Evangeline Anovilis
Without great fanfare, in the morning of the 25th of March, the Lake St. Clair Army of Faraway crossed the bridge into Michigan. As it had become clear that the protection which for a long time had been upheld by Mexico was no longer existent, the Lord Protector had ordered the Royal Faraway Army to secure the lands of importance to the security of Faraway. Even before the Sleepy Hollowin Question had been solved, the constant marching of military boots could be heard now also in the South. Cheerful soldiers kept marching, and their commanders had little intention to stop the advance. In the Royal Chamber in Ottawa meanwhile, the situation was far less cheerful. Especially the Rose Faction gringed at the thought of the triumphant Hanobel, who, despite the constant actions of the Chamber to counter her moves, could no longer be restrained from advocating for the expansion of Faraway's influence. It was either secure the region now, or wait until others made their moves and that could lead to bad surprises. Still, the minds were brooding, the country could not overextent itself. But what to do with an army that marched South and west with little intention to stop? [hr] To: The Hudson Bay Federation, The American Commonwealth From: Ephraim Halliwell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Faraway To whomever it concerns, With the sudden downfall of Mexico, the Faraway Realm has taken upon itself, to secure lands of the former Mexican protectorate adjacent to our country. However, we do not expect to be able to guarantee the protection for all people of the Mexican protectorate, not to even start with Mexico itself. Thus, we would like to ask you, as we assume you having similar interest in continued stability on our continent, to cooperate in securing these lands. MostGloriousLeader
Response Commonwealth Forces have moved to secure all of the former Mexican protectorate east of the Mississippi as well as southern east coast. Beyond this we don't have immediate interests in terms of security but we do recognize the importance of continental stability as well as the impact of the enormous vacuum now left by the collapse of Mexico. We are willing to work with our fellow American nations to undertake joint peacekeeping operations to minimize the impact of this unfortunate event. Evangeline Anovilis
To: Christopher McNutt, Secretary of State From: Ephraim Halliwell, Minister of Foreign Affairs The Faraway armed forces will be ordered to stop advances once encountering Commonwealth troops. We are currently still trying to assess the situation surrounding the downfall of the Mexican state and the situation in the region our forces already are holding. As the RFA has had some communication trouble, not all troops have yet reported their situation. In regards to the joint peacekeeping, most likely a meeting between North Americas nations bordering the protectorate would be best to determine a common plan of action. With regards, Ephraim Halliwell Classified While Halliwell named them communication trouble, it was far more than that. More than just troublesome, was that the ones tasked with the Operation, Lady Dorothy Alcott and Lady Hanobel, who headed the Northern Army and the Lake St. Clair Army respectively, had not only hardly any contact between themselves, but also between themselves.and Ottawa, or at least the latter had. And though some wondered whether it was poor technology, most were rather sure that someone had forsaken communication in favor of pushing further than they should. Hanobel herself, only reported back once in Chicago, and even then, the advance only stopped, when Lady Dorothy Alcott, conducting a belated push through reintegrated Sleepy Hollow into Minnesota encountered MUV units and motorised infantry in Wisconsin, ordering them to stop. Tanis777
To: Ephraim Halliwell, Minister of Foreign Affairs From: Gregory Rolan, Hudson Bay Minister of Foreign Affairs Cc: Christopher McNutt, Secretary of State Greetings! The situation in Mexico has not escaped our view and we would like to thank you Minister Halliwell and Secretary McNutt for keeping us in the loop in your actions in Mexico's downfall. We respect your proactive view and will match it as we mobilize our security forces to the former protectorate east of the Mississippi River to the Rio Grande and parts of the Rocky Mountains as the future of the region is decided. We take the time to inform our diplomats in Oregon Republic to relay the message for the security of the Pacific Coast to them. It is our best interest, at least from Chancellor Welks, to come together for a meeting to decide how best to deal with former Mexican territory. Sincerely, Gregory Rolan Hudson Bay Federation Minister of Foreign Affairs Classified Diplomatic Cable To: Franklin Townsend From: Gregory Rolan Subject: Mexico Mr. Townsend, you have another mission for you while you are in Portland with Oregon Republic officials. Mexico has fallen and with how our Eastern North American counterparts are taking proactive control of certain sectors of what was Mexico, we suggest that they do the same. Regards, Gregory Rolan Classified Bases in southern Manitoba were mobilized into action for arguably the largest security operation that the Federation undertook, dwarfing recent operations in BC and Alberta as several divisions were tasked to move through the Dakotas southward to the Gulf of Mexico. The Federation Air Force swung into high gear as it strained to utilize whatever cargo aircraft to move troops and supplies to places far to the southern reaches of the planned security sector covering the Rio Grande watershed, Texas, Denver, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, etc. It would take several weeks before a sizable Federation presence would be established to the southern extremes of the sector, but anything above St. Louis were given to a couple light infantry divisions gifted with speedy mobility across the Northern Midwest. A few flights were directed to Mexico City to assess the situation from the former capital Mexico and reestablish diplomatic contact with local government officials there. There would be no direct effort to send any sizable forces this far south as the concern was to gain more relevant information on the ground there via buzzing activity at the Hudson Bay Embassy in Mexico City. Evangeline Anovilis
To: Gregory Rolan, Hudson Bay Minister of Foreign Affairs From: Ephraim Halliwell, Faraway Minister of Foreign Affairs Cc: Christopher McNutt, American Commonwealth Secretary of State The Faraway Realm shares the opinion that it may be necessary to meet and to discuss the situation, in order to find a working system for the future. With the enormous amount of land and people that are now without Mexico's firm stability and order, it is not easy to determine such things just via communiques. Would the Hudson Bay know where to host such a meeting? With regards, Ephraim Halliwell
