LIFT OFF!

ESA-rocket-launch-0009.jpg

Great Lakes State Space Agency (GLSSA) has launched their first satellite since the TUO-GLS war. Their previous satellites were destroyed during the war. GLSSA has not stated what type of satellite they have launched into the outer space.

-------

Classified, rebuilding of anti-aircraft/missile/ship defenses:

Rebuilding of all anti-aircraft and missile defenses are to begin. The satellite that was recently launched by GLSSA will be used to locate any hostile cruise missiles that fly up to the outer space to target Great Lakes State. Surface-to-Surface and Air-to-Surface missile defenses will be constructed in all buildings that enemy forces will target in times of war, such as harbors, airports, power plants, railroad stations, canal locks, government buildings, military bases, industrial areas, and etc.

Anti-aircraft defense systems are also to be constructed in the same buildings that the missile defenses will be built in.

The missile defense system will consist of 40mm automatic turrets and anti-missile missile launchers. The 40mm turrets are to shoot out any incoming shells, bombs, slow missiles, and low flying hostile aircraft.

The anti-aircraft defense systems will consist of 40mm automatic turrets, and "fire-and-forget" missile launchers.

Anti-ship defense systems will be built in any coastline area, buildings that are close to the coastline, and underwater. They will consist of torpedo and anti-ship missile launchers. This will give enemy naval fleets a tough time getting close to the coastline without being fired upon. Wired/battery powered radar emitter devices are to be placed underwater and will fool enemy ships into thinking they are submarines. It will distract them from targeting our real submarines and divert their firepower away from us since they will see hundreds of seem-like submarines through radar.

"Certainly. All Disparuean troops within GLS shall be withdrawn immediately. If you still need help, just let us know."

Expeditionary Command - Regional HQ

Canalave, Coronet, Disparu

He was examining an interactive world map that was being displayed on one of the screens in front of him. It was an extremely awesome map - it could display a section of the planet in different formats, from a normal static political map to a satellite image that was updated regularly. The map slowly zoomed into North America and stopped when the Disparu-GLS border was in full view.

GLS's government had asked them to withdraw Disparuean troops from their nation, and the Disparuean Government assured them that they will. But would they actually do it? Of course not. The combined allied force still greatly outnumbered the GLS's military, and they could easily annex the GLS with little to no resistance. He imagined the border between the two nations disappearing, and Disparu beginning to expand westward, eventually annexing all of the Great Lakes States.

Sighing, the janitor continued to move along, cleaning the workstations as he went. If he had only thought about his future, he would've actually been the Commander and expanded Disparu's territory into the GLS, and not stuck in a command centre cleaning dusty workstations. Oh well.

REPLY TO FRANK SWATER

"Very well, seems that we have achieved our objectives well. The GLS is well on the way to recovery and, hopefully, prosperity."

CLASSIFIED

The order to withdraw troops from the GLS was duly transmitted to all Army commanders and generals in the GLS, but they also contained a secret order instructing the commanders and generals to delay withdrawing the troops from the GLS as much as possible. You see, some...elements in the Department of Defense entertained the thought of annexing the GLS as a state of New England, like they had done with the former New France (now Maine). Who cared about what the GLS population thought? The troops, along with Disparuean troops, vastly outnumbered anything the GLS could muster. An uprising on any scale would be easily crushed by the overwhelming might and prowess of the New Englander army and their Disparuean allies, as well as the DSSP (former Stasi).

But of course, these elements in the Department of Defense more likely will not get their way, but they would try, nevertheless...

Denial of Access Project:

(A simple color coded map of a slice of the defense lines.)

defense.jpg

Yellow: A line of heavily fortified and armored signal jammer dish towers, defended by clusters of 80mm automatic armor piercing turrets. They will greatly reduce the enemy forces' efficiency by jamming their radio over a large area.

Red: A line of heavily fortified and armored anti-missile/shell missile launchers, also defended by the same turrets.

