  1. Now, if you were an objective observer, would you consider it wise/smart/desirable to let a line for CN be drawn by a small group who is so clearly biased towards another group?

No such thing as an objective observer, Andre, as anyone reading or posting here has their own agenda.

But as an interested third party, I'd say for my nation ingame that although I don't really agree with much of what Vox is, its agenda would be much less dangerous to me than yours.

  2. I understand. But if it were me in the coalition's shoes, I would chalk up the misstep to experience and accept the surrender of those who did so in good faith.

You're justified in continuing the attack, but sometimes--on planet Bob as well as elsewhere--what is just and what is right are two different things.

  3. Maybe UPN let them surrender, but that doesn't mean every alliance must comply with UPN.

While I agree that HoG did declare and deserves what they get in your eyes, it also sounds like your side screwed up and offered peace to a few nations. I believe the rule of "no takebacks" applies here, and if if I dismantled my military machine in order to comply with surrender rules, I'd have a few choice words here. If my captors told me they had their fingers crossed and none of the surrender offers counted, I'd raise a stink too. The voice of one in a true coalition should speak for all, or else no one's words count for much.

If no such offers were actually sent, then unfortunately for HoG members it sounds like trouble.

  4. I can tell you one thing that is wrong. People complaining in every post, polluting the air with nonsense.

Ya gotta love people complaining about too much complaining. ;)

Okay, serious question: do you think that the current political climate is the product of human nature, game mechanics, the current regime, or some combination? It seems to me that as long as one nation can be attacked by three with almost nothing the underdog can do about it, it will remain as is. And people want to be in the stronger position obviously, so they gravitate towards the stronger team. And if the current powerbase is somehow undermined, another would just take its place.

  5. You cannot deny the fact that Vox's latitude of action is limited by their inability to project military power in-game. You might achieve some self-righteous or perceived moral victory, but so long as we have the ability to tangibly (in the context of the game) control the actual outcome in-game, what is it worth?

I really don't feel like I have a dog in this fight (other than in that I hope that the interesting discussion continues). But it's pretty obvious that if VOX were able to convince enough people to quit following those they put to blame, that would cause a very substantial outcome in-game. Nothing self-righteous or perceived about that.

  6. When the Admin resets the game then everyone will have to re-roll to play. That is what it will take to put an end to the acceptability of OOC attacks. This is because attacking a re-roll is an OOC attack. Valid de Impala rerolled as Cereal KILLER, yet was not allowed into the GPA.

Indeed. However, I don't think it would end even if the game reset. The same old players would come back together and it would start all over again.

I have an issue with people who attack re-rolls and then accuse others of OOC attacks.

    Well, guess what, guys?

  7. I suspect that the reason many "nations" and "rulers" have resorted to using IP addresses to identify players is because they believe that some fraction of players are malicious OOC as well as IC. Frankly, from the things I've seen in my time here, I would have to agree. If you have another solution to keeping malicious individuals out of the game, I'm all ears.

    -Z

Maybe, but most of the time I've seen that happen has been for purely in-game, supposedly in-character reasons. Typically, people trace the IPs of nuke rogues or somesuch.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I do think that people who carry out or condone those activities do not make a distinction between IC and OOC.

But, as I said, the "Character" in CN is pretty flimsy to start with. Pretty hard to role-play the leader of one out of thirty thousand perfectly round nations.

  8. There is no IC/OOC line as long as some "nations" and "rulers" use IP addresses to hunt down others. The illusion fades when rerolls are punished, when wars are launched for something that happens in a forum or on IRC, etc., etc.

But let's face it, your CN nation is not exactly an easy thing to roleplay correctly, is it?

  9. It would be pretty neat-o if everyone could step away from their in-game interests and bias in this and stop with the propaganda for a moment, both pro and con.

It's pretty clear to me that the people who started VOX never thought it would get as large as it is. If they did, it would've had a more clear-cut strategy from the start. As it is, it's a suicide mission for their nations; but it's not as if they didn't know that and many of them were about ready to quit before VOX started anynow. Along that same vein, look at the number of people that joined knowing it was a one-way trip. That has to mean something--not every nation in VOX was tagged as ZI or whatever before they joined.

Personally, VOX didn't really seem to be my kind of thing. People are right in that many in VOX are cut from the same cloth as those they look to oppose. From a gameplay standpoint, though, I don't know how anyone wouldn't enjoy more conflict (of EQUAL forces) than the typical curbstompings we have now. And from an enternainment standpoint, it's pure gold. Vox has made things a lot more interesting around here.

  10. Their greatest weakness is the lack of planning and foresight they had in their attempt to take out NPO.

It seems to me that they don't have those things because they never expected it to get that far. Then it caught on, and they decided to go with it. It just sort of "happened," if you will, as a spur-of-the-moment thing. It's not as if these people have been orchestrating this for the past several months.

  11. The dedicated IC way effectively utilises ruthless tactics such as perma-ZI

Except that perma-ZI and EZI are the exact opposite of IC. Punish a brand new nation because they happen to be ran by an old player? OOC.

  12. I don't know--my music collection is nothing but a collection of 1s and 0s too. So are my vacation photos. I'd still be pretty pissed if I went home tonight to find them gone.

Now I wouldn't be nearly as upset if I went home to find the proud nation of Largeblackdot. gone. It just doesn't mean as much to me as those other things. "Grand Scheme" and all that, yaknow? However, that imaginary nation still represents real-life effort and time.

My nation got beat up pretty good in my recent war. I shared PMs with the people attacking, and it was all good. They were playing the game just like I was, and it was all in good fun. It was part of the game. There's a difference between that and getting kicked in the virtual crotch by a spiteful jerk and being told to stop complaining because it isn't real anyhow.

  13. No action has no consequence... that's the definition of an action...

I apply force of 1 newton to a 1kg brick on the ground... consequently the brick begins to slide across the ground slowly.

I am the big bad evil NPO... I decide to destroy Vox Populi... consequently Vox Populi is destroyed and many of its members quit.

The thing is that the less power you have the more likely that there will be consequences you did not want or plan for.

But you would think that to fans of the game (whatever side you're on), getting people to quit would not be a desirable goal.

  14. if someone re-rolled with a similar nation, or made it very clear to see that they were the same person, playing the same person IC, then I guess the PZI carried over could be justified. If someone on a PZI list's reroll nation was found out by their IP address, or even, "hounded" down by their IP, then there is a serious problem.

Yep. Not to mention extremely OOC.
