  1. Caracas Water Treatment Plant repaired and Kitex Embassy opened!

Caracas ~ Today marks the 1st day of full operation at the Caracas Water Treatment Plant. Clean water now flows across Caracas as does diplomacy as the Kitex Embassy's opening was pending repairs. LR Antonio dedicated the embassy at a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning and has taken up occupation of the embassy with a force of 50 legionaries of the 1st Legion. They will remain as a guard until Kitex sends it's diplomatic team as which point control and sovereignty of the embassy will be transferred to Kitex and the guard contingent will withdraw.

  2. (Encrypted)

START TRANSMISSION --- Indeed it does. That's largely the reason for wanting to talk in person but if you wish, we will offer up a summery.

We feel that your geological position on the North West Passage is a strategic 1 for trade and military movements and thus would like to open a base. Initially it'll simply be a trading outpost/scientific station but we do hope to send a military contingent at a later date.

We'd also like to open diplomatic and trade relations as our people have a great taste for bush meat (such as caribou) and seafood (much of which can be found in your waters). We'd of coarse offer you something of value ourselves, oil for example or, if you have any producing fields of your own, refinement.

Please send your response, we'd like to avoid going into details over such unsecured channels. --- END TRANSMISSION

  3. Formation of the Venezuelan Air Force announced!

Caracas ~ As dawn broke this morning, Gen. Che Marriott gave a short speech in front of the War Department HQ and then introduced a man he referred to as Air Martial Alex Rodriguez. AM Alex then proceed to announce the formation and outline the propose of the Venezuelan Air Force. Many had questions after the announcement noting it's vagueness and the fact that the Air Force's capabilities weren't mentioned. These questions went unanswered and rumor has begun circulating that something big and thus classified is in the works.

While the idea of a classified operation was initially brushed off as another conspiracy theory, the Republican News received unconfirmed reports that the 1st Legion was on the move quickly followed by a request by LR Antonio himself to not report further on the issue for reasons of national security. While the Republican News is known for it's openness, the tone of the request has caused us to accept it and thus, beyond this report we will drop this story.

  4. Noting the long standing instability in the region, the Republic of Venezuela recognizes and supports Italian efforts at establishing law and order in Somalia. We hope that this will mean an end to the pirate threat to our merchant marine.

We also invite a representative of the Italian Government to the Republic to meet with the Venezuelan Senate and open diplomatic relations.

  5. I like having a map.

Also, that new map will get filled up so fast it's not even funny. Make one bigger.

This but also say 1/2 of SoI is what you can claim. A larger map would not only mean more land to claim but also that even clamming 1/2 their circle, everyone would still own the same amunt of land.

I also suggest we start (if this happens) at early 20th Century tech.

  6. Venezuelan Army mobilized!

Caracas ~ Gen. Che Marriott has officially dedicated the 1st of the VA's units, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Legions. The 1st Legion is tasked with protecting Caracas, government officials and operating as shock troops for any offensives that may be launched. The 2nd Legion is tasked with patrolling the countryside and operating as heavy police for such situations as riots, rebellions and other such matters beyond the abilities of civilian police forces. The 3rd Legion is tasked with defending the borders and cities and specializes in urban warfare. These 3 units are to be the elite forces of the Republic and according to General Che Marriott, will soon be the most elite fighting force on the continent.

LR Antonio announces promised VS reform bill!

Caracas ~ LR Antonio has announced S.B-001 Campaign and Election Act. If passed in it's current form and signed into law, the Campaign and Election Act will ban all political parties and corporate funding as well as making all candidates write-ins and elected by popular vote. Long awaited, many in the VS have praised the bill as a step forward in the quest to strengthen demicratic institutions.

The bill's honeymoon isn't perfect however. Some senators, led by Sen. Batista, have filed a formal protest against the LR citing executive interference in the legislator and Sen. Batista has told of his doubts as to the wisdom of allowing the elections of senators to 'boil down to popularity contests'.

There has been some public backlash to this opposition with 1 citizen telling 1 of our reporters, "What dose he think, we're stupid?"

The Republican News will keep a close tab on this story's development.

  7. Economic Boom for Caracas?

Caracas ~ LR Antonio, during an economic speech to the VS this morning, announced that Nanosolar Technologies and Legion Inc. had both agreed to open trade with the Republic. Nanosolar Technologies has already sent it's 1st shipment of goods, which will hit the shelves across the Republic in 2 days. Legion Inc. has already started negotiations for an arms deal.

LR Antonio left the VS with thunderous applause and hinted at a major military build up.

The Republican News will keep a close tab on this story's development.