White: A thick line of heavily fortified and armored anti-aircraft missile launchers. They fire various kinds of missiles, primary the soon-to-be-developed advanced "fire-and-forget" missiles (OOC: Link to info here: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...&p=1987139), standard "fire-and-forget" missiles, and various fireworks missiles (Info link: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...t&p=1982387 and http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...t&p=1982667 ). They are defended from bombs with the same type of turrets.

White gray: A thick line of heavily fortified and armored artillery guns of various sizes. They will have the soon-to-be developed anti-artillery systems, allowing them to target enemy artillery guns by tracing the original location of shells and fire back at that location. They are also protected by the same type of automatic turrets.

Gray: A line of .337 automatic mini gun turrets, .45 caliber, .50 caliber, 20mm, 40mm, and 80mm automatic turrets. The weapons controlled directly by the soldiers are 200mm anti-tank cannons, .50 caliber machine guns, .337 mini guns, grenade launchers, .50 caliber semi-automatic sniper rifles, 20mm rapid fire cannons, 40mm rapid fire cannons, 80mm cannons, and rocket launchers. They are the main and final line of defense against enemy ground forces. Plus, there are lines of very small holes hidden from view connecting to underground pumps to the "No Man Land" area in front of the main ground defense line. They spill Mobility Denial System, aka ultra slippery liquid, out onto the flat, smooth "No Mans Land".

Light Blue: A "No Man's Land", more accurately, "A Gateway to -bleep-". The entire area is covered with the layer of ultra slippery liquid during wars and have no cover of any kind. Enemy soldiers and vehicles that manage to climb up on the slippery end of the "No Mans Land" will find it nearly impossible to advance against the slow flowing current of the slippery liquid while surviving GLS's line of fire. The "No Man's Land" is covered with reinforced concrete so the liquid can't soak into the ground. If too many enemy ground forces gather onto the "No Man's Land", then the pumps in the main ground force defense line will kick into overdrive, pumping much more of the liquid from the massive underground liquid storage tanks out onto the vast flat area, flushing most of the enemy ground forces off the "No Man's Land". They are only covered with the liquid in times of war.

Light Green (OOC: A bit hard to see, look closely between the light blue and dark green): This is the area where most of the ground movements are prevented. It is sloped on a one meter over two meters, making a 22.5 degree ultra slippery climb with the liquid flowing against them. Most soldiers and vehicles will find it impossible to climb onto the "No Man's Land" without helicopters' airlifts, and helicopters are set to be the first targets in all of the turrets' computers. They covered with reinforced concrete so the liquid can't soak into the ground.

Dark Green (OOC: On the bottom of the map): During war, this area would be soaked with the liquid flowing from the "No Man's Land", turning into a large slippery mud field.

The canal locks would simply receive ramped up defenses with radar jamming radio towers built inside them and around the. In water area where other nations have access to, there will be anti-ship/missile/aircraft/bombs/shell and radio jamming systems set up on the coastline, though not enough to form a massive concrete wall since most of them will be hidden under the shallow water until activated.

These defense systems will be built on the GLS border, once when the Disparu and New England fully withdraw their military. To speed up their withdrawal, we decided to delay our joint research project with New England to speed up the withdrawal.

To avoid catching attention, we are simply going to build border wall that can be upgraded to a much larger border wall with more firepower. There will be a few anti-missile/air defenses with defensive turrets setup, capable of being upgraded greatly.

The Department of Defense has announced that they will begin the construction of border walls as an protection from future external threats given the military's still developing technologies. They also plan on building some anti-missile/air defenses to protect the border walls.

Private, from Frank Swater, to New England and Disparu:

"How long is it going to take to fully withdraw your military from Great Lakes State?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Classified:

After a minor researching, we finally managed to scrap up the basics of a rail and coil gun. These new weapons, if fully developed, would be deadly anti-armor guns against enemy tanks and even our own M1 Abrams tanks. They would also be instant kill weapons against enemy ships.

Also, our new Demolisher tank class, which is under development...

