Pope Anthony Affirms Sovereignty

Vatican City is independent with additional holdings.

Vatican-swiss-guards.jpg

Pope Anthony has declared May 18 to be "Sovereignty Day" for Vatican City and promptly named the new state simply the "Vatican" because of its other holdings including Monaco and Gibraltar

Thousands gathered in St. Peter's Square as the Pope spoke to the masses and addressed the plans for the future of Vatican City and its holdings. Specifically, the Holy See's mission remains to preach the Word of God to the world, help the poor and needy and expand Christ's Church to even the most remote of places. The Vatican itself, as a sovereign nation, has the mission of protecting the faith and the Holy Father from all threats foreign and domestic.

The Corps of Gendarmerie (known as the Vatican Police/La Polizia del Vaticano in Vatican City) is the the official Armed Forces of the small papal state while the Swiss Guard serves to protect the Pope and the clergy before all else. The Swiss Guard is confirmed to have 300 active-duty members while the Gendarmerie has 500 - many of which are located in Monaco and Gibraltar. The Swiss Guard has already invested in two helicopters for Vatican City while the Inspect General of the Gendarmerie is looking into investing in patrol ships. The Gendarmerie and Swiss Guard are confident that while the population of the entire Vatican state is over 60,000 people it will be able to handle to religious and peaceful population. For the first time in modern history, active recruiting has begun for both military forces.

While the Polizia del Vaticano and the Swiss Guard plan expansion within their ranks, Pope Anthony makes plans to visit other places of the world and greet foreign heads of state.

"The Kingdom of Axum does not recognize the morally bankrupt and degenerate Catholic pope's right to lay claim to anything other than a bullet to the temple. That being said, we've helicopters a plenty for sale, good prices, best friend discounts available."

Using the Swiss Guard's two new Blackhawk helicopters, two companies of Gendarmerie would land in Valletta, Malta and secure the capitol building. With little desire for independence, the Vatican received word from the historically Catholic island that it would like integration into the small state. An additional thirty members of the Swiss Guard would arrive to set up security in the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady (Rotunda of Mosta) and protect the clergy. The flag of the Vatican would be raised above government buildings while the military continued to arrive to fulfill Malta's wishes.

Private

Thirty-thousand volunteers would enter the Gendarmerie Corps, having been trained with modern weaponry and battle tactics. A majority of these troops would be stationed in Malta for the time being. Meanwhile, volunteers would continue to be accepted and the Swiss Guard too would begin recruiting.

Vatican Scientists Work to Find Cures

Cures for disease being explored in Vatican Antarctic colonies.

President of The Vatican, Cardinal Gabriel Amerigo, announced that so far 4,000,000 lira have been designated for the creation of colonies in Antarctica that "will specialize in the sciences of biology, chemistry, and astronomy." The Cardinal said that the project is the design of Pope Anthony who "wants to see money spent to find cures for diseases" that effect the peoples of the world.

The Antarctic Peninsula was found to be a suitable place for the Vatican to found two colonies - with more planned - that have already begun research into finding cures for many of the world's uncured diseases. Both colonies, whose numbers have already swelled to 400 each, plan to stay active through the winter. A majority of those in the colonies consist of Vatican scientists, civilian scientists, and clergy who sought solitude to pray. However a small yet noticeable influx of citizens came as construction workers and plan to stay the winter in order to keep the colonies active and working. Supplies, including fuel and food, have been brought to the colonies to ensure that the scientists and people living there will be able to keep working for the benefit of the world.

The first colony, Notre Dame (French for "Our Lady"), is looking into treatment for a variety of cancers and how to prevent it in young people. The second colony, Sanctus (Latin for "Holy"), has a wider focus on both rare and well-known diseases. If the first two show signs of success, Pope Anthony stated he plans to have the Vatican continue to expand its medical research wing in order to provide the world with better healthcare and longer lives to "love each other and praise the Lord."

Monks Find Solitude on South Georgia Island

Just over 75 monks move to South Georgia island for peace and prayer.

A group of Catholic monks who had been practicing in Monaco for the best three years have decided to leave the busy enclave and head for a much more remote and peaceful land - perhaps "island" would be the more appropriate word.

Many of the monks have already made it to South Georgia where a small abandoned Church is being used for shelter while they construct their own settlement at Grytviken . The island is riddled with the ruins of former whaling stations which have stood the test of time but their patrons did not. The island is expected to be unpopulated, however; this has not stopped the monks from traveling thousands of miles to find a new home, become one with God, and get a better understanding of nature. The monks will stay on the island for two years until their mission is complete. Until then, they are expected to stay in solitude together, gather food, and sustain their own existence. More monks from the Vatican are expected to follow to the large island.

Members of the clergy have been known to seek solitude in order to get closer to God and obtain greater spiritual peace. But while the monks travel there for only spiritual reasons, several Vatican Scientists - specifically geologists, volcanologists, and astronomers - believe the island could further scientific study. The Pontifical Academy of Sciences has already come into agreement with the rest of the Holy See that any scientific missions to the island of South Georgia or others "would not interfere or inhibit the monks and clergymen who travel there to be with God" as the agreement said.

Andorra is Annexed into The Vatican

Andorrans vote to remain neutral between France/Spain.

The small, religious state known as Andorra held a democratic referendum where citizens voted 3:1 to remain independent from both France and Freidonia. A second referendum was held and the citizenry voted overwhelmingly to join the Vatican instead of remaining independent.

The Bishop of Urgell stated that he was "thankful to have the Vatican become our protector. We truly are a nation of God now here in Andorra." The almost entirely Roman Catholic population celebrated yesterday night as members of the Swiss Guard arrived to greet the Bishop of Urgell and sign a treaty that made the annexation official. The flag of the Vatican was raised above the parliament building at midnight. Pope Anthony marked the occasion by giving a short speech to onlookers in St. Peter's Square and praying for the health and stability of the people of Andorra.
