Personally, these days I take an old-man-on-the-porch approach to CN politics, but I agree with this post. Everyone in CyberNations love to hate us, and it's never going to change with some no matter how hard we try. For the rest of you, come stop by.

*chuckles* Yup. You don't preach to the choir or peach to the damned. You just lose your voice. You preach to the people you can save.

Spoke to me after the fact. Although I've long since said the best move would have been to cancel the NPO treaty then stay in alongside our friends who were to be stuck in the war anyways.

In any case, the whole smear campaign is played out beyond played out, and it is doing nothing but making you guys look more and more petty, so have at it hoss.

No, I spoke to you the same night the negotiations failed, and a day before you pulled out of the war.

It seems you're still obsessed over your fictional story of events. I guess their strings are still snug on you after all. Lucky for us, our friends know better.

Came in here to say this. Eventually it came back at them (both).

Fixed the quote tag to more correctly indicate who was speaking. :)
    [/quote]

He could channel me if he wishes.

I spoke to Bigwoody that night. Bigwoody knew every single bit of the plan. It was rather simple. We would all have a ceasefire because of the dropped internet connection of Moo during the negotiation session of the night prior.

But Bigwoody, either because he's an idiot or a coward, let himself get played by Archon into withdrawing. Whether it was out of some noble fear to keep TORN from being attacked or simply abject stupidity, I could not say. However, he's persisted in perpetuating this lie, perhaps because he feared the damage to his own reputation or perhaps to his alliance's as a whole, for more than a year since that went down.

If you want to engage me on this issue, hit me up on query.

You dont have the force to gun for us in game at the moment, and it probably would be a bad strategy to just run on an old feud you may have had in the past. Having said that, reading NPO posts which concern NPO-TORN, you do in fact attack us.

And no, I dont think NPO is the bad guy, until I can be otherwise convinced though, they are the enemy. But I guess they have to line up :P
    [/quote]

I believe silentkiller gave a better response than I. I have nothing but contempt for bigwoody, and I have nothing against the rest of the people in your alliance, or your alliance as a whole.

You'd think we weren't in an OOC forum...

Anyways, no NPO isn't evil...for that matter neither is anyone in Supergrievances, my side, other alliances, whatever. Maybe a few individuals are genuinely evil, but I can't name any off the top of my head.

NPO is self-interested. They want to be top dog, whatever the in-game cost, and there is nothing evil about that in a game like this one. I suppose to many that indeed makes them evil IC, hell, to my own alliance that they are openly gunning for, that makes them IC evil. But it is a matter of perspective that few seem to keep in mind.

If you're so tied into events here that you really consider certain alliances truly evil in an OOC sense just because you're opposed to them, I am afraid you may have some serious issues.
    [/quote]

You're [i]very[/i] deluded, bigwoody, if you think we're openly gunning for you. I will not hide my contempt for you as an individual, but to think that we wish to do anything to your alliance smacks more of your own egotism than anything about my own alliance's desires.

[b][size=5][color="#FF0000"]Retirements of Imperial Officers Millionario & Brehon, Goodbye to Retired Imperial Officer Lord Strider, and the Appointment of Red to Imperial Officer for Internal Affairs[/color][/size][/b][/center]

It is with great sadness that I must announce that Imperial Officer Millionario has asked to retire. Millionario and I came up in the New Pacific Order together, from the great economic organs of Pacifica, he from the mighty Pacific Bank and I from the Technology Corps. We were appointed Imperial Officers by Imperator Emeritus TrotskysRevenge on the same day, at the dawn of the Armageddon War. The modern Pacific Bank his successors will inherit will always bear the mark of Millionario's hard work.

I do also announce that Retired Imperial Officer Lord Strider has left the New Pacific Order. A Retired Imperial Officer, Lord Strider provided his wisdom and his counsel to two Emperors, and we wish him the best as he goes out into the world.

With deep regret that I announce that Imperial Officer Brehon has been appointed to the position of Retired Imperial Officer. Brehon's efforts in Internal Affairs is a testament to his dedication, loyalty and wisdom given to Pacifica. From his work during the break up of the Special Community Service to his tireless efforts with the Revolutionary Council, as well as his most recent work in the Charter Amendment having just passed, his presence as an active Imperial Officer will be missed.

I do anticipate and hope that both Officers Emeritus will continue to counsel me, my Imperial Officers, and all Pacificans with their wisdom and great knowledge of Pacifica.

In view of Brehon's retirement, I am pleased to appoint Red to the position of Imperial Officer for Internal Affairs. Red has led the reformation of the Mentor Corps and the tight integration of the Pacifican experience that we see today. Her service on the Council has been exemplary in the modern era, as well as her extensive knowledge of military matters as a Colonel in High Command. Though undoubtedly her services in the military will be missed, I am confident in saying that I have nothing but the highest expectations for her performance in the governance of the Internal Affairs of the Order.

    Hail the Body Republic!

    Hail the New Pacific Order!

This is an interesting approach. It's probably about as good as you can get without being totally subjective about it.

I think the experience of Citadel and Continuum should show you why that wouldn't be a fair reflection. The total number of treaty partners is a good approach, I think; a bloc doesn't make alliances immune to disagreements and that means that 'splitting' the value is fair.
    [/quote]

It does seem to make the most sense.

The more alliances in a bloc, the less stable it becomes, as you add a more diverse mix of alliances' interests and goals into the collective. Thus, the larger the bloc, the less stable it is.

I believe the idea behind counting treaties is the same principle: if an alliance was only allied to one other alliance, that is a very stable foreign policy: more alliances is more divided, etc., etc.

Are you guys just arguing for the sake of arguing now?

"Ah. I'd like to have an argument, please."

"Certainly sir. Have you been here before?"

"No, I haven't, this is my first time."

"I see. Well, do you want to have just one argument, or were you thinking of taking a course?"

DOE, declare war on ARES...to me that is a rogue alliance and not a legitimate alliance v alliance war. I was asked to assist in taking on your nation because I was online on IRC so I accepted. Yes, it is inconsistent with what my OP states but oh well.

My main point remains that this game is full of talking and very little in game action. I do agree with what some have said that the talk helps build up what the next war will be about but as has also been said the treaty web prevents anything from happening besides once or twice a year. View the in game list of the top 200 alliances and randomly pick any one of them and you can see the activation of a treaty should it come under attack which activates another and another etc until a full blown world war is raging. Good for the game to have one major war per year or would it be better to let or have a lessoned treaty web where alliances can go alliance v alliance and settle disputes without having to do silly (IMO) newsletters. NSO/CSN is one example. NPO does the same thing going after Athens at times in their PNN announcments. Neither can really do anything 1v1 because it wouldn't stay a 1v1 because a world war would break out. NPO has the numbers to take on Athens but not the numbers to take on CnG/SF.

I doubt anyone is really happy with the situation of only one major event per year. That is not something that will sustain this game long term.
    [/quote]

The NPO doesn't attack any alliance in the Pacific News Network's Pacific Press because we want to go to war with them. We attack them in our newsletter because they do stupid !@#$.

If you like history, you might like [i]Diplomacy[/i] by Henry Kissinger. It's enrapturing.

If you like Henry Kissinger, you might like [i]The Trial of Henry Kissinger[/i] by Christopher Hitchens. Although he's rather crazy now, Hitchens wrote a pretty good book.

[img]http://forums.cybernations.net/uploads/gallery_12_5_15297.png[/img] - New Pacific Order (NPO)

This one surprised me a little because I always figured that NPO MilCom was more traditionalist and would still be going with leather-soled jackboots to get that ominous clacking every serious infantry needs on a paved surface.