The tank will obviously be extremely slow due to its sheer weight of the armoring and weapons. Its main purpose is to destroy or disable even the toughest, heaviest enemy tanks while being able to protect itself.

Cannon size: 280mm, fire rate is one shell per 10 seconds.

Turret's nest (on top of the turret) weapons: a .50 caliber machine gun and 20mm cannon. It will also have an anti-missile missile launcher which fires "fire and forget" anti missile missiles, and an anti aircraft missile launcher which fires "fire and forget" missiles at low flying aircraft.

Armoring: It is very similar to M-1 Abrams Tank's armoring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams#Armor, with some modifications. The depleted uranium mesh covers all parts of the tank, not just the front hull and turret. The overall armoring has the same strength in all parts of the tank (except for the side parts of the tracks, they instead have thicker depleted uranium mesh and shock absorbing gel). Most of the shock absorbing gel is mixed with the uranium mesh and others on more vulnerable parts, such as mechanical gears, weapons, and the turret. The armoring underneath the tank is designed to funnel explosions outward, thickest in the center and on the edges, thinnest on the front and back edges, rendering landmines useless. However, unlike the first proposed tank, the overall armoring is thinned and has twice the amount of shock absorbing gel to make it up for the reduced armoring. There will also be shock absorbers (aka dampers) located in the mechanical gears, windows, and fragile equipments to prevent mechanical/equipment failures and window shattering. The overall armor thickness is about 50 cm.

To protect the machine gunners and the tank drivers, the bullet resistant window reinforced with depleted uranium mesh and the armoring surrounding it is thickest part of the armoring. Behind those windows are thick steel hatches in case if the windows are completely busted open.

Weight: Extremely heavy, probably 90 ton or something from all of those armoring and weapons. It will pose a problem when transporting it to the front line, and a problem to enemy tanks.

Speed: Max speed is around 20mph on road. Rarely travels on road since the weight can rip up weak roads and fall through bridges unless if in combat.

Max operational distance: 190 miles.

Weak spots: The windows. Once blown out, the operators would have to slam close to steel hatches and backtrack all the way back to the repair site. A bunker buster or a high powered AT missile can smack fatal damages into the tank. High explosive weapons would have little effect on the tank's armoring since it is filled with shock absorbing gel and shock absorbers (aka dampers). It would take multiple heavy carpet bombing with powerful high explosive bombs/missiles to shatter the tank to the point where it suffers from serious internal damages or is disabled.

Utterly devastating to enemy forces in close combat area and enemy tanks from all ranges. The only main concern is enemy helicopters launching suicide missions to fire their nasty wire-guided AT missiles.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Distractor tank class, under development:

Cannon size: 140mm, has a compression air system in it to add extra punch to its shells at the cost of reduced fire rate (to prevent damages caused by kickbacks). The compression air system can be turned down or up depending on the situation, such as encountering other enemy super armored tanks, multiple enemies, or faraway enemies.

Turret's nest (on top of the turret) weapons: A single "fire-and-forget" missile launcher

Armoring: It is very similar to M-1 Abrams Tank's armoring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams#Armor, with some modifications. The depleted uranium mesh covers all parts of the tank, not just the front hull and turret. The overall armoring has the same strength in all parts of the tank (except for the side parts of the tracks, they instead have thicker depleted uranium mesh). The armoring underneath the tank is designed to funnel explosions outward, thickest in the center and on the edges, thinnest on the front and back edges, rendering landmines useless.

To protect the tank operators, the bullet resistant window reinforced with depleted uranium mesh and the armoring surrounding it is thickest part of the armoring. Behind those windows are thick steel hatches in case if the windows are completely busted open.

Weight: Extremely heavy, probably 110 ton or something from all of those uranium mesh covering, thicken armoring, and large weapons. It will pose a problem when transporting it to the front line, and enemy's wire-guided AT missiles since the armoring is over 1 meter thick, mostly steel and shock absorbing gel.