  8. OOC: A question: when Caracas was destroyed, are you refering to something that you did before? Or the time when it got nuked when I had it, about a year ago? /OOC

Nanosolar Technologies would like to send a representitive to Caracas, and to present some of our newest technologies that would be very beneficial to your nation, namly our Nanosolar technology.

OOC: I'm RPing from scratch having nothing to do with my my old RP. I left the history vague so it could be fit into any existing RPs as needed. So to answer your question, I mean whatever you need it to mean. :P

I'll see to it that it makes it into tomorrow's paper.

"Legion Inc. would like to send a representative to the Republic of Venezuela to show/offer the Venezuelan military body armor and weapons."

OOC: I'll see to it that it makes it into tomorrow's paper.

  10. Republican Port of Caracas reopens!

Caracas ~ The Republican Port of Caracas officially entered into full operation today. Slated to be the primary port in the Republic, LR Chavez invited business leaders from across South America to tour the port and city promising them that the city would look as prosperous as it had in the days of old and bragging that it could not be noticed that the city was only recently resettled. Apparently LR Chavez wasn't unjustified as his office released the announcement just before LR Chavez's invitation that American Biotech, a Boston based start-up rumored to be going places, had agreed to build a new laboratory in Downtown Caracas. It is slated to be AB's largest to date and is projected to bring in at least 9.8 million pesos to the city in the 1st year alone, mostly from local redevelopment.

  11. Venezuelan Senate announced!

Caracas ~ Leader of the Republic Antonio Chavez and Deputy of the Republic Maria Sanchez announced the formation of the Venezuelan Senate this morning with little fanfare. State elections are to be held in 2 days and senators are to be elected by direct vote. When asked by Republican News why only 2 days had been allowed for, citing the lack of campaign time, LR Chavez replied, "Anyone worthy of holding high office in the Republic has earned the respect of the people. History has shown that the best leaders have had leadership thrust upon them suddenly and unasked for. Indeed once the VS convenes for the 1st time, I plan on pushing a bill that would make this sentiment law by outlawing political parties and campaigning and standardizing the process of write-in and direct voting."

Much remains to be seen as to how much support this proposed bill will have in the VS and the Republican News will keep a close tab on it's development.

Formation of the Venezuelan Army announced!

Caracas ~ General Che Marriott, a noted leader in the Battle of Caracas, has been declared Chief of the Army and has announced the immediate reorganization of the 'horde' as it's become known into a professional army. Rumor in the capital also has it that an air force will soon be announced as well.

The Republican News will keep a close tab on this story's development.

  12. A neutral and peaceful alliance... Which invented ZI, the greatest weapon/strategy ever developed in CN history and used with glee by the most warlike of alliances and rogues.

All I can say is... :awesome:

And to anyone who questions the wisdom of Grey Trades, consider this, they can all trade in secret as, not getting it in the 1st place, the loss of the trade bonus is irrelevant making the trade safe from sanction for both them and their partner in addition to what Crimius has already stated.

    Also, bump.

  13. Deciding that the government needed to flex it's official muscle and define the Republic, Antonio Chavez commissioned a map of the Republic of Venezuela. After having it shown to himself, Antonio approved it and ordered it disseminated across the Republic and to any governments that wished to review the Republic's territorial claims.

  14. Caracas was a dead city. Throughout the period of darkness that had gripped the land, the city had lain abandoned by most, unhealthy and dangerous as it was. But there was opportunity in this, for in it's slumber only jungle growth did any harm and the city had not been in it's desolate state for vary long. Indeed only the edges of the city, directly bordering the Amazon, looked anything like the overgrown cities of the long dead native nations. Caracas could be cleaned up and rebuilt. All that was needed was a stable government and economy. With the horde supporting him and the port facilities in surprisingly good order, this wouldn't be as hard as Antonio Chavez had feared.

Already the clean up effort was underway, for the horde had set to work immediately upon entering the city, only a small fraction following Antonio to the beach. With the Republic declared, the port was also being explored and it's restoration would soon follow. As Antonio walked along the docks, he noticed that the cranes had already been reactivated and the 1st supply ships, a fleet of which had shadowed his march along the coast, was already sailing into port to unload more workers and supplies.

Coro was a quiet port city at the fringes of the Republic's control. Samuel Gonzales, the man tasked with it's governance, was a tired man having single handily driven off the gangs that had ruled the city before the arrival the 'army'. Samuel mused that Antonio's description of his followers as a horde, while crude, was nonetheless accurate. However, all may well soon be well Samuel thought to himself. If the republican government was strong and with Antonio at it's head, it likely would be, then he would soon receive the aid he needed. Yes, once Antonio was done in Caracas, he'd have all he needed to move past simply keeping Coro alive and on to making it rich. With this in mind he called his aids to him, they needed to plan the building of a marketplace and increase their efforts on rebuilding the Republican Road System.
