The Great Exodus

OOC: This is the exile thread to take my country over to Sil's, it is open to posts, but please very little OOC.

It would be the longest plane ride that she could ever have thought to be on and what's more, it was barely an hour flight. After the nuclear attack, the second nuclear attack was over it was now Sarah's duty to reorganize her people who had no doubt begun to flee to the far corners of the earth. She was heading to Turku at the moment, dressed in old Prussian clothes that the Kaiser had given to her and looking a little better after taking a shower for the first time in two weeks she couldn't help but stare at the radiation suit, hanging in the closet across from her. It looked alien, strange, something that she could never see herself wearing, but now it was required.

"Milady." A knock was heard and an aide walked through. "The jet will be touching down in Turku soon, you might want to get ready." He said looking at the suit before incurring the horrid glare of the Prime Minister. The aide nodded quickly and retreated from the room. Sarah sighed as she got up from her seat and took the suit of the hanger, not only did it look strange, it felt strange as well.

"I can't do this." She said shaking her head as the jet finally touched down in a landing strip prepared in Turku.

Walking out, the land seemed strange, barren, though Turku had been unharmed by the blast, the fallout would reach Finland, all the fallout and there had been more bombs dropped than the one in Helsinki. It was time to begin leaving. When she stepped out of the plane, a motorcade had been offered to take her into the city, but before Sarah could reach the motorcade she began to see the first signs of what was happening to her country. There besides a hanger was a family of three cradling their child, the husband wore a torn military uniform and the woman cried softly, Sarah would later learn they had lost their two elder sons in Helsinki along with the family's grandparents. Walking up to the family she took of the radiation suit in rage and threw it at one of the soldiers around her.

"But Lady Sarah?"

"Get it out of my sight!" She screamed as she turned back to the family. "Listen to me." She knelt down and grabbed the man's hand. "We can still survive this as long as we are still alive, each one of us can build a new and better future."

The man turned his head, but the woman met the Prime Minister's eyes. "How milady? How can we survive? We didn't want this war."

"Its not about the war anymore." She swallowed hard. "The world is blowing itself to oblivion and no one is doing anything about it, Helsinki would have become inhabitable for your children in the long run." Sarah sat down beside the family. "We have been given land in Australia to build a new home. We are not refugees, we need a home to raise our children in and though it is not Finland, the Hansa has survived before and we will continue to survive."

"You're taking us there Lady Tintagyl?" Said the man finally.

"Yes, New Cymru has offered us planes and transports to reach our new homeland and I'm sure the rest of the world will join in. We are a revered nation, an honorable nation and you are all honorable people. It would be a sin for me to abandon you in this dark hour for anything else." Sarah bowed her head. "I am your eternal servant."

The father rose and laid a strong hand on her shoulder. "And we are yours Milady." His wife stood up with the child and Sarah rose after. Slowly they began to walk, four of them, and the four turned to ten, and the ten to thirty, and the thirty to a hundred as a throng of people walked into Turku to begin bringing their people back.

Thus was the beginning of the Great Exodus and Sarah's destiny as a leader had been finally revealed to her...

The Estovakia Imperium and the Empress herself offer our apologies to the Helsinki people for not being able to provide any real protection. We wish hem the best of luck in their new lands once they reach them and hope that one day you can all return to that land you call home.

Taeunas will of course help. Our national flag airline has already been directed to send thirty of its largest aircraft to help out. In addition, our military is sending several cargo haulers for use by the Hansa. Already loaded in some are clothes, prefab shelters and modular building components. We place these at the temporary command of what is left of the Hansa military and government.

"Abandon our homeland?" Someone cried out from the crowd. In Turku there was no podium set up, there was no order in the speech, but everyone had joined in the great movement of people that approached the center of the town, being lead by their Prime Minister. Sarah stood up on the base of a statue in the center of Turku and men and women gathered around, some sat on the ground, some stayed in buildings where they wouldn't need to leave to hear the speech.

"You want to stay here in Europe? You madman?" Another man screamed out from the other side as the crowd divided which way and that, some saying they would rather die from radiation than leave what had been their homes for ages, while others had had just about enough of the European world, two nuclear attacks in two years, many of them were done with wanting to live their lives around here. "I don't even need to say to you that want to say, go to Hell, you're already here."

