1. With the artillery firing at Autzen Stadium, the Ouragonians fired back. The Stadium, which was heavily disliked by the majority of the population, went down in flames and glorious explosions. The sky was filled with white from the light of the fires and blasts, and white streaks that significed the counter-attacks by low-flying Ouragonian aircraft and artillery. Groups that had slightly been moved off to counter would move in after the artilley and bombing runs to clean up, thus ensuring that a critical strike would be made at the majority of all artillery of the Eugene-Springfield area. Soon after Operation White Night was over, an announcement was made that the Ouragonians wished for a temporary cease-fire. They said that with leadership dead they wanted to talk, and to send representatives to a location equidistant from both sides. Ouragon would send the very leadership that Cascadia thought were dead.

 3. "No, that's not acceptable -- no, I said, NO!" "Zo, just let him go, just let him go!, just let up already, damn you!" It wouldn't matter how much he pleaded to Zora Lilic to drop what was on her mind, she would not. The fiery Serbian, so used to being told nothing or little to nothing, was not about to have some drunk Russian $%&@ tell her that she would have to accept his middle finger as a statement. Her somewhat stiff or formal speech was her way of controlling her often criticized temper - her bosses were constantly reprimanding her about getting into unprofessional verbal altercations with others. Zora is one of a dozen women who work for Reporters Sans Frontières as a "femme blanche", or "white woman", their internal code for a woman who go into various countries to provide illicit support for those in serious trouble. 90% of her time is spent as a regular investigative journalist and lawyer who worked for RSF, and that is her public identity and way of getting into countries such as Russia. But the other 10% involves her job femme blanche, and her current assignment in Chelyabinsk was part of that 10%. While she was in the country under the guise of checking on the embattled cyber-journalist with the unoriginal pseudonym "Anne Onimous", Zora was (while giving legal advice and money to Anne) in fact investigating the suspicious deaths of several Russian journalists. Her freshest lead led her to a policeman sur-named Balakirev, and he was proving most mute. "Look, govedo, I don't care if your boss is descendent from Stalin himself, you're going to answer my questions! Fkguarrr!" She let out an exasperated cry of frustration and pounded her fist on her partner's shoulder. Jack, who was essentially an overpaid babysitter, grabbed her by both her shoulders and stopped her from assaulting Balakirev. "I know you're upset -- no, no, I know you're upset, Zo, but we don't spit on the Kremlin in Moscow. Or, well, slap a cop in bum$%&@, Russia. You know what I mean." The bearded, blue-eyed American smiled at her and whistled. "Come on, we still have that car accident to go on. You know it's fishy." "No, I know, it's not that. Well, it is, but. God, just, God damn! I'm !@#$@#$ sick of Russia. The police are corrupt, the anti-corruption police are corrupt, and the people the anti-corruption police report to are corrupt. The entire damn government is an extortion scheme. It's no wonder half the country is drinking itself to death." "Zo --" "Yeah, yeah. Only 28, plenty of time to be cynical. Come on, Jack. Let's go see that girl. I hope she makes it."
 4. "Operation White Night is a go!" It was all day where the Ouragonian armies were retreating; it was a strategic retreat, where the goals of the Defense had been accomplished. The rest of the Ouragonian army, mostly those in reserve, went to meet up with the Cascadians in equal numbers. It was a chess game now, where every move the Cascadians made the Ouragonians would react to counter. The reactionary game was proving well, as the Cascadian advance stalled heavily and only advanced towards Eugene, which was the plan in the first place. Eugene was never going to be spared fighting. The Cascadians thought their air force would have relative control; but the Ouragonians had made it a point to spot and intercept aircraft and they deployed with overwhelming force. The Ouragonian air bases were in the south of the country, far from any Cascadian control, and the overwhemlingly anti-air prepped Ouragon Air Force combined with anti-air installations would neutralize any Cascadian air force presence, if not outright destroy them. But the outcome of these encounters would be left up to the Cascadian response. However, Operation White Night would be to exploit the Ouragonian intelligence advantage they had. They leaked information that there was an important meeting of high-value targets in Autzen Stadium, including most military and political leadership. They would fake the lights and activity necessary for it to be a convincing fake. Once the night sky would light up from artillery and/or air strikes, the response would be swift and just - an overwhelming strike back at artillery, advancing infantry, or air forces.

 6.
What Poseida put as her own emphasis was more or less a manifestation of my OOC feelings regarding the widely proliferated inaccuracies that have plagued the boards regarding this defection by Gloval. Take back 'what may or may not have been given' was a quip at how people like Cent and Gloval were under the false impression that Terre Regius was given explicit hardware that could be reverse engineered.
