Fighting for the Future.

Outside the 17th Hansa rail station a collection of civilians and a few military soldiers were gathered together their eyes constantly watching their surrondings. In the centre of the group was Lady Valerie Kingswell wearing combat fatigues and a sub machine gun slung over her back whilst she conversed with the squad leaders she had appointed. She cleared her throat before continuing "Promised Land soldiers should be arriving shortly and with their added manpower and firepower we should be able to storm the government building and take back control from those idiots in power. Now all we ne..." she was intterupted by a private who ran over and informed her of the government dismissing the surrender terms and of the Dragon Empire's response. Cursing she sent the private away to send a message to the Dragon Empire before they attacked and made stuff worse. Now they just had to wait for the Promised Land forces.

Right about the time her message was sent off, the first roops began filtering onto the station. The lieutenant in charge of this group politely but firmly edged to the center.

"Lieutenant Walsh, Ma'am. I am here with 200 troops, and more are on their way. How may we assist?"

"Greetings Lieutenant Walsh I am Lady Valerie Kingswell as you know our government launched an unprovoked attack against the Dragon Empire and if we don't stop them then our entire nation will be destroyed. The problem is that almost all of the population is too afraid to stand up so we only have what we got on us. The plan is to storm the government building and take the government members hostage and end this war before it starts. The only problem is that we have about one hundred of us rebels and your two hundred soldiers whilst they have about five hundred men and possibly three or four IFV's. Any ideas?"

A heavily escorted high altitude bomber flies high over head. It does not drop bombs, but leaflets..

People of the region of Laos. The Dragon Empire has rescinded its recognition of the current government of the state of Laos based on irresponsible aggressive behavior patterns and abuses of power. You, as a collective, have 24 hours to prove you do not approve of your government's actions and to overthrow the current regime before a full scale military offensive by Imperial Forces will begin. If you do not rise up, we will view your in action as tacit approval of your governments behavior which will be the logic behind the war. We are giving you this time to resolve this situation internally amongst yourselves.

If a new government is appointed the offensive will be avoided, however meeting the terms set by the Dragon Empire for surrender will still be required of any new regime. The people of this region have indirectly been responsible for death and destruction for which there must be compensation in order for there to be a fulfillment of justice regardless as to which government seizes power. The blood of the fallen demand it.

We hope to meet your new government soon. We hope you will show that as a people you have the moral conviction to oppose the actions of your state. Until then, the prayers and thoughts of the People of the Dragon Empire are with you and we wish you health and strength to face the challenges ahead.

Signed,

"One of the planes directly behind ours was carrying a pair of light tanks, I believe. If they have received the same instructions as myself, we can put up a straight fight. Also, if you're willing to help with labor, we have some heavy, armor-piercing weapons still in our own plane, waiting to be unloaded."

At about that time, another leader marched forward, identifying himself as Captain Wall. "I just overheard Walsh's statement, and can confirm that. I am here to tell you that you will be supported by not just his 200 men, but four hundred more, and those tanks."

He then nodded to Walsh, allowing him to speak once more. "I suggest we try to draw out the IFV's into an ambush, so we can deal with them separately."

"Good we have a few vehicles that we managed to outfit with some mounted machine guns but thats it. Other than them all we have is small arms and even with your light tanks I am still worried a frontal attack will fail but we are in luck as it seems that a side street runs along behind the government building and if we take it, we should be able to blast our way inside. Still most of my men will be launching an attack as a distraction can I rely on your men to assist them?" explained Valerie as she looked over the map one last time and worked out who was to accompany her on the infiltration. Hearing the comment about drawing the IFV's out she shook her head sadly "won't work those damn things won't move away from the government building at all".

Walsh sighed, and Captain Wall spoke. "Very well. The tanks will support the diversionary attack. That should at least keep the IFV's focused away from the real threat. Do you wish any of our soldiers to help you blast through from behind? Oh, and we brought C4." He grinned at the thought of using explosives.

"I would appreciate it if you could spare maybe ten men as them plus the ten men I shall be bringing with myself should be more than enough to overwhelm the few soldiers inside the government building. We don't have much time though so we must begin the attack now" she said to the Promised Land officers before she placed an officers cap on her head and walked over to where her rebels waited. They turned to watch her and once she had their full attention she gave her speech.

