Proposal for a Railway Line

The Kingdom of Cochin proposes to construct a trans Himalayan Railway line from Cochin to the town of Ratnagiri in Dragonisia. Currently all travel between our two nations are through air route and this imposes a restriction on trade between our two nations and also transport of goods to Ratnagiri for Cochin's foreign trades.

We propose to construct this railway line from our Xinjiang provinces to Dragonisia's Kashmir territory and from then on either laying a fresh railway track all the way to Ratnagiri or to link up with existing Dragonisian railway network.

The Kingdom of Cochin is prepared to meet the entire costs for this endeavour.

We seek the response of the Govt of Dragonisia.

In that case we shall contract some of the work in the Dragonisian lands to public or private companies in Dragonisia. The work on Cochin side is starting today.

We would also like to know if Dragonisia wishes a fresh line all the way to Ratnagiri or integration with Dragonisian railway network already in place?

We thank Chairman for his cooperation.

GOSREE TIMES

19-05-2009

We have just had report that Secretary of Transportation, Mrs. Andrea Stephen has awarded the contract for construction of the Cochin side of the new Cochin-Dragonisian Railway to Larsen and Toubro Pvt Ltd. L&T is a premier construction and infrastructure development company and is one of the Navaratnas of Cochin industry. L&T spokesperson said to the media that they would cooperate with Military Engineers Corps for the special expertise required for constructing the railway line through the Himalayas.

The work on the railway is tasked on a priority basis and preliminary work is now started by MEC using the National Reserve Stocks. These shall be replaced by L&T after the execution of the work.

"All Clear!! Fire in the Hole!!"

The strategically positioned explosives blew off the offending piece of rock.

The work is going on at a fast pace on the railway line. The engineers of L&T are now extending the railway line at Passu an idyllic village nestled in the lush green Himalayan Valleys. The L&T and MEC Joint Project were extending a concrete rebarred railway right of way with a concrete based, tarred road adjacent. The roads and rights of way were being extended first by teams of demolition engineers from MEC and L&T. The craggy peaks of the terrain were proving to be a tough match for the hardy machines of Cochin.

5 Kms behind the right of way teams were the road work teams, who were concreting the freshly leveled rights of way with concrete blocks in a hexagon-pentagon fashion taking into consideration the soil erosion that is rampant in the region. The concrete blocks which were cast at the main casting yard back in Cochin were trucked in by a convoy of trucks. These blocks are made of special concrete that is resistant to snow damage.

Another 5 Kms behind the road work teams were the rail layers and road builders. They were laying the double lane rails at a brisk pace supplied by a train from Cochin which was following the rail work. Close by the road workers were asphalting the road tarmac so that an excellent two lane highway may adjoin the railway on completion of the network.

On the whole the project is going on very satisfactorily indeed. Already a base casting yard was being built at Amarnath in Dragonisia for the second phase of rail laying.

The railway construction team from the Cochin side has brought the line until jaglot passing through the idyllic towns of karimabad and gilgit. The most toughest stretch is now ahead of the team the mountain wall between jaglot and skardu. The trains from main casting yard are now bringing tonnes of prefab tundra concrete blocks for this arduous phase of rail laying. The engineers of L&T and MEC are sweating despite the icy cold winds of the Himalayas.

Centered around the towns of Amarnath and Pahalgaum the second casting yard is now operational. They are tasked with extending the rail line from Skardu until Jammu Tawi where it shall link up with existing Dragonisian rail network. This team is composed of MEC, L&T and Dragonisian military engineers. They are now creating the railway one limb towards Skardu and the other limb towards Jammu Tawi. With these three simultaneous jobs going on the Trans Himalayan Railway is going to come online very fast .

"There goes the last 100 metres."

The senior engineer from Larsen and Toubro exclaimed as a series of rocky outcrops that blocked the path of right of way was blown up by L&T's demo teams. The town of Skardu was in sight and reaching there his work will be finished. From there onwards it is the duty of the other teams.

Tonnes of explosives have been used up for this railway work and the tonnes of rock that has been blasted are being trucked back to Cochin in a long shuttle of trucks which bring in concrete, food and explosives while taking back broken rocks.

The MEC had conveyed strict instructions to the construction crew that no waste must be littered on the picturesque Himalayan mountains.

In the valleys the second team is one third of its way to Skardu and the third team is quarter of its way to Jammu Tawi.

The first train to reach Skradu was carrying tonnes of prefab concrete for the remaining spurs in the Skardu-Pahalgaum rail link. The roads which have been declared open is seeing a convoy of trucks going to and fro with construction materials and cleared debris.

The 4 lane all weather highway from Cochin to Ratnagiri which is called Trans Himalayan Highway is already operational though formal inauguration will have to wait until the inauguration of the Trans Himalayan Railway.

The crew of various construction teams were now working with increased vigor as the end was in sight for their arduous work. Though the pay is excellent and they had access to excellent food and medical services the intense cold and unreal weather of the Great Himalayas was wearing them down. Now they all looked forward to their comfortable homes and barracks in Cochin.

The team which extended the line from Cochin to Skardu were already back at Cochin planning on how to spend their huge bonuses and mourning for their fellow workers who were less fortunate as the mountains took their price from the puny humans who were carving upon it and extending a man made monstrosity across its heart. Fully 32 men from L&T and MEC had perished due to the excessive cold weather and ferak blizzards that plagued the construction. Apparently the mountains did not care that it was summer. The engineers and supervisors were still blessing their stars that not a single life was lost due to any lack of safety measures. However despite the stringent safety measures the Mountains have a way for making people pay.

The families of men who had died on the work were given ample pension by the Kingdom and the King had personally written a letter to every family. After all they had given up their life for the Kingdom!!

In honor of these men who died on duty the King of Cochin has ordered a memorial to be built by the mountain of rubble that has been accumulated. This rubble mountain shall be accumulated at the borders of Cochin where the Trans Himalayan Railway enters Dragonisia to form a man made mountain with an eternal flame atop. Thus every passenger who travels down this line shall feel grateful for the men who laid down their lives to make their comfort possible.

The Railway has been completed. Braving and surmounting herculean challenges the engineers from MEC, L&T and Dragonisian military have succeeded in creating a rail corridor from Cochin to Jammu Tawi where it has been linked to the Dragonisian railway system.

The King of Cochin requests the presence of Chairman Maelstrom Vortex for a consummation ceremony we propose to be conducted at the barren tundra wastes of Skardu where the greatest of battles against Nature was fought. The King of Cochin shall travel in his train from Cochin and Chairman could come from Jammu Tawi. Together we can light an eternal flame representing the ultimate will of man.

Meanwhile we are sending the X Infantry Regiment to Ratnagiri by a troop train for further transit to the Republic of Free Somal.
