  1. Yeru's proposal sounds interesting. Keep the base points for everyone, but turn IG ships into points along the lines that the points system is going already.

And make carriers hilariously expensive to keep their numbers low. :V:

If y'all have the patience to wait a day I'll try to come up with something reasonable tomorrow, if I find the time.

I'll probably be going for "Your number of IG ships times this arbitrary number is your points limit."

  2. [Public]

"The Principality of Tikal hereby declares under its formal protection - not merely under the Monroe Doctrine - all of Ecuador, as well as the following regions of Peru:

Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Caja Marca, Ancash, Amazonas, Loreto, San MArtin, Huánuco, Pasco, Ucayali, Junín, Callao, and all of Lima.

Should any nation desire to voice their disapproval, please send a missive to the Directorate of Diplomacy of Tikal."

Following up on the declaration was the deployment of 120,000 soldiers as well as supporting armoured and Walker elements, in addition to the 40,000 already stationed in the mentioned regions. It wasn't expected that anyone would complain much - Tikal always had a good reason for doing what it did, no?

  3. "I believe that would be all for the time being. Thank you for your time, Mister President. I quite enjoyed my stay here, short as it may be." With this, the Prince stood and shook President Frank's hand, he and his entourage leaving a few hours later.

Two days later, a public announcement was made by the Prince and the Princess that the Confederacy of America's independence would be guaranteed by the Principality - any who attacked it would be treated as having attacked the Principality directly.

Perhaps a week later, construction of rail lines would begin, starting at Tikal's border cities and moving northwards.

Still a week after that, a sizeable team of scientists and researchers from Tikal, accompanied by some troops as guards, travelled north to the Cave of the Crystals to set up camp and begin their research into the caves. Some equipment had been brought by them, though it was possible that they needed more at a later time. If so, they'd request it from home.

Work in the provinces to improve infrastructure was ongoing. While this was happening, proselytisers travelled to and through the cities, trying to spread the Popol Vuh and its greatness to the people.

[Internal - Cordoba, Sucre and Bolivar, 4/7]

After all, had the Principality not brought its people into an era of unprecedented prosperity and peace? Had it not prevented warfare throughout the Americas?

[Internal - Cauca and Valle del Cauca, 4/7]

And had it not been the Prince and the Princess who had made all this possible, they who were the great Builders who created Tikal's foundations? Had it not been them who made it all as it was?

[Internal - Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Huila, Caquetá, Amazonas, Putumayo and Narino, 4/7]

"Vigilance is our shield, that protects us from our squalid past. Knowledge is our weapon, with which we carve a path to an enlightened future," so speak they who follow the Popol Vuh. As the men speaking of Tikal's religion walked these lands, they spread zealously their influence, converting many, and some of those in turn converting friends or family. Soon, like Tikal proper, the spread and dominance of the Popol Vuh was inevitable.

  5. [Internal - Archipelago, Chocó and Antioquia, 3/7]

Work to improve infrastructure in the provinces started. Chocó needed improved roads, and a connection to Tikal proper. Electric infrastructure was in relatively good shape, and it should be able to handle the loads that came with becoming part of the Principality. There were some problems with water, but that could be rectified easily.

[Internal - Cordoba, Sucre and Bolivar, 3/7]

Sucre had problems in nearly all categories, and serious effort was required to repair or replace everything. Tens of thousands of workers were temporarily brought into the province to help in order to make things go faster while retaining high quality work. This didn't yet factor improvements to harbours in.

[Internal - Cauca and Valle del Cauca, 3/7]

Unsurprisingly, Cauca was in best shape. Only relatively minor improvements needed to be done in the larger cities, even if things further away deteriorated some. The province was low priority for the time being.

[Internal - Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Huila, Caquetá, Amazonas, Putumayo and Narino, 3/7]

Narino, meanwhile, was bordering on catastrophe, if reports from analysts were to be believed. True, much of the province was 'adequate' for the people living in it, but for Tikalians, the standards of living were atrocious. Everywhere needed improvements, upgrades, replacements and so on. Much like Sucre, tens of thousands of temporary workers were sent to help repair roads, build maglev rails, improve the infrastructure and so on. It was a massive effort disproportionate to the relatively low population, even more so when compared to the other, generally more populous provinces.

