Scenario:

USNA Forces have been caught completely unaware of the massive invasion force that has appeared off of the nation's coasts. Immense failures in satellite and ground intelligence have left the military unprepared and relatively understrength in the Northern Theater of Operations. The Saborian invasion fleet has appeared off the coast and due to peace terms the USNA Navy is in no way shape or form to repel the enemy before they land. That now rests in the hands of the gunners manning the coastal defenses and the Air Force. If they make it onto land only a small portion of USNA military might can be brought to bear due to the surprise and several other factors.

Admiral Jacob Jenkins was pacing the bridge of the cruiser USNS Baltimore. He was assured he wasn't expected to stop the invasion fleet and that his career would not be affected by the outcome. Guess I got a break there he thought to himself. Satellite images had reported the Saborian Fleet about 600 miles away heading straight for him. If he had some submarines and possibly an aircraft carrier he knew could set up an ambush for them in the narrow gulf but he only had two frigates, two destroyers and one cruiser. Life wasn't always fair. "Tell the fleet to go to general quarters Captain." "Aye sir." Soon all of the ships intercoms were blaring sirens and repeatedly saying "All hands general quarters, man your battle stations" The Air Force was getting a couple of fighter squadrons up and a E-3 AWACS was on the way soon.

Four full carrier battle groups were heading towards their destination from the east. Their air-squadrons were ready to take off whenever needed, though the USNA planes hadn't taken off yet according to intel.

Behind the carriers were transports containing the 'invasion force', far enough away so that any planes or submarines would get detected and intercepted before they reached the transports. The battleships readied their railguns to fire beyond the horizon, though they were still too far for any kind of hit.

Satellite images confirmed enemy strength to be at 4 Carrier Battle Groups. Normally a couple squadron of B-1s of Naval Aviation would be dispatched but those wouldn't be available till tomorrow when the peace terms expired. Two squadrons of A-6s and another two squadrons of F-22s were being prepped on the ground ready to fly in ten minutes.

High above the country, in an orbit around the planet, spy-satellites were watching the USNA's troop movements closely, capable of following a single soldier on his route, though of course usually, only bigger formations would be tracked.

Thus, the growing air-support was not un-noticed, and the carriers prepared to launch the first air-superiority fighters. At a later time, when the navy had been taken care of, the CAS-planes and battleships would take care of coastal defenses which would in turn let the troops on the transports get off the ships and establish a beachhead for supply-ships and further bombardment-positions for the battleships.

The first SF-2 Morgan planes took off.

IC: As it was still night, a few hours before dawn, the Saborian forces mostly used NV to find their way. However, as all vessels and soldiers had not only night-vision but also thermal vision and other vision-modi as per standard military regulations, these other modi were used, too. But, not all of the hydrofoils were found - and subsequently destroyed - perhaps due to excellent hiding or just an oversight of those responsible for finding enemies. Four of the hydrofoils were found and taken care of, though the last two had already been passed.

Still, no sane fleet-commander would let transports travel alone. Two destroyers and two corvettes were escorting the transports, on high alert after the other hydrofoils had been discovered by the main-fleet.

Two squadron of SF2-Morgan fighters were patrolling the general area where the fleets were, to intercept hostile fighters and bombers when needed.

OOC: Just saying, they're pretty much out of the line of sight of any ships and would only be able to be seen from above. Since they're generally inactive at the moment the only thermal readings that would be given off are by personnel and there are small isolated villages and settlements in the area. I'll go along with it anyway.

As the missles were detected on the radar and other sensors, anti-missle defenses on all ships were automatically activated, AA-lasers on the bigger ships powering up while gatling guns were used on the smallest ships. Especially the lasers, powered by the nuclear reactors (though certain other equipment had to be powered down while the lasers fired), were quite useful against the missles, heating them quickly until the point of detonation. Still, it was not sure that all missles would be taken down.

At the same time, sophisticated computers determined from where the missles were fired, sending the information to the Morgans and missle-based AA weapons. A total of 62 missles were fired by the SF2-Morgans, two missles per plane (with 16 planes/squadron). After this, the planes headed away from the missles, prepared to activate flares and other equipment to evade the missles.

