    Protection agreement between the Viridian Entente and Celestial Being

    Preamble

    The Viridian Entente and Celestial Being:

    * Aiming at the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace;

    * Aspiring to develop friendly relations and co-operation between them;

    * Seeking a pathway that will lead to full and frank communication between them;

    * Desiring to ensure lasting security for both alliances and in particular to avoid espionage and the threat or use of force between them;

    * Deciding to establish peace between them in accordance with these Protocols for Espionage and Armed Conflict Eradication;

    Have agreed as follows:

    Article I – ESTABLISHMENT OF PEACE

    Peace is hereby established between the Viridian Entente and Celestial Being (the "signatory alliances") effective from the exchange of the instruments of ratification of these protocols.

    Article II – SOVEREIGNTY

    Both of the signatory alliances and their respective member nations recognize and will respect each other's sovereignty and political independence. They recognize and will respect each other's right to live in peace within their respective alliances. They will develop good neighbourly relations of co-operation between them to ensure lasting security. They will refrain from espionage and the threat or use of force against each other and will settle all disputes between them by peaceful means.

    Article III – COMMUNICATION

    In signing these protocols, both signatory alliances recognize that full and frank communication is the foundation for a strong and enduring relationship and that there is mutual benefit for both alliances when open communication between them is maintained. To that end, both signatory alliances agree to productive two-way inter-alliance communication:

    IIIa. The signatory alliances agree that whenever a situation arises which involves provisions within these protocols or other issues of mutual concern; there shall be full and frank communication between the signatory alliances.

    IIIb. The signatory alliances shall encourage and promote effective methods of dispute resolution between the signatory alliances and their respective member nations.

    IIIc. The signatory alliances commit to frequent and recurring dialogue on each others forums and IRC channels. This commitment is based on the view that open access to each others communication channels is essential to the rapid and efficient inter-alliance communication. This shall include communication at the alliance leadership level where on an as needed basis, representatives of the highest decision making bodies of the signatory alliances will jointly meet to discuss issues of mutual concern. This shall be in addition to routine diplomatic communications and the regular communication between normal member nations.

    Article IV – OVERT HOSTILE ACTIVITIES

    Neither signatory alliance will knowingly engage in the use of sanctions against member nations of the other signatory alliance without formal, written permission from the other signatory alliance. Neither signatory alliance shall endorse, fund, approve or engage in military action against the other signatory alliance. If an individual member nation of either signatory alliance is found in violation of this article, it shall be directed to offer peace and reparations equivalent to a minimum of 1.5 times the total damages inflicted. Though not required, defending nations shall be encouraged to defer reprisal actions until a diplomatic solution can be reached.

    IVa. Should the offending member nation of a signatory alliance refuse to offer peace and agree on reparations terms, said member nation will be declared a rogue and will no longer be offered the protection of either signatory alliance.

    IVb. If a signatory alliance violates this article, such activity shall be considered an act of war.

    Article V – COVERT HOSTILE ACTIVITIES

    Neither signatory alliance shall knowingly endorse, fund, approve or engage in espionage or other covert action against the other signatory alliance. Both signatory alliances agree not to actively or passively recruit member nations of the other alliance for the purpose of committing espionage. If either signatory alliance collects intelligence regarding a security breach or a credible threat concerning the other signatory alliance, the acquiring signatory alliance will convey all pertinent information in their possession to the other signatory alliance.

    Va. Should a member nation of a signatory alliance violate this article, said member nation will be declared a rogue and will no longer be offered the protection of either signatory alliance.

    Vb. If a signatory Alliance violates this article, such activity shall be considered an act of war.

    Article VI – RECIPROCAL DEFENSE

    Protectorate: Should Celestial Being come under attack by a foreign power, the Viridian Entente, at the request of Celestial Being, shall immediately provide military assistance as well as, but not limited to, financial, political and such other assets it has at its disposal. Should the Viridian Entente come under attack, Celestial Being is encouraged but is not obligated to provide the Viridian Entente with such assistance as it is able to muster, be it military, political or financial or other assets.

    Article VII – RECOVERY AID

    In the event of conflict involving only one of the signatory alliances, upon cessation of hostilities and barring other conflicting treaty obligations, the non-combatant signatory alliance shall encourage its individual member nations to voluntarily provide recovery aid to individual member nations of the war-torn signatory alliance.

    In the event of conflict involving both of the signatory alliances, upon cessation of hostilities and barring other conflicting treaty obligations, both signatory alliances shall encourage its individual member nations to voluntarily provide recovery aid to individual member nations of the war-torn signatory alliances regardless of alliance membership.

    Article VIII – CIVILITY

    Both signatory alliances shall be resolute in their insistence that their respective members remain polite and civil to each other at all times, especially in public forums and other public venues.

    Article IX – AMENDMENTS

    When this treaty requires revision, the signatory alliances will mutually discuss and agree on new terms. The amended terms to this treaty are effective following a 48-hour amendment activation timeframe. Either signatory alliance may unilaterally revoke the amendment so long as the 48-hour amendment activation timeframe has not concluded.

    Article X – RATIFICATION

    These protocols shall be ratified by both signatory alliances in conformity with their respective procedures.

