Despite a hard fought political campaign the result is a hung parliament in which the European Future Party (EFP) will be the largest party but will be 63 seats short of an overall majority. The EFP will have to consider either attempting to form a coalition with another party, or proceeding with a minority government instead.

The results of the Senate election are as follows. The Socialist Party (SP) has won 5,201,693 votes, the European Future Party (EFP) has won 3,468,489 votes, and both the Republican People’s Party (RPP) and the Justice & Development Party (JDP) have won 866,602 votes. The Electoral Council has reported that none of the four parties failed to pass the 8% threshold required to hold seats in the Senate. Of the 90 elected seats in the Senate, the Socialist Party will hold 46, the Republican People’s Party will hold 7, the European Future Party will hold 30 and the Justice & Development Party will hold 7. The remaining 10 seats in the Senate will be held by the military.