It honestly doesn't matter to me what he took whatsoever, and this has nothing to do with your imagined phallocentric tyranny ;] (I may not go on IRC but I do still have friends; and I will slap Chris for being a twit) It simply seems to me that Gloval made copies and lied about giving them back; whatever he made copies of is unimportant, honestly. And that's all I'm fighting about.
 7. If the ruling isn't in here, how are you to expect new players to know them? This is literally the first time I've ever even heard that we have to tell other people when we're lying. If you tried to enforce that rule on me you'd be hard-pressed to get me to cooperate since it's not written down anywhere that's given any weight.
 8.
Except Gloval probably never intended on returning any of it. It was only when he was kick out of/left the AUP that he was required to return all the classified material. CNRP is a solely text-based game, so what you write and how you write it is extremely important. If you write that you return everything, it means that you return everything. If you write that you return the original copies of designs, it means you kept your photocopies. Now, if the AUP doesn't really care if Gloval keeps photocopies of a few technologies that I have no idea what they are, I'd be more than willing to just let this case go and make sure that EVERYONE knows the rules when it comes to this in the future.
Your point in bold makes no sense. Why makes copies if he thinks he won't have to return it? It makes no sense from an in-character perspective to make copies to reverse engineer; and, it makes no sense from an out-of-character perspective since Gloval probably knew he'd have to return it when he left. Would you ever make a copy of something you thought you would never lose? No - you make a copy in case something happens, like you lose it, or it's stolen. As for your point in italics, it is contradicted by the IC actions set out by both parties. Gloval was given a specific set of items. In fact, the AUP kept a record of the specific items that were given, and he only had to give those specific items back. I quote, "Industries would enforce the AUP's end of the materiel and technology transfer, accounting for any and all units and items that may or may not have been sent to Terre Regius in the short time it was a member of the African Bloc." My emphasis is in bold. Gloval only was given a specific set of items, and he was accounted for only returning a specific set of items. The AUP doesn't know he took them. There's no way to know he took them. They only gave him a certain amount of items, and he only had to return a certain amount of items. And Gloval nor the AUP ever mentioned getting extra items back from him. This is a purely OOC issue; I don't even see what you're ruling on at this point other than the issue of someone lying.
It was in the books from more than an year ago: A character can lie and not be accused of metagaming only if there was anything written that showed it was a lie before or during the lying statement.
Convenient that it isn't actually in either the world map thread or this one.
 9.
RPing standards trumps "logic", although I do think there is no such thing as "logic" in the first place in the idiocy hellhole CNRP is in the first place.
And pray tell which standard exactly says that when you covertly copy documents you must return those covertly copied documents because somebody got their feelings hurt a few days ago? It seems to me like nobody had the decency to simply ask Gloval if he intended to return the covertly copied documents, and if so, to clarify. Instead of trying to get it straightened out like decent human beings, somebody whined and is trying to get IC actions overturned because of iffy OOC standards that trump RP IC actions. If anything, general RPing standards should say that Gloval's in the right. In addition, I don't see any rule or standard written down in the map thread or in this GM's court stating that Gloval did anything against the rules. There is no rule against a character lying - and if there is, you can't retroactively enforce a rule that nobody was told about because it wasn't on the books.
 10.
The point KaiserMelech Mikhail is making is that unless you specifically mention retaining those copies, for all purposes you have returned everything when you write "everything was given back". We're focusing on the metagaming aspect.
But "everything" requires that there is a specific thing being taken and being returned. If you say "I gave back everything" then you are ONLY giving back everything you originally took; if you say "I gave back everything AND the extra stuff I made copies of" THEN you are giving the extra copies back. It's not metagaming at all - there is clear IC intent to have secret copies made, meaning we know from posts weeks/days (I don't know the timeline, unfortunately) beforehand that he is intent on keeping these secrets for himself after they have to be returned. After all, why would you make a copy if you were just going to return it? Which makes more sense from an IC perspective: Nation A gets stuff from Nation B, copies it so that he can attempt to use it later, and gives stuff back to Nation B when asked but keeps copies so he can continue his research Nation A gets stuff from Nation B, copies it so that he can attempt to use it later, and gives stuff AND copies back, thus rendering the entire point of copying it in the first place null If you went with the first, you're having a logical progression of events. I don't see any metagaming in it at all. If you went with the second, you're having an illogical progression of events, and to be honest I'd be more willing to call that metagaming because he's influencing his IC actions by being afraid of getting caught and being warred on due to OOC suspicions.
