Reaching out to a Friend

Ever since the return of Sparta Carthage had decided to keep a distance, while it very much wanted to see restoration of the previous relationship it was better for the Sparta to decide upon such a course on their own initiative. In the eyes of Carthage the arrest of the Yugoslav king was sufficient evidence that Sparta was very much still committed to past alliances. As such a message would arrive at the Spartan government.

To whomever it may concern,

In light of our shared history and recent events I would like to take this opportunity to invite a representative of Sparta to the Empire of Carthage to discuss the future of both our states and possible restoration of past ties.

Sincerely,

Anysus I of Carthage

Alexander had just finished confirming the deployment of several divisions to the Yugoslav border and the deployment of a few warships to moniter the situation in the Adriatic Sea when the message flashed up on his screen, forwarded directly from the foreign office who normally deal with such requests. He would himself confirm the meeting and he sent Adonia Berenike, a rising start in the Royal Government.

Once she got her orders she boarded the government jet and flew to Carthage on her first diplomatic mission.

OOC

Upon Adonia's arrival she would be given the by now traditional reception before being given a tour through the city and eventually ending up at the Palace of Kings where she was further escorted to the throne room where the Emperor and his court were awaiting.

"Miss Adonia Berenike of Sparta, Your Imperial Highness" The lead guard who had been appointed to keep Adonia safe said.

"Ah miss Berenike. Welcome to Carthage, I trust you have enjoyed the city so far?"

'Carthage is indeed one of the grandest cities i have ever set foot in Sire' she said, bowing her head slightly.

'I will be blunt, Sparta has a King in its cells and our armies stand on the brink of war with Yugoslavia in the mountiains bordering Albania and Macedon. When Sparta goes to war, everyone will carry a shield, please speak clearly and truthfully. How can Sparta be of assistance to Carthage.'

"Ah brutal honesty, it's something I have always appreciated of your people. Sparta and Carthage share a mutual enemy, meanwhile Sparta has more than clearly proved its commitment to our concerns and it seems only fair to repay the favour. Europe stands at the brink of war as you undoubtedly know and Romania has already engaged. What I propose is a lasting military alliance to engage those threats to European peace and establish a new order in the Balkan where Sparta and Romania both have a say in its affairs. What do you say to this?"

'Sparta would be applicable to having a louder voice in its regional affairs. However that said, Romania is an aggressive state Sire, like a dog on a tight leash. The Eastern Bloc before it fell to pieces was the posterchild of conflict, on the brink of war from one week to the next, lead by Romania and If I may be so bold, the state of Hungary, a country which tries and fails to punch above its weight. If it was not backed by Romania and Belarus, it would not be so aggressive towards other states'

'I fear that any attempt to allowe Sparta a louder voice in Balkan affairs would at some point run foul of Romania and it could start another war. Alternativly, they run foul of our own foriegn affairs. Two large and powerful states in the same, small space is a recipe for disaster later down the line. Now I am hoping that the meeting currently taking place in Sparta itself between my King and a Romanian delegate can ease out some of our concerns and come to an understanding and return to the former set of relations, but as it stands, Sparta feels alientated in its own region by Romania. Carthage is the only constant friend we have had since returning from 'the white space' so to speak.' she continued.

'A return to a long standing and strong military alliance with Carthage would be an excellent move forward for our states, and once the meeting is finished with Romania, I believe it to be prudent for the three of us to sit down and hammer out precise spheres of influence and political stages so we know where we all stand. Politically, Carthage and Romania carry influence and weight behind its words and are respected both states world wide. Sparta has yet to earn that respect, so we feel it would be... unwise for Sparta to begin exerting its 'influence' over states which do not respect us.'
