  1. Story of my youth. In february 2008, I was told to join a trade circle to trade resources. It took me four months before I realised that was a silly thing to do, if one wanted to let her nation grow fast. So, in june 2008, I thought and thought for two days and then deleted all trades and from then on, every 18 (now 20) days, I swapped my trades from best infra/bills to AP + the citizen bonuses. Then, 2 months ago, I was one of the founders of Synergia, the planet's only resource swapping alliance. You're invited to join the alliance, or to join our swapping program.
  2. Contrary to the above, we handle national economics on a more advanced scale. If you want to be a financial powerhouse, here's one way to make a difference: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Synergia/index.php?showtopic=13 Check out how you can make 60...70% more buying power, compared to the best "traditional" growing techniques.
  3. Yeah, me too, after 14 months of single nation swapping, I'll enjoy an alliance wide swap
  4. Aahhrg, the top 10-20 alliances part kills us. Epiktetos, check us out (Synergia), we have superior growth strategies and experienced members.

Preferably, you should back collect. Expected nett extra profit compared to the best trade circle: >60%
  6. Yes, you are missing something. We do not know how large the hotspot is, nor are we interested in how large it is. We only want to know the centre. And that can be calculated without "several people blindly moving around".
  7. Why would you want to be in a trade circle and hurt your nation's growth? http://z3.invisionfree.com/Synergia/index.php?act=idx
  8. If you have a good hotspot calculator: With one moon (Mars) wonder, you have 50% probability to be able to reposition to the hotspot on day 7 and you are able to be on it on day 14. With two wonders, you should be able to be on it on day 1 (50%) or certainly on day 7. The above is true if you have efficiency levels above 50% after repositioning.
  9. Regarding the chase of the hotspot: can we see the position of the other nations?
  10. As ender land says, the main CN problem could be solved: the narrow, almost impossible to get top nations list, can get broader if cost is - Lower basic cost - Infra multiplied cost - Low tech price deduction.
  11. Thanks, I get it, the keywords are My bad, I should have read that.
  12. Is the hot spot only tied to the efficiency of the Mars base, or does it also influence the working of the Mars Mine? If the last is the case, that would need the player to decide: going for the hotspot or for the correct bonus resource. I don't see how one can pick an ideal compromise with only one pick every 7 days and a random change every 30 days. Or, are the bonus resource spots kept at the same location? That would be interesting, you would have to map how far the bonus resource territory goes towards the hotspot direction.
  13. What does that do to my citizens and taxes, why would I want to reset the number? Will there be one or many hotspots?
  14. SYNERGIA We, the founding nations of Synergia, hearby notify everyone of the existence of our alliance of sovereign nations. This alliance is founded on the prospect of making temporary trading a reality for the nations involved in a way that will be non-intrusive to all involved. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please visit us at http://z3.invisionfree.com/Synergia/index.php?act=idx or #Synergia on Coldfront. CHARTER Article 1: Alliance Structure 1.1: Triumvirate The Triumvirate shall be the highest level of government within Synergia. The Triumvirs are elected from those members of the House of Representatives who have served at least a full term; voters are all members of Synergia. Each Triumvir will serve for a term of six months. In order to create continuity in government, every second month another Triumvir's position will be open to a vote. A person will be elected if that person has won a majority of the votes. 1.1.1 Triumvir Succession In the case of a Trivumvir being unable to fulfill his duty to Synergia or being absent for seven days or more without notice, the Speaker of The House shall take his place until the next Triumvir election and The House shall appoint a new member and vote on a new Speaker of The House. In the case a Speaker is unable to be a Triumvir due to not being in the house long enough, the senior house member will be appointed with tie being broke by date joined the alliance 1.2: The House of Representatives The House of Representatives, hereafter named The House, is the second layer of the government structure of Synergia. The Representatives are elected from the general membership; voters are all members of Synergia, including the Triumvirs. The number of members is two times the number of Departments in the alliance. Each Representative will serve for a term of four months. In order to create continuity in government, every second month half the number of the Representatives' position will be open to a vote. A person will be elected if that person has won a majority of the votes. The Triumvirs and The House will allocate two Representatives (Shadow representatives) to each Department, to follow up, inform and where necessary advise the Director. The House has two main functions: it is an advisory council to the Triumvirs and it controls the well working of the Departments. 