New Frontier Posted February 15, 2009 Report Share Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) The Realm of Magenta Government Of Magenta Magenta’s nominal ruler is His Excellency, Lord Ammon, son of Ammon. The Lord’s throne is in Petra, the largest city in the realm. His Excellency receives half of all taxes levied in the Realm. However, underneath His Excellency the Lord there are seven different counties, each with their own Count and Countess who hold dominion in that part of Magenta. Beneath that, there are several different Barons in each County, each of whom control a Barony. If you continue to search deeper you find that each Barony is divided up into estates, and estates are governed by Marshals who, unlike Counts and Barons, are appointed by the local Baron and serve until they are dismissed. Counties There are five different counties within Magenta, and the various Counts are constantly struggling for dominance over their peers. Counts are allowed to keep two eighths of all taxes levied in their County. Below are the Counties listed in order of current wealth and political power. This will be updated as needed. County – Count – Number of Baronies County of Aries – Sir Dagon - 6 County of Libra – Sir Ollisar - 4 County of Saggitaria – Sir Gareth - 3 County of Pisces – Sir Balakard - 3 Baronies Each of the four counties has between three and six baronies, and the Realm of Magenta has a total of sixteen. Barons, while holding less power than Counts, are more involved in the actual goings-on and have more connections among the merchants and other members of the middle class. As well, their ability to appoint and remove Marshals at will gives them far more power than one would think. Barons are allowed to keep one eighth of all taxes levied in their Barony. Estates Marshals are responsible for most of the day-to-day administration duties of the government, including law enforcement and the collection of taxes. While almost all Marshals are corrupt in their dealings with the peasantry (indeed, it is almost impossible to survive in the government of Magenta without some level of corruption), certain Marshals earn a reputation for being reasonably fair and just in their actions. Marshal’s are allowed to keep one eighth of all taxes levied in their estates. Military of Magenta The Royal Army of the Realm is a standing army administrated by the Lord, who appoints an Archon to organize the Royal Army and to lead it into battle. The Royal Army is responsible for patrolling Magenta’s borders and for defending the Realm’s sovereignty.
