MUELLER RETURNS FROM PHILADELPHIA

512_EleanorMueller2.JPG

Chancellor of Foreign Affairs Eleanor Mueller

ENDOR CUIDAD -- Chancellor of Foreign Affairs Eleanor Mueller had returned from her fourth visit to the Eastern Union this year. Her press office was vague releasing a simple statement, "Chancellor Mueller continues to believe that a strong southern neighbor is vital to regional stability." On the surface, the statement seems innocuous, but compared to similarly worded statements from similar trips, this one clearly omits mention of the Eastern Union. So while a strong southern neighbor may be important, Mueller's thoughts may have evolved to the point that she no longer believes the Eastern Union fits the bill.

BOSTON STOCK EXCHANGE OPENS

512_AlexanderMercton2.JPG

Alexander, Viscount Hyannis

BOSTON -- The Boston Stock Exchange, the brainchild of the Duchess's Better Boston Conference last year, has opened. The Duchess was ill, and not present for the opening bell, instead, her son, Viscount Hyannis presided over the opening ceremonies. The exchange is owned and operated by the Duchy of Boston and, compared to the Endor Stock Exchange, has lower listing fees and will also permit international listings. If the stock exchange will live up to the lofty expectations of "making Boston better" remains to be seen.

FORMER PRESIDENT AND COMMUNE PREMIER BOURBON DEAD AT 83

512_MateoBourbon5.JPG

Former President Mateo Bourbon, Baron of Endor

ENDOR CUIDAD -- Former President Mateo Bourbon, Baron of Endor, has passed away from natural causes at age 83. Born in 2067 to Lady Katherine of Warwick and Louis Bourbon of Vinsalia, he spend his early childhood in London before moving back to J Andres. He came of age at the conclusion of the Grand Mexican War and soon followed the rest of the Bourbons into politics. Mateo was a cousin of both King Phillippe I and former President Pierre Bourbon.

Mateo's start in politics was in the Commune, where he was Premier for 28 years, the longest tenure in history. It was during this tenure, that Mateo and the Labor party majority worked to nationalize many businesses, including KMS, PPL, the WASL, and National Rail. The decisions were controversial at the time, and remain controversial today in some circles, but by and large most of the nationalizations have been looked back at favorably by history.

When President Pierre Bourbon was assassinated, it was Mateo who became President and then worked to eliminate the Commune, replacing it with the Crown Council and the three Chancellors we have today. He would serve as President for 12 years before his retirement in 2137. Mateo renounced his nobility and titles upon becoming president; however, King Phillippe IV granted the life peerage of Baron of Endor to him upon his retirement.

"Other than King Phillippe I himself, no one else has had as significant of an impact on the nation in the last 100 years. Bourbon was a classic statesman, always respectful. It was an absolute pleasure to work with him, and he will be missed," said Douglas Annan, former Chancellor of Industry and Earl of Danshire.

"Bourbon set a high mark for the accomplishments that all of those in government only dream to accomplish. He will be missed," said President Earnell Chambers.

ALBANY -- Three years after his failed presidential run, Dr. Bohdan Askenov and PQ Health are beginning a rollout to improve health conditions in rural J Andres. "There are over 400,000 residents in Katherine, Gabriel, and Norfolk counties who are underserved by the existing health network because they live too far away from the cities for reasonable service," Dr. Aksenov said at a press conference in Albany. Since the release of the Rossingol R300 last year, I've been working with PQ Health and Chancellor Lin to develop a strategy to reach those underserved, and I'm pleased today to announce that we will be completing a pilot of a rural visiting doctor and ambulance program."

Aksenov announced that a five rural PQ clinics will be opened throughout Gabriel County. The clinics will have a smaller footprint, but will have two Rossingol R300 trucks, specially outfitted with the necessary supplies to make house calls and treat the most common ailments.

Chancellor Lin was present for the announcement stating, "I'm pleased to have worked with Dr. Aksenov on this effort. He brought up some valid concerns during the last election cycle and just because he wasn't elected, it didn't make those concerns invalid."

The pilot will run for one year, after which Dr. Askenov will assess and make any recommendations to improve the service. Rossingol Motors has donated the ten R300s for the pilot program, and intends to offer future R300s at a discount.