Speed: Max speed is around 20mph on road. Rarely on road since the weight can rip up weak roads and fall through bridges unless if in combat. The tank will also use nitro booster fuel to increase speed, at the cost of reduced operational speed.

Max operational distance: 120 miles.

These tanks will simply distract enemy forces and force them to redirect their firepower onto the super armored tanks. The main concern is direct hit from bunker buster missiles, which will instantly kill the Distractor tanks

We have ended the joint development of our new AA missiles with New England. We will be working on this by ourselves. Nothing worse than headdesking in the future from our enemies using the same technology against us.

1. Flash bang: Instant powerful light generation means instant stuns if the enemy pilots are close enough.

2. Slow flash bang: The chemicals linger in the air, rapidly reacting. It will last between 3-4 seconds to extend the time the pilots will be blinded, but the light generation isn't as strong.

3. Sticky flash bang: The slow flash bang's chemicals are combined with another type that is extremely sticky, distort light waves, and will ruin enemy aircraft's engines by clogging up the intake fans. The end result is extremely bright globs that will last between 4-5 seconds. If they land on the windshields, it will extend the time the enemy pilots will be blinded and will give the enemy pilots a more difficult time seeing through the distorted windshield. If they are inhaled through the aircraft's engines (which will mostly will occur), then the end result will be clusters of falling aircraft with engine failures while being chased by AA missiles.

4. Revealer: Just like the sticky slow bang, except without the quick light generating chemicals in them. Instead, it has a much weaker light generating that last up to 24 hours in a total darken room before running out of reactants to generate light. It glows neon green during the dark, the darker the surrounding area is, the brighter the glow in the dark chemical glow. The brighter the surrounding area is, the darker the sticky goo gets, resulting in a pure black color in strong light. It also has the ability to reflect radio waves very efficiently and can even emit its own radio waves due to small radio wave emitter capsules in the goo, giving other AA missiles or allied aircraft a better chance of tracking and shooting down the marked enemy aircraft.

We forgot to mention that we are also planning on testing an AA missile, called "Smart" missile with a much different computer in it compared to all others "fire-and-forget" missiles. These experimental ones don't chase their targets in a fairly straight line and stalk them from the rear. Instead, the experimental missiles are programmed to fly erratically such as making useless turns, flying in a circle around the target, fly away right before slamming into the target, faking engine failures, randomly fly over, around, or under the targets, and etc. They are designed to scare the crap out of enemy pilots and distract them from other AA missiles or enemy aircraft. After a few minutes of screwing around, then the experimental missiles would finally decide to finish their targets off for good.

They are extremely useful in aircraft dog-fights, clumped groups of enemy aircraft (spreads panic since none of the pilots know who the missile is going to target until it is too late), and enemy pilots that are too good at dodging AA missiles. Of course, the experimental missiles fly faster than our standard "fire and forget" missiles in order to fly around enemy aircraft.

They are already halfway competed. The only issue is preventing the "Smart" AA missiles from locking onto friendly aircraft, anything that emits radio waves, and large heat sources, such as clusters of people and missiles. Another issue was computer overload. We need to find a way to increase the missiles' processing power and RAM without extra weight and bulk.

Anti-stealth aircraft system:

Since radio waves from stars are uninterrupted, even in the worst kind of weathers, and the abundance of stars, they can be used to detect even the most powerful stealth aircraft. The radio telescopes will track most or all of the stars' radio waves based on the already massive map of all of the known stars. Since stealth aircraft absorbs or deflect radio waves, they will show up as a blank or black spot in the system's computers' map of the stars' radio waves.

It's kind the moon being covered entirely with radar absorbing material during a solar eclipse. You won't able to detect the moon using radar, but you can certainly see it as a black spot in the sunlight. Same thing with stealth aircraft and the radio waves from stars.

The radio telescopes will be placed underneath in open farm area with camouflage and inside large civilian buildings (hospitals, schools, etc). They would then be connected to rail guns that would fire flechettes at the area where the enemy stealth aircraft will fly through. The amount of power used in each shot depends on how fast the enemy aircraft is flying (the faster it is, the more power needs to be used to keep a high accuracy), how high, which direction, weather condition, and etc.

