DUCHESS OF BOSTON DEAD AT 63

512_AddisonRichards1.JPG

Addison, Duchess of Boston

BOSTON -- The Duchess of Boston has died unexpectedly at home in Adams Manor this evening. Addison, eldest daughter of the previous Duke, Duke Antonio, was Duchess for nearly 30 years. She will be remembered for her goal to revitalize Boston, the nation's most populous city, into a center of culture, most prominently through her investments in the growing theater district and the purchase of the Boston Redhawks baseball team.

Her son, Alexander, is now the Duke of Boston. He has already announced that he intends to rename the Commonwealth Theater which opened last year after his mother.

LIN DEFEATS ASHBRIDGE AND CAMPBELL

512_AliciaLin1.JPG512_HughAshbridge1.JPG512_FredCampbell1.JPG

The candidates for Chancellor of Industry, Incumbent Alicia Lin, Hugh Ashbridge, and Fred Campbell

ENDOR CUIDAD -- The Chancellor of Industry Election votes are in and incumbent Alicia Lin has been elected for a third term. Lin has proved successful in the role over the last twelve years, strengthening the economy, raising wages, all while divesting from Kensington Mews Shipbuilding. This track record made her a tough candidate to challenge. Hugh Ashbridge was well funded by his wife and her business dealings between OSR and Bank Erie. Fred Campbell continued to repeat his calls to nationalize the EBC which resonated less with voters this year than the previous times he has attempted to run.

MONTREAL DEFEATS SYRACUSE TO WIN FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP

JA_MontrealRoyals1.JPG

MONTREAL -- For the first time in 8 years, the Pittsburgh Hornets were not in the Atlantic Baseball League Championship. In fact, they didn't even make the playoffs this year, finishing tied for 6th place. Without Pittsburgh to cheer against, this year's playoffs were wild, right up to the end. Montreal and Syracuse were the final two teams, and they took it all the way out to Game 7, which is all that we can ask for, with Montreal taking home the trophy in front of a sold-out crowd. King Louis was present for all the games and was seen celebrating with the team on the field. "When I formed this team 16 years ago, this was what I always dreamed of!"

AUGUSTINE EMPIRE RAISES MISSISSIPPI TOLLS

512_ValeriaFisher1.JPG

Her Imperial Highness Valeria, Duchess of Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- The Augustine Empire has raised tolls for ships transiting on the Mississippi River. The city of New Orleans sits at the mouth of the Mississippi River which is crucial for transporting goods from inland to the Gulf of Mexico and to other ports around the continent. The move is largely seen as an attack against the Kingdom of Cumberland, the landlocked nation bordering the Augustine Empire to the north which relies on the waterway extensively for trade.

DETCHITORIA & NAC ANNOUNCE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

Sol3_DetchitoriaFlag.jpgNorthamericancommonwealthflag.png

Flags of Detchitoria and the North American Commonwealth

KANSAS CITY -- The North American Commonwealth has announced a free trade agreement with Detchitoria. The free trade agreement will simplify customs entry and nearly eliminate tariffs between the two nations. NAC President Anthony Cole said, "I'm pleased we could come up with an agreement so quickly with our new neighbors. We welcome the stability that Detchitoria has brought to the region and are proud to call them our friends."

Within J Andres, the announcement has been seen as a loss for new Chancellor of Foreign Affairs, Walter Lewis, and the New Horizon party. Since the announcement of Detchitoria's founding, Walter Lewis and Eleanor Mueller had been working hard to try to bring the new nation into the Andrean sphere of influence.

NEW KAMINSKI AIRCRAFT TAKES TO THE SKIES

JA_KaminskiAircraft2.JPG

The K103

SYRACUSE -- Kaminski Aircraft announced the completion of the K103 Reconnaissance  Aircraft. Compared to the K101 released a few years ago, the K103 is significantly smaller, which means the air compartments can be heated quicker, allowing for it to be more rapidly launched and with improved maneuverability in the air.

Teresa Kaminski was smiling widely as she disembarked from the vessel's maiden flight to arrive at the press conference at company headquarters in Syracuse. "The K103 is a great aircraft, rated for altitudes of about 2500 feet, providing visibility for about 45 miles in all directions. The K103 ascends and maneuvers smoothly, making it the best, and still only, aircraft in the skies today."

Samuel Astor, her benefactor, was present for the press conference, but declined to participate in the maiden voyage.

