  1. So you're assuming we're trying to lure your nations out of peace, beat on them, and then enforce the same terms as we initially proposed? Aside from that being incredibly unrealistic, it's incredibly paranoid. You expect us to trust you in every offering, but watch us with a distrusting eye. Did you expect that two nations was going to flip the entire peace process and have us come out with white peace? I'm not sure what planet you live on.

"Trust me, I won't hurt you"

    Seriously?

Last I checked, the opposing side wasn't trusting NPO to do anything on good faith. I'm not sure what "offering" you're referring to.

  2. Tut tut. Card-carrying fans know that I view the moniker moralist as an insult.
You feel that you've said something true, or at least interesting, but you have failed to take into account that you've made your statement just beneath an 800-word mini-treatise which matches exactly the "moral" position I advanced for the entirety of the time period that you liked me. The difference is not my morals, it is your position relative to me.
You're a small mind thinking in terms of persons rather than ideas.

Hehe "card-carrying fans". Maybe you aren't entirely gone, but merely temporarily lost. Maybe humour can remain intact while you pick and choose your soapbox for the day trying to retain some sense of former morality.

Don't misunderstand me though, morality and being a moralist are definitely not the same concept. You can still spout off walls of text about your views on treaties and how people should choose to sign them, you can ever rant off about the failings of OsRavan or the death of politics due to the stranglehold of the treaty web.

On what grounds though? You used to stand for something and were able to act on it, and you did act on it on multiple occasions. It's all relative I guess. Trading your soul for a chance to fulfill some grudges and have a taste of winning can't be all bad, right?

Just for background information: I haven't been in a position (relative to you) in almost three years that would make it convenient for me to admire your ideas. I'm not even sure if my first year could count as a position of convenience.

  3.

Since you're so emphatically upset about this situation of alliances using any kind of treaty to declare war, I thought for sure if we go back to the origin of this practice I would find you railing against it and the slippery slope it was bound to take us down.

So, I went to ODN's DoW against 64Digits, Cult of Justitia, etc because we had "gone to war with [ODN's] allies in MK." where "gone to war with" means MK attacked all of us without declaring war on us and when we retaliated ODN ~defended~ MK.  So, that's where I went, and you know what

    rvRxhwO.jpg

Well, it was a busy war.  Maybe ol' Moral Steve just missed that one.  So, I went to the other thread that established this practice that you loathe with such bile in your throat and heart, where MK and Umbrella announced that they had been attacking TPF without a DoW but it was "small scale" but that ML had retaliated and that !@#$ would not stand.  And I figured that was a bigger one, you would definitely be there, but you know what

    rvRxhwO.jpg

Steve could not be found.  And I'd bet dollars to dimes that if anyone with the time goes and looks for you railing against the concept of "coalition warfare" which "requires no treaties" in allocating resources, that they're not going to find you anywhere.  Because back then it was you benefiting from the practice's invention.

So tell me, Steve, what changed?  The simple answer is "Steve's place in the world."  But I'm a fair guy, so you tell us what changed.

It is honestly disheartening to see you defending the same people that I admired you for exposing and attacking over the past four years.

I suppose selectively choosing your battles on the OWF now still allows you to maintain some self-justification though.

This post amused me greatly. Take a look at the charts and you will see Polaris is doing nothing to preserve NS!

Oh right. Thanks for correcting me. I've been drinking tonight and thought for a moment that Polaris might be a puppetmaster in the oA coalition.

It's actually just TOP who are preserving themselves while the rest of you and your allies burn for a grudge match against an Order.... Which Order would depend on which propaganda you buy into I suppose.

  4. This is obviously not a gamechanger. We're here to help out our allies. We hold no ill will Pacifica, lets have fun shall we?

Humility and respectfulness shall never pass unrequited from me. I look forward to meeting you on the field of battle.

As for you "helping" your allies: While Polaris does indeed need help fighting us, it probably should be more of an internal campaign than a pile-on of NPO. But hey, save TOP and NpO's NS for post-war right? Wouldn't want the people pulling the strings to feel too much strain during war-time.

  5. It would seem to me that crushing the enemy in war and peace strategically is a core Pacifican value. As a former Pacifican myself, I am proud to have been a small part of perpetuating the classic NPO war philosophy of inflicting collective punishment and "salting the earth."

I see you don't really like to read what you link.

Vlad was making the point that it's natural for wars to come and go on Bob in the fashion that they always do. One side, with overwhelming numerical superiority, will find a "valid CB" through some means or another and declare war on the smaller side for an assured victory.

Naturally, some peripheral allies of the smaller side will foolishly flee in fear of losing pixels while they actually lose something much more precious.

Nowhere in that short essay did Vlad say harsh terms were acceptable or that "salting the earth" post-victory was a good thing.

  6.

I would not be so sure. I have learned from Pacifica's best, the legends that stood tall before your time. I stood within Pacifica's halls, and against them, long before your nation was conceived.

The fact that you would compare yourself and your incoherent ramblings to them is laughable at best.

Your ego and narcissism may match up against any of CN's worst, but your ability does not.

  7. While everyone here is arguing semantics about terms or harshness of terms, we have to remember a few things.

White peace / surrender / reparations / disbandments - The winners will force the losers to do whatever the winners think they can get away with.

EXCEPTIONS for when friends are on opposing coalitions, "respectable fighters" (read: "you may have use to me post-war"), or those rare alliances that still hold onto some kind of pseudo-morality.

Now, to elaborate on this; we need to look at history. The Vox Populi movement, the Karma war, Equilibrium (though not to the same extent as the aforementioned events) were all wars based off of "fighting tyranny". The very concept of harsh terms has been repeatedly rejected by the community as a whole, and repeatedly brought back into play by the winning side.

Multiple people will selectively quote that last sentence and say "MK/TOP/GOONS/whoever aren't as evil as pre-karma NPO" and I would again like to point to "what they can get away with."

    My thoughts anyways.

tl;dr - peace term word selection will always depend on the thoughts/feelings/plans of the winning coalition and their ability to enforce the terms.

  8. $6 million is worth a lot more to smaller nations than 100 tech is. Just as 100 tech is worth a lot more to larger nations than $6 million is.

Looking from a buying-range nation's perspective: Yes, 6/200 or even 6/100 is a great deal when you look at the cost of buying the tech yourself. However, a brand new nation can buy almost 1000 infra with $6 million. Whereas a larger nation might be lucky to get 10 infra for $6 million. Are you seeing my point? You're trying to compare numbers that hold different values for different people and trying to conform the value of both tech and money to your own definition (which is likely a larger nation's definition).

What's actually happening in the tech deals that we've established here on Bob, is that two goods of equal value (as agreed upon by both nations) are being exchanged.

Also, need I even dismiss your notion of nation age/size relating to political power? The only leg you have to stand on here is how newer rulers, for the most part, need time to adjust to politics, systems, and dealing with people on CN before they can be trusted with power over other nations.