Evangeline Anovilis
Classified Report To: Ontario Military High Command From: Frontline Command, Alcott and Hanobel With reports of the formation of a republican state which lays claim to Great Lakes Territory, this issue is no longer one that can handled with the current measures that were taken up to now. While it is entirely unacceptable to have the region fall to a local actor of uncertain stability, but republican leaning, any crackdown is for now to be avoided, due to diplomatic repercussions. Requesting this issue to be handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while more troops should be mobilised in case this becomes an earnest threat to our security. Even naval assets may be useful for assistance. Hopefully this issue can be solved in cooperation also with the Hudson Bay Federation and the American Commonwealth, in extreme cases maybe even Quebec. Regardless, for now, no hasty actions should be executed. Signed, Dorothy Alcott Hanobel
MostGloriousLeader
The American Commonwealth, for the time being at least, will not recognize this newly created government that lays claim to a disproportionately large area of land despite being formed in what seems like no time at all. Commonwealth forces will continue operations to secure the areas east of the Mississippi as well as former FSAR territory. Recognition of this new government will depend on further examination of their claims and determining if they are reasonable and not a detriment to continental stability. We are willing to provide assistance to Far Away and the Hudson Federation regarding this matter if required. Secretary of State, Christopher McNutt Commonwealth forces continued their efforts to secure the protectorate, though now additional assets were being brought into the fray. Armored units had previously been held back in an effort to reduce the visibility of the peacekeeping forces but now they were being pushed forward as a precaution. In the meantime intelligence efforts would be refocused on this new movement, its members and its leaders in order to obtain as much information as possible about them. Evangeline Anovilis
Public Announcement by the Lord Protector The Faraway Realm echoes these concerns and likewise is not ready to recognise any potential security risk in North America. We believe it to be best, if all matters concerning the future of the former Mexican protectorate be discussed together with the other countries in the North American community, to ensure that the peace and stability that existed up to now continue also into the future. We thank the American Commonwealth for their offer of assistance and likewise extent such an offer to the Hudson Bay and the Commonwealth, as it seems to us that until the status of the protectorate has been cleared in a manner acceptable to all concerned parties, possible violence or instability may become detrimental to the whole pacification process of an extremely large area. Signed, While Faraway had no equivalent to a main battle tank, the MUV in both configuarations was used already since the start of Operation Maize Field and the High Command only raised the readyness of reserves at home, to be deployed, should the situation get out of hand. Tanis777
Official Hudson Bay Chancellor Press Conference "Ladies and gentlemen, Chancellor Welks," stated Press Secretary Henry Schall. "Greetings everyone. Citizens of the Federation and of North America, this press conference has been called due to the rapid developments on the ground regarding the former proper and protectorate territory of Mexico in the aftermath of the fall of the Mexican government. I am happy to announce that our security operation in cooperation with our mutual partners of the Oregon Republic, Faraway and the American Commonwealth has gone smoothly, apart from our own successful operation throughout the Great Plains and Rio Grande region to establish our security sector. Federation assets have been sent as far as Mexico City to assess various situations across Mexico that have been outside the normal grasp of other North American nations as we determine the future of the region for it's people and with local governments. Slowly, we have tasked to supply the continuation of basic supplies and goods to the region and have established sizable presence in Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Fargo, Pierre, Lincoln City, Kansas City, and El Paso as key distribution centers of Federation aid and operation centers. In Mexico City, we have increased our operations ten-fold at our embassy as well temporarily taken a portion of the cargo terminals at the Benito Juárez International Airport for our operations in Central America. At this time, we have heard several movements of independence have sprung in our sector as well as a revived Mexican government; however, at this moment, our government will withhold recognition of all these movements until an appointed period of review time and talks have developed between our officials and these movement's officials. I am announcing that our security partners and independence movement officials meet in Mexico City to discuss the future of North America in the wake of the collapse of Mexico. It is only justified that if we talk about the importance of Mexico in Western Hemisphere relations in Mexico City. I look forward to seeing everyone there. May the Federation prosper, good day." Evangeline Anovilis
Classified While the conference in Mexico City was ongoing, at home, the Faraway forces prepared for a partial mobilisation of the reserves. With mostly Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and the Southern coast of Lake Michigan under control, Faraway had much less land under its control than the American commonwealth or the Hudson Bay Federation, and also much less than some in Faraway wished for, but still, with independence movements springing up in the americas, one better had a few more boots on the ground, for Faraway had no interest to get violently ousted from the lands it held. The IInd, IIIrd, IVth, Xth, XIth and XIIth reserve divisions would be called to arms and readied for departure to the protectorate space, increasing the army strength to roughly 100,000 soldiers in the former US. The Greater Toronto Army would move into the Sleepy Hollow PIZ, to replace the Northern Army, which had advanced into Minnesota, in order to keep order in the PIZ and to back up the Northern army, should trouble arise. Mara Lithaen
In Wisconsin and Illinois, citizens began to politely ask for the troops sent by the foreigners to leave, as the ratification movements swept high and wide, commanding massive majorities in state parliaments. Though the documents were not yet signed, they were well on their way towards it.