1.2.1: Speaker of the House The Speaker of the House shall serve as a nominal leader of the House. Members of the House shall elect the Speaker after each House election. The Speaker will cast the tie-breaking vote in cases of ties in the House and any reports the House may need to make to the membership, Directors, or Triumvirs. 1.2.2 House Succession Should a member of The House be unable to fulfill his duty or be absent for seven days or more without notice The House shall immediately set out to appoint a successor to finish the missing members term. Should the missing member in question be The Speaker of The House an election will take place immediatly after the new House member is seated to replace The Speaker. 1.3: Department Directors The Directors are the leaders of the operational Departments in Synergia. All members elect the Directors from general membership. Each Director will serve for a term of four months. In order to create continuity in government, every second month half the number of Directors position will be open to a vote. A person will be elected if that person has won a majority of the votes. Directors are not members of The House. 1.4: Expulsion A member can be expelled by a majority of the Triumvirate or a majority of The House. A Representative can be expelled or demoted by a majority of the House, or by a unanimous decision of the Triumvirate. A Triumvir can be expelled or demoted either a majority of the House plus two Triumvirs or a 75% vote of the House and of the membership 1.5: Military support to the alliance No member will be allowed to run or get elected for any position, if it does not comply with the military minimum requirements as posted by the Director of Defense and unanimously accepted by the Triumvirs. Article 2: Voting procedures and legislation creation All voting procedures done by the general membership of Synergia take 48 hours, unless otherwise specified. All voting procedures done by The House of Synergia take 48 hours, unless otherwise specified. All voting procedures done by the Triumvirs take place as soon as the necessary voters are available, or 24 hours maximum. Any voter not placing a vote within the specified time frame will be considered absent and will not count towards the vote. The Triumvirate will decide any vote ending in a tie. 2.1: Voting Procedure for offices of Synergia Elections shall occur in Synergia at the time the charters calls for. In the case more than one election falling during the same time, the following is how the elections shall take place. 72 hours before voting, nominations for Triumvirs shall start. After the 72 hours elapse, a 48 hour poll shall be opened for voting. During this same time, nominations for Representatives shall open for 72 hours. Then when this closes, a 48 hours poll for Representatives will be opened. At this time, a 72 hour nomination for Directors will open. Once this period is over, a 48 hour poll will follow. 2.1.1: Nominations Any member of Synergia can nominate someone who qualifies for office, for that office. Unless the member nominated specifically accepts the nomination, it will be assumed he/she has declined the opportunity to run for office. Members may also nominate themselves if they would like to run for office. Article 3: Departments Departments shall be lead by Directors who will be responsible for everyday running and organization of their Department. Directors may appoint one or more Deputy Directors, from any member rank. Deputy Directors shall work under their Director to aid in the everyday operations of the Department. 3.1: The different departments 3.1.1: Department of Trade and Recruitment The main goal of this department is to organize the trade resource swapping. It will maintain a trade reservation thread and will oversee the coordination of the swaps. It will also steer the recruiting efforts as to supply the necessary resources needed for the successful trading. This department will also set up temporary trade circles for new members not having reached the 1K infra or for members indicating the need for a temporary trade circle due to a (short) period of inactivity (vacation,...). 3.1.2: Department of Defense This department will set the guides of military build up and will check the compliance of members with it, when such members want to run for a position. The department will handle all wars between individual nations. The department will set up and organize a roster. The department will supply war guides. 3.1.3: Department of Finance This department will organize the financial matters of the alliance, more specifically, it will handle grants and loans and it will set up tech deals for the alliance members. 