1. Landing at the international airport of Dawn and Dusk was but the first step of the journey, Ouibliant would find. Instead of by the Princess, a dignitary of hers received him, a woman sporting numerous heavy-duty augmentations, yet well-dressed, wearing the emblem of the intertwined Sun and moon on both shoulders, signifying the important of her Duties. She was accompanied by some honour guards of the Ba'ate'xib.

th_0hDOmOQ.jpg

She bowed deeply. "Welcome to the Principality of Tikal, Minister Ouibliant. It is an honour to receive you here. I am T'aan Xochitl Necalli, Messenger of Sun and Moon. I hope very much that your flight was pleasant. For the duration of your visit, I and these Ba'ate'xib shall accompany you during the short journey to the meeting. Please, follow me."

She had returned to an upright position by then, making a sweeping hand gesture to behind her where a VTOL craft was already waiting, a T-23 Awat.

"If you have any questions during the short journey, please do not hesitate to ask. I have been instructed to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability, Minister."

After the group had entered the craft, it would swiftly take off and travel to the location of the meeting, some beautiful islands just off the coast, perhaps 30 kilometres south of the capital itself. Considering the short distance, the craft would barely even be able to reach its full cruise speed before having to slow again for a landing, taking under three minutes.

th_a7QMwcz.jpg

These buildings were both a holiday resort for more successful citizens, and now a meeting location between the Princess and the French Foreign Minister. The craft touched down on the roof of one of the skyscrapers, and Ouibliant would be led to the actual meeting room.

The Princess was currently sitting with the window behind her. At the time, it was displaying a view of the planet from orbit, making it most likely a massive holographic TV or something of the like. Upon seeing the Foreign Minister being led in, she stood and inclined her head in greeting. "Mister Ouibliant, good day. I hope the short journey from the airport wasn't too much of a hassle?"

their highnesses have received your request for a meeting, They have decided that discussions would be prudent at the time, and so will receive your foreign minister in Dusk and Dawn, our capital.

Her Highness will receive your envoy and his entourage.

Establishing a nation from nothing was difficult work, but many in the Chairman's Council were experienced in one way or another, allowing efforts to go more smoothly than they would have otherwise. Of greatest concern for now was creating a cultural identity beyond what the Communion's people currently had - that being mostly Spanish or 'Mayincaztec' heritage, depending on the region.

Much had to be done to make the communion a true Worker's state, and the first step was to work on how to best allocate manpower. One theory was that everyone should be equal in every way, and that all people should share power in government, though be free to temporarily 'lend' their power to others, chosen or elected agents of sorts. Another was that every person excelled at a certain task or combination of tasks, even without much training. Had there not been a great many well-known prodigies throughout history, and many more unknown but no less important? A blacksmith creating armour without peer, or a horse breeder who instinctively managed to find himself with a superior breed of horses?

Surely every person had something they excelled at beyond normal improvements through practise. It only needed to be found.

Further, to organise all this, new systems were needed. For this, engineers and scientists were set to the task of creating a computing machine inspired by Turing, von Neumann and Konrad Zuse's works. George Boole's works were taken into consideration as well, but it wasn't yet known whether it was possible to implement it in any way.

4. Also, iamthey needs to be PMed because he hasn't posted recently enough and should technically be removed from the map.

It's not my duty to PM people to see that they stay inactive. As for his inactivity, I'll look for his posts when I do the next update, because I finished and only just saw this post underneath the other.

That said, Update.

"Preliminary analysis indicates that our rivals have developed a safe and reliable method to simulate conditions existing on the interior of a stellar mass. The fabrication and transmutation of materials possible in such an environment guarantees significant industrial and military applications."

The M-59 Okol [Marauder] was a highly advanced multi-role aircraft designed to be capable of engaging any known aircraft in the world while outnumbered, and win. It was fast, durable and well-armed, making it just as adept at dealing with fighters at it was engaging bombers or interceptors.

th_Crystal15.jpg

The greatest advances in performance came from setting aside old conventions of aircraft design. The fuselage of the Okol contained a network of powerful integrated thrusters that provided lift and propulsion, with the stubby forward-swept wings mostly being used for fine manoeuvring. Though the wings contributed heavily to the overall agility of the craft, it was in fact entirely capable of flying without them. The same could be said for the tail and vertical stabilisers, where the traditional vertical arrangement had also been replaced with a forked design.

