Subtleknifewielder
TO: HH Kerala Varma, King of Cochin Your Excellency, I would be delighted to entertain an emmisary from your honorable nation. I will not, unfortunately, be able to converse personally with your representative, but my Grand Duke is fully authorized to speak on my behalf. king of cochin
KP Varma, the Minister of External Affairs of the Kingdom of Cochin arrived in Australia. OOC: Assuming he is now meeting the Grand Duke. IC: "Hello Sir, Greetings. I am KP Varma."
Subtleknifewielder
OOC: NP. I have trouble keeping your characters apart though. How old is this one? IC: KP Varma would be escorted into a limo, which would in turn have an honorary security escort to the Palace. the Grand duke, not being much for fanfare and pomp, would waste little time in ceramony, simply offering to shake hands with his guest before offering the man a seat. Only after Varma had seated himself would Anthony Harlem sit in his own chair.
king of cochin
OOC: This is KP Varma, 61 years old, career diplomat, confirmed bachelor and prolific philanderer in his youth long past gone. IC: Having enjoyed the Australian hospitality KP Varma said, "Thank you for accepting our request and granting us this meeting."
Subtleknifewielder
OOC: I thought that's who it was, but wasn't sure. Thanks. IC: "We would be poor friends if we refused to even meet with you.," Anthony stated as he took his seat. "The Queendom is never too busy to set aside someone to meet with a representative of a friend.>" "Now, what matters did His Majesty wish to have discussed with us?" king of cochin
"The Kingdom believes in reviewing its treaties and diplomatic relations periodically and to attempt to strengthen them where needed. Our nations currently hold a NAP/FTA Pact signed several years ago. With the changing global political dimensions, our relationship has survived the various challenges thrown, and in our perception has only been strengthened. With the establishment of Oceanic Union, Australia has once again proved its capabilities as a force which promotes stability and prosperity." "It is with these views that we seek to propose that our diplomatic relationship be upgraded to Mutual Defense status. As Indian Ocean bordering nations, a reaffirmed relationship between two stable and peaceful nations like us would only contribute to greater regional stability," KP Varma said. Subtleknifewielder
"Although you have to admit that at certain points the relations were strained, particularly dutring the establishment of the Oceanic Union, yes, on the whole they have improved. Particularly when we are on the same side in an ongoing conflict, yes?" At this point, Anthony grinned apologetically. "Now, I'm afraid I didn't really read the treaty other than to find where to put my signature last time, and while I have a copy somewhere in here, it's buried under several stacks of other files. You didn't happen to bring a copy of the original agrement with you, did you?"
king of cochin
"Ah yes, I do have a copy, but I am afraid only an electronic one. I hope that would suffice?" KP Varma said before retrieving his laptop from his Secretary and opening the treaty's scanned copy." Subtleknifewielder
OOC: Oh wow, it's been that long since we signed it? Wow...and that character of mine is dead, too, now. IC: "That's perfectly fine..." Anthony agreed, then leaned forward to read the words on the screen. "Uh, I'm afraid we'll have to modify the economic clause. We won't have to throw it out altogether, but the Queendom is understandably a different entity than Promised Land was. It no longer believes in eliminated tariffs. So would reduced tariffs be fine?" "I would recommend adding a clause about each sharing intelligence that pertains to adirect threat to the other." "Other than that, it's a good template to work from, and needs little work to be upgraded."
king of cochin
"We have no issues at all with the clause editing you recommend. Also we would like to propose that we upgrade this treaty to a Mutual Defense Pact," KP Varma said.
Subtleknifewielder
"Mmm," he murmured, noncommital for a moment. "I'd have to run this by Queen Hannah, first, of course," Anthony finally stated. "But considering the mending relations she helped foster, I don't see why she would object. You get your King to sign a draft of your proposing, and I'll present the finished document to Her Majesty for approval. Is this acceptable?" king of cochin
"Yes, the improved draft is acceptable to us. As and when Australia is ready, I am authorized to sign the treaty on behalf of the King. Or if a more grandiose ceremony is in the wings, The King of Cochin extends invitation to Queen Hannah Asggeisson and Queendom of Australia to the Kingdom. The King of Cochin has also expressed his willingness to come to Australia if such an invitation is extended," KP Varma said.

He smiled apologetically, walking to the door and tapping one of the guards on the shoulder. "Please deliver this to Her Majesty, and tell her it's the proposed treaty with Cochin." The guard nodded and left, leaving Anthony to return to his seat. "No grand ceremony is required. We are friends, we know it, and the world will know it soon enough.Though I will also pass that on to Her Majesty.
