Tanis777
Assault Rifle - Juniper Arms CAR-680
Information-Type: Assault RifleOfficial Name: Combat Assault Rifle, Caliber 6.80, CAR-680Manufacturer: Juniper Arms CompanyWeight: 3.1 kg (6.8 lb) (unloaded with 16 inch barrel) 3.0 kg (6.6 lb) (unloaded with 12 inch barrel)Length: 755 mm (29.72 in) (stock exteneded w/ 12" barrel) 680 mm (26.77 in) (stock collapsed w/ 12" barrel) 580 mm (22.83 in) (stock folded w/ 12" barrel) 920 mm (36.22 in) (stock exteneded w/ 16" barrel) 820 mm (32.28 in) (stock collapsed w/ 16" barrel) 755 mm (29.72 in) (stock folded w/ 16" barrel)Caliber: 5.56x45mm, 5.45x39mm Soviet, 6.8 mm Juniper SCC, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7mm Eastern Canadian SCCAction: Gas-operated rotating boltRate of fire: 700 rounds/minMuzzle velocity: 3,110 ft/s (948 m/s)Effective range: 5 position rear sight up to 600 m (656 yd)Feed System: 30 round STANAG Magazine, 100-round C-Mag drum magazineUnit Cost: $1275 HBCU The Juniper CAR-680 is the primary battle rifle of the Hudson Bay Federation Armed Forces. Juniper Arms has developed the CAR-680 with "Man-Machine-Interface", focusing on the system integration, operational ergonomics,logistics/maintainability, and spiral interoperability of such a weapon system to enhance tactical performance for Hudson Bay Federation military personnel for the mid-21st century. The lightweight barrel is chrome lined and manufactured by the hammer forging process in Calgary, Alberta, Juniper Arms Factory. While most of the world is using either 5.56x45mm (M16) or 7.62x51mm (M14) cartridges, the CAR-680 is designed in mind towards the new 6.8mm Juniper SCC (Special Combat Cartridge), optimized on a .30 Juniper cartridge for the best compromise of providing accuracy, reliability and terminal performance based off that the 6.5mm projectile is best for accuracy and the 7mm projectile is best terminal performance through tests. The 6.8mm round can easily best the former Soviet 7.62x39mm round by 61 m/s.-System Intergration- It comes equipped with a companion single-shot 40mm grenade launcher, called the PGL-680, which can be attached on a dedicated rail. No screws or latches are needed. Together, the CAR-680 and PGL-680, are a formidable weapon system. However, the PGL-680 is alone a standalone system when required. While the CAR-680 is base equipped with iron sights, full system integration can be had with the PGL-680 with a Fire Control System with Day/Night capabilities.-Operational Ergonomics- The CAR-680 caters to both right-handed and left-handed shooters as part of improvements in ergonomics. Juniper has developed one of the few ambidextrous assault rifles in the world with ambidextrous safeties, magazine catches and charging handles, the ability to change which side spent casings are ejected. The fire selector has a 82 degree rotation for quick mode selection without moving your firing hand. There are six sling attach swivel points that are strategically positioned for ease of use and comfort. Lastly, the CAR-680 has a fold-able telescopic with 4 collapsible positions to choose your best firing position and when not is use, fold for easy transport.-Logistics/Maintainability- One of the first things noticed of the CAR-680 is that there are no pins, thus making field stripping and maintenance easy. It uniquely has two receivers built mostly of high resistance polymers. Modular construction methods make replacement of sub-assembles fairly easy. The CAR-680 features a "Quick Change Barrel" that requires no tools to change barrels in just a matter of seconds at a press of a button. Available only in 12" and 16" barrel lengths at this moment.-Spiral Interoperability- Thanks to having four picatinny rails, the CAR-680 can nearly have unlimited customization from the base variant. Thus it is possible to enhance the tactical performance and operability by simply adding/removing accessories and components while maintaining the same platform. Accessories for the CAR-680 include: bayonet, laser sight, flashlight, silencer, various CQB sights (red-dot, ACOG, Holographic, etc.), tactical scope, front handle, and IR designator. Government agencies settled to two designs after extensive testing of nearly a dozens designs fielded for the competition, settling on submissions by Juniper Arms Company and Rocky Mountain Armaments Consortium. Juniper's PDW-50 is a selective fire, straight blowback-operated weapon with a rate of fire of 900 RPM. Construction makes heavy use of polymers for extremely reduced weight and cost. It utilizes a closed bolt to give the PDW-50 maximum accuracy. It is also fully fully ambidextrous and designed to be no longer than a man's shoulder. The use of the small-caliber, high-velocity