With so few aerodynamic concerns, attention could be focused on combat performance instead. The armour-plated shell of the aircraft was fabricated entirely from hardened Alenium materials and was nearly two inches thick in some areas, making it more akin to a flying tank than a normal aircraft. It also was the first plane to employ hard-light shielding, with two generators providing excellent protection. The extra engine thrust allowed it to carry more armaments than most planes, making it a well-rounded, if non-stealthy combatant. The resulting aircraft was squat, ugly and capable of completely destroying practically anything it encountered.

In the end, integrating the states could be considered completed, even though it had really just begun. But the foundation had been lain, and so the people of the new states would in time come to accept all these new things that were practically flooding their senses. With the passing years and decades, they would not just accept the Tikalian culture, but become part of it.

[Internal - 'Guayas' 7/7]

Military bases were completed throughout the states, defence systems were fully operational. Services were running at optimal capacity and capability. Pichincha and Guayas were now officially part of the Principality. An appropriate, short announcement was made, and maps changed.

6. With war suddenly having broken out over the Panama Canal, the Communion decided to move five divisions to each side of the Canal Territory. Combatants found within Communion orders after having fled from bombardment would be detained temporarily until they could be sent by ship back to their home-country's mainland.

A public message was sent to both the CSA and Procinctia.

"The Communion will not interfere in the fighting unless combatants and attacks occur into Communion territory. Soldiers from either side will be detained for 2-4 weeks, until transport can be arranged to send them back home, if they are found illegally trespassing on our territory.

"Further, we will be stationing troops near the Canal zone-Communion border to prevent fighting from spilling over. Our forces will try to make themselves highly visible in order to let bombers and the like know that they are non-combatants. Attacks on our forces will be dealt with locally."

7. [Reply from the Communion]

"Señorita President Solorzano,

we apologise deeply, but no diplomat or representative from the Communion can attend your summit at the time.

With regret,"

1st Chairman of the Communion,

Fernando Restrepo
Appointed by the People

8. "The Communion is, as Chairman Restrepo said in his grand announcement, a Worker's State. I suspect most reactionary or other bourgeoisie states would gladly call us Communists, though we distance us from Stalin's failed state or Mao's catastrophe of a revolution. Our goals are self-sufficiency as far as it is possible, as well as working to strengthen our nation's factories and construction capacities. At the time, I believe that the Chairman and his Council are planning to introduce the eight-hour workday, as well as forbidding child labour completely, so they may go to school instead, and a benefits-plan for all Workers and citizens over the age of 18." He took a sip from the alcoholic drink.

"So I would say we are solidly leftist, though an official foreign policy has not yet been finalised. As such I cannot give an opinion on this 'American community' you speak of, not at the moment."

9. I would, if anything, prefer Yeru's interpretation - all nations have 800 points, no matter how many players are inside.

An alternative I could feasibly think of would be that each 'merged' player adds only half/a fourth/etc of their 800 points. So a 2-player nation would have 1200, 3 would have 1400, etc.

"Will we next create false gods to rule over us? How proud we have become, and how blind."

The T-23 Awat [Shrike] was a VTOL aircraft combining the functionality of a helicopter with the performance and speed of a conventional plane. It was a major upgrade to previous dropships and transport helos, being easily twice as fast and able to carry more troops or material. It also was better-equipped for operating in urban areas, Tikal being so densely populated as it was.

th_Crystal14.jpg

The Awat was a rugged, boxy creation as effective as it was ugly. It used a pair of tilting TF-19 turbofan engines to cruise through the air at supersonic speeds and then perform a vertical landing at the target site. The monstrous turbines themselves were driven by two sizeable ER-12 Alenium reactors, providing sufficient power to keep even a fully-loaded craft airborne for up to 24 hours. In fact, the range limitation was rather due to pilot fatigue than fuel capacity.

However, the most important result was the greater carrying capacity than previous dropships. The Awat could easily carry loads a CH-47 Chinook might struggle with, and up to 80 troops or up to 30 tons in vehicles. One of the very few transport helicopters able to carry more was the Mil V-12, and it was ageing, and lacked the Awat's speed.

Statistics

• Top Speed - 1,350 km/h (Mach 1.1)
• Range - 26,900 km
• Empty weight - 38,700 kg
• Gross weight - 70,100 kg
• Max takeoff weight - 75,300 kg
• Service Ceiling - 5,300 m
• Armament - 1 autocannon equiv. under nose; 1 autocannon equiv., optl., on loading ramp

Note: Armaments can be replaced with laser/plasma weapons.