Evangeline Anovilis
The Royal Faraway Army soldiers would politely reply that they would leave when Ontario High Command ordered them to. However, after message was sent to Mexico City, to Lady Hanobel, Commander of the Lake Saint Clair Army, the orders did indeed change. Classified Order To ensure the continued stability of the protectorate and to thwart any attempts of seperatism, until the matter of the Great Lakes is cleared at the Mexico City Conference, there will be no right of public assembly. All assemblies of more than 10 people are to be dissolved immediatly, especially any political movements. People resisting are to be arrested and sent to Lake elliot for work in the uranium mines. Mara Lithaen
With the oppressive nature of the occupiers now known, participants simply gathered by internet meeting and proceeded as normal, complying with the rules set forth by the invaders while also continuing their work towards self-determination. A number of requests were sent to the Republic's Kansan temporary capitol for arms and observers, however, in case the oppressors were to become brutal. Tanis777
Those requests for armaments would not be fulfilled or severely inhibited by the territory of Kansas due strict security checkpoints on large quantities of firearms in the Midwest security sector covered by the Hudson Bay Federation as part of the executive order underscoring the prevention of large scale formation of armed force. Mara Lithaen
Given the sheer number of back roads in Kansas and surrounding territories, it would be relatively easy to move truckloads of equipment northwards, if at a much reduced pace and greatly reduced volume. Given that no actual forces were gathering at the present time, the smugglers were well able to do their jobs, as long as they were careful to do so. Tanis777
Shipments intercepted would consequently lead to the seizure of all armament and defense factories in the security sector and placed in standby mode. All staff would be paid on furlough until further notice from the Federation budget, thus completely stopping the flow of any large scale quantities of small arms. OOC: Kansas is part of the larger Federation Midwest security sector with over 100k troops operating in it before the declaration, deal with it. Tanis777
Efforts to stop the flow of weapons eastward would focus on a severe enforcement checkpoint on the Mississippi River within the Federation security sector, with checkpoints on all bridges coupled with gunboat and light helicopter patols. All cars would be randomly searched while x-ray camera checkpoints would be established on the most busy routes. Gun licenses would be checked as well as IDs to stave off any flow of illegal weapons transfer out of the Federation security sector. Further efforts to transfer weapons illegally would be met with harsher nonrecognition of local governance if support continued. OOC: Deal with it being here first? Evangeline Anovilis
The Royal Faraway Army would start confiscating all armored vehicles and military aircraft it could find in the protectorate space. It seemed unlikely that any peace-loving upright law-abiding person would need these vehicles and without much argument against this move, these instruments of war would be secured and transported back to Faraway proper, in order to be taken apart and sold for or used for spare parts. Afterwards, airports would be closed and all traffic in and out of cities be regulated at checkpoints, to ensure that a watchful eye was kept on the movements of people and wares within the territory under Faraway control. People would be advised to stay at home, especially after the curfew, which would last from 6 pm to 6 am and in which everyone without a special license (issued to medical stuff and fire brigades, which would undergo rigorous checks) would be arrested and sent to the Elliot Lake uranium mines. OOC: Mara, it's all a matter of perspective.
Mara Lithaen
Given that no armored vehicles or military aircraft were currently present in the area, the Royal Bullies found nothing to confiscate, and the meetings continued electronically unabated. Evangeline Anovilis
While the conference was still ongoing, from her Highness, Dorothy Alcott, a classified order was issued. The remaining four reserve armies were to be called to arms and to be prepared for departure to the new protectorate space for a grand scale operation. While details were kept within the circle of the High Command, the soldiers were instructed that a police action was impending. The number of trucks delivering food and ammunition to the new protectorate space would almost double, as young Lady Alcott drew up plans.