bottlenecked cartridge 5.7x28 mm ammunition was a response to replace the 9mm Parabellum required by the new Hudson Bay CQB/PDW armament requirements. Weighing in at 6.0 g (93 grains), the 5.7x28mm is roughly half the weight of 9mm ammunition, meaning the same amount of ammunition to be carried for less weight, or allowing more ammunition to be carried for the same weight. While the round exhibits a loud report and considerable muzzle flash, but it produces roughly 30 percent less recoil than the 9×19mm cartridge, improving controllability. Lastly, the 5.7x28mm was designed for personal armor penetration, capable of penetrating a Level IIIA Kevlar vest at 200 m. Rocky Mountain's CQG-10 with it's armor piercing 4.6x30mm was in response to the proliferation of high-quality body armor has begun to make guns that fire pistol ammunition ineffective. Intended to be direct rival to the Juniper PDW-50, using a short stroke piston action similarly found on the G36 and HK416. The weapon allows a conventional 20-round, 30-round, or 40-round box magazine to be fit within the pistol grip (the 20-round magazine being comparable in size to a 15-round 9mm magazine, while the 40-round magazine compares to a 30-round 9 mm magazine). The weapon features an ambidextrous fire selector, bolt catch lever and magazine release. It has an extendable stock and a folding front grip; it can be fired either one-handed or two-handed. This ammunition is unique among submachine guns in that the bullet is made almost entirely of a hardened steel penetrator instead of softer copper or lead. The RMA 4.6x30mm is a truely unique cartiridge, with a has a muzzle velocity of 720 m/s (2,362 ft/s), which is nearly as high as that of a .223 Remington round. Tests have shown that the round can penetrate a protected target (20 layers of kevlar with 1.6 mm titanium backing) even at 200m. Tanis777
Federation Forces Command has given all field commanders in Saskatchewan withdrawal orders via ClassNet, a secure fiber optic based communication system for classified Federation military information up to secret. The tent cities and bases under construction in Saskatchewan would be handed over slowly to Neo Roman forces in the coming weeks. This was due to an impending turnover of Saskatchewan to Gaius and the Neo Roman contingent that was bound to arrive. The several divisions in Saskatchewan were ordered back into Manitoba over the next couple months in company-sized convoys so that overhead satellite surveillance would not detect anything out of the ordinary. The construction crews at the bases in Saskatchewan would remain until further notice and would maintain the tent city in the meantime. "Of course sir, the Arctic weather is fierce, but the trip into Yellowknife was quite smooth," replied Lt. Dilion Smith, "So why are we here?" "We're here to meet up with some Coasties... once the weather lightens up." *Some hours later* "Weather cleared up slightly sir, we'll need to fire up the UH-60." "Affirmative." Tanis777
Nathan Kipler Residence - 0200 On this particularly fateful morning, a group of UH-60s part of the 104th Special Operations Air Support Squadron were doing their "exercises" north of Winnipeg near Lake Manitoba. Instead of being empty, it was loaded to bear with several dozen Special Federation Service (SFS) troops enroute to the former Chancellor's residence. Dale Everett, held a lot of clout in the Federation deemed Kipler a liability if he spoke on the Prairie Union formation to the legislature and how it truly went down. "30 seconds to LZ," stated the Blackhawk pliot. He slowed on the throttle to get the UH-60 into a steady hover over the house as it came into site. "Okay boys, let's get ready, we're here! Lower the ropes," spoke Cpt. Jeff Patson into the squad radio. The ropes were thrown out and landed with a thud on the rooftop. The SFS troops dropped onto the roof one-by-one in succession and regrouped, some readying their guns as soon as got off. ________________________________________________________ "What the hell is that noise?" questioned Brianna Kipler, waking her husband up. "W-what honey?" said Mr. Kipler lazily. "There's some ruckus on the roof or something. Is that a helicopter?," stammered Brianna. "Yeah, oh..." replied Nathan. At that moment, the windows to their master bedroom shattered as smoke and flashbang grenades were tossed into the room. It was soon followed by loud shouts by the SFS breaking in, their MP7 sub-machine guns with holographic and laser sights shooting beaming red lines everywhere before settling on the couple. "Package secure, Capt'n," radioed Sgt. Edgar. "Affirmative, get the package to the extraction point right outside." The