This is true, when I first joined CN I was raided by someone much larger than me (A whole 1000 NS! :P). It was rather disheartening to log in one afternoon and find my nation in ruins. I was days into the game. I had no clue at all the scope of time nation building plays out in (and you thought Eve Online skill training took patience) I didn't understand why I'd been attack, or who was coming after me. It was long long before warchest, hell it was before the idea of even back collecting.

But then my alliance explained to me about raiding, sent me money (400k! Holy !@#$ I was rich!) and walked me trough how to kick some raider ass. Unbeknownst to me, they had obviously engaged in some diplomacy on the side as well to get him cleared for counter attack.

That got me active, curious and involved. I had to get on IRC to get war instructions, and damn if I never ever got off IRC after that. Seriously I think I've been logged off IRC longer than the time it takes to reboot maybe twice in the last year. When the world goes quiet and nothing is happening on the OWF, IRC is alive and well. This game would have vanished years ago without the IRC. There are dozens, if not hundreds of incidents that never make it off IRC, or involve many hours of IRC but result in 5 minute OWF announcements. And if those are not enough you always have your friends to kick back with and just shoot the !@#$.

There are several players who just don't bother with their nation at all, because its a side show, your infra farm is a means to an end, not the goal. I build my nation so that I may be a force to be reckoned with should I be called to war, but buying a wonder every 30 days and importing tech as I can isn't exactly exciting. You know whats exciting? Sitting in back channels on the eve of war, tabbing back and forth from the forums looking for DoW's while you scan a half dozen channels on IRC trying to keep up with rumors, and dealing with your own government duties at the same time as the member only channel explodes to 5 times its usual population and its all people with questions, people who were silent till war broke out but now everybody needs instructions at once. All the while screaming at the CN login page because its 4 minutes till update and the 10,000 people hammering f5 just brought the sever to its knees.

I'm getting a buzz just talking about it.

I too got involved in alliances through a raid.

I was just enjoying myself, sitting on Red. An RL friend of mine got raided. I figured, what the heck, I'll help him out. Lo and behold it was FAN, and I was triple nuked by them for retaliating on the raider. Skip ahead a few years, and here I am.

Your analysis of MK and Umbrella's raiding is too superficial. GOONS, as an alliance with a low ANS, has more targets than either MK or Umbrella. If there was a (good) raid target in our range, people would jump on it.
You misapprehend the argument. It's not that MK/Umbrella lack targets, it's that they lack targets whom they could raid that would be profitable. A high NS nation cannot be profitably raided, almost by definition, because if the nation is active enough to get a high NS, it's high enough to fight back from your raid, thereby making your raid unprofitable.

Now, if you're not raiding to gain individual national monetary profit, but rather some sort of political reason, then sure, you can throw away a lot of money and time raiding high NS nations, but no one pretends you make money off of it, or that it is often properly called a "raid."

It's flattering that you think I am holding the strings for so many. Especially nowadays.

You'd be amazed the depths we fight to for allies that don't try and throw us under the bus. Ask people who fought us in the last war. Outnumbered for sure, but fighting like hell all the way until our allies were out.

You kids can guess which one is more representative, but it is a silly argument. So is the whole thing about NPO wanting a shot at us. It's kind of a known fact that you do, and you don't have to obsess about us every day for it to be true. However, if you want to talk about wedges between the various "ex-Hegemony" factions, anyone with any sense sees our little falling out and your alliance's actions since then is one of the biggest ones.
The only thing I've stated is that in April 2009 you lied to your people, because you got played.

I don't pretend to know if you hold the strings, because I don't care. I got nothing against TORN, bigwoody. Your alliance, when I knew them at all, was a good one and one I was proud to be allied with.