  6. "A guarantee of independence could be arranged, yes." The Prince nodded, smiling slightly. "Though I honestly doubt that anyone would attack you, unless your diplomatic corps went around and insulted every nation on the face of the planet," he added with a chuckle.

"In terms of resources, Tikal obtains the vast majority of its needs from extraterrestrial sources - asteroids, to be precise. These operations yield enough that we'll be able to sustain our current growth for a very long time, even if no new sources were accessed. So unfortunately, we don't have much need for the products of your mining industry - nevertheless, I would be glad to provide some subsidies for industries further down the branch, refining resources or creating products, to help your economy grow and strengthen. There is one place I'd like Tikal to have unrestricted and sole access to, though - if you don't mind, that is. The Cave of the Crystals, near the mining town of Naica. Could that be arranged?"

  7. The Princess of Tikal would attend the party personally, arriving in the Principal Concorde at La Paz' international airport, swiftly proceeding to the venue of the event. She was quite curious about who else would be attending, besides Foch himself.

  8. [Internal - Archipelago, Chocó and Antioquia, 2/7]

The first step for all provinces was to analyse how things were in general within them, in terms of infrastructure, civil services, and so on. What could be upgraded, what had to be replaced, was there something entirely missing? Chocó didn't have a reliable connection to the rest of Tikal. This means that the swamps in the northwest of the province would have to be removed in some regions, even if it meant hurting the environment a little.

[Internal - Cordoba, Sucre and Bolivar, 2/7]

The evaluation was ongoing in all provinces, though some were further ahead than others. Troops in Sucre had found out that some communities deeper inland were without regular electricity, something that had to be rectified. Coastal harbours weren't quite able to deal with the influx of goods they were getting from the rest of Tikal - expansion was needed.

[Internal - Cauca and Valle del Cauca, 2/7]

Cauca, on the other hand, was well-developed, as one of Colombia's largest harbours. However, it was a Pacific port, and so one of the ports that would soon receive trade from Tikal's allies in the Pacific and Indian oceans. Whether it would need expansion as well remained to be seen. Still, the larger cities throughout the province would see new technologies flow in as Tikalian companies established themselves.

[Internal - Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Huila, Caquetá, Amazonas, Putumayo and Narino, 2/7]

The for the most part scarcely populated province of Narino would be the most difficult to integrate. Mountains, rainforests and many other different terrains in such a small area made adaptability necessary, and even then it was difficult reaching all communities. Sometimes, roads seemed simply impossible to build. But, it was only another obstacle in bringing these people into Tikal and showing them the greatness of the Popol Vuh.

  9. A town hall being used wasn't too surprising, considering that the provinces had, to the Prince's knowledge, not hosted a grand capital or anything of the sort previously. Still, modesty was a good trait, perhaps one that the Confederacy might keep.

Once in the meeting room, he chose simply water to drink.

"It was no trouble, Mister President. I am glad that the Confederacy rose when it did - we were contemplating on integrating the lands you are in, but now it is no longer needed, with your centralised government uniting the three regions.

"Now, anyways. What would you be looking for in the Confederacy's and Tikal's mutual relationship?"

  10. Only a select few servants would accompany the Prince to the meeting aside from the Guards, the rest staying with the Concorde. The short meeting with the VP and various staff went well, with no surprises, while the trip with the Limousine would go mostly silently, other than the Prince listening to whatever the President had to say. He himself didn't have anything to say at the time, though he was curious about the new nation, its values and what it would look like in a few years. There had been some entities lasting mere days, after all. He hoped the Confederacy was not one such nation.

His Highness is willing to visit you in your capital of Chihuahua. He will travel to your capital in 3 days, accompanied by 4 personal guards and 56 personal servants."

Precisely three days later, the Principal Concorde arrived at the capital's airport, bringing its most important passengers to the new nation.

"Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching."

Tikal was the protector of the Americas, that was nigh-indisputable. It had protected the continents ever since its inception, against Hawaiian incursion, French colonialism and more. However, to some, the nation didn't have a solid, permanent presence on the South American 'Mainland', despite Panama bordering the southern continent quite directly.

The timing was good, as recent surveys in Colombian provinces had shown that several were open to joining Tikal. Appropriate measures were taken, and troops dispatched to oversee integration.