Meanwhile, the ships continued on their path, while two submarines were sent ahead to scout for enemy ships.

OOC: You know I'm firing at your fighters and not your ships right?

IC:

The F-22s threat detectors went off and they quickly scattered. Several EA-6 Electronic Warfare Aircraft attached to the group turned on their powerful jamming equipment. This combined with the aircraft's own countermeasures and drastic maneuvers lowered the losses. 13 Raptors had been lost to enemy missiles. Now they formed up again and fired another volley while the downed aircraft headed back to base for debriefing. Soon after the coordinated attack was commenced. Two Squadrons of B-1 Naval Aviation aircraft were streaking in from the North West and South East with heavy jamming support. Another group of jammer aircraft were coming in from the North, East and South to provide decoys. Each B-1 was laden with 10 ASM-2 Anti-Ship Missiles. Another squadron of Raptors came in with the East group firing off their weapons towards the enemy aircraft. The B-1s had the transports as the main target. A total of 480 Anti-Ship and another 192 anti-aircraft missiles were heading for their respective targets. Trying to take advantage of the confusion the Defense Flotillas received orders to attack. Coming in from the East they fired off all of their anti-ship missiles as well adding another 64 missiles to the attack.

IC: In response to the massive missle-attack, all available ships equipped with them activated their jamming equipment and CIWS to minimize losses. Any radar-guided missles would thus likely fail to hit their targets, in addition to being shot down.

As the anti-fighter missles closed in, the fighters began a rapid dive, only pulling up when they hit roughly 400 meters above the ground. Most gained enough speed to safely deploy anti-missle equipment and get rid of the 'followers'. They would do this every time anti-fighter missles were deployed by the USNA, rapidly lowering their losses in comparison to just deploying AM-equipment.

The ships fired heat-seeking missles at the enemy planes, which would make sure that the jammer-planes could do nothing to stop them.

They were not dummies, like the previous missles, and sixty of them roared into the USNA's direction.

In the entire fleet, live ammunition was prepared to be used shortly, and the transports began approaching the USNA's mainland, regardless of the current position. Carriers, Battleships and the other vessels prepared to annihilate any opposition.

The F-22 pilots heard their threat receivers beeping and pulled into hard evasive maneuvers and spewing out countermeasures. They were more than surprised when twelve fighters exploded from real missiles. A further 6 were damaged when a total recall order was given. All aircraft and ships were ordered to return to bases immediately. Initial army units sent to move into the former Arctic Confederacy border encountered the massive Saborian invasion force and reported it. Within minutes worldwide USNA forces were immediately upgraded to DEFCON 2. The mobilization of National Guard and Civil Defense Units was begun. The newly refurbished navy was also ordered to form up and prepare for combat. Absent of it's carriers and nuclear powered submarines it was still a formidable force of Battleships, Cruisers and Destroyers as well as two prototype diesel submarines that had just been built. Several F-22 squadrons had taken up a CAP with AWACS and ground fighter direction support.

The new USNA/Saboria border was of course lightly defended. The main forces on the border were garrisons recruited from the local population. Two armored and three Infantry Divisions had been ordered in to stabilize the area but were ordered to form up for Plan Black. Here the local population would be very important and they were rather eager to help. Guides were assigned from former Arctic Confederacy military personnel. The divisions rushed to their designated areas of operations. There each division spread itself out. They would fight a loose mobile battle, bleeding the enemy while denying them a decisive battle. In the larger towns and cities large armament programs were started. Weapons secured from the Arctic Confederacy military installations were being issued to newly reformed military and civil defense units. At the pre-division border the eastern border defenses were to stay in place until a new one was created on the new border, which wouldn't be completed now, and would still have been maintained as a safeguard. Now they were to be the main line of defense for the nation or at the very least inflict heavy casualties and buy time for the mobilization of more forces.

OOC: You do know that militias are forbidden, unless the total forces are below the total maximum soldiers you can have ingame, right?

