Last night I slept on the couch. It was one of those times when you don't notice you're falling asleep and the dream felt so realistic that I had one of those "oh right... it's not like that in reality. Damn." moments. It was a dream about me pretending to be a member of the NPO, except the NPO wasn't just pixels it was an actual organisation with an actual building and members conversing with each other.
I live next to a freeway and remember the days while it was in construction. It is a dual carriage freeway and for some reason, the NPO building was in the gap between lanes. It makes no sense now, but it had a fairly nice view anyway. It was a large building with a flat roof and had a vast interior space, with very little furniture and mostly white tile floors (or perhaps they were wooden, dreams tend to change things as they go along). Perhaps the best way to think of it would be like when you visit your rich friend's house and are that little bit surprised when it is significantly bigger than yours. It had high ceilings and seemingly a single room, with a bit of a receptionist's desk that was like one of those large bars you might find in a ritzy city tavern. The walls were white and some of the walls were painted red (fitting in with the red team theme). I do not recall many, if any Pacifica flags being flown, which was interesting. You just knew it was the NPO building.
I was greeted very politely on arrival. The whole time, the there was a feeling of fear that I may be discovered for not being a NPO member and having to face embarrassment, yet I played along and was treated very politely by the people there. The receptionist (a large male) was nice and handed me a red glassy badge in the shape of a shield. It was red and black and had in metal letters "peace, strength, prosperity" embossed on it. The immediate thought at the time was "wow, these are cool and these people are dedicated. We should do this at MCXA!" To the edge of this room was a plasma TV and about 20 adults, sitting cross-legged like children, with a good posture, in not-so-strict rows, being attentive to what appeared to be a teacher standing next to the television. Most of the people were also Jewish for some reason (keep in mind 3/4 NPO Emperors have been Jews). Like the receptionist, they were all very polite and kind. But I was running out of time and had to return to the MCXA, but was shown to some sort of subway before waking up.
I don't know what to think about this dream. Perhaps it gave me some nice interior decorating ideas for a rumpus room and perhaps an interesting personification of the pixels we cherish. But I do know that Cyber Nations, which has been a part of my life for a number of years has produced screen-burn within my brain. Ah, the price we pay for enjoyment.

Last month, Supercoolyellow asked me to help him out in the Ragnarok Embassy. We had been asked the question about what happened during the events of early 2009 when MCXA history took an enormous turn. There is always more than one side to any story and RoK were interested when they learnt the story from my side, that is somebody who respected the existing government, yet was kept in the dark about the events that were about to unfold. This wasn't the first time Supercoolyellow was asked however. Time and time again, people wanted to know what happened and how we were coping. So today, I write this blog about it. I do expect to be trolled by TSO and others wishing to correct me, but fudge it, this is my take on it.
This is what I wrote in the RoK embassy (there was a question about sam, which is why he is mentioned right from the start)
That basically outlines my thoughts and emotions, still to this day. However, the TSO seperatists would say I am missing something. That thing is a person named nc1701.
nc1701 was the High Councillor who exposed the planning for TSO. It didn't come in the form of logs posted all over the MCXA forums but rather through appealing to the new and active members. The keyword used in his speeches was 'transperancy'. It worked a charm. The General Assembly was fired up and the High Council freaked. There were the people who all of a sudden hated the HC, there was the HC who hated the plebians, there were the HC who wanted to stay, there were the GA (like me) who trusted the HC. On top of that were the people who were just jumping ship anyway. And there were a LOT of those.
So the TSO ship sailed and we weren't left with much. There was somebody who tried deleting all the TSO evidence by hacking our forums. There was sup4, there was Francesca (ironically, both dating at the time in real life). Those three worked together to make the MCXA be the way they wanted it, making their own IRC channel to establish plans to create discontent with Gopherbashi, Dr. Fresh and KingEd as part of a campaign to gain governmental control of the alliance; although were unsuccessful on two attempts on polling day. These plans may have been all and well if it wasn't for a radical by the name of Maxfiles, who pulled out the Francesca/nc1701 conspiracy and released the logs to those who could do something about it. Although, to his credit, sup4 was never really wanted to take over with nc and fran. NC left during his expulsion hearing and then left to join the Mushroom Kingdom.
Of course the Karma War was another major hit. The new government was determined to maintain its honour to the alliances of One Vision and The Continuum which had supported it over the years and throughout the TSO split and entered the war knowing that it wouldn't be an easy battle. By then, Francesca had left to the Viridian Entente (due to the High Council's decision to back the Hegemony, if memory serves me right) and we more or less had a clean fight against VE, NV, 1TF and GLOF.
That's pretty much it from the drama side of things. Yet there are a couple of other things I think I should mention.
Not long after forming (and evidence pointing to one of their members spying on and sabotaging our forums), TSO offered us a goodwill aid package of 1.7 billion CN dollars. Was this a bribe to stop us and OV from stomping them? Of course they had the TOP protectorate which complicated things a little bit. But I'll leave that in the hands of the Hegemony-era CN philosophers to debate. Of course after TSO took the side of Karma, there wasn't much anyone could do, except for the invisible hand of CN inactivity itself.
At the time, I was the Minister of Finance for the MCXA, voting against the aid package. Sam and Celt had reiterated that it was a small package, being the size of each of their nations' war chests. Nonetheless, the MCXA High Council were keen to accept it and I was keen to take my time in making sure it targeted the right nations. (Only made more difficult among forum hacks, the withdrawl of Berzerkerweb and members leaving left right and centre). A couple of TSO financiers pressured me for 'lists' threatening to send the aid without specified targets. One even thought the draft list I copypasta'd into an IRC query with SleepiB was the final and complained that it wasn't formatted neatly. The TSO bluff was called in the end and the aid continued to flow in past my term as Minister of Finance.
I think that's it. I'm sure somebody will remind me of something else and I welcome them in doing so. But I think that it is appropriate that I post my thoughts.
I think that somewhere in there, TOP were embarrassed with the behaviour of TSO during their declaration of existence, especially with an inconsiderate rickroll. Perhaps deep within they thought twice about their decision to protect TSO after the controversy of their creation, which was only mentioned on the Continuum leadership forum a few days prior to the DoE. In fact, Moo and Electron Sponge discussed it on the CN Talkshow, both showing sympathy towards the MCXA left behind, but their comments reassured me: Gopherbashi and Dr. Fresh would take good care of the MCXA. And that, they did.
These days, I am Chancellor of the MCXA. I understand that TSO too has a new government and that new government wishes to seek ties with MCXA. We can always be friends, we could always fight on the same side of a major war. But I'm not interested in a treaty. Whilst every now and then, there's a small mention of MCXA being boring in the modern scope, I don't care. We're not out here to troll and/or comment on every OWF thread, we're here to be the best we can be.