    [center]nYtiGQv.png[/center]

The [Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina (short 'Archipelago'), Chocó and Antioquia, 1/7] were the first and closest of the provinces for integration, shown in yellow on the map. They already were influenced by Tikal's culture, but now enough. The combined population was 6,865,380, though expected to grow in due time, and with a combined area of 110,194.5 km². The provinces would be merged into Chocó.

[Cordoba, Sucre and Bolivar, 1/7] all had a coastline in the Caribbean and so were influenced by the Principality, but less so. It would take more effort to integrate these, though the lower population - 4,542,100 - resulted in expectations of it being integrated around the same time as Chocó. The three provinces, their combined area 61,915 km², would be combined and referred to as Sucre, red on the map.

[Cauca and Valle del Cauca, 1/7] had the lowest area of the regions to be annexed, with a total of only 51,448 km², but the population was large, 5,914,940 people living there. With a coastline in the Pacific, they were far more exposed to Tikalian culture than the Caribbean regions, and so it was likely that lesser efforts to convert them would yield similar results as in Sucre. The region would be merged into Cauca, seen as green.

Lastly were a number of not necessarily smaller, but generally less populated provinces. [Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío, Tolima, Huila, Caquetá, Amazonas, Putumayo and Narino, 1/7] massed an area of 314,108 square kilometres, rivalling Germany in size (357,168 km²), but not population: only 7,589,774 people lived in the provinces, which would after integration be merged into Narino. The sheer size would require more resources to bring them properly in, but even the rugged, Andean terrain couldn't stop Tikal's proselytising, only slow it some.

Oh I thought Lynneth claimed all of Mexico, guess not. Hmm if I made a DoE there it would have to be a nation based on a Mexican culture wouldn't it?

It doesn't have to. The two coastal provinces (Sonora, Sinaloa) are in the process of being claimed by Hershey though, so you might want to talk to him about that. The 3 landlocked provinces (Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila) are free, however.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (the white bit West of Prussia and North of Saxony) should be part of Prussia. Thanks.

"What's more important, the data or the jazz? Sure, sure, 'Information should be free' and all that—but anyone can set information free. The jazz is in how you do it, what you do it to, and in almost getting caught without getting caught. The data is 1s and 0s. Life is the jazz."

With Tikal now owning numerous islands and other locations around the Americas, the SOSUS was upgraded and expanded to its hopefully final extent, building on the previously established network. It would take a few months, perhaps some years, but once complete, it would allow Tikal and all American nations - because they would be informed of notable movements that the SOSUS found, thanks to NWO - to anticipate possible invasion forces. The network itself wasn't changed much from the previous iteration, other than the software getting some updates, the database on ships being improved and a few other, mostly small things that would permit the Whole to work better.

Meanwhile, with Baffin fallen, 3,000 men were sent there to keep the peace and help local governments with their work, as usual.

Chak stared out of the reinforced window at the large, blue marble, filling out much of his view. At the upper edge of the 'circle', really a sphere, he could spy Japan, only just experiencing the sunrise. On left side of the lower edge, he could just so make out Newfoundland and bits of Canada. A beautiful place. The cradle of humanity. And for most of it, the only place they had.

He shook his head and brought his attention elsewhere; that is, the running shower in the bathroom, the open door to which was to his back. He had finished his own shower just minutes ago, hair and skin still somewhat damp, waist covered by a towel. He didn't mind the water dripping onto the bed - the well-used sheets would be replaced the moment he and Shana'Kin left the orbital station for a trip to the Jovian colonies

Speaking of his beloved, she was taking suspiciously long with the shower. He stood and walked to the door, listening to the still-running water.

"Dear?" He stepped into the room, turning towards the shower. She had her back to him and was in the process of shampooing her beautiful, almost shimmering hair. She stopped for a moment upon registering his entrance, but soon continued her work.

However, she did speak, "I've been waiting for you to get curious. Now come on in already."

He raised an eyebrow, knowing well that she couldn't see it. "But I finished my shower earlier already."

She sighed and stopped, turning her head a little to look at him out of the corner of her eyes. "I don't care. Now come in and help me."

"Alright, alright, just give me a moment." He chuckled, closing the door and dropping the towel, then joining his beloved in the shower.

Jupiter could wait another day or two.
