Protip: publicly announcing gag orders = bad idea. All of the gagged person's opponents come out with free reign to say whatever they can think of in an attempt to bait the gagged party into getting expelled. This should definitely be a back-channel deal. Anybody who needs to know freelance_r's been gagged could have been PM'd on the subject. The rest of us probably wouldn't notice so much.
If the person was trolling to a great extent (I don't know as I've been gone for a bit), I would say it is a good idea to show the Cyberverse that the alliance is indeed a responsible one that does not allow its members to run crazy on the boards.

Treaties are just pieces of paper. What matters are the relationships underlying those treaties. If an alliance has a strong relationship with its MDP partner, it will want to help them no matter what the wording of the treaty is. If there is no relationship beyond the treaty itself, the MDP partner will try to weasel out of its obligation no matter what the wording of the treaty is.
Treaties don't start wars, or even expand them. People do.
I am currently wondering why the thread did not end after Philosopher's post.

~ side: STA- we pwned. We lost a few members, gained 12k NS and kicked a lot of Genmay nations to the ground. We took nukes and still--awesome. In the 5 wars my nation has against it (all of which were Genmay) Never once did I get into anarchy so Genmay is not the UJP MVP's. From what I heard, \m/ gets the UJP award.

I one fought Gen[m]ay, who was so outnumbered that it's quite understandable that they would not be as effective as normal. I am honestly not sure who to give the 'best fighter' tip-o-the-hat to, because of lack of experience against those alliances.

You are not a Gen[m]ay member last time I checked due to being a nuclear rogue. However, you make an announcement, and Gen[m]ay government decides that you speak for the alliance, thus the government is effectively supporting a nuclear rogue.
