kitex
Gardenia Gazette Today elections took place and President Viola Hunnings of the Progressive Party was elected. She said that she was "happy to serve the state of Gardenia and would make sure that the nation would be prosperous and the people happy." When asked about how her cabinet was going to be arranged, Hunnings said "I will have my Cabinet made from all parties, Radical, Center, Green, Christian Democrat." In other news, the Gardenian Self Defense Force (GSDF) was fully organized today, to be made up of 7 divisions: 3 Infantry, 2 Airborne, 2 Light Infantry and some special forces as well. General Kazu Kunisaki, head of the GSDF, has said that at most, the GSDF might increase to 10 divisions, but that would be the maximum amount. Also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that they will begin formal diplomacy with countries such as Disparu, the EPI and the Hudson and Labrador. kitex
11/30/10 Today in Parliament there are several bills up to passage including the national budget, whether or not civilians should be allowed to carry weaponry, and public funding for radio stations. Just yesterday the tax code was changed as to shift the tax burden to the wealthy in the form of increasing the income tax to 45% for the top 10% of the nation, as well as imposing a capital gains tax and a corporate tax of 35%. President Hunnings announced that all of the money made from the rich would be reinvested in the nation's education, social services, infrastructure, and green energy. kitex
12/4/10 Today in Parliament several bills were passed, including those that established a national budget and allows the government to fund public radio stations. The question of whether civilians should be able to carry weaponry has been modified, saying that civilians would only have access to hand guns. Currently, there is a debate raging about whether healthcare should be in the hands of the private or public sector.
kitex
12/7/10 Finally the healthcare debate has been settled, with it belonging in government hands as well as a pension for all citizens. Currently, the military has announced that it will increase the GSDF to 8 divisions and also begin to acquire more advanced weaponry for the military as a whole. Minister of Defense Marah Verrington, defended the increase in troop strength as well as the acquiring of advanced technology, stating that "Gardenia needs to be able to better defend itself and through increasing troop strength and acquiring advanced technologies would help us in that endeavor." Parliament has yet to vote on increasing the defense budget to cover these costs.

JEDCJT
"The Kingdom of Ursalia offers to sell Gardenia oil, at any amount. We are the second largest oil-producer in the world, so we can supply all your needs."

12/16/10 Parliament is still debating on whether or not to increase the defense budget. The Socialist Workers Party as well as its allies in the Christian Democrats and the Green Party are arguing that since Disparu has agreed to guarantee Gardenia's defense, then there should be no reason why the GSDF should be increased to 100k soldiers. However, the Conservative and Progressive Parties argue that if the country was attacked, it would be beneficial for both Gardenia and Disparu to have the same level of military technology, as to allow better synchronization in battle. In other news, the Ministry of Finance predicts that the nation will have a surplus at the end of the year of about $20 billion.