A brief history of video-making throughout the years
I love the dedication of the people who are a part of this online community.
Most alliances will pay for hosting, some will pay for flags, many will spend countless hours losing sleep on some crazy new idea they want to implement to improve their experience of this game. Heck, even Valhalla (and I'm sure a few other alliances) have had real-life get togethers, drawing people in from all over the United States and even abroad. By no means, do I intend to insult the dedication of some CN players, for I've my fair share of these things. But every now and then there is this other side, where we feel we must hastily put together a game-related video, some hilarious, some mediocre, some to be remembered and some that we just love, period.
Perhaps I'll start with one I've mentioned on the OWF before, the Bollywood (although later revealed to be Tamil, and hence not Bollywood) portrayal of the history of Cyber Nations:

The music in that video is fantastic, making it by far the most popular CN video ever. But later down the line, we came across some other, more emotional videos. You may remember this guy...

If there are seriously people like this out there, then I can have a massive ego boost being in Government of an alliance. Absolutely amazing, or really good acting. At times, I get the feeling this could be Trotsky's Revenge pulling off a good act, but this guy seems to lisp more. Nonetheless, if you ever doubt how much people enjoy this game, just watch that clip. /rant
But not all videos involve anxious people with severely untrendy eyewear. Perhaps the following video is one we all remember and perhaps can relate to:

But then, we have the DoWs. I could post up SuperCoolYellow's video from the eve of the Karma War, although I believe the following to be a bit more sincere and serious. Perhaps the way video DoWs should be done.

Yet I find the following from the New Sith Order to be more entertaining.

A suit (with a feather hat?), clear resolution, a prepared speech and a swig of Jack Daniel's halfway through. I love it.
So citizens of Bob, whatever you do, don't put down your cameras. The classic moments of this game will continue and be immortalized through the wonders of YouTube. Sure, you may look back on yourself wondering why on Earth you would do such a thing, but remember how much fun you had making it and how much enjoyment you bring to others watching it.

Firstly, who is Rextu? This is what my first blog entry is going to be all about. It will be in some ways, a shortened biography of my Cyber Nations life, which is why I have titled it Australian Story--the only decent biography program on television that I know about.
I have been in this game since a week after Great War II finished, that is, since late January 2007. I have never re-rolled and since mid 2008, I have been a member of the Multicolored Cross-X Alliance. During that time my interest in the game has varied, or been weakened due to playing other text-based RPGs such asLunar Wars where I came to know some iconic figures in Cyber Nations--the most iconic of which probably being Chefjoe. Nonetheless, I'm no stranger to MCXA Government, having served on Gopherbashi's transitional council as Minister of Finance after the TSO exodus and organising the TSO goodwill aid and Karma War reparations. After that, I took a good long break from CN because of other things popping up in real life, only just returning now.
Coming back to CN, I can see not much has happened. (Insert lawl). I expected to come back to find myself banned on the MCXA forums for being away for so long and returning to an alien world on the OWF. Instead, I was welcomed with open arms by familiar faces in MCXA government. I am proud to say that the MCXA soldiers who I once saw as newbies (except for Neural Link, you ain't no newbie in my eyes ) are now serving as Chancellors and doing a job that I am nothing less than impressed with. In the first week back reading the OWF, I saw no war, fewer DoEs and THE DARK LORDS. Oh, and an annoucement from an alliance that I thought was long gone-- "stupid slashes M" (Trotsky's Revenge, CN Talkshow 2009).
But something else has changed. Blocs these days aren't what they used to be, in terms of Continuum-style one-sidedness in MADP strength. Alright, I haven't done much research into the new blocs since I've been back, so point and laugh if you must, but I think we all agree CN politics might just be that little bit more interesting these days. Even if every thread on the OWF is filled with four bajillion single-sentence posts from bored MK members. Eh, that was the same before I left anyway. But before I forget, has the Maroon sphere become united through the Chestnut Accords? Bet you would not have seen that coming in 2006
So that wraps up my first blog entry. Hopefully now you know me just that little bit more so if you see me make a post somewhere on the forums, you can say "hey, I read that guy's blog!" If you ever want to have a chat on IRC, I'm ususally in #MCXA. But until another day...
    Sayonara.