Almost all non-carrier vessels of Saboria had rail weaponry instead of conventional naval guns. The battleships reached the furthest at almost 500 kilometers, while smaller ships reached "only" 300 to 400 kilometers. This still was more than enough to hold any kind of navy away, additionally to the nuclear-powered subs that were slightly ahead of the rest of the fleet, passively looking for enemy subs and ships, torpedos at the ready.

Any enemy fleets would be detected by sophisticated satellites, their coordinates relayed to the Saborian fleet and bombardement over hundreds of kilometers would be done.

The landing forces got off the transports, first two infantry-divisions, then several of the tank divisions, some of the supply-vehicles being S-400 SAM vehicles. These AA-platforms would make it incredibly hard for the F-22s to come close enough to deploy their payload, as the Saborian vehicles had a radar range of roughly 600 kilometers and the missles themselves only a marginally lower range.

The forces in the east advanced, satellite-recon and thermal-vision equipment making it very hard for them to sneak up on Saborian troop-formations. The Saborians here used a quite simple tactic: Advance, use superior numbers to the fullest and deploy heavy anti-infantry weaponry.

At the same time, two divisions moved to flank and surround whatever enemy forces they could surround. From the landing point, two additional infantry-divisions and a tank division would move east to attack the defense lines from behind, taking them for Saboria and enabling them to eventually surround the entire line.

OOC: Ah, gotcha. Scratch some of that stuff then. Oh, and where exactly are you landing? Cause if it is already in my nation I wouldn't have let you get that far without being attacked yet.

The Saborians had made a rather large mistake trying to invade through the confined area that was the Queen Maud Gulf. There would be no room for large scale naval maneuvers here. The main fleet was cautiously advancing to get into range. The ship board anti-ship missiles had a range of approximately 350 miles. It would be cutting it close engaging the enemy fleet especially since railguns don't really have an effective counter measure. Nonetheless this would be a coordinated strike. Because of the rather narrow approaches several dozen ASWH-1 anti-submarine helicopters and PC-4 anti-submarine warfare aircraft were constantly patrolling the area. One submarine was confirmed destroyed and there they had probables on two others. The fleet had formed up together. This was going to be a slug fest to be quite simple. There was no room for deceptive maneuvering and both fleets could only come from one direction. Four B-1 Naval Aviation Squadrons were going to conduct a strike against the enemy fleet. All four squadrons would attack from different directions and all would have fighter and jammer support. In addition to that for the first time a major UAV operation was to be conducted as well. Each UAV could only carry two missiles but had the advantage of being much less detectable. They would also attack at the same time with some of them modified with jamming equipment. The squadrons attacked from the Northwest, Southwest, North and Southeast. A total force of 96 B-1s and 36 UAVs. All in all a total of 1032 anti-ship missiles would launched against the enemy fleet. While the same missiles these used a combination radar/satellite/ heat seeking guidance system but for all the enemy knew they were just normal radar guided missiles. The strike was twenty minutes out to be coordinated with the naval assault.

In the east things were sort of going according to plan. Losses were very light due to the fact that few set piece battles occurred. The main occurrence was an anti-tank team or tank hiding and firing one or two shots from long range before scurrying away to another set up concealed position and denying the enemy a target. Not the most epic of battles but it would do the job of chipping away at the enemy. Around the south an armored armored and an infantry division were ordered to spearhead a local counterattack. They succeeded in blasting a three mile hole in enemy lines. Two armored cavalry regiments were rushed through to harass the enemy's rear. Special forces teams had also been inserted to harass the enemy's supply lines throughout the line.

At home things weren't looking extremely grim. Several more divisions had been mobilized and morale was high, boosted by anger and resentment against the invaders, especially communists.

OOC: Another fun fact: Lavo told me that the missles you're firing couldn't possibly have 2 or more guidance-systems integrated, as they're not CMs or SLBMs. Decide on which type of guidance they use, please.

I'm also landing east-northeast of New Cincinnati.

And to make things in the air equal, we both now have either 24-plane squadrons or 16-plane squadrons. Choose either, and I'll use the same numbers.