 11. I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If somebody gives you ten documents and ask you for those documents back, you're not going to give twenty documents back and say "oh by the way I've been working hard to keep your secrets for myself but I'll just give these back". Further, I think it's common sense that if you're going to copy something you might as well make it digital or reproduce able without outside aid, thus meaning that even if he returned photocopies he'd still have a digital copy. It's like the story of the DARE officer passing three blunts around the classroom and warning if they didn't have all three returned by the end he'd search everybody, and in the end there were four blunts - an urban legend, because nobody is stupid enough to actually do it. There's no risk in keeping them because the AUP has no reason to suspect anything; and, even if the AUP did, they'd have to literally invade him to prove their point. Also, they don't know he made copies - so when they ask for their stuff back (or when he gives their stuff back), those copies aren't what they're asking for back. If they don't know about the extra documents, they can't ask for them.
 12. T-MINUS 00:30 "Sir, we have incoming reports from all thoroughfares - there is an impending invasion. Available information shows us a Theory Seven scenario. Verification pending." Marshall Alexander sighed. "Verify." T-MINUS 00:15 "Verified. "Shall we deploy?" "Unfortunately." In response to the invasion, Army Group I would immediately alarm major bridges, interstates, or otherwise invasion-necessary roads marked as an X on the map. There would be a deployment of Army Groups I, II, and III at suitable distances back to allow the Cascadians to advance. Then, pre-war protocols would go into effect.Upon the bridges and interstates blowing and confirmed activation, Groups I and III would advance and engage. AA missile installations would rise up in Eugene, and patrols would go into the sky to sweep for aircraft of any kind, where they would attempt to shoot down. There was an expected advantage here, as it was expected for the Cascadians to have anti-ground as well as anti-air munitions; the Ouragonian aircraft would last longer in a firefight with their sole AA weapons. It was a gamble, but the payoff would be great as soon as interception would begin. Group II would as the Cascadians never reach the border, wait and fortify. They would also disperse into the wilderness and forest to keep a defensive area as large as possible. Group III would blow the explosives at the border, then assault the cut-off troops almost immediately. Given that the Cascadians would all reach the border at the same time, there should be no heads-up for them to avoid the explosives; but, if there were, the plan was to bottleneck them there anyway.Group I was to meet the opposing army with full force and refuse to allow them to enter Santa Clara or the Eugene outskirts. If troops were crossing these bridges, they would be blown. Group IV, focused around Walla Walla, would defend both major roadways in, with focus on the area expected for be assaulted by the enemy. Group V, out of La Grande, would advance westward, assisting Group IV, and continue westward towards The Dulles. They would stop at the border of a bridge, which, if not blown, would be fortified in use for pending invasion. Group VI, based out of La Grande, would take the fastest route to meet the invasion group. They would also blow the bridge and set off major traps to the east, where an emergency group was being called up to defend the eastmost area, where almost nobody lived.
 13. Internally Visible Military Readiness Report – 11/12 1 Pre-War Defense: Bridge Rigging Along every major bridge (those able to carry tanks and modern armor) in the regions bordering Cascadia would there be extremely power explosives placed, with three-men redundant teams hidden in place to have them blow in case of emergency. The plan would require a code put in every 3 minutes when an alarm is triggered - if the code wasn't put in, the bridge would blow. The alarm is automatically triggered when damage is done to the small guard's post that the alarm is held in. There are two others who can manually detonate the bridge's explosives in case of automatic failure. Priority is to be placed on allowing a small amount of armor across, where they will be useless without backup - and then blowing when more armor is on the bridge, destroying them and blocking the majority of the troops behind the river. The same would apply to the interstate, where at points that are the most inconvenient, they would be blown. At these areas, since armor can still advance but far slower, there would be a longer lines of explosives and they would be solely focused on destroying armor. Along the side, cheaply produced explosives designed to spew flammable liquids and alight would produce widespread, massive, swift-growing fires that would encouragingly spread towards the Cascadian border due to firebreaks. (Note: the firebreaks would not be finished in time for the invasion) 2 Pre-War Defense: Espionage A few sympathetic energetic southerners were able to hide out in the wild during the chaos and camp out surreptitiously to spy on any movements near the border. These would come in handy, as they would use trained, tagged dogs (who would look like cattle dogs or hunting dogs) to bring messages back to the border, which at this point was not heavily fortified. It was highly suggested not to perform any activities considered dangerous or life-threatening. 