The Global Protectorate Crisis

Since the war began, NPO has lost over 7 Million NS. IRON has lost approximately 5 Million. If the Hegemon alliances continue wage war against Karma, who currently outnumber and outgun them, their NS will slide even lower. Cries of "So what?" may be heard from either side that has a stake in ensuring either destruction or survival, but taking a beating to prove a point may prove disastrous for those they have sworn to defend yet do not have the capability to defend themselves.

As many of you well know, the Hegemonic alliances carry under them protectorates, that, without their ability to maintain a fighting force, would leave their protectorates vulnerable to raiders as they do not have the infrastructure, both literally and figuratively, to fend them off without their assistance.

TPF and the like pride themselves on keeping a stable of well protected alliances, enshrining their commitment to them via the Overlord's Protectorate Pact and their Generals' Protectorates. While some protectorates have fallen victim to grossly disproportionate attacks (the small DOOM alliance vs. the sanctioned Polaris) it becomes clear to me that alliances are forgetting that their great power comes with great responsibilities in the form of dependents. NS that was once there to protect protectorates is now lost and surely greater NS losses will follow; a perilous cascade will emerge not unlike the credit crunch that preceded the Global Financial Crisis.

The longer that Hegemony allow their NS to drop (unless they have an pocket ace they are not telling us about; many of their nations are in peace mode after all) the more they expose their protectorates to raiders they have little hope of repelling. I am not dictating whether Hegemony accept surrender and/or am I telling them how to fight their wars, but it seems at least to me that their already imperiled protectorates will be the biggest losers if the war prolongs itself indefinitely and needlessly.

You have to factor in the actions of the protectorate. DOOM, for example, entered of their own accord. However, the rest is accurate.

(Side note, IRON has lost over 8 million NS)

You are of course assuming that the large alliances currently under siege have an option to leave the war.

It takes one side to start a war, two to end it.

I guess I may have phrased it a little awkwardly. What I mean is, if alliances keep fighting, who will protect their protectorates when the protectors' NS have drained away?

Most of OPP did, but there are a significant amount of protectorates that did not. What will become of them?

Their opponents or former opponents if an alliance surrenders and is under demilitarization terms could do so until the protector is back up to the task. It's not an obligation, but it would be nice to see.