For this post, I'll use what you use.

In response to the hail of missles, all missle-counter systems would be engaged, ranging from normal Gatling- and laser-based weaponry over the Aegis combat system to literally metric tons of smoke-screen, chaffs and flares to mislead the missles in any possible way. Even the railguns of the ships would fire at the missle-swarms in the hopes of hitting some - which likely would happen, seeing the number of missles.

Additionally, the entire goddamned airforce of Saboria was ordered to take off and achieve Air-superiority with whatever means necessary. Saborian planes had superior technology and weapons, which would be the deceisive factor, unless the planes engaged in dog-fights. 80 full squadrons - 1920 craft - took off from carriers and airfields to take the USNA's airforce out with missles, cannons and skills.

Even more, 20 squadrons - 480 craft - of B-52 bombers, the workhorses of the Saborian airforce, took off, on the way to obliterate the USNA's airfields, making them useless and grounding the enemy airforce.

The last 5 squadrons - 120 planes - were CAS airplanes, designed to bomb any ground-forces in the way of the Saborian advance.

Unfortunately for the anti-sub helicopters, the submarines were far less than 50 kilometers ahead of the fleet, easily within range of AA-missles or fighters, which meant the Anti-sub choppers could easily be shot down.

On the ground, the Saborian forces dispersed into smaller groups, though to a minimum of 1,000 men to sweep wider areas more easily, enabling them to destroy hostile forces more easily. Any forces bigger than 500 men would have to face CAS-assaults and artillery-bombardements - and in such small numbers, they would be eventually be destroyed by the advancing Saborians, either during the firefights themselves or during pursuits.

The smaller groups also would enable the Saborians to more quickly react to any assaults on supply-convoys, which, due to being in still potentially hostile territory, were always escorted.

In the homeland, production to replace lost planes or tanks begun.

OOC: Sorry for the intermittent internet access. I had lots of stuff to do and by the looks of it I'm going to get busier still. I don't really see why they can't be integrated, they are anti-ship cruise missiles (I assumed all anti-ship missiles were cruise missiles anyway cause I doubt anything smaller will do enough damage) and I'll stick with the 24 plane squadrons then as it seems you've also sort of used it. I meant to reduce it to 12 after the last war I had but never really got around to it. In regards to your equipment you're only about 8 years ahead of me so your forces aren't really god like compared to mine. I think it was agreed before that just because you have more tech and custom planes that doesn't automatically make them much better then everything else. To be honest comparing your SF-2's stats with an F-22 it seems that they are either mostly the same or the F-22 has a very slight advantage in some categories but as I'm not an aeronautics engineer I wouldn't really be able to know how the plane handles. Also, you ought to RP your losses to the attack on your fleet.

NATIONAL MILITARY COMMAND CENTER

General Carville had been at his post since the start of the Saborian invasion. The National Military Command Center was one of several major underground command centers to coordinate the defense of the nation. Carville was a Army officer, with him there was General Jerry Boyd (Air Force), Admiral Lissette Hanley (Navy), and General Warren Fuller (Air Force). An Air Force lieutenant called General Boyd over to his station. "General Boyd, air and ground radar surveillance reports a massive air offensive inbound." "Where are they headed?" "In most probability our airfields. This is a really big raid with heavy fighter escorts, you don't put up something like this to take out a couple of tanks." "Noted lietenant. Thanks." Boyd walks over to Carville and informs him of the developments. "So Jerry, what do we have to stop them?" Our airbases are protected by heavy anti-aircraft emplacements. They'll be able to hit the !@#$%^&* at 270 miles but I'd prefer it if they don't get that close. I'll get everything up that I can." "Do it."

Within three minutes Boyd's orders had made it to the various airbase and fighter wing commanders. Destroy the enemy and prevent damage to the airfields at all costs. Around the airfields the various SAAM-3s batteries were ordered to prepare and linked up with ground and air based radar systems. Dozens of medium range rapid fire anti-aircraft guns were also put on alert but hopefully they wouldn't be needed. 50 Squadrons were alerted and ready to intercept. While out numbered this was their home turf. Plus the B-52s wouldn't really stand a chance if they got to them. They were vectored in by E-3 AWACS and ground based radar/fighter direction stations. Three squadrons had formed up to counter the first wave. Each F-22 fired 4 missiles 150 miles from their targets.

