Uberstein
Public Shelter Project Announced The Baltic Union has announced its intent to build a series of public shelters in major cities, similar to the shelters developed by nations such as South Korea, and China. The goal is to allow the majority of urban-located citizens in the Baltic Union to survive for up to two weeks underground against indirect nuclear effects. To keep costs reasonable, the government has stated that these bases are in no way intended to survive direct nuclear strike; this is not seen as an issue as a situation in which an enemy government targets specific civilian shelters with nuclear weapons is not seen as plausible. Existing subway networks are also expected to be renovated to have some degree of shelter capability. Riga & Vilnius Metro Announced With a steadily rising population, the revival of the Riga Metro project and Vilnius Metro project has been announced. Construction is to begin shortly, given that plans already exist. Edited July 1, 2014 by Uberstein
