  1. This was a quick tempered response to sabre's remark, it was hardly unjustified, given the recent developments that are the cause for the tention sponge is feeling.
all the more reason to keep off the message board when in an emotional state- especially when comments here or in IRC have been the crux of the beginnings/endings of wars.
  2. Glad we could be fodder for your training operations.

I have to chuckle at your use of the word diplomacy, since there was zero diplomacy in regards to PG13 used by vanguard before you decided to destroy our alliance.

a tech raid isn't about diplomacy. it's about pulling more tech into your nation on the cheap, and getting your nations used to fighting in a war.

in this era of CN, an update-blitzkrieg on an unknowing opponent could break them at the outset. and whoever has the deepest pockets can outlast their opponent, if they play it smart.

fact of the matter is, a small raid on a few nations in your alliance isn't destroying your alliance. it's a setback, a headache, and a lesson. learn from it, and from fly's complete lack of a brain stem.

    Are you offering?
tela talked about Echelon's one man protectorate earlier. that was me. this was tela's protectorate announcement.

having been in echelon back in the good ol' days, they're a great bunch of people, and i sincerely hope that you do get a protectorate agreement from them.

  3. Echelon likes to wish TAA best of luck in his new alliance. And I feel it is in order to say that any nation still flying the AA of IYAOYAS will _not_ be under Echelon protection anymore.

    that poor, inactive, non-PMing soul.

  4. I don't know very much about IYAOYAS, but I respect you for trying your best with it.

Good luck to you and your members! ;)

Splintered off of Echelon and ended up trying to have a go of building my own alliance. Being in blue reduced my pool of members, and the larger alliances with more aggressive recruiting practices could snatch people up and administer aid faster.

No hard feelings about it. I respect the hell out of Echelon and their members, but as I stated- it was only a placeholder until I found a new home.

Some might recall the simple but effective protectorate announcement made by tela here

    IYAOYAS Official Statement

As of today, Friday June 6, 2008, my last act as the leader if IYAOYAS is to disband the alliance. Ninety-six days in the running, but only intended by myself to be a placeholder while I transitioned from Echelon to another alliance once I found a new home. Along the way, I picked up six recruits and I feel that I have given them a good foundation to grow upon. Most of them have decided to take my advice, upon their decision to stay on the blue team, of applying at Echelon and I hope that Echelon and their nations are strengthened by this move.

As for myself, I have closed up shop and moved in with IngSoc. And as much as I would have loved to make this declaration in newspeak, the 10th Newspeak Dictionary just lacks the personal touches of real English.

Echelon has been wonderful for having extended their protection to IYAOYAS though, and I look forward to continued diplomatic relations with them in the future.

  6. Man, there sure isn't much more to this game then the actual mechanics. What makes CN interesting is the politics. Doing a reset after so much time wipes away the history for everyone that was there, and cheapens what's left. What happens when the same thing happens this time. Do you clamor for a reset again? It's a political game. If you don't get your way, things just don't restart.

doing a reset erases your NS, not the history. unless you do a dump of the forum, all the history is still here. cheapening what's left? please. nowhere did i ask for a reset. i'm just holding up the mirror so those that make ignorant statements like "r histry iz lost!" see the truth.

the only real way to get ahead if there was a reset would be to do donations, and the children that have some of the highest NS' currently wouldn't be able to rebuild as fast because they don't have any means to make the donation. never mind that the donation system is broken anyway.

  7. Or because it might be that some of us put over two years into this game, and if it was reset, all our work would have been washed away.
    all your work?

a game reset wouldn't alter the mechanics of the game. it wouldn't erase your precious guides. it wouldn't delete your off-site forums.

and honestly, you can't tell me that building back up would be a huge chore. yes, it would suck at first, but it would change the dynamic of the game to the point where it'd be interesting again, instead of nearly everyone being a cookie cutter order clone and begging for scraps from their table.

but i guess that would suck for the orders because they're used to everyone doing that.

  8. .Speaks in absolutes? What? Star Wars month is over.

