1. With no recognition granted yet, Tikalian troops in the protectorate claimed to be the USNA prevented large-scale access to weapons stores, citing the need for an agreement between the governments first before permitting access to all stores. For the time being, 50,000 troops were permitted to equip themselves with small arms.

In the meantime, Tikalian forces would continue their duty of keeping the peace in the protectorate, working together with police forces, as they had done for the last years, since the first fall of New England. And in the years before New England's first rise.

2. [Highly Classified]

As the conflict was imminent, Tikal's fleets - already at high alert status - went into highest alert and all weapons were given the 'free' designation. The fleet from Bermuda had joined the main fleet by now, if some distance away to prevent easy targeting of all at once, while the fleet at Trinidad was further south, using support of 2 AWACS planes to shadow the Carthaginan fleet just outside of their awareness range. All fleets were arranged in a pattern that protected the carriers, at the same time not too close together to prevent easy targeting of multiple vessels. The fleets were arranged for defence, leaving offense to air units for now, but also readying their missiles for offensive operations.

All defence systems would be brought online nearly at once while Sat comms fed the allied fleets British and Carthaginan positions through the SOSUS network if the British/Carthaginans were anywhere near it, and through information obtained from Druk Yul's ARES system. Carriers launched 2 squadrons with CAP configuration, the rest of the planes equipped with Anti-Air or Anti-Shipping configurations.

All communications were going through satellite, minimising detection and interception. If allied forces or satellites detected any missile launches, detection systems for missile defence systems would immediately come online to counter the threat. Radar was otherwise held in standby until the enemy forces were detected. If missile launches from Carthaginan ships or land-positions were detected, Tikal would retaliate immediately and without mercy. Orders were to fire up to 600 missiles with mixed Harm/optical and mixed Radar/optical guidance from the southern fleet that had been shadowing Carthage's ships and again as much from the main fleet further north - but only in the case of such retaliation occurring.

As soon as allied or Tikalian forces had detected the Brits, all systems were to be brought online at full capacity, targets to be painted by AWACS and fleet-integrated fire control systems. A grand total of 1,000 Tomahawk ASM and Harpoon missiles were readied, then fired at the Brits, several fit with decoy warheads, each mimicking a large formation of missiles in order to confuse hostile defence systems. The rest were fit with either HARM sensors or radar-guidance, and in both cases with specialised cameras that would recognise outlines of enemy vessels.

After the missile launches, the fleet's entire complement of fighters was launched, totalling 306 Rafales in support of allied airplane formations, coordinated with allied forces in every possible way.

In France, Tikal had 5 infantry divisions and 3 armoured divisions with assorted support vehicles, as well as three squadrons of Eurofighters. Two squadrons were placed on CAP, the rest prepared for AA and missile-interception duties, though packages for attacks on British holdings were prepared, as well.

Targets for Tikal's missile forces in France were predominantly radar positions, airfields for cratering, power plants, munitions factories and known stockpiles, as well as factories producing war materials and those able to be re-tooled to build such materials. Bunker busters would be fired at known airplane-bunkers and command bunkers. The missiles would be launched the moment French and EAI missiles launched.

From Tikal itself, missiles to destroy all known British satellite-assets would be launched the moment Missile Command got word of France and the EAI firing their missiles into Britain. Spy sats, communications, GPS, everything owned by Britain or a British company that might help their war effort was targeted in space.
Further, nationals from Britain, Carthage, Prussia, Novak, Romania, Sparta and Parthua would be expelled, if there were even any in Tikal, which wasn't very likely at all. Before being sent back to their homelands, they would be searched meticulously for any devices that might carry information or data, these devices being confiscated entirely. Those who complained would be reimbursed by being given enough Tikalian Quetzal that they could turn into their home nation's currency once back home to buy a new device.

With tensions rising, some troops were deployed back to Greenland, retaking it as protectorate. Further the Kujalleq military base was manned again. This time around, there wouldn't me much in the way of annexing territory, only the area of the base and its direct surroundings coming into Tikal's possession again.

