The Fall of Stability

Michael McBride

Recommended Posts

The ultimatum has been extended indefinitely due to the recent peace talks in the Holy American Empire. FRG shall send representation at once as we truly wish to avoid bloodshed over Florida.

***

The last of the troops had arrived in Florida, bringing the total number of FRG troops to 320,000. Main cities such as Miami, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale, and Tallahassee were secured by FRG forces, arresting most of the remaining few rebels. For the most parts the cities were now free and people were attempting to rebuild their lives, albeit with the limited communication they still had. Construction and electrical engineering were the two main business currently running. Construction crews were working around the clock to repair damaged structures while engineers worked to replace the circuitry of Florida, much of it fried and unusable.

These people were being paid by the recently formed Transitional Florida Government , run by a group of former Pravus Ingruo local politicians and political science lawyers that did not leave for various reasons. These people were tasked with starting to rebuild the government structure of Florida, pay the work crews, recruit volunteers for police forces especially in the major cities, and help set-up the upcoming elections.

Former policemen have been returning back to police stations to resume work and help the FRG troops control the state of anarchy at the moment. They help patrol the streets, including scaring off looters, and help the FRG distribute aid. Tons of humanitarian aid has been pouring in and is being given away at Authorized Aid Distribution Centers, located around the state.

The Provisional Government has agreed to hold the upcoming elections and be dissolved after the announcement of the new governor. Any citizen of Florida is eligible to run and so far three people have formally submitted paperwork. Charlie Crist represents the newly formed Republican Party, Jim Davis represents the newly formed Democratic Party, and Atlee Yarrow represents the newly formed Socialist Party. Members of the transitional government with the protection of FRG troops have been setting up polling precincts across the state. Tahoe troops are not allowed to interfere with this process. Florida is in the process of rebuilding, and most citizens agree it is the right time to elect a leader to help guide them. Poll watchers are more than welcome to come to Florida and ensure that there is no voting fraud and all the results are legitimate.

The provisional government also released a statement to the citizens telling them how to deal with foreign occupiers (used to describe Tahoan or FRA troops). Citizens are suggested to not make eye contact and not speak with these troops. It is preferable to just ignore them and continue with your normal daily activities. Be weary, however it is extremely unlikely they would attack unarmed civilians.

"Greater Pacifica recognizes this new transitional FRG government, and marvels at the measures the FRG force has taken to represent and serve the people of Florida. The legal legitimacy secured by the uncovered paperwork, combined with the FRG's efforts to prove its own status as an American Nation, its humanitarian efforts, and now its efforts to take leadership to secure the future of Florida is wholly outstanding. For Tahoe and the FRA to continue to continue to do what they are doing is nothing short of socially irresponsible, and inherently disruptive to the lives of the Floridian people... not to mention the stability of the region.

We also wonder, if the FRG is too foreign to adequately serve the intrest's of the Floridian people, then how could Tahoe, a culturally and more or less ethnically homogeneous nation, composed of Gaelic speaking Irish Catholics be capable of representing the people of Florida (or to take it a step further, the whole of America itself)? Isn't Tahoe in all but geography, just as foreign to the people of Florida if not more so than the FRG? If a handful of cities in Europe is enough to disqualify the FRG from claiming status as an American nation, then why isn't the alien nature of Tahoe's society as well as its own foreign holdings an automatic disqualifier of its claim to the mantle of the American cause? If the FRG is too close diplomatically to Europe, then why doesn't Tahoe's past and present tight nit relationships with Germany/Nordland/Prussia, and Transvaal make Tahoe just as un-american. The only thing that separates the FRG, and Tahoe in terms of being 'American' or not is the fact that in this case Tahoe is both making the rules and acting as arbiter. Both of which are endemic to the fact that Tahoe is simply another regional hegemon working to secure its own regional interests." - Thomas Devereaux, High Magistrate

OOC: Thank Pravus, edited that bit. IC:

The pre-election details were running smoothly. The majority of precincts had been set up around the country, the majority of which were obviously in the major cities. A few FRG soldiers and newly formed Florida police were stationed at each poll to ensure that there would be no violence or fraudulent results. Florida citizens were being reminded that they needed to be 18 years or older and have some piece of identification to vote.

The election was only a few days away, and the three main hopefuls increased their TV and radio ads and increased their visitation to large cities, holding rallies and inciting the crowds.

