    Bacon > beer

I'm tempted to start a war with FARK, which we would lose, so Wicked could force me to comply with surrender terms requiring review of five different bacon dishes for OWF posting. Just in case it happens, I'd better go start my research. Bacon wrapped scallops first up for testing.

  2. Just a quick thank you to Blackwater and the MHA for providing us wonderful homes during the past year. In all honesty, I never thought this day would come, but I'm thankful its finally here.

Onward to endless polls and votes (the real reason NEAT exists)!!! :D

It was a pleasure to have you. Best of luck Ulji and NEAT.

  3. The Minister of Trains' portfolio is one of the most varied portfolios of our ministerial positions. Indeed, it is often said that the Minister of Trains is the backbone of the Archon's cabinet, the linchpin of his grand administrative experiment, the steel embrace of his late-night courtship with that resplendent swan that is the Greenland Republic. He is a mysterious figure, cloaked in legend, bound in destiny and swaddled in mixed metaphor, frothing forth from the bubbly pot that is the heart and soul of every Republican. In the tumultuous early days of the Republic, the Minister of Trains was the rock around which our formless potential, churning in the expansive void, could coalesce. During our darkest hours, the Minister of Trains with his captivating wit and explosive good cheer, insured that those hours were our finest. And today, that fine tradition continues.

That and he runs the trains.

  4. It does, doesn't it? Attacking casualties?

What I'd like to see is how many of the OTHER guy's soldiers you killed. Not how many of one's own soldiers died in attack. Seems like the comparison of one's own soldier deaths to opposing soldier deaths would be a better measure of one's prowess than simply how many of your own guys you sent to their deaths.

  5. Invicta has great leadership, but Argent is quietly developing one of the best approaches to treaties on Bob: Target your treaties towards a specific group, make sure they are built on real and continuing friendships, keep things streamlined, and defend what you have with all your infra. Simple treaty web + loyal, honest bunch = great alliance.

  6. I've wondered how this is managed internally by TPF, NPO and whomever. I totally get the need to protect your nations at those NS where you are going to get stomped, and the need to keep some NS and economic power for the rebuilding. Seems like a smart move if the other guys let you do it.

But within the alliance, who is chosen for "peace mode guy who gets to save his pixels and help us after the war" and who gets picked to be "sacrificial virgin who gets thrown into the volcano to melt infra until we actually get some peace terms or overwhelm them with numbers at 3000 NS."

Unlike the OP, I don't mean this as a dig at all, I get the strategy. It just seems like a tricky thing to pull off as leadership and sell to those in the alliance who weren't picked to be spared and will get pounded to near ZI. I think it says a lot about NPO and TPF member dedication and leadership communication that they are able to do it and not drop members who get frustrated.

  7. Yep, we've all had to take a deep breath and admit that Myth was right all those times.

Honestly, not once - ever - did he give me bad advice. And I say this now because I'm safely in a different AA so I don't have to deal with the insufferably smug consequences of this public acknowledgment. So good luck with him now. :P

What was this thread about? Oh, yeah:

  8. Holy sh*&*. Stonewall is FAN. There are embarrassing logs of me in a "stonewall is a FAN sleeper" thread somewhere staunchly defending him like a guard dog. Will now reevaluate if I still love him like a brother. Until then, he can suck it.

    More anti-gun pron:

  9. Congrats to MHA and to FAN.

Back in December or January, Juju took the initiative to open a FAN embassy in MHA, including a sincere apology, eventually leading, much to my shock and horror, to the realization that he and FAN didn't completely suck balls. Over on our old MHA forums I posted the idea of a black peace that, I'm afraid to say for the sake of my MHA friends, developed in discussion with Juju and I think was a rehash of an even older idea that had been floated before my time. It was shot down, probably because I hadn't come forward with anything as well drafted as what was posted in the OP. (As an alternative, I also suggested continuing to be in a state of war, but stop actually sending spies, soldiers and bombs, calling it a white war - also shot down, probably rightly so.)

Anyway, my point is, and 6 months ago I'd have bet anything against saying it, Juju did one heck of a job in very hostile territory. That said, and in the spirit of the OP, he can suck it. :P

  10. While I was nation sitting for a Dutch friend, I changed his bio to the following:

Majoriti is a nation of syphilitic necrophiliacs who enjoy outdoor cafes, clogs, and, of course, dead people in lingerie. Its ruler was driven insane by the combination of too much oranj and the advanced stages of VD. PM me with links to curing VD and necrophilia. Recruiting messages welcome.

I had quite a few PMs ready for his return, and couldn't decide if it was better to change the bio back, leaving him confused about the PMs, or see how long it took him to figure out the bio had changed. I chose the latter. (To make up for it, I doubled his infra while he was gone by running a well-funded back collection.)

  11. Frankly, we need more losses than this to make CN play as it was intended. With the a prolonged period of peace, CN has become bloated to the point of altering the gameplay. (As two examples among many, given the size of nations, warchests and incomes, the amount of money taken in raids, and even the amount available to send in aid, is irrelevant.) And the numbers you calculate seem large at first blush, but not in comparison to the financial might of CN.

What is amazing, as shown by the War of the Coalition and will likely be shown by NPO after this war, is how quickly these losses can be rebuilt. Despite all the losses to infra, tech, land, rebuilt military, it won't take long to put the money back in the system. Right now there are about 2000 nations over 50k NS, each of whom should be clearing over 5 million per day in profit, some much more. But roughly speaking just those 2000 nations are making $10 billion per day. And that ignores the other 28,000 nations in CN.

Compared to the overall daily income levels, the losses of this war seem like nothing. Its going to take more than these losses to slow down the CN economic freight train.

(Also, hi Doc! Great to see you!)

  12. The Order of the Black Rose showed an impressive blitz in their first military skirmish this week when they declared on Old Guard in defense of the Greenland Republic. The long time independent alliance had one of the most impressive blitzes of the Karma side for their size and seemed to do a good job militarily. Id like to give a tip of my hat to OBR for their impressive attack and show of valor, you guys never cease to impress me with your stature and your commitment to what you see as right.

Thanks, Stumpy, we love you too. Yet another great read, bonus points for the Jack Diorno reference and link that I'd missed.

  13. )): GR )):

You aren't giving GR credit, as was given to UMB and others, for being smart and using peace mode as a military strategy in a nuclear war. GR did the right thing to hold nations in reserve, rotating them in and out of battle. Frankly, the peace mode statistic does very little to provide useful information about the battle. What were the odds against the alliance? Were there lots of targets available? Is the alliance using a tactic of deliberately holding people out to rotate them later? Are there so few slots open in the enemy that you can keep nations out of peace and still be safe?

Too many variables to slight an alliance for peace mode stats. Particularly GR here.

  14. We've met our opponents on the field of battle, and fulfilled our obligations of debt and honor. We have found our opponents to have done no less. Now we shall disengage and repair to the alehouse for some hogsheads of Olde Guardian and Black Rose Ale.

We thank the Order for their honorable terms, and look forward to the future.

Best of luck to friends in Old Guard. I look forward very much to that ale, and to ongoing relations between our two alliances. After raising a glass to our respective leaders, we will toast the Black Sphere, then toast small formidable alliances, then mutual friends in Citadel and beyond, then honorably fought battles, then white peace, then SDI, then . . .
