Imperator Azenquor
BCNA News update 550,000 deaths "In a shocking review of the previous death toll, aid workers in the disaster area have reported a new figure of 550,000 dead, 90,000 missing and 410,000 injured. The totals were revised after the military gained access to remote areas and a new picture of the magnitude of the disaster. At this stage, the military continues the desperate search for survivors and to dispatch aid and humanitarian supplies. The new estimated numbers for deaths associated with the disaster has been raised to 750,000. To complicate an already tragic situation, a large aftershock struck the area measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale. Minimal damage was reported near the Emergency Shelters set up outside of the disaster zone. The relief effort continues in earnest as the military vows to work every single hour, day and night, to rescue persons trapped in the region. With the revised death tolls, the government has increased the pace of the rescue effort and has deployed an additional 30,000 soldiers to the disaster zone. Persons with serious injuries are stabilized at the Emergency Shelters and then flown by choppers to hospitals across Buryatia. This practice has permitted medical staff in the region to focus primarily on those who are in need of life saving assistance and who would not survive the trip to another hospital. Reports suggest that there are sufficient amounts of medical supplies and personnel in the region, but the Interior Ministry has reported a shortfall in the number of tents and blankets available. When questioned about the situation, a spokesperson for the Interior Ministry stated that additional supplies were being trucked in from neighboring provinces, as well as establishing contacts with other nations to source supplies. President Rokossovska, who spoke with survivors of the earthquake, promised that the necessary aid would arrive in time and that she would do everything in her power to provide the necessary assistance. While in the region, the President signed an Executive Order declaring 14 days of national mourning. With immediate effect all Buryatian flags across the country, and at Buryatian Embassies worldwide are to be lowered to half mast. We will continue to monitor the situation in the north of the country and will keep you informed of any developments."-Reporter ***News Credits*** To: The government of the Kingdom of CochinFr: The government of Buryatia Re: Assistance Due to a reassessing of the situation in the disaster zone, the government of Buryatia will be accepting your offer of assistance. We will prepare the Central Sakhan International Airport to receive supplies from Cochin via airlift. At this time, however, we decline your offer of a Disaster Relief Squad, as we have sufficient manpower in the region. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken all steps to ensure a smooth process for your aircraft to enter Buryatian Airspace and to bypass normal entry procedures.