Three fighter squadrons and two bomber squadrons would be stationed there, along with 5,000 ground troops, supported by 30 tanks. Radar, OTH and other defence systems would need between a few hours to two days to be brought back online.

4. President Citares' arrival at the airport followed an event-less flight, with its entirety going over Tikalian- or Brazilian-controlled territory. She would be greeted by a small delegation, led by an augmented yet well-dressed woman, wearing the emblem of the intertwined Sun and Moon on both shoulders, showing her significance to those who knew what it meant.

th_0hDOmOQ.jpg

The woman bowed deeply, "I bid you welcome to the Principality of Tikal, President Citares. It is a great honour to receive you here. I am T'aan Xochitl Necalli, Messenger of the Sun and the Moon. For the duration of your visit, I and these warriors of the Ba'ate'xib will accompany you and your entourage in the journey between here and the place of meeting. If you would please follow me?"

She motioned for the President and whoever she'd brought - likely some guards and aides - to follow her to nearby VTOL transports.

th_mike_hill_01.jpg

The three VTOLs looked quite imposing, each likely armed equally heavily as a Hind transport helicopter. The interior, however, was furnished to be highly comfortable, however, fit for a head of state. "This is the fastest and most reliable method of transport in all the Principality, so I hope you do not mind if it is only slightly cramped."

After all had entered the three craft, they would take off, flying at a reasonable pace towards the Pyramid of Twilight, much of the capital passing underneath them, visible through the windows and even screens on the floor itself, if so desired.

Dusk and Dawn was relatively young as a city, but its roots were old, with architecture inspired by ancient Maya and Aztec cities, built into a valley with steep - but by now mostly hollowed-out - cliffs on three sides. Often, the city was shrouded in fog, though some of the tallest spires pierced the vapour and reached up into clear air. Even on the ground, the sun was bright enough on most days for plants to grow freely and in abundance.

The city was a beautiful mixture of the old architecture with modern technology, with greater harmony likely achieved in only very, very few communities.

The VTOLs approached the very talled of the pyramids, a behemoth both steeper and reaching higher than the Pyramid of Cheops (also known as the Great Pyramid of Giza). They soon landed on a helipad that appeared as though it had been hewn from the artificial mountain's side, and Xochitl asked the President and his entourage out of the craft, to the entrance.

Within, the pyramid was entirely and totally opposite to the exterior. Where the outside appeared very much like it would fit well into Mayan cities of the 7th or 8th century, the height of the Maya Empire, the interior was far more modern and obviously technological - though the extravagant art style used by the Maya persisted throughout.

A mere minute later, the group entered a conference room 2 levels lower.

th_subaquatic_interior_by_theed_zoul_syn

On one side, swarms of fish swam in a large aquarium, while the opposite side had a view from the peak of the pyramid, moving slowly to show the entire 360 degrees of its vista.

At the table, with her left hand on its surface and typing something stood the Princess, looking up after a few moments. She hid her surprise well, perhaps not having expected the President to arrive so quickly.

"President Maria Citares, welcome to the Principality of Tikal," said she, bowing slightly and with a smile. "I am the Princess of Tikal, Shana'Kin Yaxchel Ik'nal. It's a great honour to receive you here. Thank you very much for coming to this meeting."

She motioned for the President and any aides she had brought to sit, taking a seat for herself at one end of the table afterwards. Necalli and the Ba'ate'xib moved to the far wall, guarding the room from there.

All forces of the Principality were put on medium alert, equal to Defcon 3 in the old US system. Fleets in the Atlantic would be brought to high alert, Defcon 2 equivalent. Production in armament factories and facilities would be ramped up to produce sufficient materiel for prolonged conflict, building on the large stockpiles that Tikal already possessed. Nearly 4,000 new ASMs would be ordered, while dozens and hundreds of satellites in various configurations would be built with great efficiency, two for each that Tikal already had in orbit - which likely was more than any two other nations, considering Tikal's incredible investment into the aether.