shouts and unanswered questions from the Kipler's continued until one of the men got fed up and sedated Mrs. Kilper as they roughly tossed them into the helicopter and it lifted off to a location further north. The SFS team didn't get in, but stayed behind to mess up the residence to when it went public, something else besides what just occurred was the official story. "Hello, Nathan." "Dale, my God, you did this?" "Of course. I needed you safe from the legislative commission the breakaway of Saskatchewan. I needed to ensure your 'departure'." "How so?" "Like this." "No..." screamed Nathan as Dale Everett put 3 rounds from his silenced P228. Then placed another 3 into Mrs. Kilper. "Dispose of the bodies," ordered Everett as the chopper flew over one of the many lakes in Northern Manitoba. As the chopper flew, Everett's assistants rolled the two bodies out of the chopper. DISD engineers, maintains command and control and enterprise infrastructure for continuous operations of the FDCN programs. In addition to the creation of DISD, the Ministry has also announced the next generation of programs governing FDCN.
Upgrades to Federation Defense Communications Network Programs to be Established - Secret Internet Protocol Network (SIPNet) An upgrade from SecureNet currently in use, SIPNet expands upon the lessons learned on SecureNet to provide unparalleled security of classified information up SECRET level. Physical security of the network is through the extensive use of fiber optic as the backbone infrastructure of the network on Federation bases, starting from each user device. This prevents the network from being hacked from the outside sources and immune from electromagnetic pulses. Devices with SIPNet will encrypt message to routers that will encrypt again to USIPNet routers for final encryption to the Federation WAN. In essence, it is the Federation's military secure Intranet. - Unclassified, Secure Internet Protocol Network (USIPNet) USIPNet is to be established to pass along unclassifed, yet deemed sensitive information between 'internal' users, while allowing access to all Internet services. This is still a private network guarded by intense firewalls, security software and using physical security of the Federation's IAC (Identification Access Card) and the 90-day PIN. - Joint Intelligence Communications Network (JICN) Similar to SIPNet; however, JICN allows the passage of Top Secret information between users, primarily between Federation intelligence agencies. The network itself is independent of the other programs with JICN with it's own infrastructure and devices to prevent external breaches. - Federation Defense Computing Environment (FDCE) The FDCE is the Federation's Defense community embracing cloud computing by providing users with "real-time" collaboration, virtual communication, finance, content, and other applications via a private portal on either SIPNet and USIPNet. - Defense EZ-Transfer Network (DEZTN) An non-secure voice, secure voice (up to SECRET), data and video conferencing services for the Federation military and is the primary system of communication for the military. - Defense Secure Voice Network (DSVN) The DSVN is a secure voice network to be provide voice and voice teleconferencing services between the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Joint Military Commanders, and select commanders to pass along Top Secret information during times of crisis, attack, or peace. OOC: My military non-secure, non-classified communications is USIPNet and DEZTN. However, the use of any wireless communications on is prohibited on all classified networks. I will detail my wireless communications security later. Only USIPNet devices can access the Internet apart from the internal Federation military network. Accessing classified Federation networks is impossible without physically getting onto the device.
_______________________________________________________________ Federation Army officials have agreed to phase out the M1A2 Abrams currently in service as the M20 Neville tanks are fielded in greater numbers. Tanis777
With the acceptance of being granted launch facilities in Florida by Greenland for satellite launches. Several flights of C-5 Galaxys loaded with initial communications, navigation, weather, and reconnaissance satellites left Lac du Bonnet Air Force Base earlier this morning to Cape Canaveral Air Force Base in Florida. The load of 20 satellites would be enough to begin regional coverage over the entire Canadian region with basic services to most mission-critical units needing such capabilities. It would take another week for the satellites to be ready for launch in rockets leased from the Greenlandic military.
