BCNA: Buryatia launches investigation into RUSSIAN

The government of Buryatia, which gained access to the Intelligence Archives of the Former Vaule Socialist Republic prior to the dissolution of the state, has decided to launch an investigation into the information contained in the archive, particularly related to the now defunct RUSSIAN pact. The government is expected to examine various documents and testimony in detail.

Although the pact has technically ended, several incidents occurring before its end are to be examined in order to determine if they have set a precedent. The main incident to be examined is the terms under which the RUSSIAN railway system was created and whether the use of the railway while Vaule’s borders were sealed constituted a violation of that nation’s sovereignty. If the inquiry finds that it was a breach of sovereignty, the government will draft legislation to ensure that any international railway system constructed in Buryatia would have strict clauses to prevent such a recurrence.

This is particularly important as parts of the former RUSSIAN railway still run through Buryatia. Since the government’s expansion of the existing railways is ongoing, there are calls by some to incorporate the former RUSSIAN railways into Buryatia’s national rail network. Before this can be done, the matter of sovereignty would have to be settled.

At a press conference at the Ministry of Transport, the Minister assured the public that although the Slavorussian Empire has not, to their knowledge, left the RUSSIAN pact, they would have no access to the existing rail lines under any circumstances. The Minister also assured that none of the rail lines link Buryatia to Slavorussia as the previous government of Vaule destroyed several of the rail links.

The Inquiry will begin as early as tomorrow and is expected to be complete in the next few weeks.

Premier Medvedev’s statement to the press

Frankly they (Buryatia) can do whatever the they want with their precious railroad. We left the RUSSIAN pact the day our allies failed to uphold the standards and ideals outlined in the charter and we have no interest in going back. Why this is even an issue now is beyond me. As far as I and my government are concerned the issue over the railroad along with the RUSSIAN pact are dead. We have more important things to worry about.

"Buryatia will not seek an explanation for the tone of the response from Slavorussia's Premier, however we thank Slavorussia for confirming that they did in fact leave the RUSSIAN pact. This issue is very little to do with the RUSSIAN pact, and is mainly regarding the status of joint projects whose ownership is not clarified in the agreements under which they are completed, like the former RUSSIAN railway network. Again we reiterate that this is an internal investigation and has nothing whatsoever to do with Slavorussia or its government."
