mortar strike along our border. We feel that this most recent attack was the direct action of the government of Pihana, these missiles were launched from their territory, and match technology used by the military of Pihana. The Union has buried its dead for too long because of the actions of this nation, with no justice for those men and women who put to sea, or take to the air in the service of our nation. While we can all agree that members of the military all know they face death from the moment they wake up in the morning, these deaths are an injustice, and a spit in the face.

We had hoped that Pihana had improved itself, its security, its demeanor since the last strikes. Now, we call for peace, for a peaceful end to the resolution of this Independent Australia business, and we find our ships under attack in the Indian Ocean. These actions have proven that the nation of Pihana is a unstable and hostile member of the Oceanic Community, and we will not tolerate it any longer. We see what giving chances has done for us, it has spilled more blood uselessly in the Indian Ocean. Justice shall be dispensed for this heinous act, we will not stand idly by, and watch more of our citizens and military personnel die.

With this statement, I have asked the Parliament and Council of Ministers to confirm a STATE OF HOSTILITIES with Pihana. We are also calling on any foreign military personnel based on the Australia continent to remove themselves immediately. We will allow safe passage through Southern Cross lands so that they may evacuate in good order.

We will have justice, and nothing will stop us from that endeavor, our patience has been pushed, and now it lies broken."

Camera flashes illuminated Whittaker, as she slowly turned, and left the podium, on television screens across the nation, pictures of the incident were broadcast, followed by a simulated digital animation of the Southern Cross flag.

"Independent Australia will provide any and all support that we can to the USC during this dark time. May hell swallow those devils from Pihana!"

Jude Bob
Independent Australia

Independent Australia

"Preapre to engage all available targets," Deltrane orders as he lets the leashes holding his dogs of war free to go about their deadly hunt.

"Roger sir," his radioman replies as he opens a channel and says, "Attention, all Legion forces are to immediately prepare to engage. I repeat get ready to KILL them all."

"DENGALI, DENGALI, DENGALI, DENGALI, DENGALI," the men of the 105th Independent Australia Battalion chant in unison as they prepare to engage the Pihanan targets in range of their positions. The spirit of that infamous battle that left a mere eight three Legionnaires still able to walk flows strongly in the veins of all Legionnaires and it brings a hammering to their chest as they prepare for battle.

Knives are brought out and sharpened. The NCOs of the Legion wander from position to position as they speak to their men. A common statement is, "You boys be sure to get in close, to kill em dead, give no quarter unless they surrender unconditionally. If they don't throw down their weapons, kill all of them. And kill them quick, we won't have time to bother with anything fancy and these scum don't deserve a warrior's death."

"Sir, what are the orders regarding civilians?" a Legionnaire asks.

"You must be fresh out of boot," the NCO replies.

"Yes sir."

"Legionnaires don't kill civvies on purpose. Hell it is war, bad things happen, but we don't ever purposely target civilians. EVER. To do so will get you a noose and a tree. YOU READ ME BOY?"

"YES SIR!"

And so it went as the 2000 men of the 105th Independent Australian Battalion suit up for battle. Weapons are checked, battle armor strapped on, communications predialed, artillery registered, and maps distributed. Logistical support is carefully prepared as well as men are given full loads of munitions, rations, and such. As this is happening coded burst signals are sent out to the deployed sniper teams.

The pull out of the majority of the Legion forces left the 4th Special Operations Group with not a whole heck of a lot to do. To keep busy their commanders placed them up in the hills, deep in the hills, and well under cover. They dug holes, they lived in these holes, the crapped in bags, they shooed off mountain goats, and mostly they waited and watched the roads leading into Independent Australian territory. Once they get their orders they breathe a huge sign of relief and get busy.

Sniper rifles are sighted, mines laid, silencers fitted onto the ends of weapons. The word is passed as snipers are given the go ahead to engage. Laser designators are brought online as the men keeping watch on the supply lines of the Pihana 5th Regiment get ready to unleash the deadliest of surprises.

To: USC Military Command
From: IA Military Commander Deltrane
Regarding: Strategic Air Support

Gents, it seems we face the same lot of villians. Us IA boys have our own on call close air support, but are woefully lacking in our strategic air assets and would get shot out of the sky if we tried otherwise.

We'd greatly appreciate it if yall could keep the Pihana Air Force on the ground while our Tac Air does its job in our Area of Operations.

My personal call sign is Papa Legion Six, and I can be reached at all times on the attached dedicated frequency. Do not hesitate to call should you need to speak. We also have quite a bit of room at our Airforce base in the event you need to divert damaged fighters or what not for safe landing. Our casa es su casa my friends.

"We would like to know what evidence you have that suggests it was an attack by pihana and not an attack from a rebellious group."
"The missiles were tracked from inside the territory of Pihana, not the disputed zone, and the missile that impacted the replenishment ship Supplier had markings from the nation of Pihana. Logically, there is very little evidence that a rebellious group had the weapon systems capable of making such a concerted and highly accurate strike. We also must point out that the rebellious groups in Pihana have shown that they are willing to parlay using the Southern Cross as a mediator, why would they bite the hand that feeds them?"

How do you know this all wasnt there intention? Hit you and blame it on us, then get you to support there cause. And they have already showed they are more than capable of launching large coordinated attacks. And since they are a rebelious movement they could easily of confiscated those weapons from out forces.