HARRY TEMPLETON, TITAN OF BROADCASTING, DEAD AT 85

512_HarryTempleton1.JPG

Harry Templeton

ALBANY -- Harry Templeton, longtime CEO of the Eastern Broadcasting Company, has died. Templeton joined the Eastern Broadcasting Company in 2094, when the heirs of founder Jon Thomas, were searching for someone to run their father's company. Templeton was a young and surprising choice to be the chief executive of a major media company, but back then, the company was still just a small collection of seven radio stations in the Albany area.

Templeton brought vision to the company, expanding nationwide, and producing new original content that became appointment listening. By 2120, the EBC was the most dominant radio broadcaster in the nation. Scripted fictional and non-fictional serials, such as Shadow of Mercton were immediate hits, powering Templeton to pursue a new venture and old passion of his, baseball.

In 2132, Templeton founded the Atlantic Baseball League as a subsidiary to the EBC, in a way to generate additional content. Each year, the league grew in popularity, bringing in more listeners, and advertisers. The EBC sold off each of the five original franchises to buyers for substantial gains. Templeton purchased the Albany Bears himself, and has been a mainstay at all home games, including this past year as his health has declined. Templeton stepped down from his roles within the company earlier in the year, Chelsea Waterford replacing him.

The Albany Bears are currently playing in the championship against the Pittsburgh Hornets. Both teams intend to honor him before the start of tonight's game. His son, Peter, is expected to take control of the Bears.

ARLINGTON -- Three of the Eastern Union's cities have fallen, with J Andres capturing Trenton and Alleghenia capturing Richmond and Norfolk. J Andres forces have been securing territory circling Philadelphia for months, but Alleghenia has entered a significant offensive, getting ready to attack Washington.

The Eastern Union has fortified defenses along the Potomac River in anticipation of the Alleghenian offensive, and has met Alleghenia on the battlefield in Arlington. The Alleghenian forces are being led by former J Andres President Sarah Baker, who has been consulting for King Robert for more than a decade.

PITTSBURGH WINS FIFTH CHAMPIONSHIP

512_DevinValdez1.JPGJA_PittsburghHornets1.JPG512_JustinWashburn2.JPG

First Baseman Devin Valdez, the Logo of the Pittsburgh Hornets, Head Coach Justin Washburn

ALBANY -- The Pittsburgh Hornets have completed another dominant season on top. The storyline over the last week has been all about Albany, mourning the loss of their owner and the founder of the league, Harry Templeton. His usual seat remained vacant throughout the three games played in Albany, but victory eluded the Bears and Pittsburgh brings home another championship.

Pittsburgh has been a dynasty for many of the past few years. Pittsburgh entered the league as an expansion team in 2144 and they won the championship for the first time in 2147. Over the last nine years, Pittsburgh has made it to the championship an astounding eight times, winning the championship five times.

The players are celebrating their win, but the commentators were quick to begin pondering whether this might be the end of the Pittsburgh dynasty, as both long time head coach, Justin Washburn, and all-star first baseman, Devin Valdez, have already announced their intention to retire. The announcement from Washburn was expected. His baseball career spans three decades and goes back to the founding of the league where he won three championships with the Rossingol Robins. Valdez's retirement is surprising, as he is still young and was assumed to be headed into the offseason as the most in-demand free agent.

CUMBERLAND MARCHES EAST

Sol3_Cumberland1.png

Flag of the Kingdom of Cumberland

NASHVILLE -- King Martin of the Kingdom of Cumberland announced today that his forces would be marching east to the Atlantic Ocean, intending to secure access to the sea through the former North Carolina territory. "The taxes and tolls on the Mississippi River are too high," he stated. "The people of Cumberland deserve access to the sea. Just as Tahoe has secured territory in the rest to reduce crime, we shall do in the east, eliminating the ruffians who exist in the margins of our territory and securing maritime access."

CASCADIAN GOVERNMENT PURCHASES STAKE IN KAMINSKI AIRCRAFT

512_TeresaKaminski1.JPG

Teresa Kaminski

SYRACUSE -- Fresh off the success of last year's launch of the K103, which is already being deployed by J Andres on the front with the Eastern Union, Teresa Kaminski has more interested parties in her products. The Republic of Cascadia has purchased a significant stake in Kaminski Aircraft from Bank Erie, and will be funding a west coast expansion.

Cascadia is typically hostile to typical capitalism and corporations; however, Prime Minister Elsie Huang said, "Teresa Kaminski has a clear vision for the future, and it is a vision that we share. We can't wait for her to come to Cascadia and help build the future with us."

ARLINGTON -- For four and half months, the Alleghenian army has been held at bay in Arlington, unable to advance on Washington. Yesterday, Alleghenia was able to break through, and the Eastern Union forces rapidly retreated from the city.