3.1.4: Department of Information This department will gather intelligence about the Cyber Nations world and establish relations with other alliances. The department is also responsible for all member related intelligence. The Department of Information will create a nation building information center and where necessary provide mentors. Periodically, it will advise members on the growth of their nations. Article 4: Oversight of the Departments 4.1: If a Director steps down or is absent without notification for more than seven days, the Triumvirs will assign the Department to one of the Representatives that shadow the missing Director. The Triumvirs will select a new Representative, whose position will be open for voting at the next election. No new Director will be assigned, if the Director went missing during the last seven days of his term. 4.2 If a Representative or a Triumvir believes that a Director's actions are not in the best interests of the alliance, he may move to overrule him. After a 48 hours debate, a vote will take place and Triumvirs and Representatives decide by majority. If the Director will be replaced, Triumvirs and Representatives will assign one of the Shadow Representative to the vacant Directorial position. Article 5: Membership 5.1: Joining Synergia is an invitational alliance and sends out membership invitations. Nevertheless, we may consider membership requests. All potential members are required to not be in any current wars and complete the sign up form in the applicants thread. Synergia is under no obligation to accept new applicants, nor does it have to justify membership refusal. 5.2: Membership Once a member is accepted, it has the full rights and benefits of the alliance. Members under 1000 infra are not obliged to take part in the trade swap program, but they are encouraged to join the trade-training program. Within 24 hours after their acceptance, members must change their alliance affiliation to Synergia. 5.3: Color Synergia is mainly an Aqua alliance, but due to the nature of the alliance, members are allowed to change team colors, if deemed necessary by the Director of Trade, to fulfill export of trade resource swaps. 5.4: Leaving Synergia At any time a member may leave Synergia, as long as all obligations connected to acceptance of grants or payments are fulfilled. Members leaving the alliance have no more free access to the trading system. Article 6: Charter Amendments 6.1: Triumvir and Representative proposal If at least one Triumvir and one Representative feel the Charter is in need of an amendment, they may jointly sponsor a Bill to The House detailing the desired amendments. Any Bill not sponsored shall not be open to debate, voting, or ratification. 6.2: Member proposal Any member may petition The House to amend the Charter. To be brought to The House the member/s seeking to amend the charter must draft a Bill and submit it with the number of signers totaling ΒΌ of the current membership or 15, excluding Directors, Triumvirs and Representatives. 6.3: Debating and Voting When a proposed Bill or petition to amend the charter has met the requirements for submission it will move into debate. Debaters will be the people proposing, the Representatives and the Triumvirs, debating period will be 4 days, after which Representatives will vote. 6.4: Ratification Should the proposed amendment receive the required 2/3 majority in he House, the amendment will move to The Triumvirate, where another vote is opened for 24 hours. A unanimous approval is necessary in order to ratify the amendment. If the amendment is ratified, it is implemented immediately. Article 7: Synergia and war 7.1: Alliance Stance Synergia is a peaceful alliance that believes that by limiting warfare, our nations shall prosper. It does not support first striking. 7.2: Defense Even though Synergia does not believe in first strike, it retains all rights to defend its members. This includes all forms of warfare including nuclear weapons as described in 7.3. The sitting Director of Defense will be in charge of all matters when it comes to the defense of Synergia. 7.3: Nuclear Weapons Synergia does not believe nuclear weapons should be used in a first strike method. However, if a member of Synergia is hit with a nuclear weapon, return fire is authorized. The first strike policy can be voided by a unanimous vote by both The House and Triumvirate. 7.4: Treaties and pacts Synergia does believe in the treaties and pacts it creates with other alliances and will stand behind any treaty or pact it agreed to. Treaties need a simple majority in the House. 7.5: Inter alliance wars Synergia will only declare an inter alliance war after a unanimous decision of the Triumvirs. Peace agreements must be agreed to by both a majority of Triumvirs and the House. 7.6: Other The practice commonly known as "Tech Raiding" will not be allowed by Synergia. Nor will the sentences of PZI or EZI be used as all can play the game unless almighty admin decides otherwise. If a nation declares war without specific DoD/Triumvir approval, they shall have a 48 hour period to give their case followed by a Triumvir vote. Article 8: The beginning 8.1: For the first six months, the Triumvirate will consist of Hefe4711, Rabidman and Kippa Tarxien. At the end of six months, the first seat on the Triumvirate will be open for election. 8.2: The House of Representatives will not be filled until membership grows to over 15 members. At that point in time, every month, two members will be added. The nomination for members of the House of Representatives will become open and members can send their nominations to the Triumvirate. 16. I have a ratio of 34.31, a similar infra level to Gen Lee: I have 7080, he has slightly less. My income is 10.681M and bills are 3.66, looking at Gen Lee, you'll see that he makes 1.2M more than me and that is caused by the 8 eco wonders he has, while I only have 3, so the ratio story doesn't hold unless you take the wonders in the calculation. I can only keep up with his 5 extra wonders because I pay bills/buy infra with Lumber, Coal, Iron, Marble, Uranium, Rubber, Aluminium and Oil and collect taxes with AP, MC and sugar/cattle/wheat