Tikal's SOSUS followed various nation's fleet deployments in the Atlantic where possible. Some satellites were redirected slightly to watch Europe and Africa more closely, giving greater observational capacities than previously. While the manoeuvres were going on in the Atlantic with Tikal's allies and friends, forces all over Tikal were preparing for deployment, ground troops, airplanes, and ships.

6. To: Federal States of Brazil; Ministry of Foreign Affairs

From: Principality of Tikal; Directorate of Diplomacy

Topic: Re: Diplomatic meeting

Body:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Tikal and Brazil have long been fellow American nations, but to date we have not had much interaction in regards to diplomacy. We would like to rectify this, and set up a diplomatic meeting either in our capital of Dusk and Dawn, or at a location of your choosing in Brazil.

We very much look forward to your reply.

With great regards,"

With naval manoeuvres to occur in conjunction with the EAI and several of its allies, Belize Command and Trinidad Command had been sent to participate. To make up for the momentary weakness, fleets would be shuffled around some.

Panama Command would be stationed in Bermuda, patrolling around the island.

Hawaii Command would be brought to Trinidad Base.

In turn, Michoacán Command would be moved to Hawaii.

Some forces would be moved and shuffled around on the ground and in the air, as well. Two air squadrons would be added to Bermuda, Thule and Trinidad Bases each, three to Hawaii. With the exercises, the attack submarines would be moved to patrol throughout the Atlantic to secure the rendezvous point and observe shipping, though the Tikalian SOSUS would afford an excellent view of naval movements in the ocean. One of the 'boomer' subs in the Pacific would be re-stationed with Trinidad as home base.

Furthermore, a division of infantry would be sent to each major Atlantic base, supported by two tank brigades each, and two MS battalions each. Munitions stockpiles in both Atlantic and Pacific bases were scoured for anything missing, and then ordered to be filled to 150% standard allotment, filling them near 75% capacity.

All observational capacities that could be spared were moved to watch European and African actors, mostly in space.

8. "The only direct interaction Tikal has had with the states actively attending this conference are EastAsia, and France. But our friendship with the former, the EAI, is deep and thorough enough that we will support them in their endeavours. If the EAI wishes to join the Great Lakes Republic in its mission, then so shall Tikal. that is the only thing I have to say for now."

Attending was the Prince of Tikal, though those looking closely would see the hint of someone else being in the room with him, that being a chair with its large backrest to the camera, concealing whether anyone was within it.

The Prince himself knew, of course, that his wife was in that chair, watching the conference through ocular screens.

9. "You speak the truth, I admit. France is a pivotal nation in European politics, and whether your state becomes dominant or overwhelmed may well determine whether expansionists and colonisers might look beyond your continent or instead be defeated and forced to try and hold onto what they have. The Americas are a beacon of stability, but can it continue without allies overseas?"

She took a deep sip of her drink, then closed her eyes and exhaled. She pinched the bridge of her nose, then moved the hand to loosely 'grab' her chin, index finger covering the mouth. Then she looked at the French diplomat. "I don't like it. My husband won't like it very much either, nor will many of our people. But sometimes the unpopular decisions are the important ones, the good ones. Tikal will sign a defensive pact with France, for better or worse."

10. The ship rules were voted on, I merely didn't get an updated, official set of rules to slap into the map thread. The map thread is not the ultimate authority on all rules, but what we voted on is. Shut up and accept that Yeru gets his ships.

11. [Private to the EAI]

"The Principality will be sending Belize Command and Trinidad Command to participate in the wargames. Further, five infantry and three armoured divisions with appropriate support and auxiliary vehicles can be sent to participate, as well as several aircraft squadrons, if so desired by our Asian friends.

With regards,"

[Classified]

The message sent, Tikalian naval forces would move from their home ports to the rendezvous point in the North Atlantic, travelling at full alert and always in full contact with the home nation and allied forces known to be in the region.

