  1. I was attempting to refute the comment about spreading rumors in the OP. With something that supports the whole premise of an underground vengeance movement. I don't feel any shame about the decisions NATO made as an alliance. If we had chosen to uphold our treaties with \m/ and MK, we would have been turning our backs on the ones we held with NPO, NpO, Atlantis and most importantly to us, MHA. We weren't looking for acceptance of an apology, we just wanted to express our reasoning.

And since we're just going to continue to go around in circles, a mod can close this thread.

  2. From the Office of the Secretary General

Note: Yes, this is a wall of text and most everyone will just read the tl;dr. But I have a lot to get off of my chest.

September has been the most tumultuous month in the history of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. We started the month with our first offensive war, a very successful campaign in support of our protectorate CATS against ALMEA. We have strengthened ties through new MADP treaties with Pacifica, Polaris and Atlantis. We have forged new ties with brothers in arms Nueva Vida and ICON. We have confirmed our brotherhood with MHA by joining them in attacking GOONS. We have relied on restraint and patience and have succeeded in keeping the Common Defense Treaty in existence and now back to pre-September strength, despite the extraordinary occurrence of having one of our partners fighting on the other side in the Great War. And despite taking many nuclear attacks during the war, we have continued to be a cohesive, determined alliance.

Extraordinary times illicit extraordinary emotions. And NATO has taken its share of insults and anger due to its decision to join the war on the side of ~. While we went underground to focus all of our attention on the GOONS offensive, we did little on the world forum to defend our decision. The facts are clear. I take full responsibility for not canceling out MADP with \m/ and our MDP with Mushroom Kingdom prior to engaging in the TriJust offensive with MHA and Atlantis. While we had in the final analysis more ties to ~ than UJP, this step should have been taken but it wasn't. And while I have personally apologized in private to both MK and \m/, the one sided character assaults on the world forum have required and official response.

We have no regrets when it comes to choosing to fight and risk everything in opposition to GOONS. There was never any question about it. In NATO, we have a saying that has been the cornerstone to virtually all of our diplomatic and political efforts in the past 6 months: Rappeler le Gars Blanc Muet. Remember Dumb White Guy. Our experience with GOONS and deep resentment towards them can be traced back to this one ruler. The man who stole millions from us and fled to GOONS, and was given protection and eventually became one of their leaders. We remember GOONS members laughing at us when we tried to get justice, and remember having to actually plead our case to him directly when an EoG happened to be a NATO member. This is the illustration that paints the image of GOONS, and we had to act to ensure that what went around to us came straight back to them in time.

And so we joined the war with a clear sense of our enemy. Our only real hesitation was what it would mean to our longtime allies in \m/. But the weeks preceding the war were filled with tension with \m/ that contributed to our decision. Most rulers in the cyber verse may not be aware of the strong ties that NATO and \m/ have shared over time. Many of our founding members went on to \m/. It has often been said that \m/ leadership was composed of NATO members that were sick of diplomacy. In GW3 we helped them fight RnR. During FAN and Legion, we offered assistance but accepted \m/'s wishes to stay on the sideline and help with any secondary wars. And \m/ supported us by warning off any jumpers into our war with ALMEA.

But then the Unjust Path was formed, and the bans of \m/ leadership occurred and those former NATO members that had moved to \m/ many months ago came home. We accepted back into our ranks, and very much in the lead of our decision making, good friends Zamboanga, Calvin, DarkShadow and The Pansy. Tensions between us soared, and solidified our intentions to cast aside our fellowship and attack their ally.

We hold out hope that those \m/embers that were against their alliance's movements in support of GOONS and their bullying of the rest of CN make their way to join their comrades once again in NATO. Yet we hear through various sources plans of going underground, infiltrating alliances and staying secretly organized until the climate is ripe for a resurgent war against the Orders and the forces of light. So while we welcome those that we have known and trusted, we remain vigilant to ensure that no one from this movement infiltrates our ranks. We pledge our support for the good that is the Allies, and anyone wishing to start anew in our alliance must understand and support that as well.

Hail ~, Hail Justice, Hail NATO!

Tl;dr - We made mistakes leading up to the war, we believe in what we are fighting for and are in it against GOONS till the end, we miss what was the true \m/, we open our doors to former NATO members that wish to start over, we are wary of rogues and plans of patient insurrection.

tl;dr2 - wake me up when September ends.

  3. I've been extraordinarily impressed with IRON's abilities in this war. From organization and follow through to determination and communication, they have really done well. And of course I have to mention NATO and our ramp up strategy so far against GOONS. Preparing for a long war, increasing our offensives daily and smart target choices has worked out well so far (especially considering we had a change of military leadership after the first 2 days).

On the UJP side, I only know GOONS during this fight, so not really qualified to pick a best. But individually, ACID HEAD has been a very worthy adversary (on the battlefield, definitely taking it to me).

  4. apologies to Archon and others from me. to L_E, Virillus and others from NATO.

There are really only two sides right now. Split between either side of the Just. But the real reason why the world is at war is that one alliance was taking over the political and military landscape. And the rest of the globe is fighting to ensure it doesn't happen. When friends are on the other side, choosing to fight dominance is heart wrenching. But we have chosen to fight for the side we believe in.

  5. If you read the time line you will see that they did in fact vote to go to war before the NPO/NpO drama and put it off in the name of stability. BoTS continued to agitate Genmay, How many slaps in the face do you expect them to take?

This is a very solid point. Genmay has given very fair terms and has shown extraordinary patience in their dealing with BotS. With all respect to NpO aside, Genmay could definitely not be faulted for rushing into anything. When your small alliance partner or protectorate is acting all asshaterrific, it is a bad reflection on you and you should be taking serious steps to ensure de-escalation. (note that I have no idea what is goign on behind the scenes and maybe NpO has been doing exactly that. If so, they should seriously reconsider their status with BotS)
