Markus Wilding
The following message would be sent to the Yugoslavian foreign ministry: To whom it may concern, As you know, our nations have been neighbors for nearly two and a half years, in which time there has been limited, if any, diplomatic contact. It is the purpose of my office and my writing to you today to resolve this. Therefore, I formally request an audience with Yugoslavian representatives to discuss topics of mutual gain. Respectively, Finn Powers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edited December 15, 2014 by Markus Wilding
Rudolph
Private "The Kingdom would be more than happy to receive representatives from our north-western neighbor that is Alvonia, and must ask if the representatives can be scheduled to arrive within a week's time to properly furbish an embassy for the Alvonian government." Respectfully,HM Kralj Dragojev Belojevic
Markus Wilding
The Yugoslavian request would of course be accommodated, and within a week Finn Powers would arrive in Yugoslavia with a small entourage at his disposal...as well as his regular stock of whiskey and cigarettes. Rudolph
Private Upon the Alvonian representative's arrival, he and his entourage would be escorted all the way from the city limits of Beograd with diplomatic honors befitting a foreign dignitary within the Yugoslavian White City to the Alvonian Embassy. The Representative and his entourage would go through the standard procedures before being allowed entry to their embassy, the refurbished building clearly being of Alvonian decor with the rooms and halls decorated with inspiring and classical paintings. If the any of the Alvonian group would ask on the paintings, they would simply be told that they showcased the greatness of Alvonia's natural landscapes before being led to one of the building's conference rooms. Standing besides the conference room's plain looking but tasteful table, the Kralj of the Kingdom turned and smiled at the entourage, "It's a pleasure to finally meet for the first time," he greeted as he gestured to the table, hoping his guests would sit in order to get the meeting on track, "I hope you'll enjoy your stay within the famed White City of our kingdom." Markus Wilding
"Likewise," Finn Powers said. The diplomatic honors, and the beauty of the Alvonian embassy, more than impressed Finn even though he wasn't a native Alvonian - no doubt the ambassador would be more that pleased to use the building as the headquarters of Yugoslavian diplomatic contact. "Regardless, I like to keep things short and simple - firstly, we in Alvonia would like to secure an economic treaty. Secondly, we'd like to secure at least some form of cooperation militarily, even if its as simple as a non-aggression pact. I realize Alvonia hasn't exactly put the best foot forward in Europe lately, but we hope to mend that with other states in the future." Rudolph
Private The Kralj would adopt a pensive face, drumming his fingers rhythmically on the table as he gave thought into the request, the Sovereign stopping his digits as he gazed at the Alvonian Foreign Minister. "You can consider the economic treaty to be done as I have a feeling we'll be needing the open trade routes soon enough," he answered cryptically, "With regards to the military cooperation, that can be a possibility but for now it'll have to be something simple as a Non-Aggression Pact between our two countries. As it stands, the Kingdom is surrounded by undeclared enemies and simply signing something as quick as a Mutual Defense Pact between our countries will only paint a bigger target to be used by our neighbor to the south," the Kingdom's Sovereign explained to the Alvonian Minister. "It is not my intent to be vague or cryptic, mind you, Minister. I am simply doing what needs to be done to take down Europe's greatest threats," he added before smiling, "Tea?" Markus Wilding
"Right, we're not asking for a mutual defense pact, nor would we given how Europe looks right now. We were hoping for maybe basing rights in the Med, maybe an officer exchange program, but that depends on what you feel your country needs first and foremost." "As far as economics go, is there anything specific that you want outlined before we put down any ink?"