OOC: And you said in your other thread that your littel convoy was heading for the disputed zone.

OOC: I also said it stopped well south of said disputed zone, read the headers, buddy.

"You were the ones who wanted to strike them before the meeting, our intervention stopped you, so how do we know that you are not trying to frame them in an attempt to just end this through conflict? We can dabble in conspiracy theories forever, but those missiles clearly were made by you, and came out of your territory, behind a sizable force of your men."

With the sudden and unforeseen collapse of the Government of Pihana for reasons unknown, the Union of the Southern Cross and its military forces quickly moved into the territory and political power vacuum. Elements of the 5th (Airmobile) Division, based in Northern Queensland, quickly assembled and flew over the border into the recently vacated land of Pihana. Forces from other elements of the SCGDF began airlifting into Pihana as well, with numerous fighter escort above the troops which began securing strategic towns and crossroads throughout Pihana. Naval elements from the SCNDF began airlifting Marine units from vessels in the Arafura Sea into Darwin, which quickly secured the strategic port and airport there.

An international statement was issued by the government of the Union;
"Following the unforeseen collapse of the Government of Pihana, the Union of the Southern Cross, well within our sovereign rights, have begun occupying key points and positions in Western Australia. In an effort to enforce the rule of law and provide stable governance, we will continue this occupation for the time being, and are issuing a proclamation that asserts our authority over this land. We promise the former citizens of Pihana that no harm shall come to them for the past sins of their government, and promise only to ensure their protection, health, and continued way of life."

"The fight for Independent Australia is over. Our victory is at hand," Deltrane says to the camera. "Earlier today Jude Bob, the brave commander of Independent Australia fell in battle against the Pihana 5th Regiment (RP to come). At this time Legion, representing the interests of the Aborigine community, wishes to meet with a USC representatives. We several hundred wounded men and nearly one thousand or more captured soldiers of former Pihana we need to deal with in a humane manner."

Deltrane rubs the stump that is all that remains of his left arm before he finishes with, "It was a rough fight, no glory was found here, though never is there glory found on the field. Just death. Allah have mercy on the fallen and may the afterlife welcome all of them," with a sad look on his face as he returns to the doctor's table to have stitches put into his head.

"There you have it. The collapse of the Pihana Government didn't seem to reach the men of the Pihana 5th Regiment. The fighting between the Legion Contractors and the 5th can only be described as violent, bloody, and horrific. We are getting reports that at some points it was down to hand to hand fighting for the better part of several hours before the men of the 5th Regiment agreed to surrender. We also have reports saying they were allowed to keep their side arms, their regimental colors, and are being treated in Legion aid stations. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this," the reporter concludes.

We find the language of the government of Pihana most unbecoming given their current diplomatic situation.

Members of the 6th Mechanized Division stationed in the Pihana DMZ have been mobilized to the capital of to determine the current state of the government. If a collapse is indeed confirmed, the DMZ shall be opened to all traffic and Selenarctan personnel will assist the USC personnel in both re-stabilizing the region and ensuring no harm to Pihanan civilians occurs.

If the government of Pihana is found to still be functional, we highly encourage all parties to stand down. Even if the attacks did originate in Pihana-held territory, it is entirely possible that the Independent Australia separatist movement may be trying to frame the government of Pihana, or attacking warships about to enter the waters they claim using weapons looted from Pihanan armories.

Classified:
The 6th Mechanized Division is raised to HIGH ALERT. The DMZ shall be closed to all military traffic pending the report from the team sent into the capital city.

The 1st Task Force and the 2nd Task Force are also raised to HIGH ALERT.

With confirmation that the government of Pihana has indeed fallen, Selenarctos proclaims the termination of the Pihana Demilitarized Zone. Our previous second statement is hereby activated. Over the next month, current defensive measures shall be disassembled and removed, and Selenarctan personnel withdrawn from the former-Pihana territory.

Former Pihana peoples voice

We can confirm the downfall of the pihana governemnt. The capital building is under a rouge military group control and is killing anyone who gets to close. although we cannot confirm on the status of pihana government members we believe they are in the groups custody and still alive.

OOC: The group is a UAF task force see the UAF topic.

The Kingdom of Cochin is saddened by the collapse of the government of Pihana. We recognize the incorporation of former Pihana territories into sovereign USC territories. Union of Southern Cross is indeed an able custodian able to ensure the well being of the people of former Pihana.

As a fellow Indian Ocean nation, we wish the best to USC.

HH Kerala Varma,
The King of Cochin

"The Union of the Southern Cross extends its thanks to the nations of Selenarctos and the Kingdom of Cochin for their actions and words in these times of tumult on the Australian continent. We ensure that our quick intervention will prevent any unnecessary chaos for the civilians of the former nation of Pihana. We do not blame the citizens of former Pihana for what could have been an attack by their government against our ships, and we will ensure that proper democratic governance of these people will ensue once security is ensured. Food, medical supplies, and any other essentials are currently being transported into the territory right behind our troops.

Members of the Southern Cross National Police force, the Royal Australian Mounted Police (RAMP), are embedded with the troops to ensure that troops will properly observe a law-enforcement type stance. There shall be limited military martial law applied in areas that may prove to be troublesome, however, no suspension of basic rights will occur. We have independent Southern Cross-based humanitarian rights analysts and legal personnel watching the situation closely, any troops in breach of these rights and going against orders shall be prosecuted under USC Military Law."
