RoK has sabotaged Steam.

That's what I keep hearing yet I can't get it to work

What system you running? Is it definitely up to running it? Also what monitor are you using? Are you using a proper monitor or a HDTV?

I've seen at least two of my friends on steam playing it, so I presume not. I haven't downloaded it, and probably won't, at least for a while.

It suggests:

Problem #11: Can’t launch Alien Swarm PC / encounter Launcher Error Failed to load the launcher DLL: (null)

Possible Solution #1: (by Valve Software support)

Verify the game cache files ( GCF )

Possible Solution #2: (by DerrickG from Valve Software)

If the problem persists, Exit Steam and browse to the game’s installation folder. The following path is the default:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\alien swarm\

Once you’ve located the game’s folder, delete the “Bin” subfolder.

Then, launch Steam and test the issue.

Things to try when it doesn’t launch:

Restart Steam

Restart Computer

Go the folder and launch the application directly

Validate integrity of game cache

Didn’t work?

Try this:

Go the folder in your steam index/common/alien swarm

delete the Type. file “srcds_run” and then revalidate the integrity of game cache. (I had to redownload 301 files)

Did you do everything else after verifying the game cache?