Rudolph
Private Dragojev would simply nod at the Minister's words before gesturing to his staff, refreshments being brought in and politely handed to the Alvonian entourage, the Kralj having taken the silence as a yes in the face of more pressing issues. "With regards to the economics treaty between our countries, I believe making it easier for enterprising businessmen to understand the law, ensure that there are no loopholes of any kind with regards to trade and transportation between Alvonia and the Kingdom. Uniformed procedures and the like," the Kralj explained, "As for basing rights within the Mediterranean, I imagine we can come to some agreement since the Kingdom has no issue with Alvonia." Markus Wilding
"Alright, we can definitely get some good framework off of that. I'll make sure the laws in Yugoslavia are made clear should anyone want to hop on the economic train to Belgrade," Finn said as he took a sip of whiskey. "I love hearing that. Seems like everyone and his brother has a problem with Alvonia these days...regardless, the most important thing the Wehrmacht is looking for is a port that we can easily base the Kriegsmarine, and by extension, the Marinestoßtruppregiment out of." Rudolph
Private "Considering the proximity to the Alvonian border, I imagine the port of Koper in the region of Primorska would suit your needs extremely," the Kralj said as he snapped his fingers, an aide laying down a map of the Kingdom with the borders between they and Alvonia highlighted before the Sovereign used a push pin to mark where the port of Koper was located for the Alvonian Representative. "As you can see, it's a very excellent port to be leased to Alvonia."
Markus Wilding
"Aye, that looks good indeed. I'm sure the Kriegsmarine will have no problem with this, as well as the crews finally being able to rest and visit their families. Now, back to economics - I'm thinking free trade to start, with specific outlines dictating behavior of merchants in our respective countries, nothing illegal, no smuggling, that sort of code. Does that sound agreeable to the Yugoslavian state?"
Rudolph
Private The Kralj would nod once at the Minister's words, "It seems more than agreeable to the Kingdom, Esteemed Minister," he replied with as he motioned for the map to be taken away, promptly being folded and removed from the table by one of his aides. "Is there anything else in particular that Alvonia wishes to discuss with the Kingdom?"
Markus Wilding
"Yeah," Finn said as he started lighting a cigarette, "mind if I smoke?" Regardless of the king's answer, Finn would take a long drag of the cigarette anyway and exhale away from the king's direction. "Look, the elephant in the room is Carthage. It is the opinion of Director Wilding, and more or less Alvonia itself, that Carthage should stick to Africa. Their annexations in Iberia are totally unacceptable - this ridiculousness in Italy is far too much. I like to think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm curious - what does Yugoslavia think of this whole debacle?"
Rudolph
Private Dragojev would simply wave a hand dismissively, "Don't mind it myself, Minister, but feel free to smoke," the Kralj would answer as he thought on how best to reply to the Minister's words. "At best, we can agree that Carthage should remain in Africa but the reality of things as they stand, Minister, is that we are alone and Europe is divided. Africa is united as a single cohesive unit working in tandem, for anyone to have any chance of removing the African influence they would first have to unite Europe and then proceed to systematically remove African influence from the entirety of Europe, be it diplomatically, politically or through military force." "I do believe that Alvonia will have to be content with its current holdings if they wish to partake in the unity of Europe and removal of African holdings in Europe," the Kralj added as he smiled sadly at the Minister, knowing that would be one of the realities of their northern neighbor. Markus Wilding
"Aye," Finn said as he took a long drag of the cigarette. "The losses are disheartening, but we'll have to grin and bear them for a while. From what I've seen from the Alvonians, they do a good job of that. Went to a funeral of one of the airmen that died in Operation Honey Sun - his wife didn't shed a single tear during the whole ordeal. Anyway, you're right about Africa. The only thing that can beat them now is either a lot of nukes tossed at some capitals, or a united Europe. Although, given the problems we've been having lately, that sounds a lot like a pipe dream." Another long drag. "For what it's worth, Kralj Dragojev, Alvonia will stand with Yugoslavia should the African League come running."
