Voting has concluded on proposed alterations to the Freedom of Information clause within the Charter of the Multicolored Cross-X Alliance. The hotly-contested amendment proposal, which would have released records regarding how frequently each High Councillor voted, received 59.52% support - falling just short of the 60% supermajority required for approval.
The proposal had come under fire from some members of the alliance, who opposed the specifics of how the information would be released. According to criticisms, this amendment would not have given the General Assembly any details on the content of a vote, as only a voting record and a generic title would be released - restricting the usefulness of this information to potential voters. Those in support of the amendment often cited the utility of knowing how active members of the government were during their term of office, so that inactive officials could be pruned out during the ensuing election cycle.
The failure of this proposal means that the current wording of the Freedom of Information clause shall remain in effect. Under the current wording, any and all decisions released by the High Council to the General Assembly must contain a record of how each High Councillor voted on that matter. It also mandates that rationale for military action must be provided to the General Assembly when war is declared; an item likewise included in the proposed amendment. Neither the current amendment or its proposed successor would have prevented the High Council from releasing more information than required to by law. More information on the MCXA Charter can be found on their forums, or on the Cybernations Wiki.
Elections for the 19th High Council of the Multicolored Cross-X Alliance begin on the 9th of April, and shall conclude on or before the 13th.