Rail gun: 10%

Notes- We have noticed that the rail guns emit large amount of heat. We thought it would be enough to use a water cooling system. Turns out that was a fatal mistake when the pipes literately exploded from the steam inside the pipes, and the rail gun suffered from heat damage. We repaired the rail gun and replaced the wreaked water cooling system to liquid nitrogen water cooling system.

The second test run? The heated nitrogen collection pipe exploded. We redesigned the cooling system, replacing it with a liquid helium/nitrogen cooling system. Large amount of thin, metal rods connect the inner covering part of the rail gun to the outer covering to serve as passive heat sink. Liquid nitrogen fills the heat sink, and numerous liquid helium cooling pipes are threaded through the passive heat sink to absorb heat and transfer it away from the heat sink and liquid nitrogen.

The third test run finally worked. We fired again, and this time, the rail gun imploded. Additional armoring will be needed to prevent gas explosions.

Notes- It is stalled. We need a material that can remain super-conductive at room temperature to cut down energy use.

Smart armor development (OOC: Link to source to backup my RP: http://news.discovery.com/tech/smart-armor...lectricity.html :OOC):

You know how many video games display the tanks' health during the game play? This time, tank operators get to see what condition is their tank is in.

Each plate of armor, whether its wrapped around a soldier's body or a vehicle's chassis, has two piezeoelectric sensors attached to it.

An electric current flows into one sensor and turns it into mechanical energy in the form of a tiny vibration that ripples through the armor plate. The other piezoelectric device takes that mechanical vibration and turns it back into electrical energy.

Anywhere from five to 15 volts of electricity is pumped into, and out of, an intact plate of armor. If the armor has been damaged by bullets, shrapnel or anything else, some of the current released into the armor won't be picked up on the other end.

The more damage the armor took, the less electricity the sensor will pick up. It should be useful for military combat, and allows repairers to prioritize which tanks to repair first based on how much damage they took.

World's fastest helicopter: (OOC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_X2 :OOC)

Code name: Triple rotors

Notes- Most helicopters have single rotors with a much smaller one on the tail to prevent the helicopter from spinning in the air rapidly. They accelerate by tilting forward. However, that results in slow aircraft. To improve speed greatly, we have added another main rotor that spins in another direction from the lower one, rendering the tail rotor useless. The tail rotor is turned 90 degrees from the side to the end of the tail to provide the thrust.

If we can get this experimental helicopter to be ready for mass production, then we can further modify it to allow it to serve military roles and replace our single stacked rotors helicopters to double stacked rotors helicopters. There will be many advantages we will soon gain, such as having a faster and harder to hit combat helicopters, faster airlifting, and much more.

OOC: Time for something new...

(I bought the Interstate Wonder a few days ago)

IC:

GLS National News:

President Frank Swater have announced plans on upgrading all transportation systems in this nation, from local subway tunnels to national highways. Currently, many parts of the transportation systems such as high speed rail and highways are in danger of being congested within a few years (predicted by civil engineers and city planners), especially various major cities' new local elevated high speed rail for commuting such as Detriot and New City. Plus, the canal locks connecting the lakes and canals are starting to suffer from congestion at peak traffic time.

It would be costly and the Legislative will have another lengthy debate on it. Hopefully it will not a flame/flame baiting war like last debate over military funding even though some new agencies are hoping for it so they can get extra viewers.

And in other news, residents close to the Great Lakes States land borders are noticing large projects close to the borders, possibly border defenses. The government have not commented on this yet.

Royal News Agency (OOC: They are extremely biased, much more than the GLS National News. :OOC):

A war is looming?

It has been nearly 4 months now since the first reports of building of what seemed like defenses on the border, unusually bright missiles and explosions in the air, and building of massive missile launchers of some kind in buildings throughout the various cities. The government had still not commented on the unusual reports and civilians who were curious attempted to ask the workers who were building the missile launchers and border defenses what were they doing, only to be forced to turn around by armed soldiers.

