  1. I am simply pointing out that there seems to be a pattern of Sengoku attempting to push its position using the strength of others. If I was a serious alliance like NPO I would be looking at whether such people might be political liabilities in a stability-based bloc. But maybe you guys offer something in backrooms that us commoners can't see.

I don't think you're in a position to make that kind of assessment with any merit. You could always try to join one of their allies and secure a position in government though.

  2. Nothing we could have done about it last war either, doesn't mean you should sit idle and wait, call out your opponents for their stupidity before your rolling and see how many of their allies stick around post war.

Except, sengoku didn't do anything stupid? If they did launch attacks it would be to goad a vulnerable potential opponent into doing something foolish, or to gather information (like warchest data) which might be useful. Further, if they did it with the sanction of their friends and allies, then poking at you would seem a completely reasonable course of action.

If on the other hand, you all are just making drama without cause, you're only serving to underscore why mi6 should be the target of another war. In either case I can't see a situation in which this conversation is a boon to your cause rather than just another nail in your coffin.

  3. A "normal" protectorate means protection from raids. It's a near-necessity for a small alliance in this world to get a chance to do something other than fend off raids. It does not obligate the protector to intervene in normal wars in any fashion whatsoever - and should not. It's a protectorate, not a farm-team. (Some protectorates are actually farm teams, but you should find language reflecting that in the agreement in that case, it has to be spelled out because it's not inherent or implied in the concept.) So it is supposed to have an independent foreign policy and be able to take actions and face the consequences of those actions without interference. A mandatory defense clause, if it existed, would arguably defeat the purpose of the protectorate entirely, and at any rate is certainly not inherent or implied in one.

Also I just remembered something odd that I noticed earlier, and confirmed again now. Sovereign Order claims to protect Sons of Anarchy in their alliance bio. If they can protect another alliance, then they have outgrown their own protectorate, and it was overdue to either be cancelled or upgraded anyway.

As someone who has signed a number of protectorates I'll just say that I've always considered protection to be general and more or less equivalent to a defensive clause (but that it is mandatory only for the protector and perhaps encouraged for the protected). You might disagree with that philosophy, but given that SNX felt it was necessary to cancel the treaty, I'd say it is likely their interpretation is closer to mine than to yours (otherwise there would have been no need for them to involve themselves at all).

As rush said, a good protectorate relationship is like being a good parent. You're taking responsibility for a small new alliance and giving them the resources/support and safety necessary to develop. It's much broader than the minimal assistance you outlined.
  4. Well I can certainly admit when I am wrong. TOP fought just as hard or harder than most people this war and agreeing to 3 weeks of war to get its allies out plus agreeing to keep everyone that was in warmode out of peace mode was clearly not pixel hugging.

Good fight TOP, and for the first time ever...

    O/ TOP

I'd like to take a moment to say that this statement surprised me. For the most part my interactions on the owf with you could be characterized as poor. I've assumed you to simply be a dogmatic opponent, and that regardless of our behavior or actions you would universally find fault. Credit where credit is due though, I appreciate that I have also misjudged you, and that you are not the cynical partisan I supposed you to be.

Regarding the extension to the war. I think it is unfair to say that it was an onerous condition. It is one we accepted, in light of delays we had made over uncertainty regarding the question of additional support on the front. This could have evolved into an entrenched issue, IRON could have made hard demands or imposed measures which have established precedent, but they instead opted for restraint. Furthermore the term meant offering an exit to our allies, and those who had supported us in the war and on the front. It also gave us a defined table for our exit that was largely in line with soft dates that had already been suggested.

The basic fact of the matter is that this war, while started in aftermath was an answer to policies largely determined by ourselves, and a few other parties in the coalition. There were grievances and historical animosities to be answered for, so while in form we were simply a tertiary front far removed from the center of the fight- the conflict remained largely concerned with ourselves. In this context, the need or desire for satisfying closure, or a complete fight shouldn't be seen as something exceptional, but quite typical. I think I speak for everyone involved in this, that we're happy to put these matters to bed, and to close the book rather than letting this be the start of a sequel.

We've recently completed another round of faux-elections and oligarchical/bourgeois reshuffling. The state is growing stronger, and the bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the bureaucracy. Times are prosperous, and just as the great helmsman once foretold, nuclear war has not only failed to impede the march of history, it has quickened its pace- the hour of a true people's victory is upon us.