I stated that Viceroys have not become significantly more common recently. That point (a minor point in the wider debate) still stands.

speaking in absolutes is a SW quote?

you stated: 'they have not been used in nearly 7 months' and yet MegaAros provided proof that it did happen, and you're dismissive so that your point will somehow exist outside of the reality that they have been used.

  9. Sorry, was this directed at me, or at another post in the thread? I can't seem to find a context which would match your response.
directed at the OP, since he started an alliance called IngSoc, based on the novel, 1984.
Indeed. Taking the time to get to know what's going on (and who is who and all that) is absolutely essential. If people aren't willing to do that, then whatever verbal spanking they receive from running their mouths is their own fault.
and when it trancends from a verbal spanking to actually attacking the nation in the game because of their misunderstanding about how seriously some children take the game- then what? it's only acceptable because might makes right.
  10. Well, as the majority of political and social interactions occur on IRC, it might be a good idea to explore that arena if you wish to expand your knowledge of a given situation. Since my original statement was not directed at what was said to you specifically, but at your assertion that new users would be put off by being told to learn more, I have to wonder if you're deliberately attempting to move the goalposts to disprove me.

while participating in this thread, about this subject, i was told to use irc to contact a fellow player about their post- which is counterintuitive, in that we're already on a message board.

there are no goal posts. you're assuming something completely different than what my "new nation scenario" entails.

  11. I think you'll find that the leaders of these larger alliances prefer people to have knowledge of what their talking about when joining a conversation. If you interject with something which is wrong, or based on an incorrect premise then they have no responsibility to correct you nicely. In plainer terms, if you feel the need to add your opinion to something you know little about, then you should be prepared to be rebuffed.
i'm glad that you're pointing out an excessively obvious thing to someone that's been around the block a could times. my statement was referring to the treatment of new people and how it is carried over to everyone because of the prevailing attitude.
  12. Geez. Talk about reading too much into something.
i just find some great humor in it because it's been used as a style of redressing people who aren't conforming to the dictum of the powerhouses in declarations of war and in general on the boards because of someone's posting.

    TSH had declarations of education.

people get threatened with "you better learn who you're talking to" when someone falsely corrects one of the leaders of the orders.

how is a new player to the game who is stressed out about their new nation getting wasted supposed to automatically know who the leader of NpO is? and when he furthers his idiotic posting, everyone sends their smallest nations in to tear the ignorant kid apart. awesome politics.

now, i'm not new to the game at all, and i won't use it as an excuse. i've attempted to be very level headed in my posting on the official site. but there is a certain air of superiority inherent to many people in this game who choose to speak down to other people as if they were children. and i will admit, that when it happens, i can slip into troll mode. my intention isn't to be that guy all the time, but some of the language that has become second nature in the game only exacerbates things, even when used as a friendly advisory remark.

  13. Oh no! He's onto me! A light touch of irony at the end of a serious and hard-hitting post. New Reverie took it in the spirit intended and we discussed some of his points over IRC after he read my response. Perhaps you will learn to do likewise.
it was evident throughout the post. i snipped just the tail end because quoting a wall of text was unnecessary.

and i keep hearing this "you will learn" and "you would do best to learn" stuff. handing me the statement as a ultimatum. further emphasizing that if i don't think the way others have told me to, there's an implied consequence.

unless there's not a consequence, and it's a crutch that the posters use as a staple of their natural speech patterns. but perhaps they will learn to do otherwise.

  14. You see threats where they are none, and are jealous of a 'social life in an online game'. Your paranoid delusions are amusing, and by all means continue making a fool of yourself. It's your right as a 'free thinker'.
    ...
There's a difference between being a free thinker and a bad thinker, you would do best to learn it.
because if i didn't, then what?

and if you could please identify the area where i stated i was jealous of someone's social life in CN, i'd appreciate it. pointing out that it is all someone has in life because of the effort they put into grinding other people down isn't an admission of jealousy. it's a calculated fact that you try to throw a strawman at.

  15. I noticed that was the only part of Vladimir's post you addressed.

i quoted two portions of his post. the first was about his dealing with the OP, and the second was about his inability to behave in a civil manner.

as i already stated, i focused on the internal policies of the alliances i've been in, not the foreign policy. i do not have the ability to wax poetic about the causes of the past great wars. so i addressed what was pertinent and glaringly obvious.

