IYIyTh
MI6 is hosting its third Chess tournament. We are currently gathering participants and will look into a tournament structure -- hopefully with bracket drawing done live. Join for your chance to win Cash and/or CN donation. The format will be selected once we have an idea of how many participants involved. To sign up, please visit our forums where all tournament communications will take place here: http://cn-mi6.com/index.php?showtopic=2516 Apparently I was supposed to make a topic and not a blog post. So now we have both. Obligatory WANA sucks, Friends rules. Edited March 2, 2015 by IYIyTh

JoshuaR
Since quite a few of you might be interested in playing more chess, I thought I'd post this here... Back before CN, I used to play a decent amount of chess in MFO's chess section. We usually entered a team or few in a team chess league. It's actually a pretty cool league. You have up to 6 players on a team, and four players play each week. You play against other teams round robin style and then the best teams go to playoffs to decide all the division champions (sorted by rating so the matchups are mostly fair). The time controls for the games are 45 45 (45 minutes initial time and 45 second increment per move). For many, that might be a turn off. For some, it could be attractive. Games are played on the free internet chess server (FICS) at freechess.org. Anyway, if anyone's interested in fielding team in the next tournament, send me a message. If we have enough people, it could be fun to have a CN group enter. This is the tournament web page, for example this week's pairings: http://teamleague.org/pairings.php?round=3 One of the really cool things with these FICS games is that a robot will watch your games and record the "whispers" (observers' comments that can't be seen by the players) so that you can review the games afterward. Here's an example game of my own recorded by the watchbot: http://mekk.waw.pl/mk/watchbot/game/2625572