"Men and women of Pax Pacis today we stand against the government and its lackeys. Today we stand for justice and freedom for they have betrayed us their people and if we do not stop them then we face a vicious time of war and destruction. It is a dangerous path before us but I believe in you all. Now let the attack begin!!! Let the future be ours!!!"

With her speech over the rebels cheered and began to move off to start the attack whilst leaving enough space for the Promised Land troops to join them. The plan was simple attack from three directions at the same time and keep the soldiers busy whilst Valerie and her team headed inside and stopped the government,

When walls asked for volunteers, he shook his head. He should have known that every man would step forward. Picking ten at random and putting the lieutenant in charge of the squad, he assigned them to personally join Kingswell, making sure they had the C4 with them. They were to follow her every order. (OOC: In other words, you can RP them if you like. They're not the elite, of course, but they are trained troops.)

He himself chose to lead their part of the diversionary attack.

In preparation, he had most of his men remove their uniforms and don civilian clothing. He didn't want them implicated in this if it went south. Those few who kept them, and the tanks that were called in, could easily be explained away as a rogue action by a few, instead of being part of a larger plot.

They drew near the area, the tanks breaking off from the patrol the Pax Pacis government had asked them to take, at rhe point closest to the capitol building. Once they were all in position just out of site of the building, they waited for the signal. It wouldn't be long...

OOC: Going to split the attack into four sections for each direction plus the infiltration.

IC:

South Attack

The signal was broadcast by radio and the attack began. The rebels moved along the streets swiftly staying away from the walls and using cover as best as they could as they approached the government building. They had hoped to get as close as possible without being spotted but with the Dragon Empire having dropped those leaflets the military had been on alert and a watchful soldier issued an alarm and soon the rebels found themselves under heavy fire as they dived for what cover they could find. The fighting bogged down into a stalemate as both sides exchanged weapons fire with each other.

East Attack

With the signal given the rebels launched their attack attempting as planned to use stealth to get close to the government building. Luckily for the East attack they were not spotted by the military and they were able to ambush a decent sized platoon of government soldiers before they were forced to give ground and seek cover as military machine gun positions kept them under supressing fire.

West Attack

The signal was made and the rebels made their way out to attack the government. They west attack had the problem of attacking down the main roadway through the city which is why they were supported by the four technicals the rebels had cobbled together. However, even they couldn't assist too much as the attack was supported early on and they came under heavy fire from the government soldiers and even more seriously three of the IFV's surronding the area. In the opening salvo from the government vehicles two of the technicals were destroyed before they could move out of the line of fire.

The Infiltration

Valerie's team had left the station following the trail of the Eastly attack before changing direction so that they wouldn't be caught up in a fire fight if they encountered problems. The team was making steady progress when a single high calibre rifle shot sounded and one of the rebels was sent sprawling to the floor a bullet hole neatly placed through his forehead. "Sniper!!" yelled Valerie as they all stepped back out of the sniper's line of sight.

OOC: Could you give a map of your advancements please?

OOC: This is the fight between the rebels and the government in Pax Pacis' capital city so it won't be anywhere near the Dragon Empire forces but I could try and draw up a map for the city fighting if you want?

The team was making steady progress when a single high calibre rifle shot sounded and one of the rebels was sent sprawling to the floor a bullet hole neatly placed through his forehead. "Sniper!!" yelled Valerie as they all stepped back out of the sniper's line of sight.

Southern Attack

Half of the troops had hung back, as a sort of reserve. This may have been a diversion, but that didn't mean they were going to give up the entire advantage. As soon as the attack bogged down, the remaining half (minus a few who had placed themselves as snipers, just in case) charged in, hoping to take the enemy by surprise.

Eastern Attack

They were fortunate indeed to have been able to ambush an enemy platoon, wiping them out. But now it was a simple, back-and-forth exchange of fire. They hadn't had time to retrieve many of their heavy weapons, but again, about half a dozen men had stayed behind to act as snipers where they could. They weren't often able to get a clear shot, but they took what opportunities that presented themselves.