  17. Let me explain that first. I started my former post with the setup from the 'In tech I trust: should I ?' topic, where Techland had 5000 Tech and 5000 Infra and Infraland had 2000Tech and 10000 Infra. I did the ZI calculations (see former post above) and Infraland won, even with both having a SDI. That made me do the calculation again, with only Techland having a SDI and again Infraland won. I wondered what would happen if Infraland had no tech at all and see, again Infraland won. To really make my point, I posted that last calculation. But let's be fair: if Infraland is all infra and no tech and can't replace military stuff, then Techland should also not have any infra and wouldn't be able to replace anything either ($$$?). Okay, up to the rest of the post. I am so happy, that there is someone willing to do the work and do the calculations instead of blindly stating something based on nothing. So, thank you Syzygy for the work put into it. The post suggested that it was an answer to my post, by the fact of quoting it at the top. Well, it isn't an answer to the question"What ratio". By changing the problem parameters (adding the warchest) it came to a different outcome. And that makes this post more a plea for a good warchest (Which I completely agree with). But without the warchest, similar results to mine would be found as per my calculation: Infraland wins, which changes the answer to the question of tech/infra ratio. Now let us look at a more realistic set up: - Techland (5000T,5000I) and Infraland (2000T, 10000I) - Most of the 5000 infra nations don't have a Manhattan Project, while all the 10000 infra have one. I'll give Techland a Manhattan Project, or the fight would be over real quick. Let's give Techland a magical MP. - I couldn't find a 5000 infra nation with a SDI, I checked about ten nations, I also couldn't find a 10KI nation without a SDI. So, in a realistic setup, Techland fights without a SDI and Infraland with a SDI. Is it worth doing the math on who is going to win? I don't know, but it doesn't look too good for Techland. Let's give Techland a magical SDI. - The warchest: while it looks generous, giving Techland 250M and Infraland even 500M, it isn't. Both warchests are created by the nation's own income and infraland makes X times the money Techland makes. Let us see at the number given for Techland. A warchest from 250,000,000 for a nation making nett 700,000 would mean that if Techland start saving today, it is ready to start the war on december 14th, 2009 (By that time Infraland built a 3,500,000,000 $ warchest, enough for the Forever War) . A warchest of 357 days seems a bit unrealistic, (it would even work contraproductive, Reader: how large was your nation december 2007?) so lets put it on 60 days of saving. That gives Techland 42M and Infraland (I'm just guessing, I don't know what a 10K infra nation makes nett: 8M/day, 10M? Idk, somebody help me out) 480...600M. The calculations themselves. - Infralands upkeep is said to be 12M, Syzygy calculators don't have an upkeep function unfortunately, so I used mrfixit, they said 5.6M, even if that calculator is outdated, 12M seems to be heavily exagerated. - We shall have to take into account tech losses. They will hurt Techland much more, replacing all that expensive tech will take up huge amounts of money, the alternative being to accept lower damaging power for Techland. Infraland, has much lower tech levels and can buy tech at more reasonable prices. The usual 3M/100T is out of the question, who will want to sell tech to a nation in a war and be dragged into the conflict? - The income from taxes. First: the SDI reduces succesfull nuke attacks with 60%, that means that you have 60% to not be anarchied on a given day, or it means that the probability of getting two days without being nuked is 36%, three days: 21.6%, 5 days of safety will only happen once every 12 periods. So, after 30 days (6*5 days), both will collect 20 days of income, 60 days later another 20 days and so on. The income from Infraland is many times Techlands income, which means that the war will last much longer than 70 days, which in turn means that the funds of Techland may be evaporated long before that (I don't know that, it needs to be calculated, I said "may"). I'm (+/-) willing to try to do all the calculations and publish them if somebody is really interested and can answer the following questions: - Income and bills of a xK infra nation (x from 10 to 6, I have all the rest in the logs of my nation). - Tech loss during attacks and influence of attacker and defender on the battle result. - A strategic decision on Techlands strategy concerning tech replacement? Replace or not? Conclusions thus far: - I expect we will end with a plane in a threedimensional XYZ system with X= Infra/Tech ratio for Techland, Y= Infra/Tech ratio for Infraland and Z=Warchest. One side of the plane will be situations with Techland winning and one side Infraland. For both, I can give extreme situations where one of the two wins, so there must be a point/line/plane where there is a draw. It may even be a four dimensional map if NS is of importance (And I fear it is). But I could be wrong of course. - Buy tech, it ain't that expensive at 3M/100T, don't buy from CN, use that money to buy infra.