A voter pamphlet was published that listed the major candidates and their various positions, to be used for voters that were unclear on a particular matter.

Charlie Crist - Republican Party -

Death Penalty: FOR

Abortion: AGAINST

Gay Marriage: AGAINST

Environmental Legislation: FOR

Crist's main goal is to transition the state from completely government run to the reformation of private industries and sectors. For example, he would like to turn control of public utilities from the state to private companies and rebuild the capitalist economy, using it to help rebuild Florida. By quickly getting government out of major industries and back to leading the state, people should be able to get jobs and begin to renew their lives, hence his campaign slogan "Crist, let's get back to normal." Crist would also like to hold a vote to decide on Florida's future. He believes that the FRG should administer Florida and is extremely opposed to Tahoans and FRA troops on Florida soil.

Jim Davis - Democrat Party -

Death Penalty: AGAINST

Abortion: FOR

Gay Marriage: FOR

Environmental Legislation: FOR

Davis puts less focus on private industry and more focus on having the government help its citizens, particularly the needy and poor. Instead of focusing on privatization, the government has a responsibility to create programs that will ensure every citizen is properly being treated for. Davis supports the implementation of continued government work programs to get people back on their feet. He would also like to hold a vote on Florida's future. He believes that the FRG should administer Florida and is extremely opposed to Tahoans and FRA troops on Florida soil.

Atlee Yarrow - Socialist Party -

Death Penalty: AGAINST

Abortion: FOR

Gay Marriage: FOR

Environmental Legislation: FOR

Yarrow agrees with many of Davis' points however he believes that the government should retain control of major sectors of the economy and that only limited privatization should be allowed to return. he blames corporations for his states troubles and believe the government is the answer to the people's problems. He thinks that everyone should leave Florida and they should rebuild themselves, in the image of a glorious socialist state. He is the least popular and well-known of all candidates.

Tahoan peacekeepers will monitor the election to make sure no voter fraud takes place by any party. Allegations of voter fraud will be investigated thoroughly. We will respect the outcome of the election, should it be undertaken fairly, although it will not change Tahoe's stance that Groenlandia has no right to unilaterally control Florida, and Tahoan peacekeepers will not withdraw under any circumstance, unless it is the peace proposal accepted by Groenlandia (made in the Redemption Summit Thread)

Rebel Army Announcement

From the Desk of the Prime Minister

As seen at the currently ongoing Foundation Summit, the Tahoe Republic continues to be a dogmatic, hostile, and uncompromising nation. It has become clear to all of the Americas that Tahoe does not seek peace and stability in this area of the world, but utter domination and uncontested rule. We, in good consciousness, cannot hold any sort of agreement or treaty with such a nation, no matter how major or minor; especially when we signed it under duress with a gun at our head, and when we did so to maintain the peace that has now been broken. As such, Rebel Army now considers it's America-wide NAP void with the Tahoe Republic. Though we note, it is still in effect with all other American nations, just not Tahoe.

Elections held in Florida!

Yesterday elections were held for the first time in Florida to help decided it's future. 86% of eligible voters came to the polls citing a strong urge to have a say in how things are rebuilt. There were no reports of voter fraud although the election hotline is still up, if citizens have knowledge of fraud they are required to report it in a timely fashion. For the most part, the troops appreciated the FRG troops stationed at each booth, one anonymous citizen stating "I felt safe with the troops there, and I knew I was making a difference by voting."

Charlie Crist overwhelming won the elections, winning large majorities in rural, less affected areas. In the large urban cities, the race was much closer and Democratic candidate Jim Davis managed to squeeze by with a majority. Atlee Yarrow posted a disappointing finish, getting little of the popular vote. Many cited his promise to not have foreign nations provide relief assistance and the formation of a socialist state as very unpleasing and detrimental to the future success of Florida.

Red = Republican Candidate Charlie Crist

Blue = Democrat Candidate Jim Davis

Grey = No reported votes

Total percentage of votes

Charlie Crist - 52.2%

Jim Davis - 45.1%

Atlee Yarrow - 1.9%

Other - .8%

After the election the Transitional Florida Government formally handed over power to Florida Governor Charlie Crist and his newly formed government. Crist called this election a victory for "all Floridians" and promised Florida would once again rise to prominence on the world stage. One of his first acts was to meet with the newly elected state legislature and draft a resolution. It was quickly passed and signed into law. FRG analysts who met with Crist warned him the new bill would only increase tensions however the new government insisted it was necessary.