Tanis777
The Federation has launched the a good portion of the navigation and communication satellites necessary for bring Federation forces a major step forward towards greater integration of communications and intelligence between ground, sea and air units to work together in achieving mission objectives. Activation is slated to start as soon as the necessary cryptographic equipment, keys, and security standards to achieve continuous uninterrupted satellite communications at constructed ground stations. Frequency for the various navigation and communication satellites would be given a Top Secret classification to help prevent knowledge to possible enemy forces initial knowledge of the RF bands used by the Federation. _______________________________________________________________________________ To improve on the collection of SIGINT for the Federation Armed Forces, a contract for an airborne SIGINT, enemy radar emitter systems intelligence, and MASINT would be issued to Falcon Aerospace. It would be based on the composite widebody jet that they sold as the FL-800 commercially as a 220-300 passenger jet. The military selected the plane due to it's ability to save in operating costs, scalability, and ability to operate with the modern fleet of aircraft in service with the Federation Air Force. While it was one model, it is planned that three variants would be made to serve the three different needs for Federation intelligence gathering efforts in the eve of a possible outbreak of a war. Test flights would be conducted within a year's time. _______________________________________________________________________________ As of this week, a flight of three C-17 Globemaster aircraft with 6 F-22s left for Colombia with a team of communication specialists along with deemed sensitive, but unclassified information and equipment that was locked in a Top Secret-level vault on one of the cargo jets. Their mission was to advise the Colombian military on the development of securing their communication networks as well as provide tips on network intelligence as best they could without compromising Federation secrets. Tanis777
The Federation Security Intelligence Agency (FSIA) continued rolling out a nation-wide standardization of classified cryptographic equipment to all governmental departments as Chancellor Logan authorized FSIA control of all cryptographic standards, algorithm development, key issuance, hardware development, and security policies some months ago. The Defense Ministry in cooperation with the FSIA would construct to military intelligence gathering installations near Yellowknife and another east of Winnipeg. Along with that, other smaller axillary buildings and rooms would be built on many Federation bases to secure classified information work being conducted at those base as well being part of the base where cryptographic equipment handling classified data, voice, and network would be installed at to handle the SIPNet, JICN, DEZTN, and DSVN protocols. It would handle the 'middleman' operations between the internal classified base network to the classified WAN between other Federation bases throughout the nation. This construction would meet DEMES emanations certification standards against compromising emantions as well as FSIA security standards for classified information. Along with CSIB, all information deemed Top Secret would never be handled by one person, always with at least two people with the proper clearance and training on handling TS information.
Classified Separation Information Building (CSIB) Top Secret Memo General Wallace Schin, Director of the Federation Security Intelligence Agency The Standards - Meet and exceed DEMES emanations certification. DEMES will test CSIB facilities at least three times a year officially, there will be surprise inspections by DEMES members to ensure EMSEC standards are met. - The facilities will utilize specially designed acoustic dampening panels, thick doors, specific concrete thickness construction, welded air vents, closed air systems to meet DEMES certification. - All facilities will handle all three levels of Federation classified materials using FSIA physical security standards for each level. - All SCIB will utilize alarm systems with a maximum 5 minute response time by base security guards. Maintenance of alarms will be weekly by SCIB facility members. - Any commercial electronic items will not be allowed beyond the SCIB entry area. - SCIB physical security will adhere to the minimum FSIA requirements, additional security will be determined by the base commander and a FSIA security liaison. - Minimum security requirements for initial entry - Alarms with fast response time - CCTVs with face recognition technology - Internally published Authorized Access List - Those not the list, who has a 'need to know', proper ID, and sufficient security clearance must be escorted by a SCIB member at all times who has the proper security clearance and authorized access that part of the SCIB. That person(s) will have to sign in and out on Federation Air Force Form 2902, Army Form 5738, Navy Form 2934 or FSIA Form 1959, variations