In the east the two Armored Cavalry Brigades had sustained moderate (20% losses). After the initial breakthrough they broke up into company sized units and went along obliterating rear area military facilities and supply convoys while avoiding heavy units and prolonged combat.

At one medium sized town two battalions were ordered to make a stand. Colonel Parker was placed in overall command of both the mechanized and armored battalion. The troops had been ordered to dig in two days before the arrival of the enemy. They had managed to create four different defense lines in that time. Concealed tank holes had been made to make the MBT-1s and IFV-1s last longer in the fight. Several SPAAG-1s were dispersed throughout the area to deal with air threats. Concealed in the trees about four miles in front of the line was an infantry platoon designated to be the forward listening observation team. They spotted the enemy at three miles away. The team prepared to withdraw and the two sniper teams assigned to the platoon for the mission fired at the advancing infantry. Six kills aimed at those that seemed most like officers before they hopped into the IFV-1s and sped off towards friendly lines. From a church tower another sniper team watched the enemy rush the position with tanks and armored vehicles. A booby trap had been laid by the team as they left. Several Saborian infantrymen were killed when they tripped a series of claymores strung around the area as they moved to inspect the position. Now the main force would make a stand. Misileers popped off the scopes on the targeting systems of their weapons. They kept in mind to change their positions after every shot. The infantry just waited for the enemy in their crude fortifications, just a step above foxholes but still better than nothing. They could hear the rumbling of tank engines just over the crest of the hill in front of them. Colonel Parker was in his own MBT-1 as well. Taking the place of a tank commander the gunner, a senior sergeant, basically ran the tank allowing him to concentrate on his command. Command MBT-1s were more crammed than normal versions due to the fact that the command and communications equipment had been built into the tank so that the officers couldn't be discerned from a normal tank. They all waited. The tank gunners thumbs rested on the fire buttons on their control yokes. A tank soon came into view, then another and another. The gunners waited for the enemy to get within 5 kilometers. Then they fired. The battle was on.

Concealed even from behind it was obvious where the general fortification was but extremely hard to see anything specific. "Do it Captain". In the distance it looked like the entire line fountained up in a series of explosions. In addition to large amounts of explosive charges ammunition and various other explosive ordnance was cast about to add to the destruction. Nothing would be left to reveal the fortification schematics or any sensitive equipment in it. The job was done and the border fortification troops got into their vehicles and moved off to help with the evacuations.

All across the country Executive Order 98 was carried out. When Air Force bases had been evacuated and planes on the way to Alaska they were leveled. The runways were ripped up with large amounts of explosives. Hangers, barracks and equipment storage facilities were demolished. Nothing usable would be left. This was the same story for every Army and Naval installation. When everything usable had been transported away they were demolished. At the various research and development sites throughout the nation models and experiments were loaded onto covered flatbed trucks with heavy military escorts. Adequate facilities for military forces were ready in Alaska.

Civilians structures were no exception either. The National Archives had it's huge amounts of papers, files and large hard drive storage systems loaded onto trucks with military escorts. In the cities when several blocks were evacuated they were leveled. This cycle would continue until there was nothing left for the invaders. The final act of defiance in this treacherous war.

The Saborian forces too were ordered to not fire anymore upon the USNA's forces.

The USNA was allowed to leave, some truck-convoys even helping them, while part of Saboria's army went towards the new border to fortify it. Everything had gone just as planned by the Chairman.

That USNA demolished every bit of infrastructure was not of interest, merely the land- and resource-gain was important. Soon, new, more modern infrastructure would be constructed, just like in the lands of the former Arctic Confederacy. Demolished buildings would be salvaged for usable material, the rest recycled as well as possible.

With this, a victory was achieved, and another chapter in Canada's history was finished.