The bill formally demands the "withdrawal of all foreign occupiers including the Tahoe Republic and the Federal Republic of America."

In addition, Crist has formally submitted his proposal to have an emergency vote on the future of the state. He said it was necessary to determine the future of the state and he said that the people had the right to determine their own fate. Most people have agreed to attend this vote and the precincts have remained set up to accommodate it. The vote will happen in 5 days time (OOC:tonight) and people are encouraged to be informed when making their decision. TV channels and radios are being dedicated to analysts describing the pros and cons to each decision.

The choices on the ballot will be:

Florida should:

A)Remain a Protectorate of the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia

B)Become a Pan-American Protectorate

C)Officially join the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia (annexed by)

D)Become Independent and allow no foreign-intervention

E)Other (write-in)

The most popular options right now are C and A. Most people consider the FRG troops and government as the nation that helped rebuild Florida. They also agree with the uncovered document that the FRG legally controls the land. The difference is many think Florida would be rebuilt quicker and become more prosperous as an actual part of the FRG. Option B is in the middle in terms of popularity, although many citizens have unfavorable views of the Tahoe troops. Option D is the least popular, as most people believe Florida is incapable of rebuilding itself with outside assistance which it desperately needs.

More news from Florida!

Though the governor election had little to no voting fraud, we have confirmed a report that there was one incident of violence in a Ft. Lauderdale neighborhood. Apparently a small group of rebels went up to a polling station and set off a car bomb in front before firing at the FRG and Florida guards. Five citizens were killed and over 30 were injured in the explosion and the firefight lasted for a little over a minute. The FRG soldiers, though outnumbered, quickly overwhelmed the rebels. Two rebels were killed and 4 were captured and 1 FRG soldier was in critical condition. The rebels are expected to go on trial at a date to be determined, and are being charged with the deaths of the citizens killed in the car explosion.

Due to the upcoming election, a recent fad has emerged in Florida. Citizens are buying stickers, buttons, and wristbands that say "F%^& Tahoe. Option C." an obvious reference to Option C of the upcoming vote, which would mean becoming part of the FRG. The wristbands especially have become fashionable and are being compared to the Livestrong wristband fad from previous years. Although many FRG troops privately find them humorous, it is official policy that FRG troops do not support nor condemn the sale of these items, citing a desire to not increase tensions with Tahoe.

Mrs. Michelle Shephard has recently sued Bob's Cheap Plastic Trinkets Co. over the sale of these wristbands, stickers, and shirts, stating they are "obscene and my children are being surrounded by an inappropriate message." Due to the time sensitive nature of the lawsuit, it is expected to reach the Florida Supreme Court shortly. As a result of the court case, sales of F$%^ Tahoe wristbands has increased 2000%.

Federalist withdrawal from Florida and South Carolina, cancellation of treaty with New Eden, expulsion of New Eden dignitaries

With the conclusion of the Summit, Federalist troops have withdrawn from the panhandle of Florida, and from the rightful property of the FRA, South Carolina, to be consumed and persecuted by the imperialist powers of New Eden and Groenlandia at their leisure. Under the threat of force from the fascists, we have been forced to withdraw, taking with us refugees who would rather not live in such honorless nations of liars and imperialists.

Dignitaries from New Eden have been expelled from the FRA, and we are announcing the suspension of the treaty dividing South Carolina between the two nations, as well as our guarantee of independence and free trade agreement.

All yours, kids.

New Eden warns the FRA not to be so rash in its words.

An attitude like that towards the international community will cost you friends.

the FRA and FRG granted New Eden its independance and so we remain neutral and are greatful for the FRG in helping us get our lands returned to its rightful owners. We are also greatful for the FRA pulling out of land becuase it avoided a terrible conflict.

your guarantee?

takes two to tango buddy, our independance is voided if the FRG and FRA wish it to be, and it would still require a forceful attempt.

private to New Eden

The lands weren't yours to begin with. The original deal regarding splitting the territory between New Eden and the FRA, the FRG is lying and using threats of murder and rape to advance this. We do not need you as an ally, if you're going to pull this on us. And yes, we are voiding our guarantee of independence-- meaning we will not aid you at all, and neither will we conduct trade or open our border to you. You do not need it, nor do we.