of the SCIB Visitor's Access Log - Armed Guards - Metal Detectors - FSIA approved door with automatic door closer, combination lock, and access control - Additional security measures would include retina scans, fingerprint scanners, weight measures, etc. - SCIB is deemed a restricted area on all Federation military installations, along with flight lines and command posts. Those attempting unauthorized access will be met with deadly force as like other restricted areas. - All equipment in a SCIB must be able to continually operation in all conditions to include the event of emergency, civil unrest or natural disaster. - SCIB personnel will have a plan to destroy classified information and equipment in light of an event of emergency, civil unrest or natural disaster. - SCIB vaults will be of Class "A" nature consisting of at least 12" reinforced concrete with steel doors with a duel combination lock - All SCIB personnel will not disclose SCIB level information outside an approved SCIB - SCIB facilities are compartmented with different SCIB work centers or rooms based on a particular SCIB personnel's job. As such, SCIB personnel will only enter particular work centers predetermined by their job and will be indicated by their badge where they have access to. They will only have the 'need to know' to particular classified information at the Top Secret level based on their job and 'need to know'. Tanis777
New projects that were being currently proposed for initial contract design and prototype development has been suspended as the Federation legislature has cut R&D portion of the 20XX budget due to fiscal constraints imposed by the massive cost being incurred in the cleanup and recovery of Winnipeg. Current projects would continue be funded as deemed of great importance to national security. There was one project that was approved in the wake of destruction of Winnipeg that would be approved through the legislative members that were part of the Armed Services Committee, which was the prompt development of an anti-ballistic missile shield system while other projects had their funding cut. OOC: Will be picking up the Winnipeg recovery thread this weekend, finally. _____________________________________________________ Federation Space Command has launched most of the satellites that they were ordered to send into orbit from Cape Canaveral Air Force Base to cap the first generation of communications, navigation, and surveillance satellites for military use to give Federation forces expanded continental mission capability. ______________________________________________________ Federation forces that were in Alaska have pulled back into the Yukon Territory region. Tanis777
The Federation Air Force has procured the first operational variants of the Falcon Aerospace commercial FL 800 to be part of the new class of reconnaissance aircraft, named the Reconnaissance Surveillance Aircraft 240 (RSC-240) to fulfill SIGINT, MASINT and other real time reconnaissance roles to improve the Federation's warfighting capabilities against potential adversaries. RSC-240C Airseeker Designed to fulfill the FAF airborne SIGINT platform role, it's sensor suite is designed to allow the crew to detect, identify, and geolocate signals throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. The Airseeker's extensive communication suite can allow the crew to forward gathered information to a wide array of consumers through a wide variety of communication formats. Along with a cockpit crew, the RSC-240 C usually has electronic warfare officers, intelligence operators, and airborne systems maintenance personnel. The Federation Air Force plans to have 24 RSC-240Cs in service, operating as part of Air Combat Command, through the 60th Air Wing at Playgreen Lake AFB. All airframe and mission systems modifications are through Polar Communications, based in Gimli, Manitoba, under the oversight of FISA and Air Material Command. RSC-240D Ghost Flyer The RSC-240D variant is designed to collect technical intelligence on adversary radar emitter systems. Data collected from this aircraft is then to develop new or upgraded radar warning receivers, jammers, decoys, anti-radiation missiles, and training simulators. There are antennae arrays on the nose, tail, and wingtips to distinguish it from other aircraft. Minimum crew consists of 2 pliots, 2 navigators, 3 system engineers, 10 electronic warfare officers, and 6 area specialists. There is a planned 6 RSC-240D to be built to be based at Playgreen Lake AFB. RSC-240E Big Watcher Developed for the MASINT role, it is equipped with special electro-optical instruments designed to observe ballistic missiles flights at long range. Big Watcher monitors missile-associated signals and tracks missiles during boost and re-entry phases to provide reconnaissance for theather ballistic missile proliferation. Three RSC-240E are to be built and attached to the 60th Air Wing at Playgreen Lake AFB. ____________________________________________________________ Federation Space Command has finalize the design of the newest class of surveillance satellites to observe and track ballistic missiles.