FOURTH CHAMPIONSHIP FOR PITTSBURGH

JA_PittsburghHornets1.JPG

Logo of the Pittsburgh Hornets

PROVIDENCe -- Pittsburgh has continued their domination of the Atlantic Baseball League with yet another championship defeating the Providence Grays in Game 7 on the road in Providence last night. The hometown crowd was disappointed to see the Grays (58-50) fall to the Hornets (57-51), believing that Providence might win their first championship since 2134.

The Hornets streak of success is nearly unprecedented. In the early 2140s, the Rossingol Robins had a similar streak of success winning four championships in six years. In that instance, not only did it take Rossingol an extra year to win the four championships, Rossingol didn't make the playoffs in the years they lost. In either event, the proclamations of a dynasty by various radio commentators is likely deserved. The Hornets are now tied with the Albany Bears as the second-winningest franchise. Rossingol is still in first with 7.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF CASCADIA, ELSIE HUANG

December 24, 2151

The continent seems once more on the brink of crisis.

In the west: Tahoe has pressed through the Nevada territory and are practically knocking on the doors of the SSR.

In the north: The free cities and Ottania are ramping up their militaries.

In the east: Alleghenia and the Eastern Union seem destined for a conflict.

In the south: The Augustine Empire has gobbled up Monterrey and continues to grow.

The veterans of the Grand Mexican War have nearly all left us, but the evidence of the war is all around us.

Cascadia urges all nations to remember our history so we are not doomed to repeat it.

Closer to home, Cascadia continues to condemn the actions of the New Tahoe Republic. Our military is on station to ensure our borders don't look so inviting. Any action taken by Tahoe above the 42nd parallel will be met with force.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE NEW TAHOE REPUBLIC, ETHAN O'DARGAN

January 23, 2152

Roughly 85 years ago, the peaceful Navajo Union was systematically destroyed by a rebellion. Ernesto Espada and his Espadas Rojas killed Sonakih III and the Union, forming the Southwest Socialist Republic.

The nation built on rebellion continues to harbor criminals which seek to destabilize the continent.

This morning I requested a declaration of war from the Congress, which has since been authorized. We will bring safety and security to the SSR as we have done with the Nevada territory. And we will do so together with our allies in the Augustine Empire.

SYRACUSE -- Teresa Kaminski, the ousted CEO of JTech has found a new home in Syracuse. Her newest startup, Kaminski Aircraft has been supported by OSR and Bank Erie. The facility produces airships, large blimp-like air vehicles. The ships are slow moving and not a reasonable travel method, but could be suitable as reconnaissance vehicles for warfare, which appears to be Kaminski's goal.

MUELLER TRAVELS TO DETROIT

512_EleanorMueller2.JPG

Chancellor of Foreign Affairs, Eleanor Mueller

DETROIT -- Eleanor Mueller is heading to Detroit for the second time in as many months, hoping to court the new nation of Detchitoria. Her aides described the first trip as "productive" although few details were released.

Mueller is not the only North American leader making pilgrimages to the new nation; delegations from the North American Commonwealth have been seen in Chicago and Detroit regularly. As the Augustine Empire continues to grow, the other nations are eager to grow their own spheres of influence.

SALT LAKE CITY FALLS

512_EthanODargan1.JPG

President of the New Tahoe Republic, Ethan O'Dargan

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Southwest Socialist Republic has pulled out of Salt Lake City, their capital for the last eighty years. The city had been under siege from the forces of the Augustine Empire and the New Tahoe Republic for about a month, and has been brutally damaged.

A heavily armed convoy broke through Augustine barricades to the south of the city, enabling the escape, presumably to Phoenix or Tucson.

The President of New Tahoe, Ethan O'Dargan, broke the news in a radio announcement this afternoon. "The criminals of Salt Lake City are no more. The government which protected them have abandoned them, fleeing for refuge in their south. There are no welcome ports for these vagrants and criminals. The west will soon be safe and secure, and the rule of law supreme."