In time, the bases and defence systems were completed throughout the states. Luckily, the population had been highly cooperative, permitting the project to be completed with minimal delays. And though there were differences in the states and even individual regions in how well the people worked with Tikal to integrate the states, one constant was that missionaries spread the new faith and public education, with teachers flown in from the core lands, spread the culture. Today's resentment would slowly change into tomorrow's acceptance.

[Internal - 'Guayas' 6/7]

In time, Ecuador's people wouldn't see themselves as Ecuadorian anymore, but as Tikalians. Life was too short to not enjoy if after all, and so it was practically assured that even the most stubborn would eventually come to accept their new lives. Sure, it was a case of mass-Stockholm syndrome, but when it happened on a state-level, it was deemed acceptable. The people would be happy in the end. Happy, protected and without the need to make the hard choices on their own.

11. "As long as the CSA can guarantee us freedom of movement through the Canal zone to reach both halves of our nation unimpeded, and as long as we are guaranteed to move our naval ships through the Canal, the Communion will not interfere with the Confederacy's operations. Is this agreeable?"

12. Salavarrieta thanked the aide with a smile, then turned back to McBride.

"I would like to think that our ideology differs from the Bolsheviks in a few ways, such as not sending random people or 'subversives' to gulag-equivalents. The Workers will always have the right to depose of the Chairman, if he becomes a demagogue, for example. The Military swears its oath to the Workers, not the state. Things like that. And though we do wish to spread our ideals elsewhere, achieving it through war or bloody revolution is not likely to produce good results. One need only look at the catastrophe that is China." He sighed and took a sip of the wine.

"Regardless, so long as your government does not hound the Workers, and so long as the Workers of your nation do not embrace violence, I'm sure that we'll get along reasonably well at the very least. Better, if both of us put a little effort into it, I would say."

13. "Thank you for the warm welcome, Señor McBride." Salavarrieta sat down with little pomp, asking for white wine and water if offered refreshments.

"I'm sure that we can establish a good relationship between our nations, though I must note that goals and ideology will play a part in this. That said, I would like to ask what sort of state the Enclave is? I haven't exactly been given much time to prepare myself before coming here. The Communion is, as the Chairman said in his announcement, a Worker's State. I suppose you would call it socialist, or communist?"

14. Pombo found his smile less forced than expected. At least they had brought a woman into a position of power, a sign of some equality. He sat in the offered chair, asking for a small glass of Tequila, and some water to chase it for refreshments.

"Señorita President, I was led to believe that you had something to discuss with the Communion - why else inviting us to visit your nation? So no, I travelled here without anything of great note on the Communion's part to speak about."

15. Jorge Pombo was the name of the Worker-Diplomat chosen to travel to Mexico. He felt anxious, travelling to a stronghold of bourgeoisie, into the heart of skyfather-worshippers.

But it was deemed necessary, if only to permit the Communion to establish itself and delay a crusade from the north.

16. Antonio Salavarrieta was the chosen Worker-Diplomat who would travel to the American Enclave for the diplomatic meeting. His aircraft was one of the latest, and he felt quite safe travelling in it. Truly, the Worker's accomplishments were many and great!

The craft landed in Philadelphia, and Salavarrieta stepped off the plane, followed by a few aides and a single Guardsman. He was curious as to the impression he'd get from the Enclave.

17. Comrade,

We are glad to see a new Latin state rise, just to the south of our borders. This is truly great news and shows the further awakening of the Americas. While tensions are high between Mexico and the European powers, please, Senor Restrepo, come to Mexico City, and together we can begin to build a unified and strong Latin America once again!

-Amalia Solorzano

"The Communion thanks you for your recognition, though we must stress that we are not a Latin state, nor Christian like you are. The Commune is a Worker's State, in which there are only Americans.

However, we will for the time overlook our differences and agree to a meeting. A diplomat will be dispatched and travel by plane."

"The American Enclave recognizes the Communion of America, and invites it to Philadelphia to establish relations and discuss issues of mutual interests."
- Secretary of State Simon McBride

"We thank you for your recognition. A diplomat will be dispatched and travel to the Enclave by plane."

The first thing that was done in the Communion was a Census. The Chairman and his Council needed to know how many people lived in the nation, after all. How many Workers, Children and Elderly.

It was completed with great efficiency, taking mere days.

Pops.png

The nation's total population thus came to 30,849,916 people, with the majority concentrated in the Colombian territories.