"Awe you can kiss your own as-" The argument was getting ready to break out when a marine lifted his pistol in the air and unloaded five shots into the sky. The crowd turned to the marine and glared, but the marine not to be outdone pointed at the Prime Minister and the crowd sat back to listen to their leader for a moment.

Sarah stood and walked down into the ground. "Ladies and gentlemen, we don't have a choice, things are only going to get worse in Europe, to those who do not want to leave, believe me neither do I. I lost everything in Helsinki save my life. But Europe is going to be a barren wasteland in the future, in the last two years we have seen wars, nuclear attacks, and the division of the continent through bloc warfare. We should be extremely thankful that New Cymru has given us territory to settle. I swear to all of you that we will build the Hansa into a greater state than it already was. We were once known as the center of international diplomacy, an honorable nation and an honorable people."

"And an honorable leader!" A man shouted from the crowd to be followed by a strong applause from the people.

Sarah smiled and bowed her head. "Please ladies and gentlemen, I thank you for your support, but we must begin to relocate. However for those who do not wish to, you will most likely become citizens of the Franzharian government after all this was their ancestral land prior. However, there is no doubt that the world will help us in our exodus and though it will hurt for our people to leave so much behind, we can build a new future across the seas."

"How are we supposed to do that Ladyship?"

"It will be a long process and I don't intend to see everyone pick up all their bags at once, New Cymru will transport Hanseatic citizens free of cost to our new land and I'm sure if we ask politely to the other governments of the world they will also help us transport people and goods."

People began to nod and look at one another in agreement. "How long until we must make a decision Ladyship?"

"For as long as you want, but I must tell you that the Hanseatic government will be relocating to Brisbane extremely soon and we hope to take as many people with us. Flights will be leaving mainly from Turku, however there are also transporters leaving from Porvoo and Vantaa with Taeunasian aid. Mind you, we can only transport so many people at once, but one day our population will be centered as one again and again we will become the envy of the world in reason and logic. Brisbane will become our cultural center and we will continue to survive." The crowd cheered as Sarah continued to walk through the crowd, but looking down at the ring still on her finger, perhaps she had lost more in the destruction of Helsinki than her home. One day they would hold each other again and Brisbane Cathedral would be her new center of hope.

Major Raglan had heard of Sarah Tintagyl's speach in Turku. He had left his post in Franzharia to observe from the crowd. As Sarah began walking through the crowd, he beat his way to the opening forming ahead of her. As she passed his position, he grabbed her arm, quickly and gently, slipping a short note into her hand. Before security had a chance to react, he had melded back into the mass of faces. The note itself would disclose a time and place to meet within the city itself. Gareth would wait there, hoping.

She had been frightened only for a moment when the major had grabbed her arm, but the guards hadn't seen and with the note in her hand she held it tight until she had broken through the crowd. The guards had taken her to a small cafe in Turku to wait until the first of the transports would begin arriving, what was left of the Hanseatic military wanted to get a government set up as soon as possible and Sarah knew that the flight to Brisbane was going to becoming in a few days. Opening the note that Raglan had placed in her hands she nodded her head and got up from her seat.

"Colonel Zerbest, will you excuse me for a moment." She held up the note. "I can protect myself."

The Colonel nodded, he would stand by at a distance to make sure nothing happened to the only leader he had any hope for left, but made sure that Sarah thought she would be alone. "Of course Your Ladyship."

Sarah walked out of the cafe and smiled at the people who passed her on the street, but Major Raglan to an older part of town, away from the din of the crowd. In a small square of the town the major stood against a small fountain, that for the strange warmth of the month was able to pour water.

"I believe you asked to meet me here?" She held the note to the major. "Is there something you'd like to discuss?"

"Yes Ma'am." He snapped a smart salute as Sarah approached him. "Before we begin, I wish to express my deepest condolences for all you and your countymen have lost. We do, however, have some more crucial information to discuss. The region we have set aside for you is some of the best real estate in New Cymru. However, we have our suspicions that a radical and dangerous group of nationalists is operating out of the area. These men are ruthless, and appear to have military training. So far, my country has found no leads to there location, despite arresting two of their men. There is a very real danger of extreme retaliation."

Raglan was nearly out of breath from the explanation. He had not been out for long enough in the cold air of the north, and he was suffering for it.

