  1. Actually its potface who controls the nation. He was sitting powerstroke's nation when he left on deployment to Afghanistan. Rather than honoring powerstroke's wishes potface has decided to use his nation as a toy.

01[05:03] <Frodark[NPO]> np man, and as soon as you leave peace mode like a hippie FAN ill drink RL beers with you while we look over your destroyed nation

[05:03] <PotFace> LOL, i have two nations now... and mine is bigger than yours

    01[05:04] <Frodark[NPO]> powerstroke?

    [05:04] <PotFace> yep

01[05:04] <Frodark[NPO]> thats not cool man

    [05:04] <PotFace> oh?

    [05:04] <PotFace> how come?

    01[05:04] <Frodark[NPO]> he trusted you

[05:04] <PotFace> he thought admin would allow me to nation-sit for A YEAR

Its sad how far people are willing to go in this game.

If that's true, it is totally not cool at all.

  2. Another clandestine group of 8-year-olds bent on trying to "take down teh ebil NPO"

Totally out of character and off topic, but I happen to know the person who sent that message a little (I used to be in alliance with him). He is a firefighter in real life, and has now I believe served two tours in Afghanistan flying A-10 attack planes.

I don't know anything about what he's doing in game; but, if we think he's childish because he doesn't play an online computer game as well as some of think we do, perhaps we need to reevaluate some things.

  3. The problem is with too many alliances? Seriously? The problem is that the politics of the game and the decisions are made by maybe five percent of the people who play. Many of the rest eventually get bored. To many, being in a small alliance makes them feel like they have more of a voice in matters, and whether that feeling is an illusion or not doesn't even matter as long as it keeps people involved. For me, I think being in a small alliance is more fun because I feel a little closer to my teammates and such. I probably wouldn't even be playing any more if there were like a dozen or so alliances to choose from.

You might decide it's a symptom of the issues you think are problems, but a cause? Come on, now.

Stop standing around waiting for the fun to find you, go out and make it for yourself.

    exactly.

  4. Haha I always imagine that stuff like this happens but still feel like I should give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe we're finally getting to a point where certain alliances won't even bother with fake CB's and will just admit how cutthroat they are.

I think what could make the fakes all the more effective is that the parties are normally just looking for an excuse anyhow, so deliberation and close scrutiny might take a back seat (NOT a hit on VE here but just a general feeling I have on cases like this). Do people willfully look the other way with these lies because it gives them what they want, and therefore assure that such treachery will happen more in the future? I hope not.

To a cop the explanation's always simple. There's no mystery to the street, no arch criminal behind it all. If you find a body and you think his brother did it, you're gonna find out you're right.

  5. "guilt by association" and raiding

    Hi Colonel,

Your points are entirely valid and probably two of the main reasons why CN usership is at about 50 or 60 percent of what it was a few years ago. People need to open their eyes, think of someone other than themselves for a change, and stop performing acts that send people away for good. Not that I'm holding my breath for that.

  6. I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to go back to the original post in this thread, and re-read it. Continue to do so until you realize why your version of reality is in conflict with the actual state of things.

It was not VE or the original post that seemed out of sync to me. The original post and your alliance's response is totally reasonable. Sorry for the confusion.

  7. Also, this thread amuses me. I'm not even sure what we're being flamed for at this point, but clearly, we are the root of all evil. We must have done something monstrously horrific and are now getting our fair share.

Deceiving friends and driving people from the game is just about the worst of the worst, as far as I am concerned. It's that kind of junk that makes people leave for good, and we don't need that. I just found it odd that people decided that the possible storage of private information was the "last straw" when it seems generally accepted on other occasions.

  8. However, I wonder what effect this will have on the future use of IRC logs as evidence or as justification for diplomatic and military actions. Now that we have undeniable proof that they can be faked - and faked to a level that had previously been viewed as sufficient to prove authenticity - it will be much more difficult to use an IRC log absent any other evidence as a justification for action against a state or alliance.

It will be interesting to see what effect this has long term.

    B

Not much is my guess. They're often just thrown out there as a pretense anyhow.