3 Pre-War Defense: Traps Upon hearing of invasion, grenades and other small explosives would be placed to trigger landslides in the Cascades, avalanches, or spring pre-placed firetraps. Other trees will be felled to block smaller roads, and in these trees will be grenades to hinder the progress of those who try to clear them. As traps are placed, more will be put ahead. No mines will be used. 4 Pre-War Defense: Urban Warfare Initiatives CLASSIFIED PROJECTS include: lethal, demoralizing weapons, such as the Hedgehog (explosives plus rods!); the Catherine Wheel (spewing flammable gels and liquids plus fire!); the Flame-o-pult (using an old-school catapult to launch a fuel-air bomb a short distance into an enclosed area); and the Stakes Project (a device that, when used, propels a group of grenades willed with shrapnel). In addition, almost every soldier would be outfitted with easy-to-use small arms like extra grenades and add-ons such as laser sights in an attempt to improve aim. 5 Pre-War Defense: Production Finally, the factories were working double time with extra shifts by volunteer populace to pump out anti-air weapons to combat enemy air forces. Fuel supplies would be put in easily accessible places and AA missiles would be stockpiled for air force bases so that planes could go back into battle swiftly, and patrols were reduced slightly in the air and increased majorly on the ground to reduce maintenance time. And a handful of anti-air missile installments would be placed, two in Eugene and two in Bend and two in Boise, with that number to be tripled during the war. It would be quite a while for the new ones to come into place, however.

Externally Visible: A National Plebiscite was held where the new flag of Ouragon was selected and voted on. The flag, a black/grey-themed piece with a broken pickax alternating black and grey for visibility, is packed with symbolism. The black color symbolizes the Reunification Conflict and the ongoing fight with Cascadia, and mourns for the split state of the Pacific Northwest. The black pickax head is a tribute to the lost workers and sons and fathers of all ongoing conflicts, a symbol that the hardest hit by war are those who never wanted to go at all. The grey color symbolizes the strife of the past and how only years ago was the state Tahoe struck by civil unrest, leading to further unrest and exploitation in the region. It is a symbol of ongoing healing in a new society. The pickax handle, grey in color, also is stylized in the shape of a sword blade - that war is in the past and industry and the bodies of the men represented by the ax blade build war. The flag is unofficially called the Black Ax.

 19. I'd be glad to talk to you, Mr. Malatose, about some sort of conflict. But seeing as I'm already involved in a consensual one with a friend I think it would be quite unsportsmanlike of you to attempt to gobble me up and interrupt a long-planned conflict. <3
 20.
I'd like to pass on our condolances from everyone at the NPL. This is very sad news
I second this. It's always sad to hear the passing of another.

 23. I had a nice little reply up to you, Executive Minister, but all you had to do was trot out this gem:
I simply saw a side to you that not very many have in CNRP
And it showed me just how obsessed you are. Get over it, get over yourself, and stop making this roleplay an exercise in how to alienate people over a game. And go ahead, call me a retard again. It really reinforces your argument you don't personally go after people because they disagree with you.
 24.
snip
Anybody so dense that he hasn't realized that what happens in a fictional campaign and what happens in real life are separate shouldn't be calling anybody else dense. The underlying message here is that "if you threaten Africa, you're dead to me both in and out of characters"; alternatively, "if I feel a false sense of victimhood over a group writing game I'm going to become a petulant child". This entire debacle just screams of childishness, from everybody involved, but I'm most disappointed in people like you who will literally go out of their way to specifically mention other people and how much you personally dislike them because of their actions over a game. I'm glad you're in Africa - I think the amount of toxicity radiating from people like you would be detrimental to the game if more than a handful of people ever picked it up. I honestly don't know who Zoot Zoot is but he's got the right idea - if you simply can't bear to play with Triyun or Sarah Tintagyl or whoever the hell else, why not just pull your big boy pants up and distance yourself from them, instead of make in and out of character conspiracies to try to bring them down, subsequently throwing all this negativity and discord around. It's absolutely ridiculous.
 25. Am I the only one who thinks that Executive Minister "resent[ing]" Sarah Tintagyl is ridiculously overboard and kind of mental? What kind of thought process goes from, oh this other person doesn't do the same RP I do, let's literally dislike them as a person? The whole GM thing (I still don't understand that but I digress) aside, the most worrying part of this entire revelation is that people here are actively disliking and, apparently, hating one another over fiction. What the hell goes on that makes you people get so personal? I can get trying to make some fictional megapower crystals to get an advantage, I can get trying to rig the rules in your favor (it is a game, after all), but ... just, why all the personal crap?