Sarah frowned and looked at her feet. "It seems that I can never seem to escape bloodshed." She looked back up at the major and tried to create a smile. "Thank you for the information Sir, but my countrymen are still going to travel to the land that your country has set aside for us. If I can only ask one more favor then from your country that has already given me more than a treasure of the world. The Hansa will hold as best as they against these nationalists and if we were given any military aid from New Cymru to help push back the nationalists then we will do the rest. You can only anger people so much, we have no land and no that we have been given land of our own again we will be triumphant."

She sighed, her people had already been through so much and now once again they would be pushed to the breaking point again. But this only strengthened Sarah's resolve. She would not stop until the Hansa was stable again, until they had their own land and their world conflicts were over. "I promise you sir, we will help you end this conflict."

"I must apologise that this information did not reach you more quickly. It still remains a possibility that they will leave the area. A failled attempt on a Dragon Empire representative's life has forced their hand. I simply felt it prudent to warn you of the dangers that you may or may not face." He pulled a large thermos flask from his jacket, and poured the steaming coffee into a mug, then offered it to Sarah. "Do you mind if I have a smoke Ma'am?" He asked as he withdrew a noxious looking cigar, and a gilded lighter.

"Not at all, my father loved smoking a pipe." She said taking the coffee from the major and took a quick swig. "I appreciate that the information has reached my ears nonetheless, now I can at least prepare my people when they arrive that we may have to consolidate the land for the advancement of culture and order as defined by our governments and if they leave the area my people will still assist New Cymru until these terrorists are dealt with."

It was now imperative to set her government up as soon as soon as possible so that the Hansa would not be vulnerable to any terrorist attacks. But now, she had the advantage, in prior times the terrorists had always surprised Hanseatic citizens. Sarah would not allow another disaster to harm her nation and once they were established, it would be her policy to offer a new voice of peace for Australia, the reputation of the Hansa would continue. "Major if I may ask you, would you be so kind as to join my escort to Brisbane, so that we can begin the feeling of friendship between our two peoples early. However if you have other matters, I understand, but nevertheless I hope to meet you again."

"Of course. I would be honoured. My duties as ambassador to Franzharia can wait a few days I am sure, they know how to reach my government in any case." Raglan lit his cigar, and took long draw, before exhaling a pefect ring of smoke. "I sense great things will come from this tragedy. One of the craft has already landed, and has a capacity of 700 people. We can leave as soon as you are ready." Raglan was in no rush, however he felt distinctly uneasy, and would continue feeling so until the evacuation was well underway.

******Message to the PM of Hansa, Classified**********

-From the office of Royal Affairs,

His Majesty Nikolai Romanov wishes to hold a meeting with you. He believes it is urgent.

Romanov,

I would be honored to meet with you before I leave for Brisbane. If you can, meet me tonight at Turku airport.

Romanov's Helo touches down just as the sun starts to set in Turku. All around, he sees people running for transports as Hansa begins to evac.

"Reminds me of what we had to do...twice." He comments, taking a swig of his dutch courage.

He and his personal guard sit and wait for the PM.

A military jeep rode onto the airport complex just as night was beginning to fall on the city and the lights were beginning to turn on, conditioning the entire area to reflect a truly horrific situation. Sarah, Major Raglan, and a contingent of Hanseatic officers jumped out of the jeep as they were lead towards the transport that would take them to Brisbane. As she exited the jeep she spied Romanov and his personal guard waiting a few yards away. She ran over to him and bowed, her hair blowing from the massive wind tunnel being created from the aircraft.

"Your Majesty." Sarah smiled and could not help but chuckle at the title of her friend. "Romanov, how have you been? I feel horrible that these are the conditions on which we must meet, such is the cruelty of the world." She looked into his eyes. "What is it that you wanted to talk to me about?"

Romanov pulls out his pistol and points it at the PMs head.

"Give me one good reason I shouldnt kill you for the pain youve caused my people. All the lives that Molakia will loose, has lost. All because you thought you could save the world. You now run from your lands. Take your punishment."

Romanov's guards are shocked to see their leader draw a weapon, and start to fidget.

(OOC- Dont worry. I wont shoot. I just needed a good way to show how he feels. Id appreciate it if you didnt shoot him thou.)