Western Attack

This one was the most difficult of all. Very little cover meant that this would probably mean the highest number of casualties.

Maning that in addition to the cobbled-together technicals, they would be supported by the two tanks, which were just 20 yards behind the rebel's vehicles. When the IFV's opened fire, that presented the tank gunners with a clear line of fire, and the few soldiers still between them and the government IFV's ducked just as the loud BOOM! was heard from each of them. They quickly worked to re-load, not knowing if they'd hit, and not knowing if the IFV's would recover in time to bring their weapons to bear on the real threat.

Infiltration team

When the man dropped to the floor, a clear sign of a sniper, the soldiers knew what they had to do. The best counter to any sniper was another sniper, and one of the selected troopers was known for being a marksman.

Walsh had him set up in a shadowy corner and creep toward the window, and was about to volunteer to show himself and draw the enemy sniper out, when another of his men forced him down and took the job as bait...

South Attack

With the Promised Land reinforcements moving forward to reinforce them, the rebels cheered and charged the government positions using sheer weight of fire to keep them pinned down. They lost a fair number of rebels in the charge but the government forces also suffered heavily and were forced to retreat allowing the surviving rebels to move up and gain the left behind weapons and ammo.

Eastern Attack

The Promised Land snipers were able to kill some of the government machine gunners before they were then under attack themselves from government military snipers, these snipers were also used to keep the rebels surpressed whilst killing a few of them at the same time. The rebels tried to spray the area with weapons fire but it was generally ineffective.

West Attack

Three loud explosions signaled the death of the government IFV's and the rebels shouted in glee at seeing such hard targets destroyed, using the confusion and shock created by their destruction the rebel soldiers pushed forwards over running government soldiers who were shot regardless of whether or not they surrendered it was brutal but they didn't have time for prisoners. It wasn't until the walls of the government building came into view that they were met with increased fire which included some anti-tank missiles that the assault was slowed.

The Infiltration

Luckily for the bait the government sniper missed and the Promised Land sniper got him with his first shot giving the rest of the team a clear path. Valerie nodded her thanks to the sniper before leaping forward with her surviving men, the back street they were following would bring them alongside their target and once they had blasted through to it they should be able to strom the building in mere minutes.

Overall, casualties among the soldiers were about 100, 35 of them killed outright and a full half too wounded to continue fighting. The majority came from the charge in the South, and the bulk of the remaining from the open attack to the West.

Southern Attack

The soldiers cheered, charging along with the rebels. This victory, even though it was stuill only supposed to be a diversion, was good for morale, and the looting for weapons was encouraged. Every bullet, every weapon, that they could recover, was potentially another government soldier that would not be shooting back at them.

Eastern attack

Two of the casualties here were among the snipers. In a deadly game where it was kill or be killed, they were both dead, insantly, from shots to the head. The remaining ones could not give much support to the rebels and their own troops, but any time an enemy sniper popped their head up for a shot, they were targetted, to minimize casualties below.

The grunts on the ground largely focused on the machine-gun emplacements. grenades were the weapon of choice here, being tossed up and over any defensive structure to land in the midst of the gunners.

Western Attack

The anti-tank missiles should have been expected, but they actually came as a surprise, and one got a lucky hit on one of the tanks, not completely destroying it, but crippling it and forcing the crew to abandon it in the midst of heavy fire (though not without one parting shot in the direction that one of the missiles had been launched from), being covered by the remaining tank which tried to eliminate the positions which had crippled its partner.

The soldiers, caught up in tha battle as much as the rebels, hardly abtted an eye when troops trying to surrender were killed anyway. They were as much caught up in the battle-lust as their allies. Especially when one of the anti-tank missiles exploded in the middle of a squad, decimating its ranks. this only increased their fury.

Infiltration Team

The sniper nodded, but hung back. He might be needed later, in case another snper made itself known. But they were lucky. They managed to make it to the building without encountering any more government forces.

Quietly, ione of the troopers withdrew C4 from his pack, looking at Valerie for confirmation. "Well, do we knock? Or is there an entrance we can use to get in more quietly?"