  5.
LOL thank you for proving my point. You would like a shot at them and that was all i was getting at.

oh of course you dont care cortath that is why you and Bilrow both have been here. Now i await Moo and the trifecta shall be complete.Never said NPO was our enemy either just that if you had the oppurtunity you wouldnt pass it up. Branimir confirmed it above and im pretty sure were in that area of influence.
Nah, any good watcher of the OWF knows that I'm pretty easy to bait to post by having some of bigwoody's people spew some BS. *chuckles*

  6.
To invent something that is not there. NPO hates TORN and the feeling is mutual. Valhalla while hate may be a bit strong of a word, has no fondness of NPO. To say we live in fear or are scared of you is to attempt to give yourself much more credit than you deserve. Interestingly enough responding to you is giving you credit as well shame on me.
I really don't get it. The NPO cares about a lot of things. Your alliances are not among them. I admit, I have no love for bigwoody, whose lies to his alliance and actions in April 2009 are pretty well known on the OWF at this point. But to think us so petty as to hold it against the lot of you is to think rather poorly of an alliance you now claim is your enemy. That is usually a mistake.

    Closure of Embassy

The New Pacific Order is not an alliance that cares for pettiness or provocation. In light of the actions of the Mushroom Kingdom during the course of the past several months, highlighted by their most recent behavior in their Embassy on our forums, we no longer care to grant them the privilege to maintain an outpost on our soil from which to launch attacks. We do close their embassy. Should they wish to engage in amicable diplomacy, they know where to find us.

Well, I do hope this was not under the belt from my part -_- . I was just wondering whether it's the author's will or the reception that counts more. Let me give you an example: calling the state of emergency a "dictatorship" can have disastrous effects on the final form of an originally progressive revolutionary movement... In the same way, calling the pacifican way "francoist", which refers to a very specific ideology from another realm, could have similar effects, unintentionally.

    But that's all trivial really.
You incorrectly conflate the applications of Francoism to that other realm and the applications here.

In all fairness, NPO guys are about as serious as they come. I see far more serious/angry posts from NPO members than sarcastic.

But to address the OP. Any conflict involving NSO won't amount to much, as all their allies always seem to back out and say NSO told them not to defend them. I hardly imagine NSO getting defended even if someone DoW'ed them with the CB: "Just because." I know NPO wouldn't unless they could win. Although maybe the IC/Brown/Purple allies would. It's funny to think FEAR, NATO, Invicta, etc have more balls than the 'legendary' NPO though. 2010 sure isn't 2007-08.
Who says these things? I chuckle, don't I?

  10.
Well, from what the Emperor of the NSO said just a little while ago, MK has been paid in full with $3mil and 50 tech. So I guess the government of MK has decided that is sufficient.
By "paid in full" then does that mean MK wants nothing more?

I think my point still stands: if that's the case, that members of the Mushroom Kingdom see fit to spend time justifying money that their government no longer wants speaks quite a bit as how many of them view their place in the world.

  11.
well, i don't actually care about the amount to be paid. i actually don't care about any of this. i just think it's funny that the drama queens at NSO made a big bad thread because one of their "ghosts" did this and this, but he was magically masked as a member blah blah. come on guys, you can do better th--- wait... no you can't.

    carry on lol
I'd think you'd care about this in that it says something pretty profound about the state of the government of the Mushroom Kingdom. This situation is easily resolvable and it's within their power to resolve it. They just have to decide if the negative PR is worth the 15M that was never really rightfully theirs to demand (or "negotiate"). That they have not resolved it speaks volumes either of their current view of the world or the effectiveness and makeup of their government.

    [edit for typos]

NSO trying to cut a member and letting them get rolled is not reasonable. Making NSO man up to its members is about the only good response you can give.

Interesting to see you come out and post, LS.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

Now since you can't take justice for past crimes out against the NPO, you are projecting them on to NSO.

Hey look, you found a way to make this thread about the NPO! It is like Godwins Law of CN. Eventually every thread becomes about the NPO.
Ooh, ooh, I'm here now, Airme! What evil have we done here that I must right?

I believe, unless this banner belongs to multiple Francos, that the apostrophe is in the wrong place

But yeah, really don't understand the reasoning behind this purchase (you must have too much money).
It depends on how you view the punctuation. The name is "Francos Spain." Some grammatical manuals would say that the possessive would be Francos's while other says Francos'

It really all depends on what style manual you're adhering to.

  14. Did anyone catch where he was supposed to kiss the "Emperor's ankle strap"?

I have an ankle strap? Why do I have one? Am I under house arrest? If I am Hitler, can't I get someone to take off my ankle strap? What is it connected to? Is it connected to ... fascism?

I want to get to the bottom of this ankle strap thing.