    Article XI – TERMINATION

    Either signatory alliance may terminate this compact at any time by providing the other signatory alliance with a 48 hour notice of intent to terminate. This compact is automatically terminated when either signatory alliance violates Article IV, V or VI of this compact.

  2. I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, We fought the good fight, and afterward many joined other alliances only to return home after peace was achieved. We basically did both, and in the process, kept our pride. And when you're knocked down to nothing, that's all you have left. But now we are restored, definitely worse for the wear, but we will never have to defend ourselves in a thread like this.

    Not trying to belittle what FAN did. The respect for you is there, unquestionably. Your point is valid as well. Opinions differ. :)

  3. I don't make it a policy to enter discussions between grudge-bearing parties (they are rarely rational), but what you've just said is such an extreme stretch, that I just have to comment.

    Looking at you now, VE is indeed a successful and strong alliance. But the argument that your current status somehow changes what happened historically is not a rational one, no matter how "long-term" one's view might be.

    Disbanding an alliance cannot be twisted into a "victory". When you fall apart you have lost. Being able to return in the future does not change that; it merely means that you survived and "won" in a new war.

    Certainly, if you take the (admittedly biased) view that "the goal of the enemy was for us to not survive", then you can portray survival as one form of success - but to twist it so far as to claim that not being eradicated from the face of the planet is a victory is disingenuous. Especially since it is impossible to actually destroy a player - most alliances that have disbanded in the past have resulted in a wave of "immigration" of players to other alliances and splinter groups - much like VE did. And, much like VE, those players have ended creating shifts in world politics.

    Obviously, what those individuals do does not end with the alliance. For example, whilst the LUEnited Nations might no longer be amongst us, its former members have continued to be very successful leaders, with similar political alignments. When the Karma war came around, they were mostly amongst people on the winning side, and admittedly achieved some form of revenge for their past. However, their victory in the Karma war did not somehow change the results of GWII or GWIII.

    I do see your point, that a long term view is important. The future is always in motion. But is is equally important to distinguish that the present should not be the basis of changing the interpretation the past (unless it involves new information being released). If we were to use that line of thought, then, for the sake of speculation, GGA might experience explosive growth over the next 2 years, and then force VE into some form of submission. (Bear in mind this is purely theoretical) Would that event change the present success of VE? Of course not - doing so would take the "history is written by the victors" idea to a new extreme.

    VE was defeated. Yes, their defeat was a temporary one - but in this realm, every defeat is temporary. We cannot pretend every time a new guy is on top that they have "won" every historical conflict due to their present success. Yes, you are successful - at this point in time. The past and the future are separate from the present.

    I apologize for misconveying my views. I intended that, by putting war in quotations, people would realize I wasn't referring to the physical manifestation of this conflict that happened during the Green Civil War. We lost the Green Civil War. None of us deny that. Rather, we consider the entirety of the conflict to be a success. Get me?

  4. Yay now we have a topic about us. We're cool, I guess.

    Anyway now that we've decided, it seems, to debate VE's disbandment I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and say the following:

    1) Anyone who believes that the Entente, by disbanding, didn't win the "war" against, well, Bilrow, is completely ignorant of all that has happened since we disbanded. Our government and alliance pretty much agree that we won unquestionably. Just look at us now?

    Edit: To point out another thing to add is that there are plently of ways to win these battles. Our method was just as effective as Fark's or FAN's as both are free alliances now and so are we. Both have avenged their past and so have we. We just, in our opinion, did it smarter (at least than FAN) and quicker. Big deal we disbanded, get over it.

    2) Our situation is different then say IAA or \m/ as almost the entirety of our former leadership, including founders, reformed and had been planning it from pretty much the moment we disbanded. I'm honestly going to have to allude to No Fish's observation on this one and say that the Entente now is the same cake as we disbanded...save for being wiser to what our "allies" were capable of.

    3) On us joining the War of the Coalition against MK, I honestly don't understand why that was even brought up as an issue. The Entente and the Mushroom Kingdom have quite amazing relations and we consider them to be good friends. (Even one of their members is our "Lord." I love you SC) Plus, we honor our treaties. We're sorry if our sense of honor and duty offend some people? I think our stance in the world is pretty clear at the moment, and has been since a few months before the Karma War.

    4) I'm not going to decide for CN whatever you guys feel as deciding what our "real" date should be, however, as a representative of the Viridian Entente, I can tell you that this July 12th we shall be celebrating our 4th Birthday, regardless of what you all say and think.

  5. Oh how I miss the care-free days of no warchests, no staggers, and free-for-all. Also, the instant anarchy trick was awesome, very useful. I was in VE at the time (no surprise there) and we fought NAAC. And GATO iirc. Good times.

    Edit:

    I agree that #disgaea2 was the best channel ever, followed by #initiative

  6. I'm happy to see this come to fruition.

    o/

    My condolences to the Viridian Entente.
    Oh lord.

    Good luck to all of us.

    Ah the predictable comments from Bel Air. Delicious.

    man...how alliance leadership changes over the years. i don't recognize anyone in VE anymore

    Hey puck, I remember you! (And you should remember TypoNinja too. And Sol.)