Many people had reported hearing loud lawnmower buzzes from the sky without seeing anything, especially residents close to military testing sites. Again, the government refused to comment on it. In fact, all of the videos and pictures of the strange flashes in the sky around the military testing sites in many website hosts, such as Youtube and Photobucket, were suddenly removed without any warning.

Recently, President Frank Swater had signed his signature into the anti-American colonization treaty or something, sparking a fierce debate with Rebel Army and their allies. Already it is in danger of tipping into a war if the debate continued to heat up. We had attempted to send an observer to the Redemptio Summit, only to be rejected by the Federation of Pravus Ingruo without a reason while admitting other observers, such as one from New England (which only future proves that Federation of Pravus Ingruo hates Great Lakes States).

Is Great Lakes States' government planning on getting involved in a war that will soon occur? Most likely yes, yet another reason why the so-called democratic government is incompetent, is undemocratic, and simply wants to seek Great Lakes States being turned into a parking lot.

We have managed to get hold of data on how to manufacture carbon nanotubes a while ago. Seeing that it has an extremely high strength to weight ratio, we decided to throw a twist in our development. Body armor and upgraded tanks. Rapid Demolisher tank and Advanced Reactive Body Armor development have started.

However, carbon nanotubes are excellent at transferring heat (nearly 10x better than copper), which can potentially turn carbon nanotube based body armors and vehicles armored with those into roasting ovens and instant egg cookers if it comes in contact with high temperatures, such as incendiary rounds, fire, flamethrowers, and etc.

Development of tanks, weaponry, and body armor:

Advanced Reactive Body Armor: 1%

Notes- The ARBA has advanced micro sensors inside carbon nanotubes that can detect approaching bullets and fragments. It will temporarily increase it's strength at that location by stiffing through electrical impulses. To prevent the body armor from roasting the wearer when in contact with high temperature, there will be flame resistant plastic bubbles foam filled with argon gas installed in the inner part of the armor. We are not sure how many bullets can it stop at once, but there will be limitations, such as requiring a steady power supply. Nevertheless, it will increase soldiers' survival rate and cut down deaths and injuries. Even if the shrapnel/bullet repelling system failed, the carbon nanotubes themselves can shrug off some impacts before weak spots start showing up in the armoring. It might be able to be used in even vehicles if the ARBA is fully developed and brought into combat.

Rail gun: 18%

Coil Gun: 8% (Stalled)

Demolisher tank class: 31%

Rapid Demolisher tank class: 1% (will be stalled until the Demolisher tank class can show it can be used in combat)

Its armoring will be mostly carbon nanotube and a thin layer of Kevlar between the armoring and the crew compartment to stop spalling from injuring the crew. The max speed will be much higher thanks to the carbon nanotubes' high strength to weight ratio, meaning less weight, allowing it to give enemy tanks a chase and blow them to pieces while being able to take serious punishments. The cannon will also be a 250mm cannon instead of 200mm. It might also incorporate some of Advanced Reactive Body Armor's components in it, including the insulators since roasted dead tank operators equals a dead tank.

We have successfully developed a bullet resistant shock absorbing gel that absorbs about half of bullets' or shrapels' kinetic energy by half. It hardens on high energy impacts since the molecules lock up instead of sliding past each other. These gel addition along with the upcoming ARBA to infantry body armors and vehicles' armoring will make them almost completely resistant to weak bullets and explosions.

(OOC: Link to that gel is here: http://heavyglobe.blogspot.com/2009/03/mil...that-stops.html )

The New Englander Department of Defense had announced that about 10,000 troops had been withdrawn from the Great Lakes States so far. Approximately 90,000 New Englander soldiers remain in GLS.

CLASSIFIED RESPONSE

We are progressing with the withdrawal of our troops from the GLS. Unfortunately, it seems that we are having some difficulty with logistics. But we are progressing on it, so do not worry.
