  1. Yes Fan Used to be a warmongering alliance. Some swore by us and some swore at us and we enjoyed both. It was an honor to be a part of the Initiative. It was a great idea and it was a great entity for a while. We were proud to stand by such alliances for a while but our core spirit is that of liberty and freedom. Other alliances such as IRON held their independence with pride. IRON may have always hated us but their independence was admirable to say the least. For us its a bit odd to see them where we once were. A military force ready to fight and kill for the sake of a treaty with partners. Some of us may think IRON sold its innocence to play in the big league. They were always big league as they were but I can understand that playing independent could have gotten stale. Only they know their reasons for shedding their independence and I am sure they do not regret it and no one can blame them or hold them in disregard. They made a sovereign decision and that is to be respected.

We "sold our innocence"as you put it to secure our independence against alliances like you(FAN), GOONs and others. IRON may have hated FAN, but the feeling was mutual and with the might of WUT at your backs, life in CN was walking a tightrope, with no room to maneuver or political strength to back up our independence. The slightest misstep and you would have been all over us.

The IRON leaders brilliantly kept us a alive and slowly got us into position where we could enjoy our independence without fear for our lives.

However I do like to think the NPO had a large part in resisting any ideas about attacking IRON back then.

  2. So by now surely NPO has made enemies with the entire population of Cybernations, including its own membership. The fallacy in your argument is the notion that 1) all nations that we defeat are our eternal enemies, and 2) most of those people don't go away.

I am a perfect example about why your two points are wrong. In GW III I fought on the opposing side of the Initiative, I was stupid about it, I was ZIed, bill trapped, and killed. I left for a couple months, then came back more than a little wiser for the experience. I eventually came to see The Orders for what they really were, and joined them. It was the best decision I ever made in CN.

And regarding CN not being real life, this is somewhat of an OOC answer that probably belongs in another forum, but I'll take my chances. Unsurprisingly, I have to disagree with you on this one as well, but for reasons that will probably make me look like a crackpot. For anyone that has done any work in the business world, CN, and alliance politics specifically, is a fairly accurate (if exaggerated) emulation of business management, business negotiation, marketing, recruiting, and conflict resolution. CN has actually helped me a fair amount in negotiating and bargaining, but this is a discussion for elsewhere.

    ^this.

I am a similar situation. I joined NAAC as a fresh newbie and 2 weeks later the might of the NPO came crashing down on me and my few friends in the opening salvos of Polar War II. I did my best to fight for NAAC but eventually I was anarchied then ZI'd.

Over a period of a month or so, I sat and stewed in my bitterness. I hated the NPO and vowed that someday I would see them destroyed.

Then one day I was invited to join the new IRON alliance by people I knew on the heavengames.com OD board, so I deleted that old NAAC nation and started over. Even when starting with a fresh plate, I still harbored much hate for the NPO for many months. I would have been glad to try and destroy them in the Great War. However in the months after, I found I no longer hated them. I don't know when the hate disappeared, but all I know now is that I can no longer feel that hate in my heart. Perhaps seeing the NPO momentarily humbled brought me some peace, I don't know.

Now I am perfectly happy to just reside peacefully in IRON, and with IRON reside alongside the NPO and our many other allies.

  3. Regent Bakunin, I am honored.

IamJoe, as I explained in my introduction thread I have been studying the game as an observer for over a year.

yeah, I just saw it. Still seems odd though. It seems like you would be a player who has restarted rather than someone sitting idling by and watching. Sorry if I sound suspicious, I am just crusted from long experience in CN

  4. I remember those times well. Each side had its share of popular support within IRON, but at this time as I recall, IRON had no military pacts with any involved party, only Non-Aggression Pacts, and thus had no real reason to become involved with this war. Entering on either side for IRON would have likely ended up outcries of band-wagoning, and I'm sure nobody in IRON or her government wished that. Also hello IamJoe, long time no see.

    /me waves to empirica

    how are things? :awesome:

  5. Well, the instant I saw the no nuke agreement on the boards, I (and a lot of IRON) instantly wrote off the league as a hopeless cause. You just don't throw away a 600+ nuke advantage like that. Prior to that, there was a pretty large segment of IRONers (35-40% according to polls on the board) who clamored to join the League. However the Peace people and the pro NPO people outnumbered them (40 and 20% respectively) and outshouted them. :P

Though regular IRON members don't have any direct effect on day to day ops and overall alliance strategy, I'd like to think we had an effect on the council's decisions at the time.

In the end, there was only 1 real outcome for IRON though. Either the League would start winning and would not need our help, or The Initiative would start winning and we at IRON were not about to throw ourselves under a NPO driven bus for alliances we had no real ties to.

  6. Searching YouTube randomly about CN never had such amazing results. For the eras, I think people will always be arguing different ones. NPO who cares if you had a 'fall' or not. Point is if ya did, you did great job getting back up, if you didn't no big deal either..