It is believed that the Eastern Union is consolidating its forces in and around Philadelphia, its capital.

AUGUSTINE EMPIRE MOVES NORTH ALONG COAST

512_AlexanderFisher2.JPG

Emperor Alexander Augustus

WILMINGTON -- The forces of the Augustine Empire moved north today, pushing into the North Carolina territory. The Augustine Empire announced that it intends to capture the North Carolinian coastline and does not intend to move into the territory of the former Eastern Union, which is now being held by Alleghenian forces.

Emperor Alexander Augustus said, "The Kingdom of Alleghenia is a considered a friend of the Empire. We applaud their expansion and slow decimation of the Eastern Union. The Empire wishes for a peaceful border with Alleghenia and we will capture the territory between us, to ensure other interlopers do not intrude on our friend's backdoor."

The move is widely being regarded as an attack upon Cumberland, which has seen their trade evaporate due to Augustine tolls on the Mississippi, and has been slowly marching east across North Carolina specifically to access the coast line. It is clear the Augustine Empire intends to restrict their access.

512_MartyTaylor1.JPG

Chancellor of Defense Marty Taylor

ENDOR CUIDAD -- Six years ago Marty Taylor said that he thought he had won his final race, but yesterday, he announced he's got one more in him. "Our job in the Eastern Union is incomplete. A change in leadership on the front lines is not what our forces need. I will run once more to see this through, but then I intend on retiring."

Taylor has remained the sole Labor Party elected official withstanding against the New Horizon wave.

ELEANOR MUELLER AND DYLAN SHERMAN ANNOUNCE PLAN TO RESTORE THE COMMUNE

512_EleanorMueller2.JPG512_DylanSherman1.JPG

President Eleanor Mueller and Knights of Cromwell Leader Dylan Sherman

BOSTON -- For the past eight years, Dylan Sherman has had one goal, to improve the citizens representation by restoring the Commune. The representative body was abolished by Phillippe I in the years following the Grand Mexican War, and while the evidence of the war is still all around us, the war's conclusion was generations ago.

"Dylan and I have been discussing the Commune and its restoration for some time now," Mueller said. "I believe we still have a lot to plan in regards to determining the right number of representatives. Neither of us want another 600+ deliberative body that can't accomplish anything. We have discussed that if I am elected again, Dylan would work for me full time in crafting the plans to reinstate the Commune, with a timetable to incorporate any Commune elections into the 2160 election cycle."

Dylan Sherman was by her side for the announcement, nodding approvingly throughout. "This is a great day for democracy," he stated after the President's speech. "I am very excited to work with the President to restore the Commune and improve our representation."

ELEANOR MUELLER AND MARTY TAYLOR VICTORIOUS

512_EleanorMueller2.JPG512_MartyTaylor1.JPG

President Eleanor Mueller and Chancellor of Defense Marty Taylor

ENDOR CUIDAD -- Eleanor Mueller and Marty Taylor will both be headed into another term. Eleanor Mueller won her second term as President and Marty Taylor won his fifth term as Chancellor. Taylor's tenure as Chancellor of Defense is already 20 years long and makes him the longest serving Chancellor or Minister of Defense in the nation's history.

Mueller announced that she would make good on her election promise and expects to reinstate the Commune following the 2160 elections. Dylan Sherman will begin a three month period to assess the right total number of representatives. When the Commune was disestablished over thirty years ago, there were over 700 representatives. Both Sherman and Mueller expressed that value was too high.

CUMBERLAND CONTINUES MARCH AND MEETS THE EMPIRE

Sol3_Cumberland1.png

Flag of the Kingdom of Cumberland

RALEIGH -- The Kingdom of Cumberland has not been deterred by the Augustine Empire's northern march. The armed forces of both nations have been in a tense standoff near the city of Raleigh for days.

Just this morning, King Martin announced his declaration of war. "To not declare war against an oppressor is to acknowledge one's own non-existence," is how the two page declaration began.

The Cumberland forces swiftly moved into the city upon its release. Cumberland has not been involved in any armed conflicts before, and the troops of the Augustine Empire are significantly more experienced and better armed.

SHERMAN PROVIDES FIRST DRAFT OF PLAN FOR COMMUNE

512_DylanSherman1.JPG

Dylan Sherman

BOSTON -- Dylan Sherman has provided his first draft of a plan for the reinstatement of the Commune to the President. Sources claim that the first draft identifies a need for 88 representatives, who would each roughly represent 100,000 citizens. A source within the President's office claimed that this number was likely too high. A new building in Endor Cuidad will need to be constructed, and 88 representatives means 88 offices, conference rooms, the Commune Chamber itself, etc.