Southern Attack

The brief respite that the rebels and soldiers had gained was interrupted by a massive wave of weapons fire that punched a fair number of rebels off their feet and leaving their bleeding bodies on the road. It seemed that the government had sent out its reserves to combat the successful southern attack and the rebels were now paying for their slight victory in gallons of blood.

Eastern Attack

The grenades worked perfectly and one after another the machine gun nests were silenced though the government troops had used the time well and had retreated to another set of barricades and now had the last remaining IFV providing heavy cover fire with its mounted cannon. The rebels could only hide and return what pitiful fire they could without being shot to death.

Western Attack

The majority of the missile teams had been wiped out by the return fire but they had a special set of launchers prepared for just this occasion. They had hoped to not to have to use them but desperate times meant they had to and a group of soldiers tracked the last tank from Promised Land and fired the four Javelin missile launchers. It was doubtful it would survive but if it got under some sort of heavy cover it might just make it.

The Inflitration

"No we don't have time just set it here and blow our way in. Once we make it into the grounds get inside the buidling and spread out, make sure every room is searched and neutralise any hostiles you find. If you can capture any government officials but don't spare them if they prove hostile" replied Valerie as she took her weapon in her hands and waited for the entrance to be created.

Overall casualty report--65 KIA, 150 wounded to the point of incapacitation. Most casualties from the Southern and Eastern attacks.

Southern Attack

The soldiers, too were caught in the deadly storm of renewed fire, and a good number of the advancing troops were cut down. The government had also played smart, but now that they had committed their reserves, the diversionary attack could finally be deemed a success.

Not that it felt like a victory to those now pinned behind cover, often forced to hide in the very cover they had taken in their charge on the government forces. Once again, it was at a stalemate, and even the occasional sniper shot couldn't break it.

Eastern Attack

The remaining IFV was a pain in the rear, Captain Wall decided. They had to do something about it.

His own troops cowered in the cover they could find, returning fire whenever they could, though all too often becoming a casualty themselves in the process. The cannon on the IFV made even that option a risky proposition, and it accounted for at least two dozen casualties that he could see.

Shaking his head, the Captain ducked from covered spot to covered spot, inching as close as he dared to the vehicle. All the while, he fiddled with the C4 he had in his own pack. Finally, when he was as close as he could get, behind a building in an alley, he withdrew a grenade, stuck it firmly in the C4, and pulled the pin. He boldly stepped out of cover and threw the C4 at the vehicle, which was foolishly sitting still at the moment. The very next moment a government bullet slammed into his chest, and he toppled backward, though with a smile on his lips. At least he had done what he could.

Western Attack

The tank desperately tried to evade by backing down an alley, not caring if they took a little of the building with them, but one of the missiles slammed down directly on the front treads. By some miracle the tank did not explode, but the concussion killed the gunner instantly, and the driver was so badly wounded he could not move.

Instantly, the areas where the missiles had originated from were almost smothered in a hail of bullets from angry troops.

Infiltration team

The soldier nodded, as did the lieteneant and his men, then the explosives man motioned everyone to stand back as he placed the explosives. Barely a minute later, he nodded, placed a timer on one of the lumps, and hastily beat a retreat, indicating the others should find cover as he was doing.

Five seconds after he ducked behind a dumpster, the explosives performed their task, blowing a hole wide enough for four men to pass through. The dust and debris blocked their view in, but it would also serve as a smokescreen for their entrance. And the troops made good use of it, swarming through the hole and quickly dispatching what few stunned guards were nearby. They began to spread out inside the building as they had been instructed...

OOC: Subtle PM me if you would would like to continue the battle outside or if you would like to just stay with inflitration team.

IC: Inside the buidling the rebels split off into two man teams and spread out into different sections of the building and it wasn't long before the sound of gunfire echoed throughout the halls. Valerie had four rebels with her as she intended to assault the main chamber where Natarle should be heading the country, checking that her safety was off she nodded to the pointman and he started off up the main stairway the other rebels and Valerie following.

The troops smiled. The rebels may have been a rag-tag force, but they did show some discipline. The troops also split into two-man teams. Walsh intended to help Valerie herself storm the main chamber.

The troops at first encountered only minimal guards, and one politician who immediately threw his hands up in the air in a clear sign of surrender. A quick frisking proved he was unarmed.