Sarah's jaw dropped as she looked at the pistol aimed at her head, all around her the Hanseatic marines and Major Raglan reached for their holsters. She was shaking and her heart was beating faster than it had even beaten in her life, Romanov held her life in his hands and in honesty there was nothing she could. Breathing deeply, Sarah raised her hands and signaled to her officers to place their weapons away.

"I have a duty to my people, cowardly it may be, but I will not have them suffer in this !@#$hole that Europe has become. I am not blaming anyone but myself and other leaders who involved themselves in this war Romanov. But I had a duty to honor my treaty with Gebiv, I am sure you more than anyone understands the duty of honoring your friends and not me, not my government, not my people would let this country be known as one that couldn't honor our promises. Honestly Romanov what am I leader of, not even ten million people anymore and we barely have the shirts on our backs, but at least we have our pride, our honor and our will to go one." Her eyes flashed of anger. "And if you think I haven't lost things in this war then you're damn wrong. I should be married already Romanov, but that may never happen. My people have lost their homes and many their lives so I'm doing what's best for them. Sadistic maybe, but if they didn't want me anymore then I'd be doing this myself."

Sarah walked into the gun and let the metal rest against her cheek. "If you think that by killing me will solve all this, kill me, I've lost enough in my life." Inside she was sweating.

OOC: Promise you won't do it. :)

"All this horror around you, and all you seem to think you lost is a Marriage?" Romanov yells, Alcohol reeking his breath and the gun being pressed harder.

"I have lost the chance to bring honor to this region. We should have ALL stayed out of the war, and in the remnants gathered peace. Your foolish pride blinded you to truth. You are right, I do honor my friends. But I also remember i have a duty to MY PEOPLE FIRST! The blood of Helsinki AND Molakia stains your hands, as the blood of Chechnya stains my own."

Romanov turns off the safety on his weapon.

Sarah grimaced at the clicking of the safety and the cool steel against her skin. "You once told me that leaders make sacrifices, leaders have blood on their hands, do you not thing that I don't feel the pain seeing by whole homeland obliterated in a great flash? If I would have known that the f*cking Germans would have used nuclear weapons in the war I would have never fought, if I would have known that nuclear weapons would have been used at first I would have never fought, but I seriously misjudged the world and you're right I should pay. But I'm paying for as leading a exodus to a foreign land, one that I have never visited and I pray that I have the strength to return to this land one day. But maybe that's in Romanov." Sarah faced him, barely coming to his neck. "Maybe I'm no better than the dictators of the past, I wonder if the name Tintagyl will go down as filthy and sadistic as the name Martens because that seems to be what you're leading at. Tell me. Right now. Are you staring at a face of evil?"

Her soldiers kept their hands on their pistols.

"I stare at the face of a naive child, who does not know what she has done. With age you will learn. And you will pay much more dearly in the future."

Romanov backs off.

"Your nation has taken the life of my old friend, my only confidant: Anna Ivanova. After we landed in Molakia after trying to head to prussia, she went off to your nation to help. A electrical storm caused by the weapon going off crashed her transport somewhere in your nation. If she is dead...by the grace of whatever you believe in I will have vengeance. But its time i let you suffer."

Romanov holsters his weapon and starts to walk back.

Sarah stepped back a few inches as she let out a silent sigh of relief. She watched as the Tsar walked away being followed by his contingent of troops. For a moment Sarah wanted to shout something after him, but she couldn't make out the words, she didn't know what to say anymore. She was sick, she was tired and it felt like the world hated her, she wished she had never honored that treaty she wished she had watched Europe burn from the safety of Diet Hall, but she hadn't. She had done the honorable thing and she would pay for it the rest of her life, at the moment it felt like she might never be able to find happiness ever again and that reigned heavy down on her.

"Milady, are you okay?" Raglan was shocked beyond words. He had been so close to tearing the gun from Romanov's hand.

"Yeah, I'll be fine. I just need some time alone." She said quietly as she walked towards the aircraft, the defeated leader, leading her defeated people. On the plane she sat in the back, she was really only a naive girl of twenty-seven. And as the jet took off towards Brisbane, she cried, but she would be back. And these became a transformation of sorts for the young girl, Sarah had changed much already, but she was only to continue to change as the plane entered the sky and passed across foreign skies to Brisbane.
