  1. Even with the financial measure thrown in there? I definitely see your point though, maybe there is still someway that it could work though -- somehow.
  2. I found that both interesting and upsetting, lol
  3. Part of the inspiration for this is actually from Facebook's new format that is pretty much all-in-one. We could easily apply the same principles into this UI. What those principles are, I have no idea.
  4. A big problem that Cybernations has is it's unappealing look. I showed the game to a teacher of mine and she commented on how overly official and bland it was -- the game came across as more of a business than an actual game. The fact is, as much as we pride ourselves as thinking there is serious business in Cybernations it still remains a game. Therefore I have come up with some ideas for a new format for the game. These changes improve the aesthetics as well as the functionality of the game. The basic premise of this new UI is to be able to manage your entire nation all from one concurrent screen. The left side displays your log in display and your nation ID card -- this allows you to edit your nation info at will. This sample only shows the ability to edit DEFCON, your flag, your notepad, Treat Level, Team, and Alliance Affiliation. But you also would be able to determine your ethnicity, currency, capital city, etc. The log-in display at the top of the screen also allows you to cycle through different options. You can visit the forums, see the about the game screen, visit the CN Wiki, everything that you can currently do. The very top-right side displays all you message info, dividing it into four sections. Beneath that is the basic management info where you can purchase tech, land, and infra. In that little strip beneath, you can cycle through different management screens: Charts, Funds, Wars, Spies, Aid, Events, Improvements, etc. It takes the current left sided panel and places it horizontally and in a more legible, easy to flip through format. The logo color is based on your team. If you are on the red team it's red, blue team it's blue, etc. On some of the lighter color teams the color of the text changes from white to black. Some other notes to make also. If you highlight over a selectable item, the text will become bold and increase in size to indicate that it is selectable.
  5. I came up with some prototype rules for investment. Check it out!
  6. This idea is partially inspired by SimCity. The basic notion of this idea is that your nation is organized by tiles. 1 Tile "cost" 10 infrastructure and 20 units of land, in the initial idea, it will most likely change. For every 10 levels of infrastructure and 20 miles of land you unlock 1 Tile. Tiles are used to designate zones and buildings. There are industrial zones, agrarian zones, commercial zones, and residential zones. Zones are initially free. Agrarian zones reduce infrastructure costs by 0.01%. Reduces environment by 0.001. Industrial zones reduce technology costs by 0.1%. There must be twice as much agrarian zone as industrial zones. You cannot exceed the 2:1 Agrarian:Industrial ratio. You must also have factories relative to the amount of industrial zone you wish to have. One factory = 100 Industrial Tiles. Therefore you cannot have more than 500 industrial tiles. Each industrial zone reduces environment by 0.01. Commercial zones increase citizen income by $0.01 per tile. One bank = 100 Commercial Tiles. Each residential tile provides 10 citizens with no impact to population density. It does however, affect improvement purchases. Improvements now cost 100 infrastructure rather than 1,000 citizens. They cost 1 tile and perform their designated task. Great Wonders cost 4-10 tiles based upon the scope of their role, and they perform their designated tasks. There are also null tiles which are so when they are purchased but not being used, or war has stripped you of being able to use them.
  7. I've been thinking about that, and I think maybe it aught to be votes. Although I don't know how it could affect the economy in a sound and productive manner. So for now it is simply votes.
  8. Current Situation: The scoring system, while accurately portraying the physical strength of an alliance, it does not capture the things that the game goes not measure such as the virtue of its members, events in the game, etc. Solution: Create a bidding system where people invest in alliances. Investing weighs an alliance's score thereby more accurately measuring it's status. For instance we have GPA and TOOL, their scores are about equal at the moment, but given that GPA is a neutral alliance it is less likely to win a war against TOOL. I would probably invest in TOOL and that would weigh their score. You can invest a maximum of $10,000,000 per bid slot. There are three bid slots available with the possibility of new improvements to increase this amount. You invest in an alliance with the hope more people will bid in an alliance. When a person bids after you, the money you have invested increases by 1%. If you have $100 invested, after one person invests you have $101. If you have $10,000,000 after one person invests you earn $100,000. On the flip side every pulled investment costs you 2%. If you have $10,000,000 invested and someone pulls out you lose $200,000 in possible income. Once you are content with the earnings you have made, you may pull out. There is a three day waiting period however between you confirming the withdrawal and you earning the money. The money you earn is based on the strength of the market when the money is earned, not when you filed for the withdrawal. This is designed to encourage some planning before you make a withdrawal. Over the course of a single day for sanctioned alliances. If shares drop by 25%, then the ability to buy and sell stops for the rest of the day for that alliance. That is the basic idea, investment weighs an alliance's score. In fact there aught to be the current unweighted score alongside the new weighted score which incorporates all the investments of players. That way we have two measurements.
  9. C'mon, let's face it. Government is a disgrace. Government, which should be a larger part of the game, does nothing. It just causes headaches until you can get a Great Monument, and then you never have to deal with government again. This is a travesty on the highest level. I've suggested this idea many times and it never seems to get its foot through the door. Although I realize now part of the problem is that the government suggestion would require far more activity on part of the users, and it would be of a disadvantage to the more casual players. Therefore I have come up with an adapted system. There are four government types: Autocracy, Aristocracy, Democracy, and Anarchy: Everyone looks at this and panics. They think "I can't be a socialist dictator anymore!" or "I can't be a fascist anymore?!" most of the complains are from the RL control freaks/people who have posters of Che all over their walls, who want to have that reflected in game. The fact is, this idea lays the frame work for far more in-depth leadership for those who wish to pursue it. At the basic level there are the four basic governments based on Civil Contentment which is something I will get to later. As infrastructure increases however, you gain access to more public policy options. Civil Contentment = (Avg. Net Daily Population Income After Taxes)(Environment) / Literacy Rate This basically means the more money your people have after taxes (take home money), the better the environment, and the higher the literacy rate of the people, the more democratic they are (the lower the score). The reverse is true, the higher the score, the more autocratic they are. The score goes from 0.1 to 10. x < 3.2 is Democratic. 3.4 < x < 6.5 is Aristocratic. x > 6.7 is Autocratic. 3.3 and 6.6 are Anarchy. If you cross those numbers, you will enter a state of Anarchy. In fact, that would be the only way Anarchy could occur, is if those numbers were transgressed. If you lose all your troops, Anarchy would only occur if that barrier was breached... which is very, very likely. Government Propaganda, if successful, would change your Contentment Ranking to that of the spying nation. Position Panel -- For every 5000 levels of infrastructure, you unlock a new page of Government Position Panel options based on your government type when that threshold was obtained. Misc. If you trade with nations of the same government type, you get a +0.5 happiness bonus. Great Monument - $70,000,000 - The great monument is a testament to your great leadership. Increases happiness +5, Makes available all the government position options. Increases trade bonus to +1.0 with people of the same government type.
  10. I could start up a blog on changing religion, government, etc. The vast majority of my suggestions are aimed at that lol. Absolutely amazing suggestions (DAC), as unsurprisingly expected. Your in-game suggestion making expertise is the golden standard that all should strive for.