  18. Okay, I did the math: Nation T with 5000T and 3000 Infra has 40000NS and a WRC Nation I with 40000NS has 13333 Infra and no tech at all, nor a WRC. T gives 500 Infra blows and ZI Nation I in 27 days I gives 250 infra blows and ZI Nation T in 12 days
  19. Okay, so the main objection is that it is impossible to create an Infraland of the same NS as a Techland in the timeframe and the financial situation in which Techland gets created. I disagree. Here's why, I use the excellent website http://www.cn-utilities.com/ (Thank you Syzygy). I use the infra calculator, start at zero infra, have all the correct resources, 5 factories and no wonders, click 'Submit' and in the new window I type 10,000 levels of infra. Cost 1044 Million. Now the tech cost: Gold and microchips, 2 Uni's make 5000 levels of tech cost +/- 1600 Million. Conclusion, buying tech from CN will make Infraland easily overpower you, Infraland has 500M left! So that's a no-go. Other strategy: buy it at 3M/100T through tech sellers. Problem: 5000T takes you 250 days, at that time, Infraland should be able to gather enough funds to buy the 10000-2000 (Techlands infra) levels of infra. How difficult is that? 8000 infra is 24000NS, on 250 days is efficiency less than 100 (We all know that is achieveable). Even to get the 2000 tech, that would only cost an extra 30M, peanuts. Infraland can build a same NS nation, no problem.
  20. I believe a strategy to buy tech up to 0.05 times the nation strength can be defended, using the argument of infra upkeep reduction. But above that, I'm not sure if there's any other reason to buy tech than to meet the requirements for certain wonders. If I mention my doubts somewhere, there's always someone who points out the military advantages that a good tech level offers and that's exactly the reason of this post. Here's my problem. Let's create two nations, Techland, heavily investing in tech and Infraland, built on infra. Both are 40K nation strength. Techland has 5000 Infra and 5000 Tech while Infraland has 10000 Infra and 2000 Tech They now start nuking each other (imagine they have some extra nation strength to get the nukes) When Techland attacks, a nuke damages Infraland badly: 150 + 150*0.01*Tech/100 or 150 + 150*0.01*5000/100 or 150 + 75 = 225 infra lost Infraland's attacks are far less devastating: 150 + 150*0.01*Tech/100 or 150 + 150*0.01*2000/100 or 150 + 30 = 180 infra lost Now here's what happens: Techland has 5000 infra and loses 180 infra/day, which means that on day 28 Techland is in ZI status. Infraland has 10000 infra and loses 225 infra/day, which means that it is on ZI status, on day 45. But since Techland is ZI'ed two and a halve weeks earlier, Infraland easily wins the war. This isn't an isolated case because of the numbers I took. Here are the generalized formula's Formula one calculates the infra level (I) depending on nation strength (NS) and tech level (T) I = (NS - 5*T)/3 Formula two gives the damage given, the Infra lost (IL): IL = 150 + (150*T*0.01/100) The days a nation survives before being ZI'ed are given by I/IL If T increases, the numerator I gets smaller and the denominator IL increases. In a fraction, that means that the result gets smaller, which means that the more tech, the less days you have before being ZI'ed. Where did I go wrong? Or should I say: "In tech I trust, but not a lot?"
  21. I need buyers for standard 3x3, 1 cycle tech deals: 3M, 100T Deal is organised by our alliance, so you're sure you'll get your tech. Your nation will be refused if it is at war, or member of an alliance that is at war.
