  1. A lazy, short post that would necessitate lengthy historical analysis to rebuff. This is more of a thing for Crymson to bite on; you know I can't be assed, Omni.

No more shallow than what you threw at Stefano. So, with that I'll just leave the thread. Good luck out tnere.
  2. That makes absolutely no sense.

Oh no, did you not understand me calling you a side show sucking up to those in power? In that case I can repeat it.

Your entire policy in the past was to play second fiddle to a much more cunning and powerful ally. Why is it so revolting now? Did you finally reach enlightment?
  3. After eQ, TOP first looked to better integrate itself with old proximate allies from the sphere it fought alongside. At every turn I found individuals and alliances willing to take all that TOP could provide but who were unwilling to offer even a token acknowledgment of cooperation in return. Were we to stay put and remain a peripheral plaything of a bloc that itself succumbed to stockholm syndrome with Pacifica?

But it worked so well for you guys in the past. Hello Q and Unholy Alliance!
  4. You're getting too deep in your thoughts without tethering yourself down. Strength lies in NS and the ability to use it in war. The undisputed best way to get there without any distractions is by not fighting wars (ergo being a neutral), not by being a Francoist or NPO or MK. The alliances that play politics don't play for strength maximization, they play for fun, whose chief form is based in roleplay.

That is one of the worst arguments I've ever seen here. How many people believe GPA or even TDO is powerful? Who cowers at the thought of fighting MHA or Sparta for that matter? NS don't count for shit. Power in the game relies on perception. I remember several cases where NS was fairly balanced or even tipped towards the losing party, but the perception of the events causes people to make decisions opposite of what the NS says. Anyone with a good grasp of CN history can confirm this.

What is so insane about attacking someone and watching them trip all over themselves?

I'm not sure who you are, but your AA says "the mafia". I remember they were a joke of an alliance and cowardly. I don't know if you have any relation to them but it makes me want to disregard everything you say.

I'd be interested to hear what Daj's idea was though?

He can explain it better than I can, but the main thing was getting rid of the million dollar cap when money is won from battles. Warchests then dwindle quicker, wars end quicker, hypothetically there would be more wars, and then we slowly we wouldn't have enough time to build massive chests in between wars. Again, this seemed great post-Karma, but by now we may have overdone it. I think done correctly this might smooth the big things out over time, but then the rest of the slack falls on the community to work with it.
  7. I agree, the game looks like it was designed to last for 3 years from the start, with changes that got maybe an extra year or two in there. We're really at the point where play has continued past what game mechanics initially envisioned, and it's at a point where new players are at such a disadvantage that they don't sign up. Not to mention war in the age of the super warchest has made it so that wars need to be 4 vs 1 to even have a chance at a decisive victory, and even then defeat only comes because the other side gets sick of logging in and click buttons at 1 am for 2 months straight. If CN wants a chance at surviving in the future, it either needs a second server or a reset.

The warchest thing can be solved somewhat by Dajobo's idea. Although it might be too late now that chests are in the tens of billions.
  8. @ Ogaden
There are no rules and never have been. There is only power. Those who have
power determine the rules of the time and (try) to impose those rules on everyone
    else.

We' ve always been monsters and (as a group) always will be. The trick to thriving
on this planet is to keep this fact in mind and prepare accordingly in private while at the
same time treating each other as if we are all civilized.

I agree. In every game there's certain courtesy rules. Try asking for those in CN and you become a dirty moralist or whatever they say these days. There needs to be some sort of paradigm shift really; against this nihilistic cynicism towards everyone and everything.

Like it still amazes me how many people hang around here to talk shit about the game. I mean, you can leave at any time. But wow, I'm way off topic now. Good luck to everyone fighting.
  9. Quantity is no substitute for quality, though he has been somewhat more concise lately admittedly.

Do you really think his posts are bad? Or are you just mad they are against you. :P

Like I think Ardus is a good poster even though his posts make me recoil in horror. I think Illyani is decent although I'd like to shut him up.
  10. I was thinking just this myself.

I suspect the many times they watched people who would have helped them burn without giving a care in the world destroyed political capital that they didn't even know they had. Years ago I'd have fought for a neutral but I know personally their decision to watch us burn over and over made real sure I don't care about them now!
My attitude is I would never attack neutrals and I don't believe they detract from planet Bob but they chose to never help anyone and now they live with their choices.

I just think it's strange going from the Woodstock massacre to post-Karma feelings about how evil this was to jokingly saying "let's roll neutrals" to finally the slope that lead to this. I mean a couple of years ago coslitions would been put together for rolling any tiny alliance (Thriller situation, Grub and Polar) Now everyone just kind of laughs at this. How do opinions change so much here?
  11. I've remembered three more things from the past that used to be quite common, but these days are obsolete. First, aid-trees. One big nation sends out three million, which was then divided by the recipient who sent it out to several more nations. At the end, nations would usually receive about $250,000. It made economics somewhat interesting back then.

Second, intelligence gathering. I was one the pioneers of that field. It involved many hours looking at war and aid screens looking for patterns. I had dozens of people doing that for me. Sadly, it has been replaced by computers.

Third, discussions about Francoism. I don't think anyone misses that last one.

Although it wasn't too long ago; everytime I see RV post I remember back when NSO had a shit ton of posters out on the OWF. I miss that. Most of the posts between Karma to 6 million were with NSOers or MKers. Why do alliances not have a large OWF presence anymore?
  12. I only skimmed the article, but the conclusion I took from it seems to be that MK lacked some kind of ideology to really create a hegemony.

First, the "MK hegemony" lasted longer than NPO's.  Granted, our hegemony was more collective than NPO's, we never quite had the in-game stats or treaty volume to match NPO's, and relied more on allies.  But it was at least as enduring.

Second, Francoism was a bunch of words that almost no one took seriously.  It was nothing more than a veneer for NPO to role play with.

    Mostly this.

Of course that ignores that friends > infra was never really a "MK ideology". If MK had an ideology at all it was "Everything. Must. Die.". A kind of "I'll knock all the stars from the sky" type thing. I think you can kind of see the effects of this in the first few posts to your topic "lol did you really do this!!!".

On friends > infra I believe it was Flak Attack who said something like "Friends > infra was a great tool to inspire us to fight NPO and a great tool to shame our enemies into beat downs". Elevating it into a guiding philosophy is like turning windmills into giants. It's just not there. RV says Francoism was the same thing. He certainly has the authority to say that, so maybe there never were giants here.
  13.
This is probably why so many people that used to be your friends don't actually like you anymore, you are stupid and keep trying to beat a dead horse.

Oh no, I'm so heartbroken. Please be my friend again. Oh wait,Who gives a fuck?

But hey, since I never said it good luck to you MK guys moving forward Banksy, Bros, and a few others are good people and I wish you all nothing but the best on a personal level.