No force required. We simply do not recognize you, nor do we need to.

Private to Greater Pacifica

They threatened the lives of millions of Americans. We simply do not have the means to resist them, either. What other course did we have, beyond our people being murdered by the madmen?

The Italian Federation laughs at the pitiful excuses of the FRA. First they spit in the faces of those who gave them their original land and protected them. Then they go back on a deal and illegally invade a people who never wanted them there to begin with, spewing useless propaganda about citizens resisting and shooting at them when nothing of the sort occurred. Now they leave areas they were never supposed to have in the first place with a massive "bawwww-fest" over Groenlandia threatening to use the same thing the FRA had threatened FRG with: force. And they try and characterize it as "rape and murder".

We are happy that the FRA has shown their true colors and are glad they have withdrawn from South Carolina and the Florida panhandle. Those citizens will be better off without them. Our continued concerns and prayers go out to the people of Georgia, who now must live under this immature rule.

Regardless of your opinion of our "excuses" and misinformed opinions on our ability to govern Georgia, it is a matter of record that we did incur casualties during the operation to secure your abandoned lands. Whether or not you want to spew your vile !@#$%^&* about our government, we do not mind. But please do not dishonor the ultimate sacrifice some have made, unless you truly are sub-human.

Thank you,

We dismiss your claims as pointless drivel and propaganda. All reports, from every other nation entering former Pravus Ingruo lands, have said the people were peaceful, welcoming, and grateful for the assistance. Only you, in the Florida panhandle, have said that the people were hostile towards your soldiers and shot back. We are drawn to one of two conclusions:

1) Your claims are propaganda, merely trying to back up your claim to the panhandle by tossing "dead soldiers" around.

2) The people actually did resist, indicating they did not want you there in the first place.

Whichever it truly is, you have withdrawn, and I am sure the people will give the humanitarian workers from Groenlandia no trouble whatsoever.

It's a little hard to show empathy and compassion when you call me Hitler and my nation Nazis. If you show no sympathy, you shall receive none.

We encourage all governments to not pursue relations with this nation. They have shown, they even admitted to, breaking a treaty just to get more land. If honor and trust are the true worth of a nation, the Federal Republic of America is worthless.

However, we are done with the mudslinging because we are trying to foster better relations with the Americas.

Good day to you,

While there was minimal loss of life in regards to the Florida panhandle, we mean the overall encompassing operation, in which we DID lose quite a few men.

We can't persuade you to believe us, and I suppose now we have no reason to. It's a shame though, it really is, that you do dishonor those men. We have no need to continue this conversation further, you are a lost cause.

We thank Mr. Dobbs for his former friendship in the Americas, and wish him well.

Fair enough, in regards to the mudslinging. There's no reason to continue our hostile stance to you, as we have already lost enough through that approach.

1:00 PM

The plebiscite held in Florida has been closed for the past few hours and the results are officially in. The election has been hailed as a success, largely due to the fact there was no reported violence and fraud and the prior integration of the panhandle. Citizens in the panhandle, previously under FRA control, were able to vote to decide their nation's future as well. It is believed their widespread support for annexation by the FRG to prevent being controlled by the FRA again led to the major victory in the polls.

Results

34% - A)Remain a Protectorate of the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia

10% - B)Become a Pan-American Protectorate

52% - C)Officially join the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia (annexed by)

2% - D)Become Independent and allow no foreign-intervention

1% - E)Other (write-in)

With the results of the poll confirmed, the Florida State Legislature voted to ask to join the Federal Republic of Grøenlandia with an overwhelming majority. In an unusual late night session of the Senatus, it agreed to grant Florida's request and formally welcome it as the 6th state in the FRG.

5:45 PM

For the past few hours there has been widespread celebration in the streets as the Florida citizens hailed the results. Many considered it a step in the right direction and were overjoyed with the news. Troops paraded through the streets, however there was a darker side to the events. At least three separate anti-Tahoe rallies were held across the state in front of government buildings. The protesters had to be restrained by trained riot police however fortunately there were no reported injuries.

In addition, a Florida Statehood Commission has been set between Florida and the FRG to ensure the swift joining of Florida.