Rudolph
Private "The Kingdom urgently requests for a diplomatic meeting as soon as possible. Urgent matters and key issues have to be discussed behind private walls, the Kingdom is more than available to coordinate the meeting at a time of Alvonia's choosing but please do not post-pone needlessly." Respectfully,HM Kralj Dragojev Belojevic [hr] His response sent, the Kralj would pounce on the available time to ensure that the Palace would be in tip top shape for the return of the Alvonian minister. Things would be ready for the arrival of the Foreign Minister and hopefully things could be discussed behind proper closed doors. Markus Wilding
Within a few hours, a plane touched down in Beograd, carrying not only Director Wilding, but a handpicked selection of four Schwarze Korps officers and a few minor assistants. Wilding stepped out of the plane, putting on a pair of sunglasses and heading to the convoy that was to take him to the Palace, where Kralj Dragojev was. "Tell me how the last meeting went," Wilding asked, looking at one of the guards. "Very well, we were granted the use of the port at Koper and a trade agreement." "Did the Kralj have any difficulty with Finn?" "No, they seemed to get along quite well, sir." "Goddammit," Markus said to nobody in particular, "Anytime Finn gets along with someone it's a bad sign." He turned to the lead of the security team, "Be ready to pull out fast if we have to." The head chuckled as they pulled onto the Palace grounds.
Rudolph
Private Upon the Alvonian Director's arrival, he and his entourage would be escorted all the way from the city limits of Beograd with diplomatic honors befitting a foreign dignitary within the Yugoslavian White City to the White Palace. Markus Wilding
"Likewise, Karjl Dragojev," Wilding said taking a seat. "It's good to finally get out of Vienna for a while. I love the city, don't get me wrong, but some days I need to be away. If I may ask, what exactly prompted this meeting?"
Rudolph
Private Dragojev chuckled before nodding at the Director, "To the point, just like Mr. Powers I see," he commented with good humour. "As I'm sure you know, the Balkans have a current regional power using primarily non-Balkan foreign ties to remain in that position. I imagine I do not have to mention who exactly I am referring to, Director," he started before taking a sip of his drink, "The matter at hand is that Yugoslavia seeks to unify Europe to force the African influence currently possessing holdings on the mainland of Europe out and back to their own continent." "I also do not have to mention by name just who exactly is the primary aggressor of African influence on Europe."
Markus Wilding
"I'd imagine myself a fool if I had to be told," Wilding said after taking in a bit of water. "I can't say I disagree with what you are doing - I remember heading to Iceland myself not too long ago trying to convince their king of the same idea. I have to ask though, what makes you believe it will work this time?" Wilding leaned forward, folding his hands together. "Europe, now more than ever, is a power keg waiting to blow up." Rudolph
Private Dragojev snorted, "That is because the Queen of Romania and I had a bit of a falling out, if you would. To make a long story short, we differ violently from each other on the key point of a united Europe. Romania seeks only what benefits Romania and to hell with the rest, while I believe in working towards a united Europe, capable of standing together against foreign powers but flexible enough to have internal clashes like the Americas have with their organization." The Kralj took a second to take a sip of his drink, letting it quench his thirst before he continued, "That being said, I do believe that it is in our best interests if we further the relationship between our two countries given that Romania has effectively written us off but before we do, we simply request that Alvonia's government extends an olive branch towards Hungary-Slovakia. It does no good to Yugoslavia having its two northern neighbors being at each others throats on a consistent basis, one who's blame falls on the shoulders of those involved, Director." Markus Wilding
Wilding sighed, and finished off his drink. "I'd be lying to you if I said we didn't try it [topic='123525']before[/topic] this meeting. I don't understand the Hungarian government, to be honest. One day, everything is fine. The next hour, the embassy gets closed and everyone goes home. A week later, the embassy opens again, and the staff go there before it closes again the next day. If they're not sending us notes of protest, they're closing the damn embassy over and over again." Wilding looked off in the distance and shook his head before returning his gaze to Dragojev. "Don't mistake my words as me saying it won't be done. I just don't have any delusions of good talks. I realize neither of us in this situation have clean hands, but the popular opinion of my cabinet is that the Hungarians don't want to negotiate. I suppose we will have to see."
