  1. Alliances need to do a better job of making their treaties accurately reflect actual relationships, especially in the case of an MADP. Here, it is unsurprising that responsible leaders are doing that, and much more remarkable that such a strong treaty lasted nearly two years. It is a credit to the people in all three alliances that it lasted as long as it did, and a credit to a remarkably stable Aqua sphere.

Kudos to MHA, NATO and Fark for stepping back from an MADP and reassessing, and in general to moves away from aggressive treaties.

  2. The Continuum Civil War.

The key aspect of this war, and isn't that what a name is all about, is the infighting between former Continuum alliances. The single most important fact allowing this war to start was the departure of GRE, FOK, Sparta, TOP and MHA from tC, exposing NPO and IRON to sufficient NS in opposition. And you've now got former Q alliances directly in conflict with one another, NPO v. Sparta/FOK, IRON v. GRE/MHA, something unthinkable a year ago.

EDIT: I know someone will say, "but that excludes many of the valiant alliances who fought." While true, the name needs to capture the essence of the war, and I think this does. And you can tell by all the peace outs happening right now, and by knowing who won't peace out --- that those former Q alliances on both sides (plus SF & a few others) are in this for the long haul.

  3. Great to see iClean/Balder back publicly, someone I'm proud to call a friend. Kudos also to Wentworth for a brave post - not much more the guy can do but own his choice, apologize and try to make it right. This is a good step towards resolution, one that might be complete if we could see KMac, Balder and the whole crew back together again. So what about it guys?

  4. Avenger said I should come in here a pick a fight with the guys who knocked them from sanctioned status. Who was it - GGA? TDO? Anyone who knocks my friends from FOK out of sanction are no frien . . . Oh, wait, what? Holy crap. Yeah, forget it Avenger.

    Congrats TOP.

  5. Anu,

Your frustrations are understandable, I know how much you've put into tC and your care for NPO. But I hope that you'll give yourself time and stick around. Things are going to be interesting after the war, and CN would benefit from having you in it. I can say for me personally that I've just pushed through burnout and have really enjoyed the challenge of a new approach.

If not, it has been a pleasure working with you, and I wish you all the best in the future, Anu.

  6. I am clearly among the vast minority willing to wait to judge this with a few days perspective. During the last war, allies of GGA and Valhalla were harshly criticized for following them into war after what was said to be a weak CB. I think we should consider that not all those involved in canceling on NPO are motivated by selfishness, but that concerns over the manner that this war started - an aggressive move during peace discussions against a far weaker foe - played a role. Or even the advice of NPO itself.

While many of us think it more honorable to hold a treaty even in the face of a cause you do not believe in, a decision not to let a bad CB not of your choosing (and perhaps without advance notice or consultation) destroy your alliance may not deserve this harsh of criticism. Would all of you truly be willing to leave your nations, and your alliances, smoldering on the short side of a massive nuclear war in support of this particular CB if there was poor communication about starting the war? And what if that ally told you to do it to save yourselves and preserve strength?

Also, I'm just not sure that another shoe won't drop on this that clarifies somewhat. We'll see. I don't think all their treaties with NPO are dropped . . .

  7. I'm proud to have such strong friendships in MHA. Well done, guys, in a very difficult situation. That you come out of such a hard time with honor and reputation in tact says much of MHA as an alliance and especially about the character of its leadership. MHAil to WCR, Sorum, Crushtania and their wise advisers.

  8. The Continuum Civil War

When it comes right down to it, it was the split of Q that allowed this happen, and it could be the infighting of former Q powerhouses that make it a nuke-fest like CN has never before seen. Too early to say for sure, of course.

  9. Can't we just stop calling the wars "Great War [insert number here]" and use some creativity? Not only would we have the fun of a more descriptive name, we could avoid endless arguments about whether it is or isn't a "Great" war.

Putting my creativity where my mouth is, my vote for the name of coming war is "The Continuum Civil War."

  10. Thank you for this very useful effort. I have recently been looking at CN history a bit more closely and find this helpful. It would be even better if you were able to add a link to the wiki entry for each war. For example, now when you click on Great War I, it says: "Great War I, 15-07-2006 - 01-08-2006." What if you put one more line that was a hotlink to the right wiki article as part of that descriptor?

  11. Congrats to my friends in the Grämlins for doing something new, getting some back collection cash and world-class training to the little guys, setting up some tech sources, and hopefully growing the Grämlins in the process. Having helped managed Grämlins funded back-collections during my time in MHA, I can tell you that they are incredibly useful ways for new nations to grow, and the Grämlins are great teachers.

Good to see you guys branching out, and best of luck.