12. "I'll be frank with you, Monsieur Ouibliant. Tikal has not had good experiences with Europe to date. The first was, as you might remember, the issue with Quebec. At a later time there was an Icelandic government whose ruler used his friendship with us to justify some claim. After that, an uncooperative Britain and invading idiots calling themselves Saxons. And that's just our experiences - not those of our friends or allies. Europe hasn't made a good impression on the rest of the world as far as the Principality is concerned.

"I would call 'unequal footing' something of an understatement. Any sort of alliance will result in France gaining disproportionately more than Tikal - on the order of at least a magnitude, I imagine. Further, the Americas area peaceful and united. Even a purely defensive treaty with France may endanger this peace." The Princess sighed and leaned back in her chair. She didn't want to disappoint her Japanese friends, but the political realities weighed far too much to disregard them. While these issues persisted, any chance of a more serious treaty was slim, unfortunate as it may seem.

13. "Thank you. As for the meeting, I decided to assume little. France's full withdrawal from Quebec was noted of course, and is quite appreciated." She motioned for him to sit, then did so herself, in the same place where she'd sat just earlier, with her back to the impressive view of the window/screen.

"I suppose I could infer this or that, but I would really like to hear from you why France requested this meeting, Mister Ouibliant."

14. [Internal]

"Ah. This is obviously some strange usage of the word 'safe' that I wasn't previously aware of."

"Sooo..." She shuffled a little under the covers. It was a long trip to the Saturn colonies, with more free time than most people could feasibly use before getting bored. Just about 45 days there, another 45 days back - three full months of pure transit.

"Yes, dear?" He was curled up, his back to her. He just wanted to sleep, sleep the time away. But it was not to be, for his beloved wife kept him awake one way or another.

"I want a massage. Go on, work on my back."

"Eurgh." He grunted, curling up tighter. "Tell the bed to do that. It can do that."

He could practically hear her pouting, "But I want you to give me that massage, not a stupid robot."

"No." He placed the pillow on his head, a gross misuse of sleeping implements.

"But Chaa~k!"

"I said no, and it's gonna stay that way."

"You're no fun!" She turned away from him, surely pouting even more.

Finally, blessed silence. Sweet, sweet silence, the greatest sound to which he could fall asleep.

It was not to be. "I'm bored."

"Yes, Shana'kin, my love. I know that." He sighed inwardly.

"Can I massage you?"

"Good heavens. If you truly must, fine." He shuffled, stretching a little and moments later laying on his front. He felt her remove the blanket and kneel, her knees besides his hips. Through his eyelids, he noted the light levels receding, making a nap all that much easier.

th_Space_hotel_v2_by_Dekus.jpg

Then her magnificent, soft hands began to knead and caress his muscles. Yes, it was going to be a long journey. But he could bear it, like this. If only barely.

15. [Internal]

"Never make a sober decision that you have not considered while drunk."

With some recent scientific exploits covered in previous reports, this will give a short summary of improvements to general facilities thanks to the new technologies. The greatest improvements have been seen in Laboratories, research institutes and factories - in some places reaching efficiency improvements of up to 50%, be it faster construction or making work on new projects easier. New semi-intelligent computers, virtual intelligences, lessen the need for a scientist to apply their own brainpower to tedious or otherwise time-consuming tasks, for example.

th_Crystal16.jpg

There have also been a considerable number of less obvious improvements, which may eventually permeate the civilian market. Laser-based ovens capable of cooking food in mere seconds, or upgraded recreational activities with superior holographic entertainment capabilities, for example. However, a cleaning 'gel' that had been developed proved quite unpopular, despite it being far more efficient than soap and water - even leaving beneficial bacteria on the skin alive, only removing or destroying detrimental ones.

Finally, improvements in quantum communication technologies have been made. Future ansibles may lose up to 60% of their current bulk, shrinking from car-sized monoliths down to a good desk's volume. This will in turn permit their use in areas where their application was previously difficult to impossible. Unfortunately, however, transmission speeds are not affected by these improvements. They still are the equivalent of a dial-up modem in terms of speed of information transfer.
