Dragonisia - Mars

The plan had gone off without a hitch. Earth was unable to use space, probably for several generations. The humans under Druk Yul had built a masterful mars base and the Dragonisians had used them to get there in mass. They no longer had use for the humans.

Maelstrom called into the mars base ahead of his arrival, "Dread Space, kill anyone there who isn't one of us."

Dread Space responded back, "Affirmative, beginning the extermination of the homo-sapiens."

Dread went to the weapons lockers and got the smokeless powder pistols. He went through the colony and systematically exterminated all human helpers. "Sorry, your usefulness has been outlived."

In those few shots the only humans off of earth save the ones on the space station and moon had been exterminated. The ones on those outposts had no idea now whom it was they served and relied upon.

"We need to begin work on getting more payloads back to earth.. we need to put more junk in its orbit, increase the density of the debris cloud. We don't want anyone getting off that rock. Make methane extraction for fuel production a higher priority." Dread barked to his crew.

In the meantime around the poles of mars mirrors had been situated focusing sunlight onto the polar icecaps attempting to get the icecaps to slowly sublimate over time and increase atmospheric density. Right now it was difficult to breathe anywhere outside of Hellas.

ooc: Let me be very clear this time, no ooc beyond this point. This is an IC thread, don't like what you see? Go complain elsewhere. Do not post here unless you are seriously intending to participate in the rp with something based on your cn nation.

Weeks after the asteroids were tagged.. the Indra would return.. this time with a grapple that would fire and sink into the asteroid. It would take them a very long time, but with repeat trips they would start hauling large, multi-billion tonne rocks onto a collision trajectory with the north pole of mars.

Meanwhile on the surface, the orbital ring continued to drop expansion supplies daily and the colony grew as more habitation and hydroponics sections were added. The martian soil, when covered with the specially made green houses and tilled with fertilizer began to sprout plants in the internal, pressurized atmospheres.

Dread Space and his colleagues, in the mean time, were enjoying the light gravity of mars. Flight was relatively easy despite the light atmosphere and as the density of that atmosphere was increased, would grow progressively easier. Right now they could only fly up to the edge of Hellas crater, but in time that would change.

Weeks later, the first asteroid approached the pole. Indra was nowhere near by. The Asteroid had been simply tugged onto a collision course and let free. The multibillion ton rock and ammonia mix began re-entry to the pole. The Rover, which had neared the ice cap, was at a perfect point to watch the impact. The collision lit the landscape like a small sun as rock collided and ice sublimated. Billions of tons of greenhouse gasses, nitrogen and hydrogen entered the atmosphere. Violent earthquakes rocked the northern hemisphere. The colony had to brace itself for the seismic events.

Every couple of days the impacts would come. Indra didn't have to spend a remarkable amount of fuel in its work. They'd simply find an asteroid that would be apt to collide with Mars if given a nudge and gently tug it out of Jupiter's influence and just into the right orbital path around the sun.. finally it would hit the Martian gravity well and get hauled the rest of the way in. Sometimes they would have to do slight modifications to the trajectory to make sure it landed just right.. somewhere around the polar caps.

The rapid sublimation of the poles in combination with the addition of more and more atmosphere and inert gasses slowly began to push up the atmospheric pressure of mars and its ability to to retain heat. With that that, much of the ice sublimated under the heat and pressure of the asteroid impacts would not reform.

Maelstrom looked up from an observation telescope at the main space command center near Olympus looking back at the earth. It's fallout ridden, Kessler syndrome encased husk slowly dieing due to nuclear war and the stupidity of humanity. "Dumbest species in existence. Amazed they made it into space to begin with." He snorted. He looked to Dread Space, "How's the soil recovery going?"

Dread responded, "Iron extraction's going well, we've significantly decreased the soil toxicity around the crater. That will give ups more land to work with when we're ready to expand hydroponics. For now I've had R&D start introducing bacteria and other micro-organisms into the outside environment. We're also going to have Indra do a high altitude dispersion over-flight along the equator once she gets back from the latest Asteroid Tug mission. That should also help begin boosting overall gas conversion."

Pacing didn't alleviate the stress. They had come to mars earlier than Maelstrom hoped. While everything was on schedule it was still a delicate balancing act. "And methane conversion is still going well?"

"Mostly. We lost a drake yesterday when there was a spark near a gas vent. Fortunately they were able to cap the flame before it spread into the reservoir and get things under control."

"How's the atmosphere coming?"

"Pressure's increasing steadily. We hope to have a rise from average temperatures of 2-3 degrees within the year."

"Very good."

"It'll be a year or two until the greenhouse effect really starts to kick in. We should probably brace our structures for the changes to come. There's going to be a large amount of turbulence generated as the atmosphere begins to shift."

The day had finally come. Hellas was no longer the only place the Dragonisians could breath upon mars. The planet was still barren however, and it would be a very long time before water returned anywhere near them on a permanent basis. In the meantime, they'd have to produce it via their reactors and recycle it, retrieve it from reservoirs deep below the ground, or import it from reserves in the orbital ring. But to expand their operations they would have to obtain more. In the meantime, near the north pole, the bombardments had turned the ice to steam and with the surface levels now able to hold water without sublimation, a flood washed the rover away ending its communications with the base, the mine, or the colony.

Indra continued to check on the heating mirrors around the poles while bringing in more and more asteroids. In the moist areas, near the slowly forming oceans and rivers, the algae and extrememophiles spores which had been distributed throughout the atmosphere began to slowly turn the terrain from solid red, to a ruddy brown as the greens of their bloom mixed with the color of the rock. Mars was starting to support life.

Maelstrom was sipping his first taste of Martian potato vodka when Dread Space walked in, "Provisioning runs for the Moon Base and the stations has been completed. Earth is still terribly irradiated. You know, what should we do with those last humans we had in our program? We can't just leave them up there hanging."

Maelstrom tapped his jaw, "To have mercy on such a disgusting species...."

Koudoawaia sighed, "They weren't all bad you know. Our cosmonauts were brave and trusted us. They helped pave our way here."

Dread tilted his head waiting Maelstrom's final answer.

"Bring them here." He sighed. "We'll have to debrief them on what has happened. It won't be pretty. Put our crews on those stations."

"Sir you should see this.." One of the base astronomers barked.

Maelstrom looked through the telescope back to earth mere instances before the wave hit. And he realized, another part of him from another time was relocating everything he had created... "Interesting, causality inverted.."

He was abruptly gone from the Mars base and all of the human crew there was alive once more. All the Dragonisians had been returned to the new copy of Earth in their positions before the cataclysm forced them to mars. Only one remembered what had happened.. the Dreamer himself.

Mars was reverted to its pre-terraform initiation state.