NEW HORIZON PARTY ANNOUNCES TICKET

512_EleanorMueller2.JPG512_WalterLewis1.JPG

Eleanor Mueller and Walter Lewis

ENDOR CUIDAD -- The New Horizon Party announced their intended candidates today for President and Chancellor of Foreign Affairs. Eleanor Mueller, founder of the party, and Chancellor of Foreign Affairs for the past 12 years announced that she will be seeking the Presidency, which will be left vacant by the outgoing Earnell Chambers. Walter Lewis, a senior ambassador in Mueller's staff will be the candidate for Chancellor of Foreign Affairs.

"For the past twelve years, we've been executing a vision," Mueller said in her speech. "We dreamt of a continent where peace and diplomacy were strong, and which J Andres played a pivotal role in promoting that peace and diplomacy. Today, although the dream is not here, we are so much closer to it being a reality than we were twelve years ago. The east is strong and secure. Our neighbors are unified in our vision."

No other candidates have been announced, but Mueller is a clear front-runner against most likely candidates.

PROVIDENCE -- Another year, another season of baseball in the books, with the championship coming down to a rematch of Pittsburgh vs Providence. This year though, a different outcome, with Providence winning last night in game 6.

This is Providence's second championship, the first 18 years ago. This was the first championship since the team was sold to Tristan Berlitz, Acadian railway magnate. "I am beyond pleased with the team's performance," he said. "Many of my friends have encouraged me to move the team up north, but this team and this city are one and the same. Tonight we celebrate in Providence!"

ALLEGHENIA ANNOUNCES CAPTURE OF EASTERN UNION INTERLOPERS

512_RobertTull1.JPG

King Robert of Alleghenia

PITTSBURGH -- The Kingdom of Alleghenia has announced that it captured six Eastern Union soldiers within their borders, venturing west towards the coal reserves. "It is unknown if these soldiers are incompetent and were lost or if they are malicious and scouting our territory. In either event, they will be held for questioning," a spokesman for the palace stated this afternoon.

Tensions between the Eastern Union and its neighbors has been high for many years.

KING ROBERT VISITS ENDOR CUIDAD

512_RobertTull1.JPG512_EleanorMueller2.JPG

King Robert of Alleghenia and J Andres President Eleanor Mueller

ENDOR CUIDAD -- The Alleghenian King is in J Andres again. While King Robert often visits Buffalo for business or Albany for visits with J Andres royalty, visiting the capital of Endor Cuidad is a rare occurrence. His aides are describing the trip as one to "meet and congratulate the new J Andres president on her election," however, President Mueller is no stranger to her neighbor.

Speculation is abundant that King Robert is in J Andres to discuss war with the Eastern Union and gather support.

JOINT PRESS RELEASE FROM THE KINGDOM OF ALLEGHENIA AND THE MARITIME REPUBLIC OF J ANDRES

November 18, 2153

Over the past few years, our neighbor, the Eastern Union of Cities have shot and killed our citizens, have kidnapped our diplomats, and entered our sovereign territory unlawfully.

Both the Kingdom of Alleghenia and the Maritime Republic of J Andres have tolerated these actions, forgiving trespasses in the hopes of a better future. Our kindness and tolerance has been interpreted as condoning and encouragement.

We will no longer tolerate a neighbor who does not share our vision for the future and does not participate in our efforts to improve the continent. Over the past month, we have called upon President Matthew Park to come to the table and discuss our grievances with us. He has not answered our call.

So we now must call for the disbandment of the confederacy that is the Eastern Union of Cities. And as the leaders of the confederacy are unwilling to do so, then we shall do so by force.

Robert, King of Alleghenia

Eleanor Mueller, President of J Andres

TRENTON FALLS TO J ANDRES; AUGUSTINE EMPIRE VISITS

512_AlexanderFisher2.JPG512_EleanorMueller2.JPG

Emperor Alexander Augustus & President Eleanor Mueller

ENDOR CUIDAD -- The first real victory in the war against the Eastern Union came today, with Chancellor Marty Taylor announcing that the Eastern Union forces were retreating from Trenton. Alleghenian forces have succeeded in taking Richmond also, and are on the verge of a southern surge to capture Norfolk. Next will be Philadelphia and Washington, two of the best defended cities in the Union.

Visiting today from the Augustine Empire is Emperor Alexander Augustus marking his first visit to J Andres since his election as Emperor nearly five years ago. Sources close to President Mueller indicate that the visit is a good sign, likely recognition of J Andres regional strength.