Show me again where might has anything to do with a forum post. There's a difference between being a free thinker and a bad thinker, you would do best to learn it.
what i quoted previously was barely a veiled threat, and it appears that i get more of the same from you. the only reason that you deem NR as a "bad thinker" is because you live in the fairy tale of having power. but as i've already pointed out, your triumphant social life in an online game and the fact that you tout it with such high regard says a lot.
  16. Politics has always been a dirty business and people have used whatever tools were available and necessary.
might makes right. so you obviously missed the point of the OP.
So I'm afraid that I'm going to have to say that I respectfully disagree.
except you weren't respectful in your post at all, relying more on sarcasm and thumbing your nose at someone's ideas instead of formulating a respectful and honest reply in the interest of a free exchange of ideas, also known as a discussion.
To the victor goes the spoils. Breaking up alliances is merely the successful conclusion of a well fought campaign and the total failure of diplomacy. I see nothing wrong with this and would say that it merely adds another dimension to the game that should make a person think twice before acting a bit to barmy.
i disagree. it has been the total failure of the victor to even seek diplomacy, believeing in their own supremacy and not wanting to deal with the same people hanging out in an alliance together. which is what the OP addressed as well.
I believe you just made my point. No matter what the NPO does, we can never "force" an alliance to disband. That's a choice said alliance makes.
you seemed to have missed the point of the OP as well. making a game so unbearable to play and creating an environment of despair around them, effectively turning them into "untouchables" at the expense of your humour and whimsy, and praying to see them gone every day when you log in... is the environment that causes an alliance to disband.
    Close, but no cigar.

Might does not make right, NR.

    yellow no5. revenge doctrine.

yeah, might makes right. as long as you're still the one with the biggest stick, you get to impose your will upon those that have differing views than your own.

Does this thread have a point? Ranting about your own incorrect interpretation of history and saying you're sad does not make a critical analysis. Although, I guess the spot of 'outspoken opponent of the status quo' is currently open, is that really the path you want to go down?
yet again, might dictating that they are right by ostracizing a "free thinker" who dares to present an opposing view than what is acceptable to those in power or their minions, who's only role is to enforce the will of their masters because they have the inability to express their own opinion.

all my quotes being addressed, i will say that i enjoyed the read NR provided and look forward to reading the consecutive chapters. i haven't been a big practitioner of the fine art called dramanations, focusing more on trying to help my alliances from within and letting people that have been around for a far longer time focus on the exterior politics. that being said, a spade is a spade, and even when it thinks and professes to be a rake, it's still a spade. i see people swoop in here and make comments directly supporting the OP, yet the writer of said posts has chosen to attempt to spin their post as if it were an opposing view. claiming that it's acceptable to eviscerate your opponent and excise their will to continue playing a game on the internet just so you can feel better about your social life in the aforementioned game is well, pretty sad.

  17. Son of a... Why didn't you tell me you posted this? With all the messenger talks we have you'ld think you would have told me.

Oh and incase anyone missed the previous theard out there, we got his back, so he aint tech raiding material.

i posted it on "my" forum. i figure you would have seen the linking thread there, since it's more yours than mine. :P

giving people a break from the warring. i do miss it though.

  18. this got some tela, caffine, and mero love. thanks guys!

i'm glad that everyone loves the flag. it's the standard "ordnance wings" that we ordies paint on everything. the only real issue is that ordnance paints everything red. but my nation, and alliance haha, is a blue sphere alliance. so i was torn on colouring my flag, and it stayed white.

  19. OOC: It's originally a cavalry saying, "If you ain't cav, you ain't $#!%."

ooc: i won't argue as to who picked up the saying first. a certain arm of the air force uses it as well. we love to hate each other, but all the services don't have a problem stealing from each other.

the Marine Corps aviation ordnance community has been using the saying for longer than i've been alive. no doubt the cavalry has too. it's a moot point really.

IC: thanks for the well wishing, everyone.
